Susan Chapman is originally from Pennsylvania and lived most of her life outside of Philadelphia in a rural area of Amish country. She grew up on a farm with many different animals and a huge vegetable garden. Susan is one of eight children. Susan attended colleges in Pennsylvania. She has a BA in Economics from Wilkes University, an Associates Degree in Business Administration from the Business School of Widener University, and a Certification in Home Design from Philadelphia University.
After college, Susan met and married her husband, the late Michael Douglas Chapman. Susan and Michael have two beautiful children together, Michael Jr. and Avery Alanna.
Susan now resides in Naples, Florida with her two fur babies, Sugar and Cookie.
I read this book with my daughter tonight and she really enjoyed it.
She liked that the Turtle was rescued and they could get him the help he needed, but she did ask what had happened and I told her it was likely that he had been hit by a boat and that is why he needed help.
She was also concerned about the rubbish in the sea, we do our bit to recycle and she is very keen to help where she can as she can see the benefit of this. I would recommend this book to other parents to read with their children too and to show how they can help protect the environment to save it for younger generations.,
It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!
My cousin just had her second baby and I want to get her some more books. 2 years ago when she had her daughter, I sent her an adorable animal backpack for young children filled with classic books. She loved it. So now I am looking for some books a little different. She is a math teacher, loves science, was raised on a farm with many different animals, and cares deeply for the environment. Her husband shares these values.
I got an Audio copy of Two if by Sea, but am really glad to see it is a book as well. I think I will order this one.
The story is terrific. Grumpy the Iguana and The Green Parrot go out on a Sailboat. They are going Fishing. This is a wonderful way to read to children about saving the environment. At first they think they have caught a big Red Fish, but realize it is a balloon. That is a good thing though, since balloons are bad for Fish and can kill them.
Next, they find a Sea Turtle with a broken shell. Luckily, Grumpy knows all about an animal hospital that can save the Turtle. I found out places like this really do exist. So, Grumpy and The Green Parrot don’t catch any fish, but save a creatures life.
So, endearing and adorable characters. Funny, too. I gave it 4* because I had the audio version and would love to have seen the pictures. I liked listening for myself, but would much rather have the book. It was a good way to find out about the book and see if I liked the story. I did.
Thank you NetGalley, Susan Chapman, and IBPA for an Audio copy. I really appreciate it.
This is receiving a 2 star review because it allowed me to talk to my 6yo about the environment and the role humans can play in destroying it and/or helping it. The flow was very off, which I thought was just me until he said it made no sense and he started rewriting it based on what he and I had talked about. The formatting is horrendous and I thought at first it was because we were reading it on my phone via the app, but it was the same on both of our Kindle. The pictures did not format correctly so you may have a sliver of a photo for 4-6 pages before showed a different picture and the written story. Formatting definitely needs some work.
This is my third book in the Grumpy-series, and I was luck enough to enjoy the audio version. Narrator Trevor Goble as the Green Parrot is absolutely hilarious!
The story however is a bit flat and at some parts did not make sense to me. (Why was the iguana born in a turtle hospital??) Having an adventurous day with your best friend, helping others, making new friends and looking the sunny side of things even if they don't turn out as you had expected - these all are great and positive messages you can take with you though.
Thanks NetGalley, Susan Chapman and IBPA for this Advance Reading Copy.
This was terrible. I appreciated that the author was trying to highlight the negative impacts humans have on sea life (plastic pollution, boating accidents) but the story was stiff and awkward. It didn't flow, it lacked humour and it was terribly boring and un-engaging. There are so many stories that bring this topic to life for children and that's why I'd give this one a pass.
I received a Kindle copy of this book via a Goodreads giveaway. It would be a very cute book, though I do question some of the vocabulary choices (or many of them), except that something very wrong happened during the formatting. It looks like each page was split in 4, not 2, and then put into sequence, which doesn't make an e-book readable and is especially hard on pictures. I'm afraid my little one won't be seeing this book as it is.
I was granted complimentary access to Two if by Sea by Susan Marie Chapman through the publisher, Canoe Tree Press, in exchange for an honest review via NetGalley.
This story tries to teach kids about the dangers of polluting the world's oceans as the iguana and parrot characters go fishing only to find that the beautiful red fish they caught it actually a balloon, and all of the trash in the ocean is killing the fish. It's an important story, and the illustrations are beautifully colourful. This is now the second picture book by this author I'm reviewing tonight, and I must say the watercolour techniques used in this one far surpass the other I reviewed.
As with the other title I reviewed, I found the text itself very difficult to read. The font is very stylized, which is not friendly to readers with limited vision or certain learning disabilities, it constantly changes size and colour, and frequently contrasts poorly with the images or blank whiteness underneath it. The story itself, while it has an important message, is drawn out and boring.
A Review of Two If By Sea by Susan Marie Chapman, illustrated by Natalia Loseva
I thoroughly enjoyed Two If By Sea, the latest adventure in the Grumpy the Iguana series by Susan Marie Chapman. As Grumpy goes off on a fishing trip with his best friend Green Parrot, neither knew what the outcome of their voyage would be. In the course of their day trip off Miami Beach, they didn’t catch any fish however, due to their quick thinking, they saved some aquatic lives.
Ms. Chapman has found her voice as an environmental advocate among children’s writers. Her stories are interesting for children who are being introduced to topics such as ocean pollution in a manner to which all of us can relate. I especially appreciated the featuring of the Turtle Hospital of Marathon, Florida one of many independent wildlife rescue hospitals funded largely by donations and grants. It is so valuable to teach children about the environment and ways that they can help protect it. Well done, Ms. Chapman!
