Fueled by dark chocolate and even darker coffee, USA Today bestselling author Jane Henry writes what she loves to read – character-driven, unputdownable romance featuring dominant alpha males and the powerful heroines who bring them to their knees. She’s believed in the power of love and romance since Belle won over the beast, and finally decided to write love stories of her own.
Its been awhile since i read these two authors together and it was okay steamy with alot of punishments.
Now at first I was annoyed with Mia she was your semi spoiled mafia princess but then again girl was always locked up and wanted freedom to explore. And as young adults they have done drinking and smoking. So it wasnt extreme in my eyes.. but that isn't how Enzo wanted Mia to explore, he was a grouchy pinning bodyguard. Who punished Mia for those reason and get better education. So I didnt totally hate the idea. But girl spent half of the book over his knee.. which was meh. I wanted their relationship to grow more from that.
Punishment then push away punishment push away.. you get my point.. Enzo did annoy me with the push and pull.. i was happy Mia push away at one point because guy couldn't make up his mind. I swear but would get jealous when others would look at Mia. Can't have it both ways my dude.
Low angst, slight ow drama (neighbor split second nothinf happened), no cheating, Drama, slight secondary character, sexy times, virgin gal no manwhore

3.5 Stars This one was not as interesting as the stories I’m used to by Jane Henry. (I’ve never read any stories by the other author.) or maybe I’m just not into the whole teacher/student aspect even though this is actually a mafia darkish romance story.
Dirty Look is the first book in the Dark Desires series. Enzo has been tasked with watching over the mafia princess, Mia, as she attends college classes in Boston. He won’t let her get away with any form of disobedience, but also can’t help but feel attracted to her. When Mia also attracts someone else’s attention, will Enzo keep his princess safe?
I don’t know if I just wasn’t in the mood for a mafia romance (gasp!) or if I was expecting something different, but I just could not get into this book. I couldn’t connect to the characters and I felt like there were a few discrepancies within the plot. Mia, in my opinion, was just a spoiled brat. I did not like her at all. She wanted to break away from her family and be free, yet she had constant attitude and had no problem using her daddy’s money and influence. She seemed really manipulative, but never had the upper hand in her relationships. Enzo was on bodyguard duty due to some mishap, so he’s really loyal, honor and duty bound, and super strict. He seemed so torn on what to do, especially when it came to his attraction to Mia. Was there tension and attraction between the two main characters? Yes, but I think my biggest disappointment with them was that there was no character growth. Both Mia and Enzo just fell flat for me. I feel like I expected so much more from these dynamite authors and I was excited for a new mafia series to develop, but I struggled with this book. Maybe it will be your cup of tea, but it was not mine.
I'm giving this a 3.5. I love anything that either of these authors write, but this felt a little too formulaic and predictable.
I liked Mia and admire her wanting to be more independent and separate herself from her family and I understand her going a little off the rails when she could, but I think that she was a little naive. She's been protected her whole life, so that makes sense to me.
I'm not entirely sure that I liked Enzo as much. I think that he was a little blinded sometimes.
A couple of my favorite authors getting together to write again is always a welcome surprise. Dirty Look is a mafia read that brings an age-gap theme to it also. I enjoyed this story between Mia and Enzo. Mia is a young girl just trying to get away from the family business, but her father wants her safe so he sends Enzo to watch over her. These two have never had any contact before this time. So the chemistry and back and forth are all unique to each other. I enjoyed Mia being so strong when she needed to be and soft with Enzo when the time was right. Enzo knew what was needed for her just when the time was right.
Again I am excited to see these two authors writing together. I hope to see more.
