I Can Yell Louder

As a child development expert, I really don’t care for this book. Instead we should teach empathy, perspective taking, and connection.

I typically like to give books a 5 star rating - unless they are just so awful that a rating less than 5 needs to be given. I revised my original kind rating of 3 - down to a 1.

This is the story of an obnoxious girl -Michelle - who loves to yell and scream all the time. Even her illustration is pretty awful - a picture of a child with wild eyes and a hate filled demeanor.

Blessedly a lovely un-named young lady finds a solution so that Michelle finally shuts up.

I have to wonder how a parent could have failed this child so much.

I will recommend to my husband that he take this book to the library and leave it in the room where people leave books they want to give away. It will not be given to any of our family or friends who have children.

This book should not be given to nice children.

This book is part of a group of 10 books that came highly recommended to purchase as a set. Evidently, the set of books together had found to have great impact on students who had difficulties with social interactions. When I find the article, I will include the link here.

"I Can Yell Louder!" is a great book to read to a class! The main character finds a way to deal with a classmate who yells a lot! She does have a creative way to deal with it. At the end of the book, there is a link to a "gift". Maybe the class could go to the link together to see the "gift." I have yet go to the link myself!

I read this to my kids and it is not good. Just sticking a bunch of rhyming words together and proclaiming they teach a lesson does not a lesson teach. As a preschool teacher, if I had a yeller in my room I would not use this book. There is no logic or lesson in the narrative, it just says a lot of things that rhyme and then says the yeller stopped yelling. There is no real reason why nor any usable solution to impart to children or adults. This is just rhyming fluff. Avoid this book

I don't usually like these CGI illustrated books but I found this one to be more detailed and refreshing with bright colors, it was like watching a cartoon. This teaches children to not yell or throw a tantrum when they want something they can't have.