In Two if by Sea we are back with Grumpy the Iguana and the Green Parrot for their next adventure. They are headed fishing but first are met again with pollution in the ocean. By the time they figure out this is a balloon and not a fish they have veered off course and found themselves lost. To the rescue is a giant sea turtle who can guide them home, but he has a man-made problem of his own that he needs help with. With a shout out to the turtle rehab facilities in the Florida Keys the new friends make a plan to get home and get the sea turtle the help he needs. While the environmental issues are more subtle in this one (compared to Mr Squirrel finds a Treasure) they are still present and great discussion starters with your children. They may not be as easy for the kids to pick up on depending on their ages without the parent-led discussion however.
Honestly I almost gave this book a 1 star rating. It’s probably more like a 1.5, but I round up.
The story itself wasn’t too bad. It had some good lessons in it about how to take care of sea life and nature, but the formatting on kindle was terrible. I get that formatting ebooks is hard. I’ve struggled with it too, so I try not to point it out, but this was just too hard to focus on. I think I need to see this one in print and it might change my opinion.
On my kindle the pictures were chopped up weird. I’d get a sliver of a picture here, then an empty page, then another part of the picture...it felt like I had to mentally put together a jigsaw puzzle.
I received a free copy of this book from Goodread for my honest opinion, so any opinions express our my own.
This is probably a really great children’s book; however, the electronic copy I received had the pages all scrambled so I was unable to see the illustrations. I was able to read the book, but young children have no interest in a book with no pictures. I did read the story myself and it had a wonderful message about meeting new friends and pollution in the sea. I am sure I would have given the book at least Four stars, if I would have been able to see the illustrations and been able to gauge the children’s response to the book.
This is a cute story about Grumpy the Iguana and his friend Green Parrot, who go fishing and catch a red balloon. They are glad they found it, since they know it is not good for it to be in the sea incase it hurts the sea creatures.. They find a new friend who helps them to get back home after they get lost. This is a good book with bright, colourful images and fun characters, which my daughter and I enjoyed.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is my third listening to "Grumpy", like the other stories, this is about saved nature and animals.
Another day, another adventure with Grumpy and green parrot. They rent a boat for a day for fishing. They didn't catch a fish but did gain a new friend.
I enjoy these very short stories of Grumpy. They are full of friendships, happy animals that care for each other. And of course, The narrator is great, too.
Thanks to Netgalley, I have given an honest review of Two if by Sea (a Grumpy the Iguana and Green Parrot Adventure Book 3) by Susan Chapman, Narrated by Trevor Gobel.

I listened to this audio version of this book with my 5 year old grandson. He thoroughly enjoyed the book and I really appreciated the environmental themes I have found in Susan Chapman's stories. We are fans!
Grumpy the Iguana and his friend Green Parrot go off on a fishing trip. Their adventure does not go as originally planned but they do make a difference by saving some aquatic lives.
I try no to complain if I win something for free, and I won this book for my granddaughter. But when I opened it to pre read it, the pictures are all jumbled, can't see some, and the words are on different pages. Only 2 pages were correct, with the picture and sentence(s) below. I would like to see this resolved because I know she would love this book, and I'm a bit disappointed.
I received this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I won this ebook in a Goodreads Giveaway.
I love Grumpy the Iguana and his friends. In this one, Grumpy and his friend Green Parrot go fishing and only catch a red balloon. They realize that it is bad for the ocean, so they are glad they catch it. They also get lost at sea and find a new friend to guide them home, who they end up helping in return.
I like the idea of two friends, Grumpy and Green, having a day relaxing together and even when things don’t go as we hope they find a way to make the best of it. I like they that teach caring and helping others, and helping the environment. Sadly, on the flip side, I was given a audiobook to review thanks to NetGalley and IBPA. The audiobook loses some of it imagination for little ones without the pictures to attach. Last note, I don’t understand why Grumpy was born in a turtle habitat?
I won this book via Goodreads' FirstReads. The text was very well written and the art style was fun. However, the formatting for the art in the Kindle edition was terrible, at least in the app. Pictures were spread across multiple pages in random pieces and order, and there were a lot of blank pages.
This is a nice short book about the friendship between an iguana and a parrot. It is intended for the small child and is a story that they should enjoy. The illustrations are cute and add to the read. I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway for this honest review.
This book is a lovely story of friendship and kindness while also advising on protecting the environment and our seas. It is well written and the illustrations are lovely.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.
I received a Kindle copy from a Goodreads giveaway. My kids lost interest maybe halfway through. I'm thinking it had more to do with improper formatting than the story itself but they have no interest in finding out how the story ends.
كتاب أطفال عظمة. اتنين صحاب Grumpy The Iguana and The Green Parrot قرروا يصطادوا عشان ربنا يفاجئهم بحاجة مختلفة تمامًا عن الصيد المعنى الحرفي لمتعة المتاهة في الرحلة والصُحبة مش الوصول جمييييلة أوي
If you could read the print, Kindle, you couldn't see the pictures and if you could see the pictures you couldn't read the print - no matter what size you chose to try and read it at. Disappointing because it looked lie it would be a cute story that all of us kids would enjoy!
Gives out an important message and provides you with a scope for having a conversation with your child about it. I was a bit aprehensive at the beginning but the ending got me. :)
When you can't see the pictures or words on the page it really makes it hard to review a book that looks to be enjoyable. I don't have this issue with other children books. I also tried to make some font size changes but it made it worse. I am going to leave my rating blank. If this gets resolved I will update my rating for this book
