Fallen Men #6

Dead Man Walking

Rate this book
From USA Today & Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author Giana Darling comes a dark MC romance about a broken enforcer and the beautiful, innocent woman who shows him that light can exist even in the dark...

A killer. A criminal.
A psychopath.
The Irish enforcer for The Fallen Men MC is everything good girls are taught to stay away from.
Only, I found myself inexorably drawn into his dark gravitational pull. I wanted to know what it would be like to walk beside the human personification of Death and hold his hand, feel his kiss, and maybe even earn his undying love.
But Priest McKenna is older, cold as ice, and notoriously unfeeling.
So what are the odds that a dead man walking would come to life for little, insignificant me?
When a serial killer begins to target the women of Entrance, BC, and The Fallen suffers another terrible blow, Priest resolves to hunt down the killer himself.
And when the murderer sets his eyes on me?
My very own psychopath steps between me and certain death, thrusting us into an intimacy I prayed we would never recover from.

*A standalone book in The Fallen Men Series.*

Priest is definitely the darkest hero we've gotten in this series and I really enjoyed his romance with Bea. This is an opposites attract romance and I loved how we saw Bea explain her fascination with darkness and her attraction to Priest's dangerous, damaged side. Priest is such an interesting character because of his past and his desire for blood and violence. We really don't get his past until near the end, though, and that made the reveal so much more impactful. We already felt so attached to him as a character and he was finally breaking down and letting Bea into who he was as a person.

There is also a plot line with a serial killer after Bea, which was very intriguing. I will say, for a 500+ page book, this was pretty slow in both the serial killer plot and the romance. This was more character driven and focused on the slow growth and development of the romance, which isn't always my favorite. And, after just reading Inked in Lies (which is a new favorite book in 2021), I just couldn't compare this book to that. Nova was my kind of hero and I was obsessed. While I appreciated Bea and Priest's romance, I just wasn't as obsessed as I was in the previous book. I still really enjoyed the book, though, and I'm dying to learn who book 7 will be about!!

Dead Man Walking is the sixth book in The Fallen Men. Although it can be read as a stand-alone, this MC Series is an absolute must-read. Each character is complex, and the connection between them is carefully constructed with care. Priest is the Enforcer of the Fallen MC and is the "psycho" killer of the group. When he is on a mission, nothing will ever get in his way. Somehow throughout the violence and the chaos, he has found light in Bea Lafayette. Bea is the little sister of his Prez's Ole Lady. She is kind and sweet, and everything Priest is not. For years Bea has been saving herself for the opportunity to get Priest and keep him as her own. When a serial killer has Bea in his sites, Priest claims her as his, and the battle begins!

description
"You were never a bad man to me. Just my guardian monster."
Told in dual POV, Dead Man Walking is a thrilling romance with passion, suspense, and non-stop action. The dynamics between Priest and Bea are intense, and they share a bond like no other. Priest is truly broken, and how Bea offers him healing and love as he has never experienced truly made me swoon. Even the darkest and deadliest sinners deserve to be loved.
"I let him ruin me."
Overall, Dead Man Walking is another delicious delight from Giana Darling. The combination of her lyrical writing, the complex plot, and unforgettable characters makes this a must-read. Dark and twisted (you know who you are), MC Romance Fans will adore Priest and Bea. This is only my second read in The Fallen Men Series, but now that I have had another taste, I will never be able to get enough!

“Not all love stories play out in the light. Some of the best romances occur in the veil of shadows.”

I love these biker/Fallen Men romances, and Dead Man Walking was the darkest of the bunch. The others I would’t have considered much of dark romances, but this definitely was.

Bea is a good girl, the sister of LouLou, who’s married to the MC President, Zeus. She’s always been a light and has always been attracted to Priest, the darkest member of the Fallen. Priest is the enforcer of the group and a known killer. But Bea can’t seem to stay away from him. These two were opposites in so many ways, but were attracted to each other in a big way.

On top of the romance between Priest and Bea, which I had been waiting for, the main part of the story was about a serial killer on the loose. And he has his eyes set on Bea. Honestly, that part was a bit predictable for me, but still a crazy spin to the series.

I have my predictions on which Fallen couple will be next, so we’ll have to wait and see! This was a great addition to the series, but a little too dark for me personally.

I didnt hate this book but didnt like it either, i had so many problems with it especially the writing style which is detailed as fuck and repetitive. After reading welcome to the dark side which i liked, i thought giving her other books a try, starting this one cuz i was curious to know more about Priest and Bea. It was boring. Almost 500 pages, and maybe 200 pages of dialogue and other 300 are just inner POV which was again, repetitive. Ok let me start by saying what i liked. Nothing...okay i might have liked how Priest cared for Bea and put his walls down for her..other than that nothing. Okay so throughout the whole book Bea keeps saying that she has a darker side..i mean YOU DONT FUCKING NEED TO REPEAT THAT EVERY SINGLE PAGE..WE GET IT, TRUST ME WE DO, YOU SAY IT IN THE FIRST PAGE AND WE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE A DARKER SIDE, idk like was she trying to convince herself that she has a darker side or reminding us? I swear i was about to dnf this book only cuz of this thing where bea keeps saying the same thing again and again to every character and herself in different ways. I mean i cant even imagine how annoyed Priest may have been cuz she says this each time she sees him. Oh god i wanted to slap her, seriously, annoyed the fuck outta me. Then there is Priest...now this book is a suspense book and i dont know where the suspense was cuz it took me 0.1 second to guess who the killer was, so no suspense there but there was one mystery which still didnt solve....is Priest a vampire? Cuz the amount of blood he sucks from Bea each time they fuck was disgusting but also the author directly could have told us he is a “man thinking he is a vampire” and not a zombie “dead man walking” as he claims.

