"If I offered you some advice, would you take it?"
Sloane Williams is shocked to hear those words coming out of her boss's mouth. She's been wanting to move up the ladder at Billingsley-Davis for years but as the only black woman on her team, she's pretty out of the loop when it comes to office goings-on. And while her boss, Keith McNair, is skinfolk, he doesn't seem to know she's alive, personally or professionally. So why was he taking an interest in her now? What she doesn't know is that Mr. McNair has had her on his mind for quite a while. She's smart, gorgeous, sexy...and his subordinate. So he made himself ignore her, and was doing a pretty good job of it.
Until now. Opportunity is knocking and he's ready to bust through the door.
***This is Book 1 in a new series of erotic standalones set at the regional headquarters of an international corporation. The employees work hard but they play hard, too. Sometimes even on the clock.
After reading a few other Shae Sanders books, I thought I would give this series a try. The entire series takes place at a company in Texas. This first installment focuses on Keith and Sloane. Keith is Sloane’s boss and while she finds him attractive, she thinks that he's a little white-washed. It isn't until a day spent after work that Sloane begins to get to know the real Keith. I don't want to say too much about the character development of this book because it's part of the allure of the reading experience. Just know that my jaw hit the floor a couple of times while reading this. One thing that I didn't really enjoy too much about this was the references to the Me Too movement. The characters talk about it in a flighty/light way to excuse them engaging in a sexual relationship and I didn't enjoy that. There are a couple of other reviewers who feel the same. Other than that, it's a pretty solid read. It's extremely steamy with all of sex scenes taking place at the office. In a lot of ways, it is a great exploration of the experience of Black people in corporate America. It doesn't necessarily dive into the specifics; however, how the characters interact or don't interact is heavily based on these experiences. I don't know if I completely bought into the romance between Sloane and Keith. It felt more lust than love, but I enjoyed this first installment enough to continue with the series.
It was cute. I was stressed that they were going to get caught having a relationship and it would cause a problem with their job, but that never happened. 😆 Good workplace novella.
When I finished Take It, I was ready to pack my bags, move to Summerville, and apply for a position at Billingsley-Davis. I enjoyed every last second of this book. It was full of comedy and it sheds a light on what it’s like to be black in corporate America. The office romance aspect is what interested me but, the sex scenes were definitely a bonus. Whew chile! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Keith and Sloan were the couple you aspire to be professionally and personally. They had their shyt together and was getting it in at the office every chance they got while climbing the corporate ladder. Take It was short, hot, and nasty. If you’re looking for a nasty workplace romance that will have you clutching your invisible pearls, this is the book for you.
This is a cute work place sexy short….Sloan worked for Keith and were both attracted to each other….Keith had to devise a plan to get to Sloan the right way.
I am in one of the biggest reading slumps and this book right here just drug me up by my edges from the depths of the slump.
This was the best seggs I’ve ever read! 🥵 I’m still having flashbacks of these scenes!! This 80 page novella packs a scorching punch!!! It’s boiling hot, hotter than humid Htx at 7am!
Workplace HOT AS FIRE ROMANCE! Baby they had that office so lit, I’d be speeding 100 mph to get to work on a Monday morning. Sheesh!
But, I must say there was some damn good work jewels given as well:
“… You take offense to a helping hand boosting you up, but you don’t even see the invisible hands that have been pushing you down your entire career.” 😮💨
Listen to me, if you’re a BOF like me then this read is a MUST!! Somebody douse me with a gallon of water 💦 It’s more than spicey, it’s that one deadly pepper chip hot and after reading this, I’m not ready to cool off just yet! The high quality, well crafted, smut scenes that are worth recreating alone earns this a blazing 5 ⭐️. Definitely reading this to my papa bear on his new desk 😜
Whew shitttttt 🥵🫦🫦🫦🫦🫦🫦🫦🫦
When I tell you I’m about to read through all of Shae’s backlist!!!!!! 📝
I enjoyed every last second of this book. I was looking for a nasty workplace romance and babyyyy this hit the nasty mark and then some. Sloan Williams has a thing for her boss Keith McNair. With his sweater vests and ties, he is one of the only Black Executives in the company and he is SEXY! Keith McNair played his role well by carrying himself in a way that ensured his success, but it wasn't who he really was. Everything changed the night Sloane volunteered to work after hours. She was hit by a Mack truck that is the REAL Keith McNair. Listen, it wasn't just Sloane that was shooketh!! Keith did a complete 180 and came out of the blocks with his swagger on a hundred -trillion. Square Mr. McNair was long gone and THEE ALMIGHTY Keith came busting through the gates. It was like watching an episode of Family Matters when Steve turned into Stefan and made you swoon. His voice, attitude and aura completely changed and turned Sloane into complete and utter mess. This is a very short story but IT IS HOT! Keith and Sloane had chemistry that burned up the office! They are NASTY and I loved it. This book offered so much more than hotness. I liked that it touched on issues faced by Black people in a Corporate setting. The author addressed code switching, racism, lack of diversity and the process it takes for Black people to become successful in a corporate environment. I literally ate this book up! This is my first time reading this authors work and I am definitely going back for more.
