Mankind hangs on by a thread in the wake of the apocalypse. Other races are soon to join the struggle for power on Earth. The Culling of Man was only the beginning. . .
Scattered across the globe, ten Dungeons may provide humanity with the protection and power they'll need to remain relevant through the perils to come.
Before a Dungeon can be claimed, it must be conquered.
Garath's goal is clear: claim the nearest Dungeon for humanity. But he can't do it alone. Old friends and new acquaintances band together to form an elite team and take on The Tower of Vy'thishrak.
In the second installation of Peril's Prodigy, we take a closer look at several new Classes and abilities. Explore a plethora of new dungeons. Finally find out what's inside that damned mysterious egg. And watch Garath's group of survivors in their attempt to claim The Tower.
First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
Over the past year it has become apparent that my reviews are somewhat antagonistic and I apologize to those of you that have taken offense. I think I had hoped to change peoples’ minds about reviewing works of art and that seems to have backfired spectacularly. However, I am still going to be true to myself and write what I believe.
To the author: Thank you for this chance to escape reality and enjoy the world you created! Keep up the good work.
To my fellow reviewers: Messaging me and reviewing my reviews is as productive as trying to shovel water out of the ocean. Stop. I get it. Let’s just all live peacefully.
To potential readers: Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
First things first, I did not write a review on the first book. I apologize, I did not realize you were self-published and I should have been more diligent and reviewed the first book.
Secondly I did thoroughly enjoy both books. The premise surrounding your world is interesting. Most modern lit RPG books are based around virtual reality. It's refreshing to see a book based on actual reality plus lit RPG elements.
I would say I'm looking forward to the third book but it seems like there's going to be a lot of city building and infrastructure to be worried about and honestly that type of lit RPG book usually loses my interest. Hopefully the base building aspect didn't take away from the story too much.
An insulting book in many ways. I was able to get through the first one, but only made it a fraction into this one.
The concept and world of this book are not new. The characters aren't very believable. The best survivers in this book continue to be loner gamers who somehow get along with each other now that the world was basically annihilated. They survive even though they barely left their homes before, had no real activities other then work and had no social skills.
Yeah, no. Just no.
I'm a gamer, I achieved the first Grand Marshal on Lightbringer, and I know gamers. Some are as described, but many are fully functional and understand others as well. I just can't see the main protagonists surviving and thriving.
The main character is well drawn and interesting. The secondary characters, not so much. It’s a romp more than anything. We meet the boy and he and his new found friends and powers save their corner of the world. He of course has a love interest but unlike the harem books, sex doesn’t dominate the story. The second book is the exploration of the new system, the new world, and getting to know the secondary characters. Also, gaining power for battles to come. It’s a terrific read if you want a good story and distraction from real life.
The story is alright, interesting enough, I personally didn't really care for the mc his abilities class choices etc. That sort of ruins the whole thing, everyone can shape shift into every animal they meet, the mc is a demon summoner, neither of these things really grab my attention, take those out, or maybe change them with almost anything else and it's a pretty interesting story. Not bad, and if you're interested in the shifting into animals or the summoner type characters this would be right up your alley.
Decent follow-up book, but didn’t live up to its potential
Was Garath the reason that his team experienced the tower as they did? Were the previous teams’ motives unworthy? Or their ideals out of sync with the guardian? Does each Dungeon require not only adequate preparation, but also a specific mindset?
A lot happened in this book, but it felt a bit undirected. Why was Warrion sidelined so early in the story? Can anyone create a guild? If so, why did it take so long? If not, what criteria did Gary have to create the BoTH guild separate from the dungeon guild?
This so far two book series has been a great journey. I really enjoyed the premise of the story, a mix between apocalypse and fantasy in form of LitRPG. The characters and their relationships develop nicely. The BeastScape skill is amazing and opens so many possibilities. I am really happy to have come across this and look very much forward to book #3.
I loved the first book and how the characters were shown battling through an apocalypse. The second felt like a new cast. These were not people fighting an apocalypse with gamer mechanics but gamers playing during an apocalypse setting. The feel was completely 180 from the last and it left a bad taste in my mouth.
Most litrpg use a system that encourages violence for violence shake, this books reaches beyond that simplicity and makes you think a bit. Note, there is still violence here, but it is more than murderhobo heaven.
Much better than the 1st book. I will definitely want to read book three. Fast paced page turner with interesting characters that you can instantly root for
The way the story progresses from prep to being in the Dungeon is great! I am loving the world the author has put together and am eagerly awaiting the next one.
Stellar work once again from Craig Kobayashi! Lots of action and adventure, leveling and dungeon delving, monsters and magic. Looking forward to the next one!
Honestly the best part of this book and series is the pacing. Enough of the day to day to enjoy but it won’t big you down to have to read 7 weeks worth of story
