Saturn for My Birthday

Rate this book
Jeffrey wants Saturn for his birthday, and he wants the moons too―all 47 of them. After all, they’ll make great night-lights! But he’s not selfish; he’ll share the rings with some of his friends at school and with his teacher, Mrs. Cassini. Facts about Saturn are woven seamlessly throughout this funny story as Jeffrey explains just what he’ll do with his present and how he’ll take care of it. His dad better hurry with the order, though, because shipping might take a while. The “For Creative Minds” education section features “Solar System” and “Saturn Fun Facts.”

I wish when I was little I'd had the imagination to ask for something so big! This was a fun book. Loved the illustrations as well as the story. Nice little twist at the end brought it all back to earth. And in the extra info at the back of the book I learned some things I did not know about Saturn.

It was especially fun to find this on my end-of-the-year reading stack today because I just saw Saturn only five days ago, on December 21, 2020! The alignment with Jupiter was unique (some called it the "Christmas Star") and had not happened in 800 years. We took our telescope out to the back porch. We actually, literally saw the rings of Saturn! Bright and glowing in the sun, along with Jupiter and three of its moons! It was brilliant and bright. So beautiful. Something I will always remember.

So reading this book today was extra special.

I'm not crazy about the illustrations. There are little too busy, but this is a fun way to teach students information about Saturn.
