Librarian's Note: This is an alternate title and cover edition of ASIN B08FTGP26W

Silva has spent her life being normal.

Average job, average pension, average life. Her life is set on rinse and repeat with her head kept down and her life on a track that seems several shades of boring.

Until she wakes up in a prison camp on an alien planet… run by humans.

Forced into a tiny cell with an alien male, Silva has to confront her fears and realize that her reality has changed for good. The male trapped with her is a lot more than she can handle and a lot more than he seems.

Why is she here? What are his intentions? Can she rely on the male beside her or is she falling into the breeding machinations of an alien race?

Can she change the future of humanity?

Disclaimer: This book has a lot of adult language, steamy knotty romance, and a healthy dose of consent, communication, and respect. If you are offended by manacles, alien physiology, or women screaming yes repeatedly, well maybe you should read this little story and get over that.

I'm just a lady with a foul mouth who really likes writing titillating stories about characters who go through experiences we don't have here on earth.

I like tea.

Yoga is life, meditation is therapy, and a birdfeeder right outside the window is the meaning to life, the universe, and everything.

Kidnapping but consent culture?

Silva is having the weirdest dream. Barren rock, cages, aliens, and some idiot dressed in armor shouting about sinners. A little loopy from this overload, but it doesn't stop her from finding a bit of wire and fashioning a lock pick. Freedom, here she comes! And then the dream repeats. Only, now with a headache. Wth?

Spoilers ahead.
Rambo, go ahead and giggle over that name, is pretending to be a prisoner. These demented humans have found a ship full of sleepers and are using them as slave labor. Meanwhile his species, Shek (giggle again, you know you want to), are about to die off. A cataclysm is mentioned, genetic wars, contamination, fire and brimstone religion, but all vaguely. No idea where this world is, why the human males aren't happy about finding human women, and why rock breaking is so important they use their own people as slaves to do it. Apparently old timey religion made a comeback, aliens are the devil, and these sleeping human women are all succubi. It doesn't make sense. And it's short, so it never will. The only positive thing, and the bit that drew me in, was the mention of consent. Something all too lacking in sci-fi romances. Authors can butter it up how they will- pheromone overrides, rut seasons, predator behavior, a need to stake a claim, however it comes about it always leads back to "she called to him and he had to have her" ideology. So, seeing consent? Big deal. His race is apparently still a little caveman because they want the women and aren't sure that all the guys will respect a no. And while an agreement is made by a member of the ruling class, there's a lot of panicked sleepers, already traumatized women, and possibly broken women that are about to be greeted by desperate aliens who expect a mate. And, of the 2 women we "meet", both are highly religious and see the aliens as demons. Just when were these women kidnapped, how, and was it some kind of raid on a church picnic? There are mysteriously disappearing wounds, a lack of hygiene (unless the magic bed sterilized both of them) and absolutely no mention of even a waste pot in the cages they're kept in for days. No food or water, either, and they're in the sun.
Aside from the lack of world building, there are absolutely no commas for address, several homonym swaps and some human slang coming out of alien mouths and minds.
It was interesting. I'll peek at book 2. But without any world building, character growth, or goals aside from breeding to save the race, a series of fluff won't hold my interest. But I commend the author on including consent. Bravo!

Silva woke naked in a very small cage located outside of a massive canyon of rock. There were other cages, some containing aliens. Figuring she was still dreaming, she decided to talk to the alien in the cage next to hers. She flirted with him which just made him wonder at how calm she was when most human women would be freaking out. Since there were no real consequences for acting out in a dream, she banged on the locked cage door and made lots of noise, despite the alien man’s warning not to draw their attention. Silva spotted a thin wire and, using her teenage reform school tricks, she started picking the lock. Her friend, Rambo, said she had a warrior soul – but the sense of a limp noodle! He tried to tell her she was in the “real world”, but she just laughed at him. Then a guard – oddly a human guard! – called out and started to chase her. Since this was a dream, she knew she couldn’t be harmed, so she ran. When something smacked into the back of her head, she dropped to the ground unconscious.