This book started out on a strong note for me – a bossy, dominant bodyguard and the spoiled Mafia princess he’s meant to watch over from a distance. I enjoyed the early interactions between Enzo and Mia. She stood her ground when he went alpha-male protector on her until her back-talk resulted in some discipline in the form of spanking. From there the story seemed to change direction as Mia became submissive but still willful and Enzo waffled (a bit too much) between his personal desire for her, and his professional role. I had a hard time accepting their insta-love given the huge difference in their ages. I liked the interactions with the secondary characters and the plot held a few surprises that I hadn’t anticipated. It’s a quick read with some drama, anguish, danger, violence and quite a bit of discipline through spanking, and belting along with some steamy encounters.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I could not put this book down. I love Jane Henry and now I am going to find any books by Loki Renard. I could not put this book down and was not disappointed. It was hot and the story was great. Enzo and Mia I couldn’t help but root for him. I can’t wait to start reading anything else from these two authors.

Dirty Look by Jane Henry and Loki Renard is a standalone age-gap mafia romance.
This is a fast faced story about bodyguard Enzo instantly falling for his charge Mia. I really enjoyed getting Eno and Mia's points of views throughout the book. It really brings the story to life.
I look forward to reading more of Jane and Loki's books in the future.
I would recommend this book if you love age-gap romances, forbidden romance, taboo romance, or mafia romances.
I love these two authors individually but when they have a collaboration it just blew me away!! Enzo is 100% alpha, dominant, a protector , loyal and a made man in the mafia. Mia is a mafia princess and a daddy‘s girl who is independent, spoiled and a bit of a brat. Enzo is tasked to keep Mia safe, but lines are blurred and are crossed. How far will he go to keep Mia safe?
This book grabbed me from the beginning and kept my attention. Gorgeous Enzo is tasked personally to babysit and protect the beautiful Mia. What could possibly go wrong? So good. Each page will have you wanting more.
It has been some time since these two authors co-write a story together, with Criminal and Hard Time. I will admit I enjoyed both of them---and this will not be an easy review to write because this story was a huge letdown. It is extremely hard to write a less than glowing review, but it is even more unfair not to be honest. I give this entire story a 3 to 3.25 stars.
I felt it was a cookie-cutter mafia tale, cliché, and so much of the story felt like it was on repeat with minimal actual story. I can’t say I liked a single one of the characters. Mia is a spoiled brat who knows she is Daddy’s Little Mafia Princess, Enzo is to be her bodyguard, then there is Emilio and Davo.
So Mia wants to go to school in Boston, and Daddy allows it. She is set up in her apartment, is the belle of the ball with her friends; after all, she has money which seems to buy friends, and that includes drugs from Davo. Enzo is paying penance for failure in Italy to the Don, and that means secretly guarding Mia, playing a role as a professor of Criminology, along with being mafia. It won’t be long before Enzo reveals himself to Mia---and her friends.
“Discipline. Guidance. Structure. She doesn’t need any more lectures or discipline right now. She’s broken, and if I have a weakness, it’s a woman who needs rescuing.”
The story is so much, “I’m a mafia princess”---“you’re going to listen to me”---spanking scenes—“oh, I want you”---“I can’t have her” and repeat. The good, the bad, and the ugly, all rolled up in one. Then having to answer to Piero Russo and what is the deal with Emilio just barging in all the time like every place is a revolving door. Throw in Davo, an Aussie drug dealer, and a South American cartel leader.
“We both want that, sir” I repeat it for her benefit. “For her to be safe, cared for, and protected.” I groan. “The Don has spoken.”
I really wanted to like this story, but it never came to fruition. I will admit I liked that we did have a closure ending with happiness---but the journey along the way was painful to get to this point. I’m not sure if it was gaps in the story, things that just didn’t fit, like Enzo working as a professor in a college, or just the combination of everything within this story. I found myself shaking my head and rolling my eyes while reading. Will I read the next one, since I believe this is to be a series, at this point, I am unsure.

LIFE ISN’T FAIR
It has been some time since these two authors co-write a story together, with Criminal and Hard Time. I will admit I enjoyed both of them---and this will not be an easy review to write because this story was a huge letdown. It is extremely hard to write a less than glowing review, but it is even more unfair not to be honest. I guess this story just wasn't for me, or I didn't relate to the dark-humor from the authors.
I felt it was a cookie-cutter mafia tale, cliché, and so much of the story felt like it was on repeat with minimal actual story. It's a combination of older man-younger woman (professor/student), virgin, action/adventure mafia-related story.