I thought this book was supposed to be opposite attracts but Bea literally tries to be like Priest, i mean “she has a darker side” seemed forced and then she goes doing sunshine and roses thing which confuses me more cuz like Do u have a darker side or not? Without repeating this shit again and again she could have taken sometime to make sure if she truly has a darker side or she just wants Priest to think she has a darker fucking side and if this is the reason then Priest fucking got scammed. I liked LouLou in welcome to the dark side but in this book i hated her, oh god she was more annoying than Bea like atleast Bea was strong enough to stand up for her “loveee” for Priest but loulou, seriously i mean i get it Bea is her sister and she wants to protect her but shut the fuck up dude, u aint her mother. Ugh all the characters in this book was annoying except Zeus. My head hurts now, the amount of bullshit i read gave me a headache. The details tho....and they werent fun details to read, they were stupid and unnecessary and repetitive. 80% of the innerpov was Bea saying “i have a dark side” and 20% was priest saying “i am a bad dude” literally Priest is just a wannabe bad dude, he was annoying as well, go to a fucking psychiatrist and Bea on the other hand scammed Priest by saying “i have a darker side”. Maybe she wanted to hide her plan for scamming him by repeating the same thing again and again, but we see u dude, you re annoying and stupid. The back and fourth between Bea and Priest made is so confusing, i mean cant they both just MADE A FUCKING DECISION AND STICK TO THAT! Priest keeps saying Bea is his and then she goes lovey dovey and he runs away, like STICK TO ONE FUCKING DECISION, YOU WANNA STAY WITH HER OR NOT! Oh god, this book was a shitshow.

Whats with the heroines and calling their heros angels or reapers, do they want to create an underworld shit on earth? A fucking role pay? As much as Bea keeps saying “ she has a dark side” ofc she does 🙄Priest keeps saying he is a psychopath like thanks for saying that every fucking page, we are so dumb that we didnt know that u re a psychopath and not a stupid boy. I swear all of these heros and boys, seriously highschool boys in their 30s cuz they say “i ll ruin you” and then have rough sex...rough sex is ruining? Cuz they do nothing else other than talk about ruining..when was the ruining done? The only thing got ruined was my brain cells by reading this.

I'm officially done.
Welcome to the dark Side is in my all-time favorite shelf..I don't want to hate LouLou. Sorry, Bea and Priest aren't worth it.
✨ The pace is off.
✨ Writing is cringy AF.
An example :

"My pussy was tender, silk petals crushed under the force of Priest's savagery, opening torn, by his thick unyielding erection."

Also I stopped counting after the 30th metaphor. I devolped an allergy for words like peach, fuzzy, ripe and cinnamon.
I'm probably too trashy to appreciate this book.

✨There's no relationship development.
✨There's a lot of tell and not enough show.

I'm really disappointed.

Dead Man Walking is book 6 in the Fallen Men series. It follows Bea and Priest who we have met previously in the series. These books are stated as being able to read as standalones but I personally feel to get the full picture and a better understanding of this world these books should be read in order.

Prior to this book I had read and genuinely enjoyed all of the books in the series and very much anticipated this book/couple but I will say that I am left underwhelmed by this story and even though I managed to like it well enough to finish, I also expected a lot more from this story.

This book came with an authors note in the form of a trigger warning and I will say it did deliver on that. This book was much darker, grittier and intense compared to the previous books but still maintained the same elements created in the authors MC world with heightened crime, suspense & action.

This story took me longer to get into and the pacing felt off to me as did the writing. The relationship, attraction and obsession between these two was quickly established before moving more into the thiller/suspense side of the storyline, even though I loved this couple I just had a hard time connecting to the way their story played out. It didn't feel as smooth and seamless as some of the other books and had many moments that felt repetitive with words, phrases and actions. There was also an instance very early on that to me felt glossed over and not as impactful as it should've been which had me slightly confused timeline wise, if you've read the series you might understand what I mean but to me a moment I have been waiting for felt lackluster and I'm thinking the next release will help fill in the blanks. Maybe this is just me being particular and not being able to let things go but I would've much rather it have not been mentioned (which I know would've been hard timeline wise) or if this book had maybe come later (I'm trying to be vague so I don't spoil it).

Bea & Priest have been an antcipated couple for me and I'm glad I've finally read their story. It had that Sunshine/Grump dynamic that I love so much with added crazyiness, psychopathy & insanity. Their relationship as with their story was dark & gritty and included a few scenes some readers might feel uncomfortable reading but I had no problems with it, but keep that in mind if you are interested in this story.

