Greed and betrayal divided the Realms, leaving the power to restore them inside a young child that is sent away for protection. As she grows up her world is normal, safe, that is until she turns eighteen and Silas, a mysterious stranger, arrives claiming to be from another world and demanding she return with him to save both of their worlds. The more she learns about him and herself the more truth she finds in his stories as a power sparks to life inside her. Struggling between maintaining her normal life and coming to terms with her newfound destiny, Averie fights to stay in control of herself and her new abilities. With the help of Silas and her adopted brother Thane, Averie strives to gain control of her abilities to take back the Realms from the Betrayer Marcus and another unexpected enemy. With great power, comes great responsibility, and loss.
C.R. Rice enjoys spending her days with her family in sunny Florida, where the sun is always shining and the alligators are only slightly terrifying. After receiving a loving shove from her husband, she decided to take a step into the wonderful world of authordom with her first series in the Realm. When she is not writing she is reading, going on adventures with her rather daring four year old son and husband, or lazing about in the pool.
A hooded unidentifiable figure, neither resembling man nor woman, human nor animal, moved down the street in the darkness of night. No one saw it. The animals in the woods became restless. And when it reached the two-story colonial home, it leaped into a tree, evaporated into mist, and flowed through a cracked upstairs window, sliding along the floor and then rising back into the cloaked figure! It stood over the sleeping woman who had no idea of the people who desperately needed her in the “true world”. Even in this world, the death rates were higher though unnoticed. It blew silver powder into the woman’s face and it sunk into her skin. And as it retraced its steps, a voice in the wind said, “You shouldn’t have done that, Red.”
As Averie Hale turns 18, Silas, a mysterious stranger, arrives from another world to reveal her destiny. Power comes to life in her and she is set on the path to save both of their worlds. When she can control her abilities, she will confront the Betrayer Marcus as well as a surprise enemy and she will attempt to regain the Realms and end the destruction. This is the story the reader is invited to experience. It is a journey you will not soon forget!
I loved the rich imagery the author provided in the descriptions of the characters, their surroundings, and objects of particular interest along the way. Even the attention to sound was used to heighten what the reader was experiencing or hint at what might be waiting ahead in the dark. This was true “painting” of the scene for me, done very well and making the story come to life. The deliberate slow pacing of the story line at the beginning also gave the reader the chills of unease that heightened the effect. Right from the beginning, we are being prepared to experience each moment as Averie prepares to save us all. Don’t miss this one!
Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this book to read and review. This book was adventurous, captivating, creative, and fun! It follows Averie, a seemingly normal girl with a big secret. When she meets a mysterious, handsome man who claims to be from a different realm where magic exists, she finds out that she is not who she thinks she is, and is quickly swept into a dangerous war. I liked Averie from the start. She was strong, funny, and loving. I especially enjoyed how her mindset changed throughout the book, as well as her physical strength. As much as I enjoyed Averie's character, Thane was my favorite. He was the perfect, protective, older brother who loved and accepted Averie, the best sibling relationship. And while Averie's treatment of Thane wasn't very kind sometimes, he was forgiving and loyal, always being there for her. Silas was another character that I fell in love with, he was a perfect, swoon-worthy love interest. All the characters had such amazing chemistry and the relationships were adorable and lovable. And they all felt real and relatable, I could empathize with their struggles and feel their grief.
The one confusing part of this book was the pov shifts; sometimes the pov would change mid-chapter without warning and I would be confused for a couple paragraphs until I figured it out. But otherwise I enjoyed the story, and I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun, adventurous story with beautifully developed characters!
This is a full-length coming-of-age, OMG I'm a ... (Can't tell you but it took us all by surprise), action-packed, prophecy-fulfilling (we might still be working on that), alternate realm, good vs evil, changing destiny, YA fantasy And this is just the beginning of her journey
On Averie's 16 birthday things began to change - but like most teens, she put everything she has into ignoring the little issues - The pesky dreams that lean slightly toward nightmares The strange weather patterns (I loved this little tidbit) The feeling like she is a touch detached The man with the silver eyes As her 18th birthday approached it became harder to deny these incidents Harder - but not impossible Until Silas crashed her party and popped her bubble of denial
I looked forward to cuddling up each evening with these characters and traveling along with them as Averie discovered a whole new reality where she wasn't the odd duckling. Turns out she might be the prophecized one. What girl can say no to an opportunity such as that?
Now with Silas, the warrior and bearer of bad news, and Thane, her "brother from another mother", watching her back and guiding her steps she begins her quest to find out who and or what she is and if she can rejoin the splintered realms Sera, her BFF, is at her side for support And Lucas... Well I will let you decide when it comes to him
Her journey is far from easy but she is ready to kick booty and take no prisoners (okay she is working on it give a gal a break) as the past is uncovered and new hurdles develop Averia discovers not everyone is as they seem. Friends can betray. Enemies can assist. And nothing is truly black and white
Great world building A stellar cast of characters A solid storyline that keeps the reader engaged There were some areas, minor, that needed editing but nothing that detracted from the story Definitely will be returning
A book by an author I haven't come across before. Denial by C.R Rice is the first book in a young adult fantasy series that took me by surprise. I only discovered I loved fantasy a few years ago, and I have discovered I really enjoy being transported to worlds that are the culmination of another person's imagination.
Averie Hale celebrates her 18th birthday and she meets Silas, a mysterious stranger who has come from another world to reveal her destiny. She discovers she has powers and she is on a path that will save both their worlds. It is not without it's dangers. Will she be able to save the Realms before it's destruction is brought about?
This is a book you almost inhale. A fantasy with such vivid world building and highly detailed characters. C.R Rice has created a story I needed to read, constantly. No ifs or buts...I was there, with Averie every second. The rich imagery really aided me in picturing her, so I almost felt like I could have known her.
The way the author writes the story brings a sense of uneasiness right from the start. I was on edge straight away and as the plot developed the particular attention to small details built the tension throughout. I was hoping against hope Averie would manage to pull through and save the Realms!
A rich, perfectly paced fantasy that draws you in from the start. If you enjoy young adult fantasy...just pick this up! Thanks to Stephanie and C.R Rice for the ARC.
Averie and Thane were adopted and loved their little family and their lives. Silas was from another kingdom. The kingdom that had lost their princess and the heart of the realms. Silas realized that Averie was the missing Princess and traveled to their realm to bring her home to right the wrongs. Averie, Thane, Silas and others are on an interesting and exciting adventure full of danger, intrigue, betrayal, lies, magic and love. Fun read. Can’t wait to read the next book!

