Just Business

Niamh Lynch has always enjoyed her job - that is, until she must deliver the bad news that there will be heavy redundancies due to a restructure.

Finding herself a target of anger and at the centre of nasty legal threats, Niamh begins to sort through the claims. Single father Scott Morgan has a genuine grievance about being hired only a month prior to the restructure. But it is other cases that surface which lead Niamh to wonder if all is above board at software company HDD.

The deeper Niamh delves, the more she discovers that it's so much more than just business and that her professional concern for Scott is becoming something else entirely...

About the author

Ber Carroll

Ber Carroll (also known as B.M. Carroll.) was born in Blarney, a small but rather famous village in Ireland. The third child of six, she often retreated from the chaos of family life by immersing herself in books.

Ber moved to Sydney in 1995 and began to climb the corporate ladder. Her dynamic work environment captured her imagination and inspired her first novel. Ber is now the author of twelve novels, which never fails to surprise her. In recent years, her writing has become darker and more twisted (reflecting her state of mind!). Her most recent novels are: The Missing Pieces of Sophie McCarthy (2018), Who We Were (2020), You Had It Coming (2021), The Other Side of Her (2023) and One of Us Is Missing (2024).

Ber gave up her finance career when she realised that she couldn’t hold down a demanding job, be mum to two small children and write books to contractual deadline. She lives in Sydney's Northern Beaches with her husband, children (who are adults now) and PJ, the family dog.

Well what can't I say? Except I am so glad I discovered Ber Carroll. I was in a bit of a reading funk ( I hadn't read a book in five days), yes I know that's not a long time but it is too me. I must have picked up at least ten books, some of which I have been waiting to read and none of them interested me. Then I thought why not just grab another Ber Carroll book, so I did. Just Business was such a great book, I think I even enjoyed it more than 'WorldsApart'. From the first page I knew I had finally found a book to read. Nice clear language and smooth writing style, was just what I needed, not to mention a great story. I was totally absorbed in the world of HDD, and it's staff. Niamh was a great character and I enjoyed her story. This is a good read for anyone who just wants to sit back, relax and enjoy an interesting story with great character. Well that's two Ber Carroll books down I can't wait to start my next.

This is the 2nd Ber Carroll book that I have read. I'm so glad that I have discovered this author.
Her books are well written, engrossing, non-complicated, and an easy read. Perfect for a relaxing weekend. I'm just about to start another of her books - they are addictive. 5 stars from me.

Intriguing!

I really enjoyed this novel. As all of hers books, it is well-written, has memorable characters and this was a good mystery.

A bit of a who-dun-it in the workplace. She's the head of human resources who has the unsavoury task of cutting jobs, but why does one particular ex-employee need his job back and why is her life now in danger.

A nice easy read to curl up with in these cold winter months.
