The Voice From 808: One Wrong Number Changes Everything

Rate this book
An untimely death, a mysterious key, and a captivating voice during a misdialed phone call take Joss's unremarkable existence in a sleepy little town in Utah to new heights. Joss never bargained the lies, the secrets, and the intertwined workings of those she trusted would create a new life for her.

In a leap of faith, Joss allows her heart to lead her down the path to discovery. Thankfully there is one person she can trust, but he is also the man she knows about the least.

Told in dual perspectives of Joss and Soren, The Voice From 808 is a contemporary erotic romance. The story answers two questions; What would happen if Joss fell in love with a beautiful, sexy voice of a man before she meets him face to face, and; Can he save her from herself?

I listened to this book on Audible! I loved it so very much, especially the storyline and the non-stop page, turning witty, romantic and action!! With my favorite, swoon-worthy male narrator, Jacob Morgan!! And, of course the super talented Ava Luca!
It started when recently widowed Joss Sloan received a phone call from area code 808 from sexy male voice Joss is a young widow, she has a Dear Joss show as a hobby and therapy.
When the random sexy wrong number call back, they start a long distance relationship. It's so funny when she tries to guess his name, then he finally tells her his name. Their long distance soon becomes each visiting each other and their relationship growing into something more. Meanwhile, unusual scary events start happening, and she also discovers her deceased husband had secrets. His business partner starts behaving unusual and suspicious.
This is such a really good story, I Loved listening to it. It brought the book to life, dual pov and tastefully written love scenes. Such a Must listen!!!

Mystery, heartbreak, & learning to love again all wrapped up into one wonderfully written story.
Joss and Soren's story is captivating from start to finish, from the banter they share, to the This is my very first story by this author and it won't be my last. I listened to the narration of this story which i though was exceptional! Jacob Morgan hit this narration out of the park! Soren, Mr. Morgan put every feeling, every emotion into playing that character! Then, the singing! EPIC.
Ava Lucas as Joss was sheer perfection! Especially during a highly emotional part of the book, her performance bought me to tears! Just awesomeness! Connor Crais, although didn't have a huge part, did excellent as well! This story was all around amazing. Kudos to Ms. Sigfusson for her spectacular writing.

Review of the AudioBook version of this story:

The narration was wonderful

When you have a good interesting, engaging read and you mix it was Narration heaven, you have a winner.
Jacob Morgan's voice was nothing short of delicious through this entire listen. He lowered that voice and mmmm it worked. On the plus side HE SINGS a song towards the end, and it's beautiful. Tack on some secondary characters with British and Irish accents and he does it all here in this duet style program.
Ava Lucas -the story is told from her POV except for one chapter, she does an excellent job. Chapter 7, *no spoilers* will just break your heart, it's actually a little difficult to listen to this flashback chapter.
Connor Crais shows up as 2-3 other characters littered throughout the story, It would have been nice to have a little more of him.

This story touched me, the loss and grief of Joss. However there was so much more to this audio, there was a lot of humor, especially in the phone calls between Soren and Joss, danger, intrigue, a bit of mystery! This book had everything.

This was an interesting one for me. I wasn't sure what to expect going into it as Sandra was an author I was unfamiliar with, but was pulled in by the narrators. It was a bit of a slow start but I didn't mind as it allowed me to get a good feel for the author's style. After a few chapters the story and pace picked up and pulled me along with it right to the end.

I was pleasantly surprised by the plot twists (and twists within twists - seriously didn't know what was going on for a while there) and found myself really enjoying trying to unravel everything. The story had a very strong ominous feeling throughout, even when it seemed like all was good and right with the world, the emotional weight of the main character's past trauma was like a heavy blanket laying across everything.

Jacob Morgan is a go to narrator for me and as usual did not disappoint. He handles emotionally charged scenes (both sexy and frightening) with seemingly effortless ease and makes us feel right along with the character. I especially appreciate his ability to do this while in duet from the female perspective where we get very little insight into the male character's inner thoughts.

Connor Crais is another narrator who rapidly became a favourite of mine. He does a great job with the side characters in this, one very fun and caring, and the other quite the opposite. I appreciate his range and the extra quality he brings to this audio, however on that note I do feel he was underutilized.

Ava Lucas is a narrator I have heard of but had not listened to. I think she was an excellent choice for the main character as she handled the complexity of Joss' battling feelings so well. The main character is trying to deal with her grief and keep pushing forward into a new relationship but her situation and the events around her keep pulling her back. Ava did a great job performing this war if emotions.

