Sir Clarmont Skrine was British Consul-General at Kashgar during the 1920s. With his wife he travelled extensively in Chinese Turkistan, and this book gives a lively account of their experiences and impressions, illustrated by the author's superb photographs.
Rare account from an experienced official. Will read more on the power struggles between UK & Russia in central Asia. Better part is that in his departing jaunt, he was close to finding K2 - never thought officials went to explore that area (with their formal attire!)
