Mac hasn’t seen or heard from his family in years, ever since he was banished from the pack on trumped up charges. Against all odds, he thrived in the human world, eventually becoming an educated, wealthy man of means ー everything his pack elders swore he’d never be.
He should be content with his life, but he’s not. There’s something he needs to do ー prove his worth to a pack who’d always claimed he’d be nothing but a pathetic omega wolf.
What he doesn’t count on, though is Blue, an alpha from Mac’s past who’s all grown up and drop dead sexy. Together they set about to defy pack law and carve a life out for themselves, while hopefully saving the pack in the process.
Sometimes love isn’t enough to get you through. Sometimes, it takes a fight. And sometimes, it takes a war.
Heart of Silver is one of those books that sort of splits itself down the middle in terms of the good and the bad. There’s quite a lot to enjoy, but there are several issues that tripped up the story more than once.
Blue and Mac are the book’s strong points. They’re fairly well developed and work well as a couple. Their relationship is based more on physical attraction than anything else, but it reads as believable as they move forward. Mac is the stronger of the two characters in terms of definition, but I never felt Blue was lacking. Theirs is somewhat of a role reversal when it comes to alpha/omega pairings and, while it’s occasionally uneven, the overall romance was enjoyable.
I really enjoyed this book. It was the perfect lazy Sunday read. This story had alpha, beta, gamma and omega shifter, non-mpreg, wolf shifters. Mac was banished from his pack and had survive in the human world. Years later as a famous photographer, he returns to find nothing has changed and looks even worse. He meets up with Blue, who has been questioning how the pack works and his own sexuality. I like how the two men had to overcome their prejudices to work together. Of course, it wasn't easy and it nearly killed both of them. The ending was very sweet.
I love the main characters Mac and Blue! Kiernan Kelly has a way with words. She paints a vivid story on the pages of her books. You have the turmoil, struggles and trying to fit in whether in the pack or in the human world. Mac just wants the approval of his packmates. Blue definitely takes notice of Mac once he sees him again. Kiernan gives you your HEA and even adds a little something extra which surprised me. A wonderful read to escape into that will leave you feeling good.
Heart of Silver is the first book I've read by Kiernan Kelly which is a shame. I've met her a couple of times at two different Coastal Magic Conventions in Dayton Beach, Florida but I just never made the time to read one of her books before. When the opportunity came up to read and review Heart of Silver, I knew that I had to correct this oversight and read it. She'll be participating in the 2021 Virtual Coastal Magic next February and interacting with her again will have more meaning now that I've read one of her books.
This was a different kind of shifter story from most I've read. There are males, females, alphas, betas, deltas, gammas and omegas and a very distinct class system that separates the different castes with omegas being at the bottom of the pecking order. One omega chose to stand up against the system and ended up being banished from his pack at a very young age; no one expected him to survive.
Not only did he survive in the human world, he thrived, eventually becoming wealthy and famous for his photography. He returns to his pack intending to show them all that he became but things went a little differently than he planned.
This story was filled with so many different things that it's hard for me to know where to start. When Mac returns to his pack, he didn't count on finding someone to love, let alone an alpha. They have to hide their relationship, not only because they are from different castes but also because they are in a gay relationship.
The blurb for the book really sums the story up much better than I can. I'll tell you that I was on the edge of my seat, with my heart pounding, for a lot of the story and I had to finish reading it in nearly one sitting (I got interrupted when friends came to visit).
The information I got with my review copy said that this book was about 61,000 words. If that is accurate, it seemed like a much longer book to me – in all the right ways. You should know that there are some fairly violent passages, when challenges are made for leadership of the pack and when some truly evil pack members do horrible things, but I never felt that they were unnecessarily gratuitous; they were there to advance the story.
I wondered at the title for the book for quite a while but it finally made perfect sense before the story ended. This was a great introduction to Kiernan Kelly's writing and I'm now looking forward to reading more of her work.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
Fascinating slow-burn story filled with heart, love and hope. I really enjoyed this story about how a man can challenge the preconceived ideas of roles and morales. Finding equal treatment for everyone and that was so not the current pack structure. The pack hierarchy was functional only for the Alphas and their system had become so corrupt and filled with abuse. I thought this story was original and thoughtfully done and enjoyed the growth of the MC's, especially Blue. Max was an amazing man, an Omega that showed how wrong the structure really was. The writing was good and the pacing created a really great flow.
