Impulse control! That is what Robertson must teach Anastazia "Taz" Proctor. Who exactly is Robertson? He reminds me of Alfred from the Batman shows. He's a lawyer who is also a nanny for the infant Taz. Taz is a very precocious little girl who seems to possess the power of persuasion. Is the force strong in you, Taz? Strong she is; dark she is not. At least this is what my inner Yoda says. Turns out, Taz is from a line of people who have special powers and persuasion is the least of it all. Her entire life has been carefully monitored unbeknownst to her. When the truth is revealed it her, she takes it rather badly.
I've read other paranormal romance stories by the talented Ms. Dalton. This is the first one where it's about vampires. The vampires in this world are very different than the ones I'm used to and that's pretty cool for me. These vampires are more like witches and sorcerers, truth be told. It is a nice twist. The world Ms. Dalton built is slow in its reveal. It's like a striptease and at the end of the book, we haven't even seen skin yet. I want to learn more about this world. I am just as frustrated as Taz. Where is my Buffy's Vampire guide? And where are all the other women? Why is Taz only surrounded by men? Not that there is anything wrong with the center of attention from men, but it's just a little odd to me. I am very surprised a main character was killed off. It shocked me and my brain came to a halt.
The characters in this book are very lovable. Taz is a funny snarky control freak. I can totally relate. Cousins Matthias and Rafe are both super hot and I would be hard pressed to choose between the two. Matthias is an alpha dog with the attitude to follow it, at first. Rafe is a hot love them and leave them playboy. As we learn more about Taz, the hints about her comfort with Rafe have me sick to my stomach since she's with Mattias and this isn't a ménage story. I fear I know where this is going. What disappointed me a bit is how quickly both Matthias and Rafe went beta to Taz's out of control behaviour. If anyone needed a spanking, Taz is one who desperately needed it. This isn't a BDSM book so none of that happened. Instead, we find Taz trampling all over the men. I understand it is because Taz is very powerful. Still, I would have liked someone to stand up to her.
The storyline captivated me from the very first page and all the way through to the end. This is a page turner and when the book ends, the only thing you will want is to read the next book. I know I did. I recommend this book to paranormal romance readers who want a twist to the vampire mythology. (3.5 stars)

This is not your normal vampire book. Couldn't put it down. Taz has a strong sense of control, and doesn't everyone need and want a Robertson in their life. Then enter Matthias and his cousin Rafe. This story has many ups and downs which was only one of the things that made me love it. Love the story and love the characters. Brimstone Blues is next.

Anastazia is a smart and strong willed attorney that is suddenly thrust into a world where nothing makes sense to her. Now she has to face a new world and her part in it. That’s not her only problem though. She has to try a fight the temptation of her new boss...

Who would have believed that there was another creative "take" on the old vampire legend? Well Tymber Dalton has come up with one and it's a complete retelling of the vampire realities. It is also the story of one young vampire female who has been cared for and protected by an ancient vampire, Matthias, for whom this young female is a soul-mate and whose powers are beyond belief. She is probably one of the most powerful to come along in centuries. Because of that her life is in danger and she stands in the way of serious harm unless she is trained quickly to withstand the scrutiny of the vampire council and the attacks of those who would take her for their own purposes.
Since Tymber Dalton is one of my favorite authors, it was not stretch for me to read this new book and to enjoy immensely. I had not read a vampire story for quite some time so that attraction was there for me as well. The story begins slowly and fills in the early days of Taz's life, one that is protected and shaped by a loving man who has come into her life as her parents' attorney, house steward, and her "nanny" of sorts. Because of her parents' careers that take them out of Taz's life most of the time, this loving old vampire becomes a father to her and eventually the only family she has after the death of her parents, a death that eventually becomes seen as more than just an accident. Taz is now a grown woman, an attorney of note, and one that is valuable for her skills in the law. Yet Matthias wants her, not just for her legal prowess, but because he has loved her long. Circumstances conspire to force Matthias to reveal her true nature and the extent of her powers.
This is anything but a simplistic novel and doesn't have vampires going around biting each other and seeking blood sources. It's waaaaaay different from that. But it is set in a time when the various "families" of vampires must work together to still hide the longevity and extraordinary powers of vampires from the human population, even though there are those who want to use those superior powers to take over the world. (One can't really have vampires without a little world domination in the story.)
I found the story compelling, even though it did indeed start out slowly and for a time I wasn't really sure where the title came from. Eventually it all began to work together, and as this is a novel that was previously published by another publisher under a different title and has now been extensively revised, I think readers can be delighted that they are experiencing a new story in most aspects of the novel. It is the first in a series, and while I have no prior knowledge of how extensive the series will be, the second story--Brimstone Blues-- has already been released.
There's lots to like here: vampires and many of their usual abilities, a different and creative look at vampires from what has been written in lots of paranormal novels, and a love story that is very emotional and yet there are hitches and twists that are unexpected. As always, Ms Dalton writes excellent erotic romance, but the sex and loving never take over the story. It is a novel that is very entertaining and a treat for the libido as well. Yet all in all, it is a fine piece of writing and is a story that will hold the reader's interest. I don't read lots of vampire stories because I find that some of them really get so far out that I lose interest before it is all over. Here there is that smack of realism that makes one wonder if they are really "out there" and we just don't know about it.
This novel has it all: good story line, strong characters that are believable and who have all the bumps, bruises, and bunions of real people, good story action and some thrills and suspense thrown in, and all is tied up in a novel that is beautifully written. What more can a reader want?