As usual some of my favourite scenes involved the many characters surrounding the MC and how heavily involved they all are. This pack are truly some of my favourite characters ever written. Zeus was GOLD but Lou bothered me a little. I get where she was coming from with her protectiveness but I honestly felt she was hypocritical.

Priest's backstory and just his character in general was everything I wanted and more. I was always intrigued by him and this book made me fall even harder for the cold, closed off, loyal, protective psycho even more.  Bea's naivete bothered me a little but she eventually grew on me. I did however want a little more build up between the two to begin with. The way in which their story was conveyed made me hard to connect to it. I'm not sure if it was the writing or my mood but I just felt like I was reading about these two but not feeling any of the strong emotions, like I felt indifferent to it.

Another slight issue I had with the story, and this is very much a me problem and not the book, but I instantly knew who the 'big bad' was the minute they were introduced and the more the story played out the more obvious it became. I managed to predicted quite a lot of the twists but there was maybe one or two that I missed but over all not much shocked me about this book.

Though this wasn't my favourite book in this story I still did enjoy it but it was missing a little something and I just expected more from it. I love the way Giana writes her stories and I'm hoping the rest of the series is as amazing as some of the previous books. My list of future Main Characters I'm hoping & waiting for next grows every book and I honestly wouldn't be mad if this series never ends and I would gladly read all the books.

This book was long and it was delicious!!! Its steamy and dark and It did break my heart few times did tear up to. I really enjoyed it I was pretty nervous because well I LOVE PREIST!!!

I have been waiting for this couple for ever!!! And I enjoyed it so much!! And have to say Preist almost knocked daddy Z off on fave in this series daddy Z still number 1 but Preist is number 2 for sure!! He was cold, twisted, fucking 🔥🔥🔥 when needed to be and he had a obession with Bea almost as long as she had a obession with him. I also loved that he was 100% honest with Bea and informed her this is me take it or leave it and all always be honest with you. As for Bea I really enjoyed her even if she had this whole innocent pure vibe going for her she still had a touch of darkness and understanding she never pushed Preist to tell her about his past or why he wouldn't go into church I loved that!! she also held her own and was wayy different from her sister Lou and I gotta say idk if Bea knew she was flirting or she was just over friendly with men few times? But it didn't bug me because her thoughts were always about her Preist. And well Preist was no manwhore FUCK YES!!! WE LOVE THAT!!!

We get hints of other fallen men and past couples!! Gotta love daddy Z and his wisdom.. Lou did annoy me at one point because honestly she was being a hypocrite with her sister.. but I did understand why but glad Bea set her straight.

Idk what couple is next but I can't wait to see!!

angst, no ow drama and om drama (few guys wanted h and serial killer), no cheating, Drama, secondary charas, sexy times, virgin gal and no manwhore

Dead Man Walking was the crazy bone chilling worthy book that we were waiting for from one of the most messed characters from the series yet!! This story was intense, gritty, action packed and it left you wanting more from every single character.

Bea has a always been a good god fearing girl. She loves her sister, is good to her mother, and she has never skirted on the wrong path. But that’s all about to change when she learns that she’s in danger and the most notorious and ruthless man in the club, has vowed to protect her.

30580344-SY540

Priest is a lethal killer and he has no problem putting anyone down. You mess with him or his club, it’s game over for you and your body parts. Caring about someone has never been in his plans but from the moment he met the blue eyed beauty, he knew that she was going to change something inside of him. With danger lurking too close to home, Priest makes it his mission to protect her at all costs and no one is going to get in his way.

I have been a fan of this series for a very long time and I have to say that it keeps getting better and better. We knew that Priest was going to be a head case and I was prepared for that but I really loved to see him in his element. He was quiet in a sense and did his own thing but deep down to his core, he was always loyal and he showed you his kind of love in his own way. I think that Bea was the perfect match for him and they both brought out the best in each other.

If you haven’t read this series yet, you really need to give it a try and I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

Not all love stories play out in the light. Some of the best romances occur in the veil of shadows.

This was just okay. Not as exciting as I hoped it would be, or as I hoped Priest would be. A lot of problems I had with this book, are the same problems I had with the last book, minus the romance and the repetitive plot from the last book, but I did enjoy it still, even if it didn't necessarily live up to my expectations, which were high, to be fair.

One thing I did like, was Priest, of course, and his kinkier ways (hello knife play🔥) and how Bea is supposed to be the opposite of him (is she though?). They did fit well together and knew when to push and pull, so there wasn't a whole lot of conflict between them which I liked. BUT on the flip side of that, I felt like I was missing out on a whole chunk of their development and relationship. In the previous books, we got full scenes on how characters met and how they fell in love, but this one just has like one flashback of when Priest first wanted Bea, then it goes to them diving head first into the relationship, and it totally bypassed the essentials needed in order for me to really feel their chemistry and connection. I also felt like we didn't get enough dialogue between them either. It was either just sex, him grabbing her throat, or him playing with his knives (def became a little OTT for me). I get that he doesn't talk a lot, but I needed something other than sex from them. I kind of wish we also got some resistance or maybe struggle from Bea too. I understand how she is all for the "bad boys" so she was all so happy to jump right in with Priest, but I wanted a bit more of the "sunshine" trope, I mean, c'mon, she's even called *cringe* "sunshine girl" *cringe*. Her wearing pink and going to Church as the reasons they are opposites, doesn't make sense; her personality needed to reflect them being opposites too. Maybe that was Giana's intention, to do the whole Harley Quinn/Joker vibes thing, but it just didn't satisfy or work for me.

