Nash has been struggling to get back on his feet after his last set of surgeries. He pushed for a transfer to Hathaway House on an old friend’s recommendation and finally made it there—after multiple frustrating delays—only to find that he isn’t ready for the strides he hopes to make in the new facility.

To add insult to injury, on his first day at Hathaway House, he comes face-to-face with Alicia, the only woman he’s ever loved and the last woman he’d want to see him in his current condition.

Alicia let Nash go more than a decade ago, unwilling to settle for a long-distance relationship with the sailor, certain that her future would bring other dreams and other loves. But, when her brother fell ill, all her dreams shattered. She devoted herself to nursing him and, after his death, to helping others.

Seeing Nash again is both pleasure and pain. The rapport between them is instant, as if the years apart had never happened. But, if they couldn’t make things work back then, when life was bright and new, do the people they’ve become in the years since have a shot at a future together?

Dale Mayer never disappoints. This story deals with guilt, disappointment, emotional and physical healing and how to begin again. Lots of important lessons to learn at any age. Nash and Alicia were in love in high school but they each wanted.different things. Nash wanted to go into the Navy and Alicia wanted to go to fashion design school. They meet again at Hathaway House. This is their story.

In this series, the author honors our military men and women who are seriously injured in the line of duty. She always shares her admiration for their courage, strength and determination as they go through extensive surgeries and months of rehabilitation.

While on a mission, Nash’s vehicle hits an IED, which “wasted” one side of his body. When he moves to Hathaway House from another hospital, he still has a lot of work ahead of him. This is the story of how the Hathaway House staff bands together to help Nash overcome his injuries.

This story is a little different than the other books in this series. In this story, Nash’s former high school sweetheart, Alicia, is also imperfect. The two had broken up when Nash went into the military, and she was supposed to go to college. Unfortunately, soon after Nash left, Alicia discovered that her brother had cancer. He lived, in pain, for seven years after his diagnosis, while Alicia was his caregiver.

When her brother dies, Alicia becomes a nurse. She has just recently joined the Hathaway House staff and, coincidently, happens to be on Nash’s team. When the couple meets again, they discover that they still have feelings for each other. However, they also realize that neither of them is the same person they were when they were in high school. This is their love story.

The only problem I have with this story is that Alicia has become too “morose [and] depressed” to be a nurse for injured military people. Their nurses should be uplifting and cheerful. Yet, she would often be gloomy when she visited Nash instead of focusing on building up his confidence.

However, in Alicia’s case, her problems are exactly what Nash needs. He loves her, and wants to help her through her problems. His love for Alicia, and his need to help her, seems to take his mind off of his own issues and motivates him to work harder. .

Nevertheless, I still enjoyed this book. Not only did the staff help Nash, but they also worked to help Alicia. I like the way the staff works to help Alicia deal with the death of her brother, even though she is only a staff member.

Nash is getting frustrated, there's a bed for him a Hathaway House but he hasn't yet been cleared. While this isn't uncommon, in his case a four day wait becomes eleven and he was more than ready to start fresh. He promised his roommate Owen he would let him know how things work out. Like many new residents he first starts to check things out, only to step wrong and hurt himself. On top of the travel stress and general tiredness the pain and cramping is intense.

Having read the other books in this series, when Shane walks in and starts asking him questions about the hows and location of the pain then offers a massage of the area, I was screaming let him help you! Sigh alas Nash is going to suffer in silence for a bit.

Then he hears a voice he recognizes but thinks it's his imagination. His once girlfriend Alicia couldn't be here. He didn't tell anyone he was coming this close to home. Nursing wasn't what Alicia was planning on doing, but then people do change their minds, or circumstances do.

Alicia is on his team and he's okay with that, but she still hasn't come in to say hello like others on his team have. She has a conversation with Dani before she does, I really loved their reunion in spite of the professionalism.

As Nash begins his journey, he finds how different the professionals here are. He also loves the animals that he sees around, some permanent residents others temporary at the vet clinic downstairs..

The addition of a miniature horse is a source of quite a few giggles from me as Dani can't resist any more than Stan can.

Alicia has things to work through as well, it's a suggestion from Nash that gets her started after another uncomfortable conversation with her mother.

Alicia's parents are another thing she is trying to deal with alone and their is plenty of support at Hathaway House.

