I was skeptical about reading this book for class. It was an optional assignment, but I realized I needed to read it since the words "biblical worldview" never come up in my daily life as a public school teacher. Having been chastised for proselytizing this year (trying to convert students to my political views), I have embarked on soul searching in this graduate program. What is interpreted as proselytizing is really attempting to get students to develop their own world views and find the evidence to support them. I have always viewed my teaching as spiritual calling. Through profound beliefs in the worth of the students I teach and the ideas of mercy, justice, inclusion, equality, balance, peace, and truth, I try to educate students to be profound thinkers and actors. This book actually confirmed my practices rather than criticized them. I found myself agreeing with more of it than disagreeing.

A comprehensive guide to curriculum development from a biblical worldview, this book articulates a nuanced approach to building the content of every subject from a holistic Christian perspective. This book is assigned reading as part of my school’s professional development. Our school is a stark mix of Korean and western educational models while we all seek to do everything as Christians building up the Kingdom of God. It sounds nice but it’s very challenging. This book will enter our fray and give some common language and unity to our subject group meetings and syllabus building efforts. It’s a dry 250 page read unless you’re a Christian education nerd.

Good framework for Christians to have when it comes to curriculum. I appreciated the author’s words, it is rich with biblical truth.
“If Christians in education take seriously the teachings of Jesus, they will, like the critical theorists, teach with and for commitment. Their belief in biblical love and justice will affect how they plan and implement their programs. They will plan units and courses that are framed by a biblical worldview. Their faith and their worldview will inform the key curriculum decisions they make each year, each month, and each day.”