A quick, fun romance with relatable characters that is perfect for when you are in a reading slump. Shae Sanders uses Take It to talk about more serious issues, like the internalised racism especially in the business world, as well which I rather enjoyed. Some other parts I liked less, however, for example rubbed me a couple of scenes in the end the wrong way and I am no fan of the Me Too jokes. The smut, on the other hand, was written well.
Loved it. The whole sneaking around the office thing...loved it. Sloane was hilarious. She could take it as well as she could dish it out. And Keith.... the moment that "corporate exterior" was shedded, it was over. I only wished this was full length, but I loved it.
I’m not a fan of this ending! :( I’m happy for their growth but ugh HFN isn’t enough lol. Cash and Dre were a vibe and I’m so happy that them being together wasn’t time wasted but was for something bigger. I really enjoyed this short and can’t wait to read a follow up on this couple down the road! Definitely recommend this book!
Take it ( On the Clock book 1) by Shae Sanders is about Sloane Williams and her boss Keith McNair. This is a workplace romance. This is a novella, so it’s shorter in length but it sure does pack a punch! This blurb from the book “Corniest Black man this side of Hawaiian shirt era Russell Wilson” caught my attention! Keith is the ultimate code switcher, Sloane certainly learned the difference between Keith & Mr. McNair. In between navigating the corporate world, working twice as hard, vying for a promotion Sloane & Keith still find a way to bring the heat 🥵 I’m excited to read more from this series!
A great quick read that is entertaining and gives you a glimpse of what its like to be melanated and wanting to advance in corporate. Keith made his place asap executive and wanted to help Sloan reach her potential i the company even though he was extremely attracted to her.
Sloane is fantasizing about her boss, but she thinks he’s corny and “Carlton Banksesque” So when he calls her into his office, she’s running through her mind what she could have done wrong. Someone has complained about the way she dresses. It’s not sexy, it’s very professional, so who’s out to get her? Keith McNair assures her with confidence that she looks absolutely professional and even gives her a heads up about a promotion. Sloane is shocked. He hasn’t looked at her more than he’s had to, so why is he helping her? What she doesn’t know is that Keith has been struggling with not looking at her. All bets are off when they have to stay late because of someone else’s ineptitude, and when Angie leaves just Sloane and Keith together, the real Keith comes out, or should I say- Mr. McNair if ya nasty! Sloane’s in deep now, because all those fantasies are now reality and reality is not screaming in your bosses office first thing in the morning because he’s got you hemmed up. #scandalous #sneakingfreaking #timetousethatbusinessdegree 😉
This was just such a fun read…I finished all of the books in this series over the course of a week and a half. They are fun, endearing, sexy, and thoughtful…I think this was one of my favorites.
If you’re looking for a quick read with a good amount of witty banter and spice between the main characters then this is the book for you. This also demonstrates the office romance trope nicely. Mr McNair comes off as straitlaced until Sloane finds herself working on a project with him after hours. Then the mask comes off and in come the fireworks. Although short, Shae Sanders manages to portray some of the difficulties that black people face in predominantly white corporate spaces, I really loved that in this. She also showed how black women especially have to work twice as hard even when they are more qualified than their white counterparts. What stopped me from giving this 5 stars is the fact that Keith and Shae get up to some shenanigans that could easily have thwarted Sloane’s chances at a promotion and I wish she had dealt with a tad realistically. However if this had been a longer book perhaps it would have been better dealt with. That being said I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found myself laughing out loud in places.
I really need to find Summerville, and check the openings at Billingsley-Davis, cuz this company got it going on! 😂 Sloane, having wild thoughts about her buttoned up boss, all comes to a head. Mr. McNair, the lone black executive of the company, behaved the way we all know that he had to, to succeed. But, that was not "who" he was at all. Sloane, stayed after work to assist him with a project, and finds out he is nothing like she "assumed" he was. He had straight swagger, and blew her mind! She knew Mr. McNair, but Keith, was a whole nother animal honey! Off the clock, Mr. McNair became Keith, and he was bout his business! He had seen Sloane, but had to keep up appearances and be professional, as they were the only two blacks there. They were sizzling hot! Loved them together, and really enjoyed this read! 👍👍👍
3.999/5⭐️3.5/5🌶 - This book was good yall! I forgot who posted about this book but it was good. I always love a good office romance!
- Sloane was actually that girl. Shes a corporate baddie with a funny ass personality. She didn't do too much or over react is what I should say. Then its Mr. Keith McNair🥰🥰🥰the definition of code switching lol and I respect it. He is technicallys Sloane boss but what did that stop???? Nothing ok! He was very supportive and professional a black king taking over the corporate world.
