Missing: One 350lb llama. White, loves peppermint candies and answers to the name Jack Kerouac.
When Sophie LaFleur left Hollywood and her acting career for the quaint, coastal town of Friendship Harbor, Maine, she expected ocean breezes, friendly neighbors and a relaxing way of life. What she didn’t expect was the theft of her beloved, pet llama--but then again, she never expected quite so much murder either. And L.A. was supposed to be dangerous.
Fortunately, her llama is found alive and well–stolen by a competitive 4-H Club mom, who wants her daughter to win a blue ribbon in the local fair’s animal competitions. But Sophie soon discovers its a world with a dark underbelly, full of stolen farm animals, pay offs and even murder.
And when she stumbles upon a body, the victim apparently killed in the pursuit of a coveted college scholarship, she realizes she is up to her neck in more than manure. She’s got a murderer on the loose.

Solving Llamageddon and the Aplacalypse Friendship Harbor Mysteries, Book 3
I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.
Media Type: Audiobook Source: Everand Dates Read: 12/10/24 - 12/11/24 Rating: 4 Stars Narrator(s): Lisa Cordileone
The Story: Jack has gone missing, dead bodies are popping up and it’s time for the fair! A lot is going on in Friendship Harbor and there’s a lot more to come. (excludes spoiler about living situation) This was a good installment to the series. Sophie’s penchant for nosiness is really helping her become a pretty good detective.
I wasn't sure if I was going to love this story because surly teens are such a turnoff for me but how can I not love the MC? She's just lovely and managed to deal very well with difficult characters. Another enjoyable installment.
I really only picked this up because of the llama theme--the mystery was okay but overall pretty fun. The description of how a 4-H show works was comical and incorrect. However, I've always thought a livestock show would make a perfect crime novel setting, and I stand by that. I want to go back and read the others in the series to see how we got here.
This is my favorite of the series so far! I absolutely LOVED IT.
Erin McCarthy and Kathy Love have solidified themselves as two of my favorite cozy mystery authors. This series is exactly what I look for when reading cozy mystery: cute animals, lots of humour, slow burn romance, and did I mention cute animals?! I could not recommend this series anymore if I tried.
Jack goes missing, but it's not long before Justin, the local sheriff, and Sophie find out where he is! And, of course, Sophie finds a dead body. Girl can't go anywhere without someone ending up dead...
For a chapter or two I was pretty sure I knew who Victoria's killer was but wasn't surprised when the actual killer revealed themselves.
I also loved getting a peek into what 4H is all about! It's been 16 years many years since I've been to a 4H exhibit or a fair, so now I'm wanting to go when our county fair starts next month!
why I gave it one star is very specific. the setting /background of the 4-h fair. it was sooo inaccurate it kept taking me out of the story where I would stop and go, wt the actual f* are you on about. this hyperfocused problem could have been solved by the author making up a make believe live stock judging thing. but everything from the date (in the middle of harvest season,) to having cross species competition and the fact that if that they would let cattle pigs and llamas. it was just ridiculous and all wrong to the point of being misinformation. anyways she would have been better to just day the friendship harbor autumn livestock competition the "FHAL" pronounced fall competition and I would have forgiven it all.
I will read the others in this series. just hated this book
Fun fast tale in this series. It works well as a standalone, but adds to the overall story arc. Of course there's humor thrown in with murder for Sophie to be nosy about and solve. Jack the llama is wonderful, of course and becomes the center for the story as murder happens around him. Mostly important Dean actually talks to Sophie and is on his way to being her friend. I like the relationship wth Sophie and Brandy, that's also building well, making Sophie more comfortable with her fairly recent move. Looking forward to the next book.
Solving Llamageddon and the Alpacalypse is the third installment in the Friendship Harbor cozy mystery series by Erin McCarthy.
Llamageddon introduces us to the pageant-like world of the local 4-H as Sophie works to solve two seemingly related murders.
I was hoping for some more Dean and Sophie moments in Llamageddon, and I was not disappointed. I am looking forward to their story continuing in Fa La La La Llama.
This series is so fun and light! I highly recommend reading them.
Nice, offbeat mystery - quirky unemployed actress inherits llama and pub and unexpected corpse. The quirky isn't too overdone - heroine is sensitive to the other characters even while curious, the llama has a mind of it's own as they do, and the love interest with a secret isn't too brooding, just mostly irked because of llama and corpse. Nice balance, entertaining story, fun beginning to promising series!
This was an action packed Llama adventure with an unruly Alpaca as costar. Llamanapping, murder and mayhem reign supreme in book 3 of the Friendship Harbor Mysteries series. The books are very funny and full of outrageous moments. They are well written and have been edited well. If you love animals and their quirky antics I recommend this book for an enjoyable experience.
First of all, now I want a llama AND an alpaca, and that’s just not fair!! If there is one constant in these books, it’s that Jack is the best, he sounds so cute!
I am starting to think that I prefer this series to The Murder by Design, it’s proper cosy and I just want more and more from the town, the pub and the people.
The romance is finally picking up but the slow burn is crazyyy!
The mystery was very nice, with a few twists I didn’t see coming, and elements such as the fair and the animal competitions that were a good addition.
I am definitely getting into the next book NOW, especially knowing Oliver is coming back!!
I'm getting more and more attached to the characters, Sophie is actually a fun and cute protagonist, not an annoying one like they have in so many lighthearted books today. I'm going through this series very fast because it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, perfect for winter
I loved this book. Light! Dark! Secrets, mysteries, kindness, young people and most of all, a hippie grandma that started it all. A fun, happy (amidst a few murders) and enjoyable book.