Max and Blue found their own journey that started with friendship and then to lovers and finally to real partners. I loved Max's passion and drive, he was truly special. Blue was so insightful and willing to think and learn that he was also exceptional. These guys really formed an intense and steamy connection that I as the reader could feel.
I was gifted this book from Gay Romance Reviews and i freely give my honest opinion and review.
So, I absolutely hated Mac's family/pack. He was kicked out a very young age & had to make it on his own in the human world, and he does. He not only makes a name for himself but he is the top photographer in his field had has made loads of money & will never have to worry again. Omega's, Beta's, Gama's & Alpha's are all of different societal group. Omega's being the lowest and treated like $hit. When Mac comes back to show them that he made it, he runs into Blue, an Alpha who he can see himself getting lost in. But the pack is homophobic so they have to keep their relationship secret. When they figure out what has been going on, Mac comes up with a solution with the thought he was going back to his old life. But Blue isn't going to give up on them. I really enjoyed this one & didn't want it to end.

The storyline showed exactly how people living in comfortable bubbles can't see glaring problems in other communities. There were parts that were definitely difficult to read. I didn't like seeing people who were treated badly just accept it like it was something they deserved. I didn't like mean, greedy little jerks get away with being high and mighty. But I liked that the majority of people were open to change when presented with new information, including a possible environmental reason for why the wolves were behaving like they were.
The romance between Mac and Blue was sweet, and I admit to wondering how they were going to make it work considering how each of them lived their lives prior to getting together, but the solution was ambitiously simple. Heart Of Silver is a stand-alone at the moment, but I'd be interested to see how everyone is fairing under the new system a few years down the line.
16 years ago, omega Mac was banished for a crime he did not commit. Now a successful, VERY successful photographer, something pulls him home to try to end some of the wrongs in his pack. Blue is an alpha who hung around with the alpha who got Mac banished. An all grown up, sexy as all get out, alpha who also thinks things are not right the way things are. Can a lowly omega and a high-ranking alpha really change the way the omegas are treated within the pack? For some reason, my immediate and long-lasting feeling about this book, is surprise. I don’t know WHY I feel surprise, but I do. So, forgive me if this review goes a bit squewiff while I try to work it out! I can’t always, but I have a feeling (those book feelings are pesky things!) this one just might work its way out of me. MacKenna is omega, the lowest of the low. In Mac’s pack, the omegas bear the brunt of everything. They chop wood, they do the laundry, they have to make do with what comes down from high. Mac defended himself but was not given the chance to tell his story and is banished. Blue wasn’t happy with that outcome, he thought it highly unfair and for many years after questioned a lot of things about the way the pack was run. Mac returning home after so long thought dead is a surprise that not everyone is pleased about. Mac and Blue joining forces? Never heard of before. But something is very wrong within the pack, VERY wrong with the way everyone is treated besides the alphas. OH! By Jove I think I’ve got it! I think I've figured out why I was so surprised at this book. Usually, within a wolf pack (or in the books I’ve read, and I’ve read a few 😊) the omegas are prized, valued members of the pack, since they bare the young. HERE, they are not. Omegas are born that way or demoted to. An alpha can be demoted right down to omega status for serious crimes, but here they tend to get away with it all. Some old timers in the pack have tales to tell, but no one listens. Blue does, but no one else. So, that’s why I was surprised: the way the omegas are treated here, like scum. Both Mac and Blue have a say, along with a couple of others as things descend into all out chaos. I loved that they did. It was needed to show just how far the alphas will go to keep things how they are, to keep everyone else in line. To the point of killing family. Because of those others having a say, it is quite violent, but it is needed to get the point across. Blue and Mac’s relationship is a bit of a slow burner, with Mac being the experienced one in a same sex relationship, having lived in the human world for so long. Blue is all kinds of cute when Mac and Blue first get physical, it made me chuckle a bit. I haven’t read anything by Kelly before. I wasn’t actually sure I would like this; it takes time to grab you fully, but once it does, it flies! And this is the ONLY reason I can’t stretch to 5 stars, because it took me so long to fully engage with everyone and get with the program. So, a very VERY good . . 4 stars **same worded review will appear elsewhere**
I enjoyed the world building in this book as it’s a different take on the hierarchy of a wolf/shifter pack, and the story is very much about the divides of class and the misconceptions that come with that. I loved the characters of Mac and Blue, and their growing friendship and romance, as they both work to change the status quo.