I love the way Nash and Alicia's relationship begins anew as they begin healing journeys together and apart.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series, and if you haven't started it yet, there are now bundles of three to help you catch up quickly.

Veteran Nash had been struggling with his recovery after his last set of surgeries and had pushed for a transfer to Hathaway House on an old friend's recommendation. After multiple delays, he finally makes it there only find out that he is not ready to make the progress he hopes to make there. Then on his first day there, he comes face to face with old flame Alicia - the only woman he has ever loved and the last woman he wants to see him in his current condition. Alicia let Nash go more than a decade ago as she wasn't willing to settle for a long-distance relationship with a sailor, but when her brother became ill not long afterwards her own dreams were shattered and she instead cared for him then after his untimely death caring for others. Seeing Nash again is a great pleasure tinged with pain although their rapport is back in an instant as if they were never apart. Can they make it work now or after all this time is it is fruitless exercise?

This was a really sweet story that showed that there can be a chance for love the second time around and that it is much better because of the life experiences you have lived through to get there. I loved all of the soul searching and the discussion around grief and that you cannot sit on it and leave it buried if you want to move on with your life. I loved the way that everyone around them was supportive and giving them both the encouragement they needed to sort out the things in their lives that needed attention so that they could move on. I loved the ending and the way that Nash made sure that when he was sure of what he wanted he went for it. Well written and easy to read and understand.

Yet another beautiful story in the amazing Hathaway House series.
Nash and Alicia had been an item for a long time until life got in the way, Alicia wanted to follow a career in design and Nash was determined to join the navy. Neither thought that a long distance romance would work so reluctantly but amicably, they split.
Life dealt both of them a duff card, Alicia was to give up her dream of design in order to nurse her beloved brother Jerry through nine years of cancer until his untimely death. Alicia continued in nursing in the hope that she could help others in a way that she couldn't help Jerry.
Nash's dream to be transferred to Hathaway House was hard fought for and an agonising wait. After sustaining life threatening injuries when an IED exploded Nash knew that Hathaway House was his best chance of recovery.
Hathaway House is a rehabilitation centre specializing in the treatment of military personnel, it's wonderful staff treat patients holistically, each having their own team and their own program.
When Nash found that Alicia was working at Hathaway House and was on his team he was both delighted and nervous, what would Alicia thing when she saw his once athletic body now broken ?
Alicia also looked to their first meeting with trepidation, what would Nash think of the once vibrant, fun loving Alicia who was now a troubled soul, wrecked with guilt ?
The team at Hathaway House, from owner Dani, physio, Shane to Dennis from the kitchen were determined to heal both Nash and Alicia.
The romance was rekindled through this heart warming story, the long meaningful conversations and the psychology are so well written.

So Good.

Another successful recovery and relationship coming out of Hathaway House!

Alicia is carrying a lot of emotional baggage when she returns to Hathaway House to find her ex, Nash, is going to be a patient, and what will that mean for her? Alicia and Nash were an item way back when they were just kids dreaming about their futures. Alicia was looking forward to a career in fashion design and Nash was going into the Navy. It was Nash’s decision to go into the Navy that confirmed their fate at that time. They broke up and haven’t had any contact since then.

Nash needs Hathaway House to help him recover from his injuries sustained while in the Navy. Alicia’s career path changed dramatically when her brother became ill with cancer and she stayed behind to take care of him. Her brother’s illness was hard on everyone. Losing a loved one to cancer is never an easy situation.

I enjoyed this story which I found to be spot on with what the ravages of illness can do to the care giver. This is very heartfelt and true to life. I felt it is very well written, with the emotions and reactions that Alicia has to the event of losing her brother, a sad, but realistic occurrence. I enjoyed the breakthrough Alicia was able to have and the peace she found because of it.

A sweet love story with a second chance at love.

Nash has been delayed in going to Hathaway House but is now finally there after hearing what amazing things happen there. He is excited and knows that his old flame from before he went into the Navy is living in the same city that Hathway House is located in. He hopes to run into her but not on his first day there.

Alicia has worked at Hathaway House before but has recently come back after some training. Alicia is surprised to see him as they rekindle their old relationship in the hopes of moving on to more. But first both need to heal from the traumas they suffered. It won't be easy but magical things happen at Hathaway House.