A compelling Mafia Romance Once again, authors Jane Henry and Loki Renard have worked together to give their readers a GREAT romance in DIRTY LOOK. Weaving together into a dark Mafia romance, authors Henry and Renard tell the most titillating tale which encompasses the usual violence of the trope with the blooming love between an older made-man, Enzo, and a much younger woman, Mia, who is also the Don’s daughter and the college student he has been sent to guard. While the angst and push-pull of a growing attraction to her handsome criminal justice professor threaten to explode, Mia’s dream of earning her degree and making her life count as something good in the world may not be possible. The chemistry between Enzo and Mia will melt your Kindle, and their story will have readers chuckling, biting their lower lips with the heat, and pausing to give their hearts frantic beating time to slow before they can read on. With the action of a thriller, the suspense of mystery, and the dominance of an alpha pushed to his limits, DIRTY LOOK will entertain for hours. Mia and Enzo were well-developed, and I became invested in their future despite the length of this novella. Then watching their relationship grow as it was accelerated by circumstances and their building trust, it was easy to root for a future that would include a life spent together. This romance is for mature audiences, so those under 18 years need NOT apply. I leaped at the opportunity to voluntarily read an early copy of DIRTY LOOK and then bought a copy to place in the FAVORITES collection in my Kindle. I have to give DIRTY LOOK a 5+STAR voluntary review as this one shows how love can not only heal but can challenge lovers to be the best they can be. Get your copy of DIRTY LOOK today! 😉
Good potential, but too much consensual / non-consensual for me
Stand-alone read that is an age-gap story about a spoiled mafia princess from Italy that wants to go to school in Boston. Mia is allowed, but has plenty of bodyguards and one of her father’s top men, Enzo, that is being punished for an indiscretion as her main guard.
There are some grammatical issues and topics that could be a trigger for sensitive readers, so warnings are listed below.
I gave this 3 stars because of the dominance and the complete lack of autonomy given to Mia. It made it a difficult read for me, as most of the actions taken by Enzo towards Mia seemed almost like he was grooming her and the “discipline” bordered on assault. Too many of the consensual / non-consensual scenes, which was “justified” by the authors through chemistry.
⛔️ Contains references to, or scenes detailing, subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some, including: adult language; derogatory terms; steamy adult intimate scenes with heavy dominance, submission, restraints, spanking for punishment and pleasure, etc.; violence such as kidnapping, abduction, murder, death, torture, assault, fighting, betrayal, coercion, threats, subterfuge, mafia / cartels, drug use, drug manufacturing, drug distribution, etc.
There are very few grammatical issues primarily comprised of incorrect word choice and tense, punctuation errors, missed words and extra inserted words. I highlighted some examples and saved them on Goodreads for anyone interested. I am mentioning these for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.
The story follows Mia the maffia princess and Enzo the made-man with something to prove. Mia is going to college in Boston, wanting to experience freedom for the first time in her life. However those plans are on the brink of ruin when she realises she has been assigned an unwelcome bodyguard hellbent on taking all the fun way from her.
What I loved was the relationship between Mia and Enzo. They had an amazing connection and seemed to really fit together, Enzo being the alpha bodyguard and Mia a spoiled little princess. I’m also a fan of the whole maffia trope, and this definitely scratched that itch for me.
Now what I didn’t quite like as much was that the start of their relationship, and to some degree the book itself, is that it seemed to be missing something. It started up so abruptly, it came across a slight bit unrealistic to me. The other thing is that Enzo seems to be repenting for something that we’re never quite told about. I would have loved to have a bit more back story to him and in a more general sense.
Despite that, I still recommend this book. It’s a fun sexy read and I definitely liked it!