I liked how the two men are from different backgrounds and how that impacts their world view. Mac, as an omega, knows full well what it’s like to be at the bottom of the pack heap, and rebels against it, even before he sees what life is like in the outside world. Blue is fuelled by guilt of staying silent when he should have spoken out, yet because he’s an alpha, doesn’t really know much about the reality of how things really are for everyone else. I liked how neither of them can make the difference they need to on their own, but need to work together in order to move their pack out of dysfunction into a sustainable future.
There’s not just one bad guy in this story, but although they’re both nasty individuals, I liked how the story showed that they’re products of their own societies. I thought the way they were eventually dealt with was well done, and also showed the different approach the pack needed to take in order to move forward. The discovery about why things had deteriorated so much over generations to their present order was clever and made a lot of sense.
As well as Mac and Blue, this story has several memorable characters, and strong women, which I liked. The ending is very sweet, and the perfect HEA for these guys.
I was definitely impressed with this MM wolf shifter romance which is slightly different to the other books that I have read in this genre. It has an undertone of “enemies to lovers” with some good scene descriptions & world building. The plot is well-written, heartwarming & quite unpredictable at times which keeps the reader’s attention. The characters are well-portrayed with realistic emotional feelings & their reactions to the unusual situations are believable. It is about: a male omega (McKenna Fuller aka Mac) who was banished from the pack due to false accusations & later became a successful & wealthy young photographer, he returns to the pack with some mild vengeful feelings of showing them just how wrong their prediction about him was only to discover that the situation has gotten worse & his old enemy (Blue Standish) decides to help him change the pack’s outdated laws then the attractions begin to flare. There is: wolf shifters, humans, various kinds of pack castes twists & turns, intrigue, drama, suspense, action, adventure, deceit, betrayal, memories, confrontations, manipulations, attractions, treachery, threats, danger, enemies, violence, challenges, conflict, compromises, love, happiness, contentment & a delightful, happy conclusion.
A first read for this author for me with this book. A great start as the book got me intrigued. A 15 year time gap at the start but the story picks up when Mac goes home to trouble. Hmm rules are meant to be broken Right... Mac and Blue do there damndist for just about every rule to be broken. The pack segregates by the status of the members, omegas are the lowest and are not cared for at all which includes hard scenes. Alpha Blue takes a liking to Mac and questions the rules for changes. This book is a okay one and a slightly different view on wolf shifters statuses. Includes different scenes playing out with betrayal and life threats to omegas with lots other happenings. This was a hard one to rate, it had a good start but the further you learn about the pack its a hard read.
Mac was an omega of the Jewell Creek pack and winter was upon them but he's banished. 15 years later Mac a famous photographer but something calls him home.
˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ Y bueno, el romance entre Blue y Mac fue lindo e intenso, pero no me genero nada más, me falto algo con esta historia. No obstante, estoy segura que para otro lector será una maravillosa historia.
I did not like this novel so I don't know what I'm missing here.
I've read other novels by this author and enjoyed them. I was expecting to enjoy this as well. I thought the premise was strong and could've been a great novel.
I felt that the pacing was off and the random switching of POVs made the flow awkward. It would've been better if each chapter was a different POV instead of within each chapter.
One of the two antagonists was not necessary and weakened the novel. I didn't quite understand why this particular antagonist was needed. Take him out and the story doesn't change.
The ending was predictable and several small plot points (that I don't want to reveal) bothered me a bit. It was just too easy and almost deux ex machina in that the remaining problems were solved so quickly.
I love a good shifter story and this was a first for me from this author...it was sooooo good!! I enjoyed the fact that being an omega male didn’t result in pregnancy but was just one level of a caste system. Mac was a young omega male who was banished from the pack when he was only 16 under false accusations. He does well for himself in the human world and comes back to the pack 15 years later to rub it in their faces. He realizes the pack has gotten worse and with the help of, enemy-turned-friend-turned-lover, Blue, he gets the pack to change for the better. This story kept me wanting more and not wanting it to end. I loved how it ended and Mac and Blue were hot and sexy!!