This time when she woke in the same cage, everything hurt. Why? It should not hurt in her lucid dreaming… it shouldn’t work that way! Even if the dream was looping, there should not be this much sensation. This time her feet were manacled. Her few tests confirmed this was not a dream. As the guards walked toward them, Rambo told her not to show any more of her fire or strength to them. She and Rambo were chained together and had to swing pickaxes all day, breaking up rock and carrying it to machines. By the end of the day, her body ached. But she wouldn’t cry; she needed to figure this out. She woke when Rambo put something like a warm bun in her hand to eat. He was outside of his cage and without chains! He asked her to stay quiet and not give him away and then he was gone! She took a bite of the bun and found meat inside it. So she started to silently cry so that she wouldn’t alert the guards that he was gone.

Rambo came back, unable to leave Silva. He hiked out to make his mission report and should have climbed into his hidden ship to go home. But he couldn’t leave her here. All the prisoners were going to be rescued in a couple of days, so it didn’t matter. But her fiery spirit might get her killed. It was too big a risk to leave her. But next time he left, he would take her with him. When Silva yelled at the guard for his rudeness, she woke up in the same cage as Rambo. The guards expected him to ravage her, but he would not do anything against her will. He told her she had been in a cryo pod from many years ago. As these people needed laborers, they woke some of the women up. They implanted translators which is how she could understand the languages. Then he put his warm arms around her and suggested they rest until the evening.

Rambo had never had a female say so bluntly that she would consider him to be a life partner, a father to her children. So he would not force himself on her. He would “romance” her as she asked. But as she slept, she dreamed of him and squirmed on him. He gripped the bars above his head to keep from interacting. When she woke, she realized what she was doing and wanted more, but he repeated that he wanted more from her – he wanted to be her life partner, not just a fleeting good time. So he lifted her off of him and told her that, if she wanted him, she had to take all of him forever. He wants “dates”, and “romancing”, just as she had described to him. He handed her a wire like she had found before, and told her to set them free. But as they started their escape, a woman called to them to free her too. Silva freed her, but she saw Rambo and screamed “demon”, running away and waking the guards! Silva and Rambo ran, but would they be able to escape now? All the guards were alerted and would see them! Had Silva just made escape impossible?

I liked the characters, especially Rambo. And I was glad to see that Silva was feisty and brave, earning her the nickname of “little fire” from Rambo. Despite foolish decisions, I think they were well suited to each other. This looks like it could be a good series.

Rambles Little Fire

I love the tone and sense of humor in this story. Silva has spark, and just the right amount of attitude, while Rambo won me over when Silva accidentally gave him a choice and he determinedly took the one less expected from an Alien named Rambo, and yet so well executed I cheered for him throughout.

This story is the first in a series, so it does a lot of world building, and does it well. The focus is on how things are, in many ways keeping our frame of reference in that of the human character, so I hope with each story we'll piece together more about when, and where, and how/why these ladies ended up in cryo pods to begin with.

This done in one Kindle unlimited quick read is tremendous fun, particularly given the setting.

Great start

I really like this series. I read the 9th book first (I received it as an ARC) and enjoyed it so much that I’ve come back to read the first 8. This book didn’t disappoint. I’m definitely ready to read #2. The names picked for the heroes of these books are hilarious. Here, we start with Rambo...a great warrior from the distant past. I can’t help but wonder how distant the past is that reality and fiction were so mixed up, but that’s never explained. Regardless, it didn’t take away from the book. The outright chivalry of the heroes that I’ve read about so far in this series has been amazing when compared to other books in this genre. It is fantastic to see.

I tried to read this mainly because it was short but also for a good laugh. Unfortunately, the writing was arguably bad and so was the plot. There’s so many of these novellas out there, by so many different authors, and the one thing they seem to have in common is that their entire reason for existing is mediocre smut with strangely looking/inhuman men, not to say monsters. I’ve yet to find more than a handful that was actually tolerable and sadly this one was not one of them.

As always, an excellent read

Deiri Di never disappoints. I have already read the book twice (just like all the others of hers) and she is one of the few authors whose books I buy automatically.

I don’t need to read reviews or even the blurbs to decide on whether or not to buy her books. If she wrote it, I KNOW I’ll like it.

too short

I find it hard to care about characters or their futures when there is so little to work with.
As much as I like this author, I almost skipped this series because the first book is not available on kindle unlimited and I think the price is too high for something this short.

Good start

The story is enjoyable, but it needs a little polishing. Silva wakes up in a cage and thinks she is dreaming. She isnt. The alien in the cage across from her is not AF. He treats her kindly. Good ending.