To add onto Bea's personality, one thing that has been bothering me with the last few books in this series, is the lack of autonomy and independence between most of the characters, mainly the heroines though. Put them all in a room together, and I wouldn't be able to tell one from the other, especially in their whole "biker babe" mode (also OTT). After three books it was okay and I felt enough difference between Cress, Lou, and HR, but after 6 books? It's now officially getting on my nerves. I get that maybe it's supposed to be some "woman power" thing where they are badass all the time and get along so well, but why do they all act the exact same? They all come from very different backgrounds, so where are the struggles or the adjustment to having to fit into an entirely new role? I think Cress was the only one who did struggle with it a bit, but the rest fit into the MC role a little too seamlessly which is super unrealistic. They're all like "my man, I'm a queen, blah blah blah", and I'm so over it and all the sameness. And a quick note to add, I feel the same way about the blatant physical affection they all have towards one another. Maybe it's because I'm the complete opposite, but why is literally everyone so touchy feely all the time? What's up with all the cheek kissing and hand holding?👀

I did like the plot more in this one thankfully. It didn't necessarily have a surprising end or antagonist (I guessed the bad guys pretty early on) but I did enjoy the overall plot, especially since we got away from the repetitive one with Javier, which I was so over tbh. I don't like how they keep trying to work with the cops though after they have proved to be more of an inconvenience more and more every book, so I wish the MC would have learned pretty early on that they're better off doing the work themselves than with the cops.

Overall, this was still a decent book, and I'm glad to have read it. It wasn't the best in my opinion, but it is still well written and entertaining. Maybe it's because there has been 3 or 4 fallen books released this year that all the characters and stories are bleeding too much into each other, so I'm hoping that since we will supposedly get a break from the fallen world this next year, that Giana will take the time and use it on how to make each character their own instead of focusing on just the MC side of the story.

Another quick note: the novella with King's return should have definitely been released before this book seeing as it takes away some of the impact and feels that were supposed to have. It felt as if I was missing a whole 'nother book and it made the timeline feel off, so, ya, didn't like that.

Safety:

Virgin h/non-virgin H

No OW drama/a little unwanted OM drama

No manho...? (Vague details)

Only with each other in the book, not sure if hero was with anyone over the two years they have known each other, before they get together though

No cheating

I didn’t like this and I’m bored of the same dark romance novels being released. I was trying to convince myself that I liked it and at least some parts were enjoyable but no it wasn’t. I’ll give it 2 stars though because I managed to finish it.

"“Better men could love you. But now, I’ll kill any of them who try.”

Giana Darling did it again and created yet another masterpiece in the Fallen Men series. If you love Age Gap, Slow Burn, Angel/ Psychopath then this book is for you.

Dead Man Walking follows the story of Priest and Bea. Who are complete opposites, but who doesn't love a grumpy/sunshine trope. Bea is the sweet innocent girl with Priest is the Irish enforcer for The Fallen Men MC. I loved both characters but I especially loved Priest because who doesn’t love a dark, possessive, psychopath!?

I 100% recommend this book and the entire Fallen Men series! I can't wait for the next book.

I wanted to be the hero, not the virginal bait or the dumb blonde who dies first in every horror film cliché.

Struggled to organize my thoughts on this one. So if it's a rambling repetitive mess, forgive me in advance. This was super cringe. The characters, the writing, and the dialogue were so cheesy. Everything about this fell so flat. What a waste of a gorgeous cover. I knew going in this was a dark romance with an anti-hero but damn was this trying so incredibly hard to be edgy and cool. The whole virginal heroine who dresses up in pink but has a fanatic obsession with death and psychopaths just really wasn’t my thing. It could have maybe been my thing if Bea was written with more depth and ingenuity. I maybe would have liked her if she was more than just an airheaded idiot trying so hard to sound cool and knowledgeable about sociopaths with her armchair psychologist diagnoses and bible preaching. The number of times we are told how she's a good girl with a "dark side" will make your eyes go cross and test your patience. It's 500 pages and 2 epilogues worth of telling you how dark, psychotic and bad the hero is and how the heroine balances out his darkness "with her light".

Beatrice has been obsessed for years with The Fallen MC’s enforcer Priest who kills people. All things bloody, bad and hardass turn on our 19 year old Catholic school girl, bless her heart. I'm sorry but this girl was unbelievably stupid. I cannot stress the stupid part enough. I knew I was in trouble from Chapter 1 when girlie suddenly went from bored to turned on by her preppy date when she discovers he's peddling drugs as a side hustle. You know, cause SHE LIKES BAD BOYS™. Cause selling drugs is so naughty and sexy y'all! Rwar. 😐......

“And Priest? I might look like an innocent little girl, but my fantasies have always been dark, sinful, and rough.”

