Only an ungrateful bastard would refuse to thank his lucky stars. Lucky that he fell into the lap of one of the most prominent members of The Abhayam. Lucky that his skills landed him a well-deserved life in New York. Lucky that he accidentally unearthed the person his organization has hunted for centuries.
Until my luck ran out when my first Thanksgiving party turned into a disaster. The star-crossed lovers should have been punished long ago; the ones who host their souls need to pay. Nothing can stop me. Not them. Not my supposed father who taught me well. Not the serial killer and his ridiculous trademark bouquet. His threat to the lives of my fellow solders must be handled. I’ll show no mercy. I’m ready to up my game, prove myself, and figure out how to master the Black Angel Book’s ultimate spell. Once and for all.
This book was first published as part of Deadly Ever After (The Black Angel Book series, Volume 2) in 2016. Since then, the first books in my debut series have undergone a complete makeover, inside and out! The story described as “refreshingly unique” by readers has been kicked up a notch with the addition of a third point of view and a fresh edit. Enjoy this new version!
Hope Irving is a USA Today and Amazon Top 15 Bestselling Author. She lives in Paris, France, and spent a couple of years in Texas, where she earned her MBA. With many friends, relatives, and readers in the States, the US has a big place in her heart. Although French is her mother tongue, she chose to write her novels in English because it simply feels right for her characters. Hope’s suspenseful and complex love stories are modern fairytales. A natural introvert, she enjoys tormenting her flawed characters with a hint of darkness and sometimes magical elements. Still, her heart melts when love conquers all. Her work has been described as “genre-defying,” “refreshingly unique,” and “an intriguing rollercoaster read.”

The suspense is getting so good , we have the serial killer, the one trying to master the Black Angel book and we have our lovers who have lifetimes , in their pockets. I love how each volume pulls us further into their.lives and leaves me wondering what will happen next
I am not sure how to write a review/synopsis of this book without spoiling for new readers (so much happens you guys!). Instead, I will list some of the things I really enjoy about this book.
-Complex characters- Nobody is all good or all bad. Everyone is usually in the gray zone. This is communicated beautifully here. Even the bad guys have good redeeming qualities.
-Chapters told from different POV- Loved having access to different points of view from the same story line. You know what each character knows, what makes the tick, etc. Unlike other writers, the alternative POV enriches the storyline and is done seamlessly. Love it.
-Oh the irony! So many situations with verbal and dramatic irony! There are so many times I wanted to hop into the story and shake a main character by the shoulders while shouting, "He's lying to you!" No one character has all of the information, just like real life.
-The parallels between history/mythology and now- How much free will do we truly have? What happens to destiny? What hangs in the balance?
I highly recommend this book which encompasses many genres in my humble opinion (action, romance, paranormal, etc.). It is a fun and interesting read but makes you think and feel. Five stars.
***This book does not stand alone. In order to understand what's going on, you really need to read the prior ones.***
Once again I really enjoyed reading this book just as much as the previous 3 in this series. Looking forward to reading the next one. Highly recommend reading.
Nathan changes the most in this book for he goes from totally self absorbed to caring and kind. He still thinks he is Morgann and brings danger upon himself with his new book which in turn brings Virgil out to protect him and that has Rose more thinking he is vile and despicable. Rose is confused and lost but to me just more self centered than believed. At the end where her and Nathan become close that was great. Tiny is losing her good qualities to me and I fear where that is going.
The intrigue of Jim and how he changed on Thanksgiving and his personality completely doing a 180 was fascinating. It has you wonder what this dark twist is all about and how come his dark soul wasn’t seen before now. This actually precipitated a change in Bruce as well. He began to lose himself in his desire for revenge and his true self started to show.
The book is dark and twisted in its fates of these two star crossed lovers in which their souls are in Virgil and Rose. Rose doesn’t really believe in fate, destiny, faith or the legend. She thinks virgil is a psychopath and yet she is drawn to him and has seen things she can’t explain. Virgil is crushed by her words but very understanding and loving still. He holds out hope that she will come around. Me I would tell her later cupcake but not Virgil. She doesn’t see that he is still Virgil and still the goofy sweet guy she liked before he told her all his secrets.
Hope Irving can truly write dark and twisted tales that keep you in the creep factor, having polarizing reactions to characters and their actions and having you feel like you are seeing The Addams family meet the Twilight zone with legends, danger, and faith in love and the unknown as well. We see the one who has the most blind faith hurt and having to do the most horrible things so that destiny can be seen and people can be kept safe. virgil truly doesn’t deserve the position he is in. Bruce yes but not Virgil. Bruce is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Rose needs to look inside herself and figure things out. the story is long and at times has you in the rabbit whole but does keep you needing to know more. More about the legend, more about Virgil, more about what Bruce is up to and why the change in Jim, what is going on with the romances and how will they turn out, will Virgil and Jade meet what they need to so they can end the cycle and a happy ever after can occur. I do love that Virgil finally lets go of some burdens and embraces his feeling but not happy with how Rose deals with it all. this is the story of Morgann (VIrgil) and Deidre (Rose), how they find another again and try to fulfill the legend while keeping people safe and finding their way to love and acceptance. It’s dark, twisted in a Addams familyesque way which you will love, a star crossed love story up there with Romeo and Juliet that has you learning truths and with more questions and wanting the next soon…
Rose is starting to question what or rather who she wants. When Virgil pleads his case she is ready to jump but then she learns a terrible truth she can handle This one is up and down. Lots happening with some pretty big revelations for Rose. It's just a question of if she's prepared to handle it.
Aghhhhh......I thought for sure Virgil and Rose were on their way to a happy ending!! They were so close. I am so invested in this series that I think the story will change if I wish hard enough. Silly me.
