Pete and his friends are entering the field day competition. Pete really wants to win, but do they have what it takes to pull off the victory?
A fun little field day adventure with Pete and friends. I like that Pete and his friends don't win everything, and that the ending wasn't entirely predictable. Pete is a pretty good sport, and some of the failures are a little funny. Hand this to Pete fans, or read it to get kids hyped for a field day.
A great story when Pete decides he wants to win first place this year at field day events. He keeps trying everything to make his team push harder and go faster. He never gets completely discouraged but a reader can sense he is quite frustrated with the situation. He continues to work hard throughout the story. Kids will love this story especially if they are already Pete fans. Highly recommended for Grades K-2.
I read this to Julianna and she laughing because she gives it a 1.. only because Pete's team did not win although they were tied... she is competitive already lol. She likes to win when she plays a game with me. I give it a 4. Cute story of pete the cat and characters & I liked story line about field day as Julianna has not done field day yet.

My little brothers loved this series when they were little and learning to read so naturally I had to give it a try! It was so cute and simple for an early independent reader, I might have to buy the whole series for my future classroom. I think Tom’s goofiness throughout this book is what engages the young readers and makes the book such a fun read.
A good addition to the Pete the Cat series... Most students can relate to field day, like the characters in the series, and at least Pete has to share in the winning (realistic, we can't all win everything)! Two thumbs up!
Gentle, easy reader tells the story of Pete's field day with his friends, and the concept of relay races and good sportsmanship. It's a simple story, but more engaging than many on the beginning readers' shelf for this age group.
It was rough at the start because he kept losing the field day games. But at the end he was winning the field day games. And it was a tie and they both got medals.

It is Field Day and Pete the Cat is excited. He wants to win first place with his team. They have to complete several competitions to try to win a medal. What an exciting day they have!
This book by Kimberly Dean encompasses two genres including fiction and children's picture book. The main plot of the book includes Pete the Cat competing in "field day." He is trying to get first place because he wasn't able to do so the field day prior. In order to possibly get 1st place he has to work as one with his teammates, especially in the 3-legged walk. He also has to learn how to give it his all and not give up even when he might be losing. The main character in this story is Pete, we are given his narrative of the story. Throughout the book he starts out very excited about the field day but after the first 2 challenges he seems to be losing hope. This story is written in the 3rd person perspective. The field day is set in a grassy field and it adds a sense of joy and playfulness throughout the book. What I like about the book is that in the end Pete's team doesn't lose but they win in a tie along with the other team. This taught Pete a lesson about sharing because he had to share his victory with the other team. This book made me feel very competitive and joyous especially when they won the tug of war challenge. I recommend this book to young kids in elementary school because it teaches a good lesson. Overall I rate this book a six out of 10 because I feel that I would have enjoyed it more if I was younger.