I love this series. Nash and Alicia's story was a bit different in that they each had to heal, him in the physical sense and her in the emotional sense. They also knew each other before he got hurt much like Dani and Aaron. I love reading about the characters and the journeys they take. The animals are an added bonus and they keep adding to the numbers. As always, Dennis is there to provide wonderful food and good advice on the side. I hope he gets a story too. I am very invested in this series. Hathaway House has it all, healing, hope, love, animals, support, and good food. It would be nice if a place like this really existed in the world.

Another uplifting but deeply emotional story from Hathaway House, each story is different, covering so many issues. I love that though initially you expect it to be mainly about the injured veteran, very often, as in this one, it is actually the supposedly healthy character dealing with the deeper problem. I loved that these two 're connected, firstly as friends, getting to know each other as they are now, his patience and understanding and her acceptance helping them to move forward to a brighter future. I also enjoyed hearing snippets of a few previous characters, I think that since at least one character works in this place getting a catch up now and then just adds to the enjoyment and how real and natural these stories are. I find these stories to be very inspiring, the surroundings and animals help to make it both magical and entirely beneficial to aid the healing in whatever way is needed. Staff that go out of their way to help but not takeover and to give a push when needed but also be friendly. I would love to think places could really exist like this, it could help so many that need it. Wonderful read and one I thoroughly enjoyed. Started 2/7/21 Finished 3/7/21

This series always inspires, always reminds us of the courage and strength of our deployed and really brings home what our wounded endure. I truly wish there was something like Hathaway House for our wounded vets. This one does not delve as deeply on the wounded hero, Nash. Yes he struggles, and doesn't see the progress he makes, but out of all of the books in this series, Nash comes in with his head in the game. Yes he has set backs, but his eyes are open and he is searching for his success. Imagine struggling to get to a good hospital / rehab and run into your ex! Alicia appears to have a much more emotional issues, from her past. I don't want to give things away, you need to read the book, but suffice to say she put in some years and carries the pain and loss. A story of loss and acceptance, growth and living life to your best. Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

When Nash finally gets to the Hathaway house, he doesn’t expect to see his ex, Alicia, from years ago, a woman he never forgot. They were young and left on amicable terms, she didn’t want to wait around for Nash when he joined the service as she had plans. Her plans fell through and now years later she is a different woman, and Nash is a different man. The spark is still there but can Alicia let go of her past to move forward with the only man who ever held her heart.
Another sweet clean read about second chances and great characters. This read was more focused on Alicia and her struggles moving on, which was different and not so much on Nash and his recovery. I missed that part, his struggles, his determination, his strength on how he gets better. I did enjoy the no drama, no miscommunication, the recurring characters and how easily they fit together.

I loved how Alicia and Nash had a strong past but after parting ways had both been through a trauma, one mental and the other physical so even though they are different on a deep level they got the other is going through a lot. I did feel this book was more even split with time between Alicia and Nash and I liked it as in this instance they already had a personal relationship in the past and it was more on them working on themselves as well as learning who the knew them was. When Alicia sees Dr Simmons it just breaks your heart and you see how much she has held in and let break her, while seeing Nash see life isn't over and not only is he making such great gains with his recovery (while getting some good nudges from Shane and others) he see he has a lot to give and still to do in life and that future includes Alicia.

Nash by Dale Mayer
Hathaway House Series Book Fourteen
Nash Covington was so ready to go to Hathaway House after his friend Cole had gone there. They'd made a difference in Cole and he just knew they'd help him. Plus, it was near all he knew...Dallas. He even hoped to reconnect with an ex-girlfriend...as a friend.

Alicia loved her new job at Hathaway House as a nurse. She still felt like an outsider. Maybe because she lived in town instead of on the campus. What she didn't expect was her new patient...Nash.

Nash and Alicia had been through a lot of changes in ten years. They were two different people. They were young when they dated. He wanted to go to the navy and she had her own path to follow. And now that those paths reconnected...could they find the spark that they had left behind now that they'd both been broken in body and soul? Love Hathaway House!

Nash is eager to go to Hathaway House for further recovery of his war wounds. Nash is surprised to have his former girlfriend Alicia as his nurse. When Nash decided to join the military ten years ago, Alicia didn't want to wait for him so they agreed to break up. Nash is surprised that the former party girl is now a somber woman. Alicia's role of her late brother's caretaker has affected her. Both of them will start recovering and reconnecting. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I love this book and this series of wounded veterans recovering. It's good to be reminded that almost everyone has wounds of some kind. I like that Hathaway House's program is focused on more than the physical recovery. I also always enjoy the story of the animals that are at the center. I love this sweet second chance romance.