I was just a dark heart wrapped in a pretty pink bow. It astonished me how many people chose to focus on the beautiful ribbon instead of what it harboured inside.

The main reason I stubbornly hung in there was because of Priest and his Irish background. But the writing did him no favors in making him out to be nothing more than a 2 dimensional stereotype who doesn’t feel real. Everything about this guy was so cheesy and I'm annoyed because his dark traumatic childhood is so heavy but the writing ruined whatever potential he had. His dialogue is awful. His interactions with the heroine are awful. I’m pretty sure the sex was supposed be dark and sexy but it wasn’t for me. I was bored out of my damn mind. Your hero is a high functioning sociopath who keeps mentally bragging to readers on every page about how dark and bad he is but all he has to show for it is quick chitty chitty bang bangs against the wall? I mean come on. And I seriously do not need the hero to literally announce he's about to fuck the heroine every. single. time they are about to have sex. If I had a nickel for every time this guy says "I'm gonna fuck you now. I’m gonna fuck you hard. Need to mark what’s mine" I would be rich. Don't ruin the mood by having your hero tell us everything he's about to do during naughty time. It's so corny.

“If I make you mine, you stay mine until death comes for us. You’re mine in the night and the shadows where I’m fucking king. You’re mine in the light with your family and friends, standing beside Death as his queen. If I’m a killer, you’re a killer. Where I end, you fucking begin.”

And seriously what was with all the over the top bloody gore? It was so bizarre in it's lack of realism. Bea was either a harpy in another life or this author liked to get carried away. One scene this girl is ripping a man's whole ear off with her teeth and in another scene she defaces her attacker from forehead to chin with her fucking fingernails, flapping skin and all. What was the reason? *gag*

I thought of Priest, and the way he’d slit Brett’s throat without remorse. The way he’d done it with quiet, loyal pride like a cat killing a bird for its master. How could I resist a man who was so willing to kill for me?

A giddy little giggle boiled in my throat, bubbling up from a dark, heated place in my gut that Priest never failed to stoke into flames. I felt drugged by Priest’s display of villainy, seduced completely by his demonstration of ruthless dominance. I was his, his, his.

As for the writing itself, if you can't already tell by now I clearly wasn't a fan. You could literally feel the straining effort through the prose. The writing feels unwieldy in it's effort, it just weighs everything down. And the complete word vomit of metaphors and similes packed in is so distracting and overwhelming that it takes you out of scenes. Nothing about this feels natural or nuanced in it's delivery. Nobody talks this way verbally or mentally. The writing also made no sense half the time. It really felt like Darling was so focused on getting in all her clever flowery metaphors that she loses all structure in her writing. This really needed an editor.

Whatever I succeeded in writing on the screens of my blue eyes, Priest read the way a monk devours scripture.

The idea of making that pretty face frown skittered disappointment down the piano keys of my spine.

The roots of my hair stung and the knife at my throat was still and portentous presence.

“It doesn’t matter what I am,” I defied, even though my heart clunked like shoes tumbling in the dryer.

His arms banded around me too tight, twin cobras suffocating my youthful, untrained fervour.

And for the love of gawd someone please explain to me why everything was repeated in 3's? Why is this a thing? Nobody talks this way. And yes even the monosyllabic hero does it. They like to say, say, say things in threes for emphasis even though it makes, makes, makes, no, no, no sense. Is this a new trend or something in CR? Cause I caught this same style in another book I recently read. I hate it. It reads like mistakes. It does nothing but distract and make your characters sound like they are malfunctioning.

I wondered, calmly, if this was how I was going to die. If this was it, it, it, and I was going to be dead, dead, dead.

So clearly this was not for me and Giana Darling is not for me. I love angst and dark characters but I need some semblance of realism in the writing to hold my attention. Actually, scratch that--no I don't need realism I just need good writing and this just ain't it. This was just so obnoxious in all corners for me to even enjoy it. The stalker-serial killer reveal was even predictable. I figured out who it was not even half way into the story but I was hoping it was a red herring because it felt so obvious. But alas, no. I was considering giving this author another try with the secondary character in this Cleo but given what happens to her in this and the direction Darling took her, the interest is no longer there. This book and author just wasn't my cuppa.

Do you think you could fall in love with a psycho?

description

A quick definition of psycho is someone who has serious mental problems and who may act in a violent way without feeling sorry for what they have done.

That is the perfect description for Priest. A man who because of the way he grew up has lost all sense of emotion. A man who will do anything and kill anyone without remorse to protect his club and their families. A man who at this point is so scarred and.... well..... psychotic he doesn't even believe the organ pumping blood through is body is capable of anything but that. But he is also man that who will stop at nothing to make sure the light in his very dark life, his secret obsession Bea, is safe even if he doesn't believe he deserves to even in her in presence.

“Better men could love you,”
“But now, I’ll kill any of them who try.”

So yes, I can abso-fucking-lutely fall in love with this dark and twisted psychotic man.

And so can sweet Bea. Who on the outside is the perfect little church-goer who is overly (no seriously, overly) obsessed with pink, but on the inside she craves darkness and depravity and the only one she truly sees is as dark as they come. A killer, a psycho, the Enforcer for The Fall, MC, her dark obsession Priest.