Pretty nice flow of story

I think this is interesting plot of humans in space, although it felt short to me. Overall it was well executed with great characters and surprise turn of events. You will need the other books for sure for the whole picture

It's easy to become addicted to this story

I started reading and couldn't put it down! The story flows easily and builds well. The characters are completely nuanced and have clear intentions. The situational drama is easy to follow but the writer still made it interesting and kept the intensity level high enough to keep me reading straight through. The novella is not long, I read it in just over an hour and I'm looking forward to reading more in this series!

different

My only thing would be longer book. Concept and world building is great, we learn a lot of Silvia but not much of Rambo. But sounds like a promising series.

weird but oddly captivating

I’m loving the spicy Star Trek vibes this is giving off and honestly I’ll continue. I love the characters even if the “strong” female lead is a pushover.

Some friends and I had the brilliant idea to browse amazons ebook section and find each other the craziest possible short story, and this is what I ended up with. I guess it could’ve been worse.

Silva wakes up in a cage with a horned alien male chained up next to her. Does she panic? Not for a second. It's obviously all happening in her head and, as she's proficient in lucid dreaming, it's the perfect opportunity to live out some fantasies. Rambo knows that she can only get by on her delusions for so long, but it's certainly entertaining to watch her while it lasts. He's an honorable guy, so if Silva is really so determined to enter into a partnership with him, it'll have to wait until their lives aren't hanging in the balance.

*Some spoilers below to explain the set-up of the series.*

The background details are kind of hazy because Silva didn't realize the reality of her situation early enough to have time to ask a ton of questions. My understanding was that there was some kind of world war scenario that messed with fertility, but a lot of humans were cryogenically frozen before they could get exposed to the environmental toxins. Now they're being awoken on a distant planet far into the future. Silva wasn't the first to be defrosted and she won't be the last, but she probably reacted as good as anyone possibly could to such a drastic shift in circumstances. Rather than dwell on what she lost, she saw her reawakening as the chance to redefine herself in the way she always wanted to be. Considering how hard she came on to Rambo, that alien could have been canonized for his restraint.

This was a fun, fast read that still managed to fit in plenty of action, humor, and steam. I look forward to getting to know more of Rambo's people and how they plan on winning over the hearts of contemporary human women.

This is quick and fun read about a human Silva who wakes up naked in a cage next to a sexy alien but since she believes its a dream she flirts and says and does things she normally won't, except its not a dream and it takes her a while to realize she is awake and she is a captive. The back story is lacking as it leaves a few gaps as Silva tries to remember what happened to her and we don't get much background on the other women and those till sleeping in the pod. It was OTT at times, yet fun to read and I will read the rest of the books in the series as they plan on saving the other women and on Silva's instance they will offer them shelter, food and galactic education rather than forcefully mating them. Good starting book for the series,

Silva awoke on a different planet, in a cage, and thinks it is a bad dream. Rambo, an alien prince, is undercover and also in a cage. Silva shows spunk by using a wire to get the lock undone. He admires her and starts to have feelings toward her. She also starts to feel for him, once she realizes she is not having a dream. They help each other and escape the planet. Relief is in sight for the rest of the trapped females here in cages and in storage pods. The characters of this new series are well rounded with back stories and plenty of guts. The ingenuity of the two and how he takes charge later to make sure no one is hurt or used. Looks like a good start and plenty of questions for later stories.

Silva wakes in a cage, sure she’s having a lucid dream. Seeing the sexy alien male in the cage next to hers, and because it was she flirts, as she looks for a way out. Once she realizes this isn’t a dream, she also starts to realize she has no memory of going home the night prior, and things don’t look right.

After continued resistance against some serious, high level religious dogma, she’s thrown into the cage with the alien male as punishment.

What caught my eye was the consent call out. I was interested in seeing how this would play out in such a setting, with all the cultural differences between the characters.

I found this to be a fun little read and will probably read more by this author and in this series.

This was a very well-written book 1 in the Cryo Crisis Book Series was intriguing as it has amazingly well-thought out scenes and story plots. These well crafted characters have very strong personalities and their interactions are believable. This story has the following: intrigue, twists and turns, adventure, action, love, steam and a HEA. It is a fast-paced and will keep you interested from start to finish. I will be on the lookout for books by this author.

Silva is different, my first impression of her was she was either loony or very brave. Turns out she was smart and practical.

The story is light, with a bit of seriousness but there was love. And Prince Rambo would make a fine Prince.