This was a fascinating story. From the very first scene to the end, this author built a vivid picture of the world in which these characters exist and I was enthralled by it. The characters were just as captivating as the storyline and I cannot wait to read more from this author.

In Denial, Averie is a typical teenage girl who discovers she isn’t who she thinks she is. She is from another Realm. A new guy blows into town and turns her world around in more ways than one. As Averie learns more about her background, she deals with overwhelming powers. Now, she has to work to control herself as she fights to move forward. Will she be able to handle this new life?

Denial is a cool coming-of-age fantasy. The story is interesting, but there are places where bits and pieces are missing. That sometimes happens when it moves from chapter to chapter. Typically, the story does come to a place where you find out what was missing though.
I am intrigued by the Realms and the story behind the breakup. This series has several books to read to discover the whole story. This book draws you in and makes you want to know more.
I like the group of characters that Denial focuses on, some from this Realm and some from another. The bonds and ties between them make them seem indestructible, although life throughs many challenging situations at them. There are more characters to like than dislike, but a certain someone has stepped up in the dislike department at the end of the story.
Overall, this is a good story that only inches into the Realms, and I am guessing there is much more to offer in the continuing books. If you like YA and fantasy, this is one to try out.
Thank you to Book and Wine Lovers Marketing and the author for providing this book for me to read and review.
In a new series, Averie has just turned 18. She is adopted and so is Thane, her brother. They have two close friends, Lucas and Sera. Avi keeps having dreams about a man and weird things happening. When she is out celebrating her birthday, he appears. Silas is from another Realm and is sent to find the lost princess, the Chosen One. Only she can defeat what has torn the Realms asunder. As Silas learns to navigate Realm 3, he will have to be very careful to explain things to Avi. Of course, at first, she does not believe him until he shows her irrefutable proof. She will let Thane in on what is happening since they have to train before going back. There is a special connection between Silas and Avi, which makes Lucas jealous. When she tries to explain things to Lucas, things boil over out of control and catastrophe strikes! Now, more secrets will come forth. More enemies will be shown. Thane will travel ahead of her to prepare for the war occurring. What will happen next? A fabulous series that sinks you in as soon as you start reading!
This is a great book for YA group and older. Averie was sent away for protection, but now that she is eighteen she needs to return. Wonder whats going through her head as Silas shows up and tells her its time for her to return to a realm she never new existed. Can she do what they want and bring the realms together? Can she control the magic that runs through her now?.

Denial by C.R. Rice is the captivating first book in a young adult fantasy series that genuinely took me by surprise. I only recently discovered my love for fantasy, and this story beautifully transports readers to a world crafted from the depths of the author's imagination. I found myself completely immersed, eager to explore every twist and turn of this enchanting realm.

Hooked from the first page. The book is captivating in its imagry and keeps you turning the pages. I love the character growth that begins from the moment you first meet the characters and continues with every decision they make, good or bad. The real life consequences and reactions to those consequences was such a relatible and refreshing experience to read.
I bought this at a con, met the author and read it the first day. I had to come back and grab the next one! they are so good! and the author is so sweet, i will recommend this to my friends. If you like the city of bones series you’ll love this
I dabbled through the novellas before jumping into the series. I found it to be a great, fast paced start to what seems to be an intense and exciting series. Looking forward to seeing how the relationships continue to grow. Love the breakthrough comedy scenes between the more heart pounding scenes...like prom.
