Rocke #1

Rise Above

Rate this book
Lily Rocke learnt from a young age how to act as though everything was okay, how to use humour to hide what she was really feeling. Underneath it all she was battling with constant worries and battling with her need to always put others first. Her life consisted of being close to her crazy family and working in her predictable and unfulfilling job, and that’s just how she liked it. She thrived off of living in busy London and going completely unnoticed. It was predictable; a boring and mundane life. But most importantly to Lily, it was safe. That all changed when her job sent her to work in a small town in Texas. Lily would no longer be able to hide and go unnoticed on the busy streets of London.Being an English girl in a small town in Texas, she could no longer hide. When thrown into the spotlight not only did she catch the attention of the entire town, but also the president of the Satan’s Outlaw MC.Deep down none of that mattered; it was the attention of Blake Stone that Lily secretly craved. What Lily failed to see was that she had Blake Stone's full attention, he just hid it from her.Lily would later find out that having Blake’s attention would not only put her heart on the line, but her life too. This small town and the people in it would make her grow and change her life, and not just for the better. It would force her to face the darkest times in order to overcome her fears and anxieties, and ultimately force her to trust her heart and fall in love.It would force Lily to Rise Above. This book is filled with embarrassing family members, tequila, a lot of laughter, some seriously hot alphas, and gripping suspense.Rise Above, book one in the Rocke Series, is a page turner you will not want to put down.Rise Above has been redited since it was originally released.

I'm a self published author. I fell in love with reading as an adult, when I found the romance genre. I immediately got sucked into the stories and fell in love.
The romcom, the dark, the Suspense, all of them!

I struggled a lot with reading and writing when I was younger. Being dyslexic made it extremely hard for me, but I loved writing stories even then.

I wrote Rise Above in secret too scared and embarrassed that it wasn't good enough, that people would laugh at it, at me.
My husband pushed me to take the leap. So I did. Not having an editor to start with and a friend making my cover it scary jumping into a world your unsure of what to do. Learning as I go.
Its the best decision I ever made. The response was amazing.
I am currently working on the rest of the series. And plan on writing until I run out of words.
I love it and one thing I've learnt is you only live once and you should to do what you love and what makes you happy.
I hope that people enjoy my stories as much as I enjoy writing them.

Unrealistic situations, dialogue, and actions. Things would happen just for the sake of the situation and it was too much like slap stick comedy, so not good. Things were all happening too fast. One minute she's throwing up all over a guy because of her anxiety, the next she's laughing with her nephew about him accidentally bringing his mom's dildos to class (why does every "romcom" have dildos to try to make something funny?). The heroine literally acts like a 16 year old too. I know the author tried to write about her anxieties to give the character more depth and something for the reader to relate with, but it just didn't work out that way. It just made her seem immature and a complainer. Also, the grammar is horrid, and too many mistakes. Couldn't make it past the first couple of chapters, heh.

The cover for Rise Above doesn’t do this book justice. It’s a crazy, witty, sassy and fun rollercoaster mixed into one. The adventure is entertaining and the characters are unique.

The set-up: Lily is a reporter of sorts and is given the task of visiting Texas. Lily is a London girl who has a demon in her closet. She is quick witted and won’t take any nonsense. Other than the fact she missed the part where her boss volunteered her for the mission.

When she arrives in Texas it’s so much more than she expects. Both good and bad. At the centre of her new world is Blake. Can she find love on the other side of the water? Can a town where you need a thick skin really win her heart?

This is more than a romance. It’s a new world with a gritty storyline. It features MC outlaws, danger and adult material. This can be read as a standalone however it’s part of a series.

These are available on KU.

Lily Rocke is extremely close with her family after an incident that left her shattered when she was young. Being told she has to be sent to Texas for an article for her paper she is a bit dismayed but knows her job depends on it. What she doesn't expect is to be stranded and hanging out a biker bar full of hunks only to be swept away by Blake Stone who is helping the family she is supposed to be staying with.

Lily doesn't know what to think of Blake, one minute he is sweet to her and then the next he acts like he can barely tolerate her. Mixed messages and a man who seems intent on causing her harm, Lily finds herself under Blake's protection but is it just a holiday fling or are they building something more?

This was exceptional in fact I could not put it down and picked up the next book the same day. I thought Lily was a hoot and loved the angle of her being from England and trying to fit into Texas life. The side characters are so much fun and Blake is pure alpha male. Throw in the bikers who help Blake out and you are in for an entertaining ride.

Absolutely loved it!

Blake Stone is my kind of alpha. Strong, brooding, growly & there for his woman. Oh my, did poor Lily have her hurdles. I really felt for her, especially at 80% in (no spoilers here, but I was in safe hands. It all came good in the end).

I wasn’t expecting to laugh so much too! So many funny lines & stories. The Rocke family are my spirit family. I love them. All of them. I would be Brit Gran rocking out too!

A fabulous 5 star read.

Oh my, this book has a little bit of everything.
Drama, steam, wit, shocks, and funny as hell. Several times I was laughing so hard.
Not only do you get comedy, but you get a load of angst that had me flipping the pages so fast!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and Lily is an amazing heroine. She tells it like it is and her relationship with her family is so funny and heartwarming.
I really enjoyed Lily and Blake’s story and I can’t wait to read the rest!

Good!