Nash & Alicia

Nash is the 14th book in the Hathaway House series by Dale Mayer. Each book is a different story yet usually centres around a former military person needing extra help to recover from injuries. Nash meets up with a former girlfriend, Alicia. They had a mutual ending of a relationship due to wanting to go different career paths. I look forward to reading dialogues with Dennis, ‘the face of the dining room’ who encourages people to eat well to improve their progress. Then there are the animals and Stan. This time the animal needing help is a miniature horse. Dani is there to make sure all is running smoothly with patients, staff and animals. The book always ends with a happy ending, then the epilogue introduces the next person who will be going to Hathaway House. I really enjoy this series for the encouraging, uplifting theme that Dale Mayer writes in every book. Highly recommend this book and the whole series.

Nash was anxious to get to Hathaway House after friends had given him glowing reports of the rehab available there and they encouraged him to apply. He also knew a friend from his past was working there and he wanted to reconnect. He and Alicia had agreed to part ways when Nash decided to join the Navy and she didn't want a long distance relationship. However, a lot had happened in the years that followed and she was chasing her own demons and a career change. Nash was facing the same for different reasons. The many available resources and love of all kinds helped them both. I really enjoyed this book and it's many relatable problems with answers available to all including the reader. Still tugs at heart strings but in a good way!

A broken mess?

This is a second chance at love for Nash and Alicia, they never stopped loving each other but were too young and needed to take different paths, so went their separate ways. Their paths meet again, however life has dealt them both a number of challenges over the years, making them very different people to the who they were before, with emotional baggage and physical difficulties to overcome can this be their second chance at first love?
Dale Mayer once again challenges us to face numerous difficult subjects, but does so with care and compassion, giving the respect due to both military veterans and those facing life changing situations.
I love every visit to Hathaway House, even when they leave me emotionally wrecked, it is like returning to visit friends.

While serving his country Nash not only endured a career ending injury but one that changed his life as well. Hathaway House is his last hope towards healing from the injuries but finding out that his first love is a nurse there will either be the best thing to happen to him or the worst.

Alicia and Nash fell in love as teenagers, but it wasn’t strong enough to overcome their different career paths. Alicia had plans of attending college until her dreams were put on hold to be there for her brother and that experience showed her what her true path in life should be.

Due to their life experiences neither Nash nor Alicia are the same people they used to be however the chemistry and connection between them hadn’t diminished while they were apart, and it is finally their time.

This is such a heart warming series, you'll always be hoping for their HEA.
These medically retired heroes both men and women find themselves at Hathaway House, defeated, broken and often given up. Expecting to live the rest of their lives in pain.
Nash was really no different, he arrived in pain and needed his security blanket being his wheelchair for some time.
Alicia, one of the nurses is someone he had a relationship with a decade ago, both young with their own dreams. Now both older with emotional and physical baggage. Can the magic of this place work for them?
Another beautiful tale in this wonderful series, I loved it.

Just about to give up and Hathaway House is Nash's last chance to get better. After being delayed Nash finally arrives but thinks he is dreaming when he hears a voice from his past.
Alicia is settling in to a new job when she finds herself face to face with her old high school boyfriend.
Both wanted different things in life so they went their separate ways only to meet again when both are at crossroads.
Can they put the past behind them, working together in the current and plan for a future together?
A lovely pace love story.

Hathaway House - a place for healing and romance. Nash is a SEAL who was injured in an IED attack and has arrived to heal, to regain as much of his former physical self as possible. He meets many professionals and new friends, including a high school girl friend who has her own healing needed. Exploration of self and relationships and growth. Warm and fuzzy, serious and heartful. Bravo!!

The Hathaway House stories are always uplifting stories of wounded warriors fighting their way back to health and vitality. Nash wants the rehab but also wants to be near the woman he left behind when he joined the Navy. Alicia happens to have become a nurse in the ensuing years and works at Hathaway House. Their stories are similar in some ways and they try to get back what they had then. So this is also a second chance romance. And a very good one. Very enjoyable!