The only thing I really had difficulty with was the time jumping at the end. I'm not personally a fan of it in a story when it's solely used at the end for wrap ups in multiple jumps. I understand the need for its use maybe once to give us a satisfying epilogue for closure, however in this case the multiple jumps felt rushed and overused. The majority of the story was only the female perspective but near the end we did get a little of the male leads POV which I really enjoyed. I would have liked a little more balance between the single POV and dual. Aside from these two issues I loved this audio story and am excited to try more of Sandra's work. ❤️🎧❤️

An engaging romantic story with suspense thrown in. I liked this easy-to-read book a lot, which had an amazing beginning with regards to the meeting between Soren and Joss. Soren misdials a number and the two protagonists end up falling in love through their daily phone conversations without ever meeting each other. When they do meet, their physical connection is explosive and the writer managed to convey all the emotions of Joss, whose life had turned upside down a year ago when her husband, Michael had died. The story continues in an intriguing plot when Joss finds a key. Slowly we find out that Michael had his hand in some shady money-laundering scheme, putting her life and of those around her in danger. I will not detail the storyline here because this book deserves to be read with an open mind but the novel transcends several genres, romance, erotica and suspense thriller. The book’s language is intelligent, witty, the editing is very good, the tension points are well-paced in the book and the characters are well developed and described. Although Soren makes a very bad mistake putting their relationship in perilous danger, there is nevertheless a welcome HEA which Joss more than deserves because Soren was adult enough to realise his mistake and persist in his apology. We should all learn to say sorry. I would happily recommend this book with such novel beginnings.

Joss is widowed and started an advice podcast in order to help her deal with the sudden loss of her husband. When she answers a call from a unrecognized number, she doesn’t expect to feel drawn so much to the mystery callers voice. She takes a chance and begins a long distance romance with the mystery man. But then, as she’s going through her husbands things, as a way to move on, she finds a key. And then her life goes on an exciting and scary path she has no idea of where it will lead her.

I thought that the plot of this book sounds intriguing. A lonely widow, finding love again with a wrong number.. then getting involved in a mystery and finding out things about loved ones. But I had a hard time staying focused on this book. It seemed to move all over. I loved the characters, Joss seems like a strong character, and one that you could like. And Soren seems sweet and caring. Overall I enjoyed the book, and would check out others from this author.

Joss is widowed at a young age, and has an online advice call-in show as a way of coping with Michael's death. She gets a wrong number call from a guy in area code 808, and as they talk several times, they begin to trust each other and forge a friendship. Eventually they plan to meet. I really like this book, my second from the author. It was well written and easy to read, and I read it in one sitting. I like the characters, and enjoyed watching their friendship/romance develop. My only issue with Soren is how quick he is to run away when there's an issue/drama late in the book (sorry, no spoiler here). There are some big twists in the plot, a bit of drama/action/suspense involving people from Joss's past, and things she knew to be true that are not.

When Joss, a young widow, answers a wrong number she enters an unusual telephone relationship that ends up evolving into a whirlwind romance. Although she thought she had already met the man of her dreams, it looks like fate is offering her a second chance at happiness with Soren. But unknown trouble from her past, triggered by a simple clear out, puts both of their lives in danger and tests the strength of their unexpected union. This story was so enjoyable to read. It’s different from the start, and has an unexpected plot throughout, which keeps you on your toes and keeps you guessing til the end. All the way through I wondered if Soren was as squeaky clean as he seemed to be. An excellent story with both an interesting plot and creative characters.

This is a review of the audiobook version.

First, let's start off by saying this audio is performed in duet, and as soon as I heard the sample I had to have it. Jacob Morgan exudes sexiness with his deep, flirty voice, and with the sultriness of Ava Lucas, you have aural heaven. The banter between these two during their first few phone interactions is fun and had me laughing out loud, esp. as Ava's character, Joss, continues to guess Jacob's (The Voice) name. As mentioned in another review, Ch. 7 was heartbreaking and speaks to Ava's ability to draw you into a story. Though his character is vital, Connor's role is small, so we don't get to hear from him as much. Joss and Soren, will take you on an adventure. You'll also be treated to Jacob's British and Irish accents and, HE SINGS!!! Sandra's words + Jacob's voice = beautiful.

The Voice From 808 by Sandra A. Sigfusson

Joss Sloan has a weekly blog where she helps solve people's problems. She is currently looking for her ideal job doing interior design a year after the death of her loved one when she answers a wrong number her life changes forever. Her mystery caller is Soren Larson and they quickly develop a long distance love affair. Along the way Joss discovers her husband Michael has been leading a life she knows nothing of and all sort of twists & turns develop and a little danger for good measure.

It is a very engrossing read and has so many unexpected twists . A strange but enjoyable book not the least what I expected when I first started they book.

I received a complimentary copy of The Voice from 808 from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Great book on two levels: however I am not sure why this book needed to be a genre crossover novel. It was well written enough to make a great stand alone suspense novel without the steamy parts. The more intimate portions of the novel were also well written, but again did not need all of the surrounding storyline. (Because of this, the format of the book just felt disjointed.)