Love and Brimstone is a revised edition of Tymber Dalton’s first published book and showcases her ability to wring emotions from the reader even in this first effort. There were parts that were laugh out loud funny, but there is also tear-inducing tragedy, along with mystery, suspense and breathtaking settings.
Anastazia “Taz” Proctor is a powerful attorney with a strange background. Her flighty parents let her in the care primarily of their major domo, Tim Robertson and she considers him her adopted Dad, especially after her parents’ mysterious disappearance. What Taz doesn’t know is that Matthias Hawthorne sent Tim to look after Taz and her parents, because they have the ancient gene mutation that turns them into vampires. But Hollywood has it all wrong. Vampires have an exceptionally long life (Matthias is over 600 years old), heal rapidly and have enhanced senses of smell, hearing and eyesight, along with the ability to communicate –and control others- mentally.
After Taz comes to work for Matthias, a monster attacks her, and the planned gentle introduction to her powers changes to a need to educate her and fast. Taz shocked and horrified by the information, fights Matthias and her own attraction for the man while battling werewolf like monsters and betrayal from within the ranks of the other vampires. Complicating the situation is Matthias cousin Rafe, who has suffered his own loss in the past, and finds himself incredibly attracted to Taz, who shares his fascination. But as Taz begins using her powers, she finds she can do as much harm as good.
While Dalton creates an intriguing world of vampires, it’s a little over the top in regards to their supernatural powers. But the character development and the emotional factors outweigh the deficiencies.
Much of the book is set in Yellowstone Park and comes complete with great descriptions of the incredible scenery. While there are some sex scenes, they are limited and strictly vanilla, in contrast to a lot of her later work. In her notes, Dalton mentions that the editor cut out the prologue to the story. I agree with Dalton that it should never have been eliminated, as it provides unique insight into the heroine’s character and relationships.
Overall, a satisfying read.

I adore Tymber!! Just sayin'...
Ice Queen doesnt begin to explain Taz, half way through the book I had my fill with brats. I wanted to smack Robertson for raising such a lil witch. At times it was hard to keep in mind what she was going through. After meeting Matthias her life was basically fast tracked. A demon attack, she is told she is a vampire and she isnt the only one.
Trying to give Taz time, and help her into her new life, could have gone so much better. Watching Taz as she moved through her childhood, watching her become a force to be reckoned with in more than one way. Leaves everyone in Taz's wake gasping and grasping at straws.
Ms Dalton threw a lil twist in this, on top of the danger they were already dealing with. Nice!! I loved the detail of the park and gysers. (A fav of mine). This story caught all my emotions, I laughed, I was pissed and I cried. There was a couple of heated scenes.. mostly the story line lead the book. Enjoy!!

4.5 out of 5. Who would have thought there was a new "take" on vampires, but Tymber Dalton has come up with one and it's fascinating! Beginning with her life as a toddler, Taz is cared for and protected because she is special. Now she is introduced to her destiny and it's not easy for her to absorb nor is she easy with the love that she feels for an ancient vampire who has loved her long and patiently and who truly is her soul-mate. It is a strong and vibrant story of erotic and enduring love that certainly doesn't run smooth but is full of the passion and pathos for which Ms Dalton is famous. There is anxiety, hurt, and disappointment but at its core, it is a story that will entertain and become a truly satisfying read, especially for those who love a new version of the old vampire legend.

Ok, I'm not sure what to think. This is definitely not what I expected from a vampire book. Completely different I was used to. Those vampires have more psychic ability than need for blood. Tez is thrown to their world and she is like the most powerful of them. Nobody knows the depth of her powers. The plot and characters were ok, but there were moment when they couldn’t hold my attention.
Matthias is so in love with her, that he allows her everything. I would prefer if he would stand up against her. They could share her and everybody would be happy.
Overall it was an OK read with different vampire mythology I would like to know more about.

The book has been re-worked and released again with a different publisher. I loved Tymber's take on the vampire legend and recommend it to anyone who likes vampire stories.

Really boring. Probably would have been better had it not been so long. Could have been shortened by half if they didn't keep repeating, repeating, repeating everything.