- I enjoyed it yall. Something short and sweet! I just love a good novella. Slow burns really drive me crazy and sometimes I just want something quick and steamy. That celebration spicy scene mhmmmm😝
This was a good short story and it was exactly what I needed to kick me out of a reading slump. Keith? Mr. put it down Keith. Mr. I will take you to Pound town Keith. Mr. I will show you better than I can tell you Keith. I mean it pays actually go beyond what you thought you could do. Of course this is a story we know that in real life a lot of what they did wouldn’t be right, but we’re not here for real life. We’re here to read books. If you enjoy a quick read, you enjoy a man that is Carlton, but for real the Fresh Prince if you enjoy a woman that gets out of her own way and owns her sensuality, then you will enjoy this book. Have fun reading it!
Oh Wow! That was super hottt, with all the t's at the end😏. I like that Sloane wanted a friend she could confide in, yet once Angela kind of dismissed her for that job, my eyes would've been wide open.
Mr. Keith McNair can get all the business. And that office scene, the 3rd one😉, was too hot for tv. Dang near too hot for this book😜. I like how he wanted to actually date Sloane and not just be screw buddies. He was really feeling her.
This was my first Shae Sanders book, yet it WILL NOT be my last. I'm about to finish this series and I suggest you jump on board and do the same. Highly recommend.
Oh. My. The sex scenes in this book were steamy. Not going to lie… office sex is an absolute fantasy of mine and this book catered very well to that fantasy. The light banter about the Me Too movement didn’t bother me. Honestly, that is something a man probably would say in real life. So it adds an element of realism to the book. The story also touches a little on black women and moving up the corporate ladder in as well as some of the code switching that might be necessary to get ahead as a black person in corporate America. I am glad Keith had Sloane’s back, even if there was partly a selfish reason behind it. This was a quick, steamy, fun read.
Sloane and Keith are real as well as ridiculous. It’s a novella, also it moves fast, but also gets grounded in real talk, real situations, and real responses… if by “real,” meaning “banter familiar to recognizable personalities from a real Black person’s life lived in corporate America.”
It’s also super-steamy, the characters are willing to take risks, and so is the author. Looking forward to more of this format (quickie/ steamy novellas featuring what the young folks call, BIPOC), from this author!
**Clutches my pearls** THIS WAS IT!!! Sloane thought her boss Keith, Mr. McNair if you nasty was just her boss, pretty nerdy, pretty quiet and though she thought he was sexy, she knew he never even noticed her. Cut to the night where they have to stay at work late one night and LORDDDD when Keith comes out of boss mode and lets his nerdy façade go and lets Sloane know that he indeed HAS been noticing her but was trying to keep it professional .....all I can say is never judge a book by its cover because he put it DOWN!! I'm sill thinking about some of those scenes. **fans self**
I enjoyed this story of Sloane fcking on her boss 😍 especially because she kept trying to play him because he had a permanent code switch going on. But Keith was just playing the game as an educated black man because he knew as progressive as BillsCo pretended to be, they really don't want the real Keith. Sloane wanted Keith from their first interaction, but quicky changed her tune when she realized how Carlton Banks he was. But working late one night showed a diff side of Keith, & she ain't looked back since. Keith really had her back about the other position & he wanted her to get it so he could get his woman. I can't wait to get a possible update on these two 🥰
I LOVED this book!!!! This was such a fun story! I love that Keith and Sloane had this simmering chemistry for months, because when the opportunity finally came up, whew, it was 🔥🔥🔥HOT! I have also been in corporate America my entire adult life so I could relate to a lot of the workplace stuff. Sloane and Keith were so cute together, I really enjoyed this story! Can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series!
AFTER HOURS FUN My first read by this author and I really enjoyed it. Very well written short, fun read. Although the book touched on the topic of racial inequality in the workplace I liked the chemistry between Keith and Sloane. Professional workers by day but once the shift ended they definitely got hot and freaky in the office at night. Can't wait to read what the employees of Billingsley-Davis are up to next.
Loved this! The chemistry between Sloane and Keith was fire, but what you see is NOT always what you get. That’s true for the bedroom and the boardroom. Having worked in Corporate America for over 20 years, there was so much truth to what Keith laid out. Unfortunately, like Sloane, many of us have our blinders until we are schooled either through someone helping us or the hard way. Excellent read!
Sexy, spicy and steamy quick read is exactly what I needed. This erotic novella was perfect in every way. Even though this is a quick read, the plot and characters seemed real and developed to me. I identified with Sloane and I loved the game that Keith played. I loved how he saw her and fought for her to get promoted. I am definitely moving on to the next book in this series. Shae Sanders you know what you’re doing!
