Maggie Angel accepts a chance of a lifetime when her aunt offers her the family’s dilapidated Bayou Cottage in the swamp at Cypress Cove. It’s the perfect place to run away to after her heart was broken.
The first night while she’s down at the road to lock the gate, a hunky guy on horseback steps out of the woods, but Maggie doesn’t recognize him. Turns out they were childhood playmates long ago during winter visits to her grandparents’ cottage.
Justin Chastain, local vet and wild horse advocate, heard through the grapevine that Maggie had returned to Cypress Cove and wanted to see her for himself. But he didn’t know that she was hiding from a failed marriage, leaving her with a big chip on her shoulder. It remains to be seen if she can ever trust again.
The chemistry Maggie senses fluctuates between lukewarm and molten, but for Justin, it’s constant and he’s falling in love, hard.
Then he unintentionally commits a blunder that Maggie will struggle to forgive, and they have to start all over again.

Super sweet story. Lots of hunky, sexy men with their southern charm. You will fall in love with this gorgeous Louisiana town and all of the characters. I wanted to just jump right in the book, be at the cottage, watching the wild free horses.
It was my 1st read by Suzanne Jenkins and I loved it. I’ll be back for more.
Maggie Angel has been very unlucky in love and has fled to Cypress Cove, to lick her emotional wounds in the haven of her Aunt Elizabeth's cottage, where she's been so happy in the past.
No sooner has she begun to settle in, than locals who remember her earlier stays come to call - several of them asking after her Aunt! There is no shortage of younger admirers for the beautiful new divorcée either, which helps rebuild Maggie's self-esteem - until an unexpected event throws her into further turmoil and despair.
Can Maggie escape the past and learn to trust any man again? How do wild horses bring devastation - and salvation?
A wonderfully realistic, heart-warming, second-chance, romantic suspense story, that opens her new Cypress Cove series, Bayou Cottage by the Queen of Romantic Suspense, Suzanne Jenkins, definitely deserves pride of place on your romance bookshelf.
Get your copy as soon as you can and settle down to a wonderful love story, that will thrill and delight you in equal measure!
Maggie wants to escape people after a difficult situation, ending in divorce. Her aunt offers an isolated cabin, that is in need of TLC. Some people remember her from her childhood, when she spent time at the cabin with her aunt.
People keep showing up at her locked gate, including Justin Chastain, a sexy veterinarian in town. A few other men are interested in her, but Maggie develops a severe case of the hots for Justin. He has plans for her and her place. Someone else appears to be watching the cottage and Maggie. But who can it be and what to they want.
This is a well written book, with great dialog. I listened to the audio version and I thought the narrator did a top notch job. She developed voices for all the characters, including accents. I recommend this book for mature readers because of some of the topics raised in the book, and some hot sex scenes.
I was provided with a copy of the audio by the author. This is my honest review.
Maggie Angel is starting her life over after a bad divorce. She goes back to the bayou to her aunts cottage. Justin Chastain is the local Vet.He and Maggie we’re childhood friends
“I spent part of every February here with her. We probably ran into each other.” Her heart was thumping in her chest. Remember him? He was almost her first kiss. Almost. Looking at her sidelong, a slow grin took over his face. “I remember you well,” he said. “Sassy.”
This is a sweet slow romance. Laid back just like the small town atmosphere of Louisiana. Quick and easy read nothing to complicated just a nice romance.
Maggie Angel is trying to heal from a bad divorce, so when her aunt offers her cottage to Maggie, she decides to take it so she's off to Cypress Cove to start fresh. Justin Chastain is the vet in town, and they were actually childhood friends, so when he heard she was back, he needed to see her for himself. That stars the slow burn journey for them with a chilled vibe so hardly any drama which was delightful to this reader. I wish I could find a small town like this to recharge from life's heaviness, so I will be revisiting this short(ish) read when it's time to reboot. I hope all you will give this story a go as I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I found this first book in the "Cypress Cove" series easy to read. Suzanne Jenkins skill with words created a picture of the place and animals in my imagination. The issue that I have with the story was that many of the details about the people were glossed over or not really explained. Since this book was the beginning of the series, it is possible that some of the details will be explained in future books. I liked the story well enough that I would be interested in the next one. Marnye Young's narration was fine. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.
This is a feel good story about recovering from a broken heart. Maggie has moved to Bayou Cottage after her divorce to start a new life. Not sure what direction her life will take, but sure it won't involve a man. So to her surprise, she finds two handsome men who show jnterest. Justin is the local Vet and Steve is part owner of the hardware store. As her feelings for Justin grow, Maggie keeps putting up more barriers. Can she overcome her barriers or will they stop her from finding true happiness. Can she finally let go and find love , like her Aunt, best friend, and her mother. Or will she stay alone at her Bayou Cottage?
Maggie returns to the family vacation cottage in Cypress Cove, to escape a failed marriage and to put her life in order. While there, she becomes reacquainted with Justin, a childhood friend who is now a vet. So begins the story...
What I didn't like...I thought Maggie was immature in her reactions to Justin What I did like---the thoughts that older women can have romance and marriage, not just the 20-somethings; I loved the wild horses and Maggie's sharing her land for a band. This is a little known issue.
The whole town gets involved when the great-niece of the town's former femme fatale moves back to her aunt's cottage in Cypress Cove. Love begins to blossom in the young and old alike. The sleepy, little town on the edge of the bayou receives an influx of visitors and new residents. Enough for a series of ten books. I read this first book over the course of 4 hours, and I'm sincerely happy I already have 4 more to read before I need to buy another one. So good!
I love stories about the swamps and such. So I was looking forward to reading this. Sadly there wasn’t much to keep my interest. The cottage and the townies are nice. The idea of the horses was different and neat. The town has a lot of characters that are wonderful...like small town full of characters. But the story just is a plain romance story. Nothing too exciting. I struggled to feel the connection between the two main characters.
This was a story I didn't think I'd like but boy was I surprised
I like the characters with all their flaws in insecurities. The author put together characters that were unique and somewhat damaged. The plot of running away isn't a new 1 but the author Made it unique in describing the area the town and the way the citizens interacted. I would recommend this book As I found once I started it I could not put it down.
Exciting to have a new series. I had a hard time getting into the characters and the story. Maggie is the central character and I find myself not liking her. She feels flat and one dimensional. I am hoping the next book will make me like her more. The other characters are okay. Just sketches around Maggie.
A story with a twist. I have to admit I didn't understand Maggie's way of thinking. I got a little irritated at her for it, but not everyone can be reasonable all the time. Ha ha.
I found this book at twist and turns. I was guessing what would happen next while listening to this story. I would recommend this book. I do not think you will be disappointed.
Maggie Angel is running away from her past. Trying to find mental clarity and peace, she takes over her grandparents cottage in Cypress Cove. While running away to find peace isn't a new topic by no means, I loved how Suzanne Jenkins made the characters so real in their issues, and how they came together to help each other. And I mean, come on, the descriptions of the hunky cajun men....yep I am hooked in this series!
