This is a children's book. I found this book to much for children, but it is not enough for middle grade. I just think it was not written good for a child. I won a kindle edition of this book from a goodreads giveaway, and this is 100% my own opinion about the book.
I received this kindle book as a part of a #GoodReadsGiveaway.
While this children's story has some potential and Lan Nguyen's artwork is appealing, the over work falls short as a cohesive and rich whole. As another GoodReads reviewer has mentioned, I was also surprised to find a character smoking. This wasn't necessary for either plot or character development. Thanks to the author for the opportunity to read this work and congratulations on bravely putting her personal writing before the world.
This is a sweet little story about a blob created by a mishap in a science lab. It's a quick read, good for young readers. My 1st grader and I sat together reading it and she seemed to enjoy most of it. I don't consider myself a hover parent. I tend not to hid things from my children and the world we live in but with that being said, I didn't particularly like the tiny part with a pig that picks up hay and starts smoking it like a cigarette. My 1st grader just seemed to zoom past it, not know why the pig was doing it. She liked it for the most part and the cute illustrations.
I won an ecopy of T. Melissa Madian's It Came From the Science Lab!!!. Overall it's a cute story with vibrant illustrations. For me the major downside is the pig smoking. The book is geared to children; so, I don't feel that is appropriate for the intended audience, and it wasn't necessary to the story either. This may seem a minor issue to others but for me it's a big one. Without that scene I would have given the book 4 stars.

I have twin 7yo kiddos. They enjoyed Bartholomew Blob's story and have even started using his name when playing on their own (a huge compliment from them). The illustrations are strong and tell a sweet story of inclusion, friendship, and the need to belong. I recommend pausing to discuss the lesson after reading the story since it's easy for kids this age to miss the nuggets.
Short cute story with vivid and colorful illustrations. Finding friends is important and in this story an new creature heads into the big world to find some. Will Bartholemew find friends and a home?
I was given an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review. The story was very cute, it meandered a little bit for a toddler attention span, but the illustrations were great and it had a nice message.
An interesting tale telling how even the most unusual creatures can be loved and appreciated. It’s ok to be different because there is a place for you! Nicely illustrated!
Well I'm the author, so I thought it was FABULOUS! :) Quite often tales of science experiments gone wrong result in terrible monsters or disasters (hello Frankenstein's Monster!) I wanted to tell the story of a science experiment gone RIGHT... one that creates a curious, innocent new being. I hope you enjoy reading the book as much as I enjoyed writing it!
I won the Kindle edition through Goodreads. I was disappointed that it didn’t actually involve any science (takes place on a farm). Like other reviewers, I was also taken aback by the hay-smoking pig who speaks like a beatnik. I did like the cute illustrations and how the blob main character would change color based on his mood.
