Reality is merely Perception! Truth is simply ones and zeros! The RED KIMONO is the A.I.'s method of eliciting information, gathering intelligence . . . And this method is very effective! The Kimono can be any color, of course. The color depends upon your perception, your state of mind. The Kimono's natural color is red. That's what the A.I. prefers, and created. And She . . . well, She is something you'll just have to experience for yourself--And you will! She is Sublime, Exquisite, and excruciatingly efficient as She extracts everything you know, everything you feel, and everything you are.Let these stories take you into the not so distant future, down paths yet unexplored; where you might be shocked, delighted, dismayed or intrigued; but you'll most definitely be entertained. If you enjoy stories by Philip K. Dick, Isaac Asimov, or Ray Bradbury, then you're almost certainly going to enjoy this book!
Science fiction has never been a genre that I have ever felt attracted to. My father seemed to read nothing but SciFi. The various stories were all okay for me, and some were very good. However, all it takes is one bad apple to spoil the barrel. No sexual sensational behavior, no graphic violence, but a good head-scratcher all around.
The Red Kimono is a collection of sci-fi / futuristic short stories, many of them centering around A.I. or similar topics. Mark Stattelman has interesting ideas, and my take-aways were: "there's so much more that could have been done with these ideas" and "man, he needs an editor". It probably didn't help that I read this in close conjunction with Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang, another collection of sci-fi stories, marvelously crafted and fully fleshed-out. Having said that, it certainly wasn't wasted time, and I enjoyed the stories, but the author's writing can be a bit trite and lazy, generally failing to do full justice to the quality of the underlying idea.
I received The Red Kimono as a Goodreads Giveaway. Those who know me know it would never bias my opinion, but I do want to disclose that fact.
I received a digital copy of this book through a Goodreads giveaway. (Thank you, Mr. Stattelman!)
I enjoyed this collection of short stories, all of which are science/speculative fiction. Some, like “Resonance Shift” made me chuckle. (Is this the reason for “an off day”?) Others, like “All Possible Worlds”, broke my heart. (In the same shoes, would you make the same choice?) “The Safety of the Corrtu” and the title story, “The Red Kimono” have a surrealism about them that I liked. In all, I’m satisfied and pleased to have this on my digital shelf. I would recommend this to others.
I received this in a Goodreads giveaway, but I have read quite a few short story collections and this was a pretty good collection if you're into Sci-Fi and maybe some mild horror.
Overall, this is an interesting collection of short stories that do manage to feel distinct. There were some that really sucked me in like All Possible Worlds and The Safety of the Corrtu, and there were a few that were just short and sweet and made you stop and say "Huh, okay, so that's where he was going with that. Neat." A couple didn't necessarily appeal to me, which is pretty typical for a collection of short stories, but overall there were some really clever stories in here. Some minor spelling errors here and there, but not enough to detract from the content.
This is the type of collection that I would have bought if I saw it on sale and would have enjoyed it for the price. I'll probably pick up Esmirana's Trunk or Rohmer's Garden next.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway that I probably shouldn’t have entered, as hard-core science fiction is not my preference. However the book was an easy read, a collection of short stories. Some of them I really enjoyed. They had clever twists that surprised me. Others, like the title story, were too abstract for me to understand. Overall I wasn’t a fan.
This was an intriguing read. Some of the short stories I did not want to end, some of the stories ended well, and others I just didn't understand. This was an easy read and page turner in the sense where I wanted to see what was coming next. For a giveaway read I was pleased.
I'm not surprised the book and stories were good,I'm surprised I liked them. It's not what I'm looking to read. Glad I took the chance. I really like the way they are written. I recommend this book.
This was a GoodReads giveaway win of a Kindle ebook.
I have to say that for a short story collection, this collection rang a bell for me. The most consistent set of stories that I actually enjoyed as a set. I will have to add Statesman to my list of authors to watch.
This was a very interesting book of short science fiction stories. They were all very well written. I liked that this book was a quick read. A few of the stories I wished were longer. Thank you Goodreads for this interesting read.