I went into this book only looking at a cover, so I think i expected something dark. I didn't expect the fun and witty characters. Of course it had it's twists that kept us hooked, but the story is a lot more than what the cover portrays. I definitely recommend this book. I liked the story, the characters, and the setting. There was a few editing issues, but all in all it was a good read. I look forward to reading book 2.

This was my first book by L.G Campbell and I really enjoyed it. I loved Lily's sass and she made me laugh with some of the things she would come out with. There are some very hot Texan men in it 😍. This was a fab, fun and light read. I'm looking forward to reading #2!

Wow... This book left me speechless. I love all the humor it has (don't start reading it at night, because you won't be able to hold in the laughter)! I love Blake's and Lily's story; I felt my heart breaking at all the bad luck Lily had. I just couldn't keep all my tears in. This story made me feel like I was there with her feeling all the pain she was in. She's such a loving person and so naive, that it made me so angry to think of everything that was happening to her. But I was glad to see that the author was able to show how close she was to her family and friends. I love the way the author found a way to put in humor and suspense in a love story of two very different people from different parts of the world. LG CAMPBELL, THANK YOU SO MUCH I HAVEN'T LAUGHED SO HARD IN A LONG TIME! I hope the humor keeps on going in the next book of the series. I can't wait to read it! One more thing - this was my favorite quote from the book: "Things that happen in our life don't always change us. But they do shape us into the people we are today. What we choose to let shape us determines our life choices and who we become. Sometimes you need to let go and rise above." We should all keep this in mind.

Enjoyed the story and characters enough to follow through but grammar was atrocious and there were too many times that Texans were using British vernacular. It didn’t make sense. Liked Lily’s family and Lily, but she had one too many things happen to her to put her in victim mode.

The first word that comes to mind for me with Rise Above - Unexpected! For the first half of the book I was howling! The Rocke family are hilarious and the laughs only continued when Lily embarks on her work assignment to Texas. There is a light-hearted feel to the story and when she meets Blake I thought I was in store for a swoony holiday romance novel.

But Rise Above isn't as straight forward as that and this is why it's so unexpected, in a great way. There are many layers to the main characters and to the story. Lily is not just a crazy, funny, curvy girl, she has a naivety to her, as well as anxieties and insecurities which affect her interactions with people on this new adventure. She is always looking out for others and their feelings, even at detriment to her own welfare. Blake is not just a Texan gentlemen, he is guarded at first due to a painful past, and is fiercely protective of those he cares for, and we see new sides to him when we learn of his ties to the Outlaws.

There is of course, some drama interspersed through their story, but around half way through the book, this picks up in intensity and some of the humour falls away while dealing with the dramatic and traumatic events that occur. I was completely thrown by this, but it just made me more invested in the book!

I was drawn further into the story and invested because of how much I loved the characters at this point. The supporting characters are also amazing, Lily's family, her new friends and the outlaws are great and I'm looking forward to seeing more of them in the rest of the Rocke series.

This was Lauren's debut novel and I am impressed with it. The layers of the characters and storyline, the balance between humour and drama, and setting us up for the rest of the series by making us love the supporting characters. I loved it all! ❤

Rise Above: A Rocke Novel by L. G. Campbell

I am voluntarily reviewing this ARC.

Lily is living happily in London England with her sister and nephew when her job sends her to Texas to report on a new farming technique. Once there, she attracts the attention of quite a few amazing men as well a few dispicable ones. Blake tried to ignore his attraction to her, but can’t, and so their story begins. Both Lily and Blake are good to the core characters that I couldn’t help but love. Lilies insecurities and thought processes reminded me of Bridget Jones Diary and had me laughing and relating as I’m sure most women could, and wanting to cheer her on in all she did. Their love story has twists and turns and loops that keep you on the edge of your seat.

Unfortunately, I read the second book, Wallflower, before I read this book, but it didn’t take anything away from the story or me.

Rise above is a steamy, fun read that is action packed and a total page turner.

Rise Above is a spectacular read! I just absolutely adored Lily and Blake's story. The first of what I hope is to be many if stories from this author, this novel tugged on my heartstrings and made me laugh with homely comfort.

This book was dramatic, and graphic. So beware if there are themes that are sensitive to you.

I just absolutely adored Lily and Blake. I felt their love instantly (just like they did) and I could not help but be swallowed up by it all. I loved Blake's alphaness, and I adored Lily's beauty and personality.

And I absolutely adore Lily's family. They are incredible, loyal and hilarious. A Golden kinda family!

Rise Above is a fantastic, humorous yet dramatic and incredible read. I loved it all. I simply could not get enough of it. incredible!

So much humour is involved in Lily's world especially when her family is involved!
Lily travels to Texas for work and her life is flipped upside down when she meets the formidable and hot alpha Blake Stone!
Hes hot...hes handsome and full of protectiveness towards anyone in his life.
I was loving all the characters we met through the book and cant wait to read more for this series.

This was a recommended as a five star read in a Facebook group. It has a lot going for it, Bikers, Cowboys, an H with a accent. The story and characters were interesting, but it all felt rushed. I think this could have worked well a a duet.

This is a new to me author. While i enjoyed the book there were a few errors but nothing i couldnt get past and continue to enjoy the story! I love Lily. Her being British was quite hilarious to read all her phrases and such. There were so many guys introduced in this book i at first was sad when she ended up with one guy rather than the other but it worked out in the end! Now i cant wait to read the other book.