“Not all love stories play out in the light. Some of the best romances occur in the veil of shadows”

She has watched Priest from the moment his darkness came near her, little did she know he was watching her back just as hard. And when a serial killer targets her he is the only one that she truly wants protecting her. I mean the best way to fight a psycho is with a psycho right?

And peeps, let me tell you this book is HOT AS FUCK!!

description

“Pull my hair, bite my neck, leave me bruised and ruined by your love until every inch of my body is singing of you.”

Like most books I'm falling in love with lately, this book is not for the faint of hearts. Its always the ones you least expect that are totally depraved and it's awesome.

description

This story was dark, angsty, intriguing and had me sucked in from the first chapter. This couple had me seriously contemplating what the fuck is wrong me and wonder why I'm always falling for the stalkers in books, but at the same time not giving a shit that I'm seriously messed in the head.

If you love yourself a dark and gritty story to entertain you, then you will definitely enjoy this ride.

“I will keep you safe. Everyone who knows me fears me and those who don't, will learn to.”

"Alexa play In The End by Linkin Park"

Fancy words, pretentious and flowery prose, an honest albeit not the greatest attempt at clever, more mature writing. It just didn't work for me. This could be one of those it's me not the book situations, but I can honestly say I tried. Maybe the author over indulged with the jargon, and that was the problem. Maybe it was the excessive use of similes and metaphors, or Bea describing Priest's freckles as "cinnamon flecks"... JUST USE THE WORD FRECKLES.

In the words of John Green's english teacher, Stop trying to show me how good a writer you are and tell me a fucking story!

Okay so I finally decided something

A lot of women don’t write MC clubs well

But I’ll get to that in a minute

First off I read the secret affair by this author and enjoyed it I even read enthralled and that was enjoyable for me too because it was messed up dirty kinda taboo but most of all written well.

Now here’s the thing I have read a lot of MC by authors and let me say... a lot of women spoil it for me because they seem to think that the men in the club probably just lie around there saying

“ yeah where bad mother fuckers don’t mess with us”

Like how corny is that?

A lot of them don’t do any research regarding the topic and I find that so sad because a MC in it just a bunch of dudes saying we bad don’t mess with us because it’s hot .

Like how many times is priest going to say he’s the Baddest mother fucker in the joint and he doesn’t feel anything because he’s a “ psychopath”

Wow really bruh are you...

Thanks for telling be that every. Single. Chapter

He’s a bad one look out priest kills for his club... that’s so bad and unheard of.. oh and he like rough sex... ohhhhh damn that’s a baddie

The amount of times I was rolling my eyes wtaf is this series?

But like it’s so over done and the cliché lines I’ve read this almost exact plot in MC romances at least a thousand times before.

Beas just a fucking idiot what dumb ass after being in a car wreck say thank you to the guy who did that too you than form an obsession with the guy even more... like are you dumb

Oh he saved me... no he almost killed you

And I get it I get these authors think it’s dark or some shit or poetic to make the girl attracted to his so called “danger”

But you want to know what would be really different idk maybe having your heroine have a brain for starters making her different from all the other heroines out there that are obsessed with “ there men”

And what is it with this series with the girls always wanting the guy so bad and then having to pine away and the guys being all

Noooo I’ll ruin her

There all just a bunch of fuck bois really

What are they dying about?

The sex was a cringe I really thought that was going to be my enjoyment out of this but any dude who says

“ yeah you couldn’t Handel This dick little shadow” ummmm okay chill bro you just have one regular dick

Don’t get all special cock syndrome on me boo

Let’s end this year with a bang because Dead Man Walking by Giana Darling is phenomenal!!

I have always been a fan of The Fallen Men series and ever since Daddy Zeus in Welcome to the Dark Side (The Fallen Men #2), this series has become one of my favourite MC romance series. These books are never cookie cutter and I LIVE for this series. Dead Man Walking just proved how phenomenal this series is.

We were first introduced to Beatrice in Welcome to the Dark Side and let me tell you something…You are not going to believe that this is the same shy, sweet Bea from book 2. Who would have thought that sweet innocent Bea, who loves the colour pink would have such a dark side? Nobody in a million year would have believed that this innocent girl is so drawn to the dark, twisty things of life.

I cannot believe I am saying this but I think Priest is hands down become one of my new favourite characters from the Fallen Men series.
Priest as we have come to know from the previous books, is the enforcer of the Fallen MC. So I knew I was going to be getting some dark scenes but damn…even from the very first chapter, we were thrown into the lion’s den and I am all for it!

I’ll start with the obvious and say that I didn’t want this book to end. I loved the characters, the storyline..the chemistry, the loyalty, the friendship and love between all these wonderfully written characters were AMAZING!
Giana Darling did an OUTSTANDING job with Dead Man Walking.

I fell in LOVE with Priest; the possessive, PROTECTIVE, surprisingly gentle alpha male, through and through. I also feel in girl-crush with Beatrice, the sunshine girl..the good Christian girl with an obsession for violence, darkness and all things sinful.

