Aviara is a book that tells us the story of a young man diagnosed with a renal disease, and his journey towards finding help in discovering his true self and healing process.⁣
(Won't be spilling the whole tea because you deserve to experience this book yourself)⁣

Starting from the cover, this book is so beautiful and I admire it alot that I can't get over the cover, due the fact I'm a sucker for pretty books.⁣

Despite Aviara is a sequel to the author first book Odufa, it doesn't take away the experience of reading this on it's own. Just like @a_lit_babe said; both books equally served different purposes, while we were discussing because we buddy read this together.⁣

Aviara highlighted important themes interweaving from love to health awareness, desperation, Nigeria failed healthcare system and governance, faith, forgiveness, redemption, pragmatism, friendship, death, afterlife, philosophy, ancestry and self-reflection.⁣

This book is a page turner, I must say. Filled with drama and secrets that I couldn't just keep calm still I got to the last page, and even that I had to reflect with the protagonist whole journey in the book.⁣
The author was good with his way of description and the story telling I must commend, was very competent.⁣

One of main reasons I highly recommend this read to y'all is because, it is very human relatable that I felt this couldn't just be fiction, and it turns out my instincts weren't wrong.⁣
It gave a huge stoplight on the health issues faced by humans, creating awareness/enlightenment about hypertension, kidney failure and other illness relating to them, discrediting the mindset we have towards these disease and finally giving us factors we don't put into consideration.⁣

The afterlife experience of the protagonist was really touching, giving you a reason to reflect on life itself.⁣

This book reminds us all of our health conditions and how we should take time to reflect and appreciate our good health. And for those with a certain disorder/illness, never to relent in keeping their health as part of their top priority.⁣

On the other hand, their is still more I feel is left unsaid and a third sequel to me won't be bad 😉.⁣
I was hoping to get a hint of Odufa's past from this book, but the story of Anthony took it all.⁣

4.5 stars!

I really enjoyed this one.

I love when a story is so good it almost doesn’t seem like fiction anymore. It was beautiful to see the unraveling of the story. Once I passed the 100 page mark, I couldn’t drop it.

Love how descriptive his writing is. I felt like I was in there with the characters. I felt like I could get a full sense of Aviara & the people of Aviara.

This book highlights the problem with the healthcare system as well as the ignorance of Nigerians when their health is concerned.

I particularly liked how accurate the medical aspect of the book was, As a Doctor, I was pretty happy about that. This book is one that’ll start conversations about kidney diseases and a whole lot that we should actually be talking about.

The themes here were family, grief, faith, spirituality and dealing with a chronic illness.

Aviara is the sequel to Odufa, It provides a more deep insight into the childhood of Anthony and his prevailing health condition-kidney failure.

We also get to meet his childhood friend and get to know about the brotherly love that existed between him and his brother was also fleshed out.It is very written and very detailed on the live of a patient with kidney failure the ups and down they face through trying to heal from the disease,it felt like I was reading a book written by a doctor with the detailed procedure and medications administered.

It shows how a mothers love is beautiful, strong and limitless; from employing all methods to make sure their kin gets better.

It also takes us on a ride to India, which i would love to visit someday especially Taj Mahal.

Looking forward to the day the government will place a better focus on the Health infrastructure/sector in the country cause it’s a much needed one and also the facilities to cater for the management of chronic diseases like well equipped dialysis centre for patients suffering from conditions similar to Anthony’s.

And did i mention the plot twist in this book is
🔥🔥🔥,love it.

It started out a 3, then became a 2. For a long time managed to remain a 4, but in the second book became a 3 again. At times it was very well written, but the book couldn't decide what genre or purpose it had. The story of itself was good and it was a good read. Ended up being somewhat of a religious read. Not overwhelmingly so, but covers the struggle of a person refinding his faith.

As for me, Othuke Ominiabohs can do no wrong in his works. This is his third book and I've read all three. I must confess that Aviara resonates with me on a deep plane. It's a force of a book, one that must be reckoned with. I love love it!!!

Not intrigued by this book... I didn't enjoy it. Too many things happening that I couldn't connect with the story. A mix of mysticism, mystery, folklore, spiritism/transcendentalism and all just had me rolling my eyes. I am like, what's the message? The dialogue was just so plain and lacked depth, the romance wasn't romantic and the end was just bland. Avaira is my grandmother's village and I have visited a couple of times. This story didn't even draw me to the place. Seeing all the hype around this book, it just fell short for me.

4 STARS!

This novel makes you appreciate life and every moment you spend living it. It was wild, enticing, enthralling and poignant. I think what I loved most was the how well written it was. The author has a way of sucking you into this world with his words, with each sentence carrying some form of power. It had so many strong themes and always found a way of intertwining them to create something magical. I would be lying if I said some parts didn't leave me confused, especially with the magical realism which I didn't expect but it also made me smile, cry and it warmed my heart. I loved reading this and it is definitely a recommended read!

Believe me when I say Othuke Ominiabohs is highly skilled in storytelling. I was so captivated while reading Aviara that I devoured the entire book in two days. As usual, Othuke also ended Aviara with a cliffhanger making us all anticipate what comes next.....

When you finish a 326-paged novel in less than 24-hours, then you know you're on to something that is can only be described as "Unputdownable."