Mia is in Boston for college, she is finally free of her father and all his mafia men. She thinks she's going to be a bad girl, with her drinking, partying and using drugs to surround herself with superficial friends. But when she starts putting herself in danger her bodyguard, Enzo makes his presence known and starts dictating his Mia's life will be because her father wants her safe. Mia is ticked off beyond belief that her father has a guy watching her, of course what does she expect since she is a mafia princess and all. Mia thinks it she tells Enzo off, threatens to call her father and give him a Dirty Look he will back down like all the other guys did cause their afraid of her father. What Mia doesn't seem to understand is that Enzo doesn't take her threats lightly and back down. Oh no he puts her over his knee and gives her the spanking she deserves and then proceeds to tell her exactly how things will go if she doesn't obey him. They are both insanely attracted to each other but will Mia give in to Enzo's discipline and do as he says? This is a great read and I highly recommend it!
Mia is a mafia princess from Italy, currently attending Boston College. She is tired of being constantly watched and protected and treated as nobility. She wants to begin a fresh, unencumbered, new life in the United States. Unfortunately for Mia, her father has assigned Enzo to be her bodyguard and a professor of Criminal Justice at her university.
Mia is filled with excitement and enthusiasm to be finally allowed an unhindered, normal undergraduate existence. Will she choose wisely? If she decides to make some questionable decisions, will she discover she actually has a bodyguard watching out for her?
For me, this is a thrilling, exciting, extremely captivating story of a young woman, who learns very quickly that danger is everywhere, especially for a formerly well-protected daddy’s girl. Enzo is the guardian who originally intends to keep his distance. Circumstances prevent his watching from afar, and Mia discovers he is a deliciously, dangerous, extremely stern alpha bodyguard.
I highly recommend this fascinating story written by two excellent authors.
Dirty look is a hot collaboration between 2 of the hottest contemporary romance writers in the business, Jane Henry and Loki Renard. Set in my hometown of Boston, it’s a mafia romance and an age/ sort of teacher:student romance. It’s got lots of steamy scenes between college student and mafioso daughter Mia, and the bosses right hand man, Enzo.
Enzo is assigned to watch over the boss’s daughter Mia to atone for his mistakes. He’s set up in the apartment next to hers so he can guard her at a distance, he’s also her Criminology professor. He vows to keep his distance from the woman he wants, but when a man shows up in her apartment and with recreational drugs, he makes himself known. He also shows her what happens to bad little girls. But they end up with bigger problems on their hands when someone wants Mia.
This was a fantastic read and this writing duo does not disappoint. I’m just a huge fan, and this book was just a joy to read!
These talented authors are uncompromising in their depictation of just how complicated the relationship is between Mia and Enzo.Dirty Look is just that, full of dirty looks and forbidden desires.
Enzo Caprio has been given the unenviable job of guarding Mia Russo.Mia is the very spoiled daughter of Mafia boss,Piero Russo. Is living a normal life and attending college in Boston destined to be only a dream for Mia. Enzo has had more first hand experience of criminal law than your average college Professor.Mia is determined to make his job as difficult as possible, but Enzo is just as determined to punish her for her silly, bratty, dangerous behavior.Has she escaped the control one man, just to be under the control of another much stricter man.
She needed discipline. She needed guidance. She needed structure.Enzo did not waste time stamping his views on her ,and uncovering the good girl hidden from the world.
I found this story more grey than dark.Enzo was conflicted. His feelings for Mia were powerful, but did his lolayty to her father override his very real desire for Mia despite the risks involved.Mia was very childish at times, but she had not lived the life of a normal 18 year old. She was well aware of the Mafia world she came from.Enzo was quick to brand his style of of punishment on Mia.His protective instincts to nurture her slowly took over his need to punish her.I would have liked to know what misdeed Enzo had committed that saw him making penance to to Mia's father. He was commanding and oh so domineering in a delightful way.Mia was an interesting character behind her bratty exterior. She fought hard for her independence but yearnred for Enzo to take control.
What a sinfully, twisted romance filled with sexual tension and passion. It started out strong and the pace continued throughout the book.In it's own way, this book was about family values and what makes a strong relationship.