Dead Man Walking by Giana Darling is VIOLENT, GRAPHIC, DARK, TWISTY, SEXY AF, all consumingly BRILLIANT!!!

Unfortunately, I’ve already posted my top reads of 2020 but if I were to add another, this book would be it. Dead Man Walking would DEFINITELY be on that list.

I cannot recommend this book enough..GO GRAB IT!!

Dark, twisted, angsty, tormented, thrilling... this book is amazing!
It is by far the darkest of all the Fallen Men books.
At almost 20 years old, little Bea is all grown up. There is darkness and deviancy behind this sweet, angelic, God loving girl. She has been drawn to Priest, the Fallen MC enforcer since she was 14 years old. His psycho vibes and cold demeanor speak to her.
Priest is a psychopath with a terrible past. He is closed off, tormented, possessive and obsessive. He imparts the outlaw justice ruthlessly.
Together, these two make the most unlikely match yet they complement each other perfectly.
This story is about the beauty found in darkness, about acceptance beyond societal standards, about the healing power of love.
The way Bea understands Priest and manages to draw him out of his shell is amazing.
Throw in the mix a serial killer with a God complex and you have the most complex book in this series. I loved the thriller vibes and the action scenes.
And the writing style... Giana Darling has a way with words like very few authors have, in my opinion. I fell in love with her characters and can't get enough.
Can't wait for her next book in this series.

Well, well well. It comes as no surprise to me that the darkest book in the series (so far) has become my favourite. Damon Torrance is my fave of the Four Horsemen after all 🤪

The story follows Bea, the “good Christian” girl, who has this inexplicable attraction to Priest, the Fallen MC’s psychopath enforcer. Yes, you read that right. Priest is a literal murdering psychopath 😳

Give me a fictional psychopathic man and I am immediately intrigued (wonder what that says about me). His character was just so INTERESTING that I was hooked into this book right from the start.

If you know me irl, this is the place where you stop reading this review, thank you.

Now THIS book had the level of kink that I wished Good Gone Bad (Harleigh Rose x Officer Lionel Danner’s book) had but was missing 🥵🌶🔥 Giana Darling, you did God’s work with this one. Christmas lights in bed??? Some scenes from this book gladly live rent free in my head 👀

Priest is an obsessive, broken, and protective man. All the things that scream 🚩🚩🚩 irl, but I gravitate towards in books. This mans is so broken that at the start of the book, nobody had touched his bare skin in over a decade & he refused to let Bea do the same… don’t know what trope that is but holy shitballs 🤭

Bring on book 7!! I’m so ready for it 😍🌶🔥❤️🥵

Confession: They only reason I read this book was because of the cover. I can not explain how hot this cover is.🥵
I tried reading the other books in this series but wasn’t able bc of the author’s writing style. I really tried to like this and was enjoying( only bea and Priest moments) but in my opinion this book had no reason to be this long. Like seriously I was so bored of all the drama. The plot of serial killer was interesting and all but it was dragged.💔 Im really disappointed rn. I was waiting to read this book for months and now sad with the outcome.🥺☹️

Falling for a psycho has never been so hot! Priest’s darkness will devour her soul while Bea’s light will make him whole. The author will take you to the darkside once again with Priest and Bea’s unconventional, yet no less passionate, love story. Get ready to push your own limits and immerse yourself in their all-consuming darkness and light.

Bea is a good girl. She’s sunshine and sweetness. She’s devoted to her church and community. Yet her fantasies have always been about one man and veer more toward the darker side. Hanging around her sister Lulu and her MC husband and their friends, may have swayed her tastes. However, her fascination with serial killers may have also played a role.

When Bea gets targeted by a religiously motivated serial killer, the man who stars in every single one of her dreams will become her protector. Priest is a complicated man. He’s the Fallen MC’s enforcer. An Irishman by birth, but his past is a mystery. He shares little of himself, and feels even less. The man is a self-proclaimed psychopath with the penchant for pain and bloodshed. He is possessive and does not fear death or taking life. Bea is the light to his dark. Being with him means welcoming death as part of her life.

Bea slowly crumbles his walls as he fights to keep her safe and they work to uncover the killer. The man who thought he could no longer feel, is devoted to her safety and happiness. Their love in unconventional. The way he shows her affection is not for the faint of heart. It’s messy and may push you outside your comfort zone, but this is their story.

The author stayed true to Priest in her depiction of his love. Her words are always beautiful even when coated in blood. The story was dark but no less romantic. Once again, she captured my heart with the Fallen Men. Bea and Priest were made whole by their devotion to one another and acceptance of every part of the other. A man who thought he was dead will be re-born in his love for the woman who breathed light into his dark world.

I am left with a bit disappointment. Dead Man Walking received so many hype and the result did not really meet the high standard. Miss Darling gambling by using too much inner dialog to build the story.

I understand that it is important to have inner dialog for story to develop. But not this much. Because too much inner dialog, the real conversation between Priest and Bea is neglected. So it is weird for me to connect with their chemistry.

And the plot is not that dark. The serial killer plot is abandoned in the sea of inner dialog.