This book had an interesting new take on the social dynamics of a wolf pack. I loved the way that Blue and Mac worked to get the pack to change. The characters were well developed and the language was beautiful. I was hooked from the first sentence. Blue and Mac are such great characters. I love the way that they both started questioning things separately and yet still managed to find each other. I loved the other characters too, Mac's family is great and the Blue's is interesting. I would love to see more of the characters but even if there are no more books set in this pack the book was good enough to stand on its own. I would definitely recommend this book.
Mac and Blue!! Loved them!! Mac is an omega who is banished by the pack Alpha. Blue is an Alpha. The pack has archaic view. Everyone thought that Mac had died when he was banished, but he returns several years later. He is allowed to come back into the pack. He goes to work for Blue and his family. When Mac is hurt, Blue helps him going against the packs rules. This was a really well written story and well developed. Loved it. I am voluntarily leaving a review form an ARC that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions
This book started off strong. But despite the start it was almost like the roles were mixed up. Mckenna was a very strong determinded and developed character, despite being "Omega" by birth.
Blue, despite being the "alpha" by birth and scent felt to me like a weaker character. Almost like he was secondary to Mac.
To me the story felt more that he was someone pulling themselves up by the bootstraps and making something of themselves, despite other people putting them in the place they think the other should be.
This was an intense and charged shifter book. Life is not idyllic in Mac’s pack. Although I wouldn’t wish his troubles on anyone, Mac has a strength and special way about him that leads to better things. Happily for us and him, he has Blue who not only believes in him but also softens his sharp edges. These two are golden together. They made me smile and believe in finding the good in people and life.
This was a nice and interesting setting. I really liked the premise.
It was fast paced, with a lot of action and things happening. Maybe a little too much at one stage, but overall it was good.
I really liked Mac and Blue, they are opposite not only to each other but to the class/cast they are born into. I really liked how their relationship evolved. It was sweet and hot.
I am always in for a story where characters are trying to change unjust things in their world and this one is built on that premise using an enemies to lovers trope in the process. Both characters grow and develop throughout the story and earn their HEA by the things they do both in their relationship and in their world. I also found it refreshing that Mac made his fortune as something other than a businessman in some sketchily defined business. A photographer was a nice change.
I received an ARC of this book for my honest review. Mac is an Omega who stood up against the system and ended up being banished from his pack at a very young age. He wasn’t expected to survive in the human world but not only did he survive he thrived and became very wealthy. He goes back to his pack to show them just how well he did and to show that omegas can succeed. His old enemy Blue decides to help him change the pack’s outdated laws and in doing so a romance blooms.
This one caught my attention when I read the blurb. The author always has a unique spin when it comes to the worlds she creates. Here we get an old world pack in a modern world. With the leaders mindsets reminiscent of old courts and a few not too bright ones in power. Plus you have the danger and the violence and healers rather than doctors. While it wasn’t one of my favorites I’d like to see how the community is doing down the road.
I loved Heart of Silver. I just loved the wolves and how they work in this story. I also thought some of the themes are so timely. It was hot, sexy, sweet and unpredictable. This was a book that I kept interrupting myself near the end, I just didn’t want it to end. I really hope there’s more, but if not, I’ll be okay and I’m definitely rereading it. I totally recommend this book.
Loved this very interesting story of trails and wins and still needing to make your mark. The characters Mac and Blue are perfect together and make a great team in life and love. It was a long road but in the end they made it and have family and friends to share life with.
Mac is an omega, was banished and ended up making a name for himself and living with humans. Blue is an alpha and he is questioning the set of rules everybody follows. We Mac and Blue meet their chemistry is wonderful to read.
This is a super sweet story with a HEA. Their is also some violence and action. I definitely recommend this book!
I like the world building, it makes for an entertaining read. It’s awful how packs are so backwards, omegas less than alphas, treat them poorly or just plain ignore them. Mac is awesome, he is a feisty omega who defied death and came through with flying colors. He goes back home yo find Blue. Together they are a power couple, it’s not easy but they have the heart in the right place.
An interesting book the writing was okay. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters likeable. The characters were developed and thought out. Mac and Blue are the MC’s of this book. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.
I found this to be an enjoyable read. I fell in love with the two MC's while they were falling in love with each other. There are some sections of this book that I was not fond of but I was able to read through them . My favorite was probably the epilogue.
This is an interesting story. I really like this slow burn shifter romance. Max and Blue are a great characters. Their journey from friendship to more is beautiful. I like this world that Kiernan Kelly has built and made such an entertaining read.