Fiery Mafia Princess + Bossy Alpha Bodyguard = A Hot Read
Dirty Look is a Dark Mafia Romance. This is an incredible story by Jane Henry and Loki Renard. The story is a younger woman/older man romance. Mia is a mafia princess, who has gone away to college. Enzo works for Mia’s father. He is a made man. Enzo has messed up and is sent to watch over Mia/be her bodyguard. Enzo and Mia’s chemistry is very hot. Enzo tries to fight the pull that he feels for Mia so he can do his job. Mia is not making Enzo’s job easy. I love Enzo and Mia’s characters. Dirty Look has intriguing characters, is well written, a bossy alpha, a sassy heroine, suspense, with great flow. I enjoyed Dark Look and look forward to more books by this author duo. I highly recommend this book.
Mia decides to go to school in the states she wants the freedom that she hasn't really gotten. She's spoiled and she knows it but she wants more. She's a wild child and she's about to go full on. Until someone crashes into her door and she realized no matter the freedom she thought she had she was wrong. Her bodyguard is not someone she expected and she doesn't know what to do with it. But then again he's about to teach her a lesson like no other. Her life is in danger and it's up to him to try to save her before it's to late. Will the bodyguard die to save her? I loved loved loved this story and how it flowed from one thing to another.
Oh wow.. I do love it when these two authors collaborate a plot together you know it is going to be a hot steamy read...with a twist.. Enzo is an alpha male for the mafioso working undercover to look after Mia his boss’s spoilt daughter as she goes to college but being the typical student Mia is into all sorts of trouble and you know Enzo’s palm is twitching... With drama, danger and spankings added with a bit of light hearted humour by the secondary characters and with a surprising twist def made this book hard to put down
Mia just wants to let loose in college, and that means being a whole continent away from her mafia family. Enzo screwed up, so his punishment is to protect Mia without interfering. But a situation causes Mia to end up in Enzo's lap....and so begins their journey.
Mia is a little destructive but weren't we all at her age. And Enzo, oh he's delicious! He is just the perfect mix of tough mafia mixed with caring gentleman.
Another fantastic collaboration between Jane Henry and Loki Renard.
I haven't read a lot of double author books but I thought this story wasn't bad. Mia was a little annoying being the spoiled brat but you kind of felt for her, always being locked up and not being able to do what she wanted. You kind of understood why and how she was spoiled. Enzo had that push and pull act when it came to Mia. There was a lot of punishment between them. I was expecting a good amount of drama being as it was a mafia type but there really wasn't. It definitely had the slow burn. I really enjoy Jane Henry so I'll continue to read the series.
I enjoyed reading this book. It's very well written and easy to read. All the characters are real and well done. There is some violence but this is a dark series so it's expected. Mia wants her freedom, she is young. Enzo is hard, hot and full of duty. There are plenty of steamy sexy scenes and some disciplinary spankings. I love Ms Henry and this collaboration with Ms Renard is hopefully the start of a brilliant new series. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and I very highly recommend it. This is a hot, naughty and very enjoyable story.
Enzo is a made man in the calabrian mafia when he sent in disgrace to be the Don's daughter , Mia's bodyguard. Unbeknown to Mia, Enzo is keeping tabs on her every move, until one day she has a friend in her apartment trying to make a deal. Enzo barges in and breaks cover and gives her a taste of what a punishment might be. He is constantly battling his mission and his personal needs, because Mia is a temptress and might be his achilles heel. Her brattiness and the sexual tension between these two characters makes this short read story a page turner for me. I volunteered to review this arc.
I liked this book. The collaboration between Jane and Loki is great. The book has the bad, the ugly and throw in good and it makes great a taboo story. It is a mafia story so you have the good (?) guys and the bad guys (real bad guys); guy meets boss’s daughter and all hell breaks loose and a happy ending. The book is well written with these authors penning this story.
Mia is a mafia princess who just wants to get away from the strict eyes of her family. Enzo is one of Mia dads men. Mia has went to the USA to go to college and Enzo is being sent to watch over her. Enzo is attracted to her but her being who she is he knows to stay away. But what will happen if they cross the line? What will happen when danger shows up for Mia? What will happen people find out they are together? Will there be a HEA?