Ok, so don't hate on me, but I just could not get into this book. The first 20% was amazing -- I am in no way disputing that. But after that mark, it just became *so* boring. The suspense aspect was interesting, but I was in no way surprised about who the big bad actually was. If anyone has seen a religious cult documentary, you will know who it is right away. There was definitely some good suspenseful scenes, but overall I just saw the entire thing coming, and after all the reviews I read about there being a mind-boggling twist, I just felt sort of let down with how it actually went.

As for the romance between Bea and Priest, I genuinely liked them at first. They were complete opposites, but the darkness in Priest was soothed by the good that Bea exudes, and she also has a darkness within her as well that melded their souls together which I thought was truly great. But after a while I felt like I was reading the same scene over and over again: they would share some intimate, emotionally draining scene, have sex, and then Priest would try to shove her away, and then come back at the last second. And then repeat. Repeat. Repeat. I get that Priest has been though some truly horrific thighs, and that's why he doesn't handle human emotions well at all, but after a while I just wanted him to love Bea the way she loved him. Yes, he was her personal psycho and he was very much obsessed with her, bit I never felt his soul crushing soulmate level of love that she felt for him.

And while this is only the second book I've read by this author (and therefore only the second book I've read in the series) but there seemed to be an overwhelming number of sex scenes. Listen, I love sexy times as much as the next reader. The dirtier the better. But I wish there was more time spent on their emotional connection versus their physical one.

I did love the little snippets we got of Dane -- I can't WAIT for his book(s)!! -- and Bat! Those were my favorite parts!

I don't know if it's the mood I'm in, but I just found this book to be so underwhelming. I really loved IiL, so I couldn't wait for this book.. But there was just such a disconnect for me. I think the book could have easily been 30% shorter. It was just too much, yet not enough all at once.

I'm in no way trying to be mean, especially since I'm so curious to see whay the other books in the series will be like, but this was just not the book I hoped it would be.

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions.**

Dead Man Walking a dark romance worthy of this definition. I’m glad to see how this author’s writing is evolving and gets better and better with each book.

Priest McKenna the enforcer of The Fallen a man most steer away from, and nobody dares glancing his way let alone look at. Death personified, he doesn’t care, he doesn’t feel, he doesn’t know what feelings are, an heartless man not because of his actions but because he lacks said organ...

🖤“This isn’t the story of a good man. A tale of redemption or salvation. I require none of the former and seek nothing of the latter”

Beatrice (Bea)Lafayette virginal, pure, angelic features, soft, loving sunshine girl. All this blinding lights when all she craves is to be enveloped by shadows, to be swept away by her beloved demon, because even Death has a beating heart, even Death is capable of feeling, of love. Now if only she could show him and the whole world the beauty of pink drenched in black...

🖤Even as a child, I was drawn inexplicably to those things opposite of me. Violence and darkness, immorality and iniquity. I was a good Christian girl with an obsession for those who sinned.

Love in its raw and unrefined form, perfectly imperfect, bleeding from the dark pages of this riveting story.

🖤“We were two very different souls that only made sense together. Yin and yang. Sweet and bitter. Light and Dark”

Dead Man Walking is book #6 in The Fallen Men series, it’s Priest and Bea’s story. It’s delivered with a solid plot, mystery blending with the right amount of twists and turns. told in dual POV, the characters are well developed and you can enjoy their evolution, you get to spend enough time in their minds to understand the why’s and how’s of their actions and personalities. Even if it’s a standalone is better to read all the books in order to enjoy the full experience and savour the delicious moments where you find each character again and enjoy their interaction with their family.

Who knew Ms Darling had it in her! In this romance she lets her inner darkness out and what a game it brings on. This story has claws and a bite that will leave you wanting more and craving a darkness that will relieve your thirst.

DNF at 43%.

I don’t usually bother with DNF reviews but this book is long (well over 500 pages) so reading 43% of this book required both effort and more importantly, time, on my part. Time that I won’t get back, might I add.

I’m also grumpy because I’ve been in a miserable book slump and this book didn’t fix that. Every book I pick up seems to be a let down and this one was no exception….

In order to get out of my book slump and finally FINISH A FREAKIN’ BOOK, I was willing to overlook a couple of things in this book.

1. The writing….

How do I describe the writing???

Turgid? Tedious? Unoriginal? Overreaching?

description

Bad.

Yes, that's it.

The writing was bad.

There were a lot of run-on sentences. And overreaching metaphors. And redundancy. And lots of telling and not showing.

2. The unoriginal storyline.

This book reminded me a lot of other books written by other authors, such as: C.M. Owens, Kristen Ashley, Anna Zaires, Tillie Cole (to name a few). I don't want to read snippets of other books. I want to read an original story.

I noted these issues and was going to mostly ignore them in hopes that the story would improve. But then the book got gross. I enjoy a dark and twisted story. I think I have bookshelf on my GR account specifically called 'dark and twisted'. This book is dark and twisted but it goes too far for my tastes. I didn’t pick up a romance novel to read about violence, blood and gore.... repeatedly.

And, not that this made me stop reading the book, but I found the heroine’s character to be totally farfetched and unrelatable. A caricature of a character.

Sooooo, those are my rambling, grumpy thoughts on this book.