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

I really wanted to like this but----Started out pretty good but after 5 or 6 chapters i found myself skimming. The idea of the story was good but for me there was just too much that didn't need to be there or was a repeat of what had already been told. There was also kind of a insta-love thing which doesn't worked for me. It is well edited, and some people may not mind the "extra" information.

Sandra A. Sigfusson, ‘The Voice from 808’.
One Wrong Number Changes Everything.

As a Hidden Gems ARC reader I received a free copy of this book and promised an honest review. Here it is.

Rating: 3,5 (of 5 stars).

In general: Love and Suspense.

Main characters:
- Joss Sloan (25).
She lives in St. George (near Vegas) and is the host in the ‘Dear Joss Sunday night live podcast advice show’. For her it’s a hobby. A year earlier Joss became a widow. Her husband crashed on his motorbike and died in hospital.
Helping other people with her ‘advice show’ diminishes her grief.

- Soren Larsen (29).
He lives temporarily in Hawaii as a manager of a golf court. Soren travels a lot around the world to places where his boss creates new golf courts and - in about a half year - he has to train the future managers. And that’s not a job suitable for building a permanent relationship; so he’s single. The man from Hawaii is ‘the voice from 808’.

Joss and Soren communicate for the first time when Soren tries to call a girl who gave him a wrong number. Joss is immediately attracted to the deep, sexy voice of the unknown caller. An interesting, somewhat flirty telephone conversation ensues, followed by several others.
The author, Sandra A. Sigfusson, then describes how the telephone calls are the start of a real relationship between Joss and Soren. This nice love story is blended with a lot of suspenseful complications caused by unexpected secrets Joss discovered in the legacy of her deceased husband. For me that part of the story caused some questions as: why gives Joss in to the demands of a former lying, aggressive friend of her husband or why is she kind to an ex boss she disliked and why trust this man in an important oral agreement?
But all in all the book was a pleasure to read.

Holy wow! I was not expecting that at all!

You have this amazing story of a random wrong number call that turns into a flirtation and an almost instalove level long distance relationship.

Interwoven through the new love of Joss and her wrong number caller with the sexy as hell voice, is the story of a woman recovering from the tragic loss of her first love. It's been a year since her husband passed after an unexpected accident. And as Joss opens herself to new possibilities with the voice on the other end of the phone, she learns things about her husband and his friends that makes her question everything she thinks she knows in her life. There are so many twists and turns. Just when you think everything has been resolved, boom! another twist comes in. The suspense is real in this part of the tale.

This audio was narrated by Ava Lucas with Jacob Morgan and Connor Crais in a duet+ style.

Ava is soothing as Joss's baseline narration, it's mostly from her POV and I'm here for it. The emotional range and delivery of this performance is amazing. I was full on crying through parts of this story. I'm just in awe of Ava right now. I want more!

Jacob delivers our love interest Soren, the wrong number voice from area code 808. Since the performance is done in a duet style, Jacob delivers all of Soren to us as well as a few other voices. I've always been a fan of Jacob Morgan and this performance is no different. He's sweet and tender, but also dirty and raw. There is a particularly incredible moment involving an acoustic guitar accompanied serenade... I melted!!

Connor Crais gives us a few of the other male voices through the story. He adds texture and colour making the narration that much richer in my ears.

AMAZING !!!!!
I Absolutely Loved EVERYTHING About this book.
I am honestly just Lost for words of what to write because I throughly enjoyed this romance between Joss and Soren. For me it had all the right ingredients for a compelling Love story and it kept me entertained from beginning to the end.
Emotional, sweet, funny, suspenseful and full of hot chemistry and steam,it sent me on a rollercoaster of emotions, there was one chapter that I cried throughout, the emotion in that chapter just slammed into me and Sandra Sigfusson's words made me feel so much it grabbed my heart and squeezed and I purely sobbed at Joss and her heartbreak and loss.
I really like Joss alot she is the kind of character that I would love to be friends with,Soren is her ideal match after ringing the wrong number and getting Joss on the other end of the phone. They start up a friendship that soon turns into so much more.He is as sexy and as gorgeously romantic as hell..although there was a point in the book that he frustrated me and I was stunned with what he did,he left me gobsmacked, but redeemed himself completely by the end...I could never stay mad with him.
This is such a wonderful book and there is so much more to it than meets the eye I am still thinking about it today even after finishing it more than 24 hours ago.
I will definately be trying more of Sandra's books and I am so glad I took a chance on a new author to me.Because this is one of the best books I have read this year.
I HIGHLY Recommend it.

This story has such a sweet meet cute. I could relate a little to the story so that helped. I do feel like they fell in love entirely too quickly and met each other face to face pretty quickly too considering their distance. The pacing of the book felt off as well. The suspense and build up of the crazy key situation was fun but too much happened right at the end of the book. At one point the H said something very mean to the h and I almost quit the book but beefed to know about that damn key so kept reading. Overall, this was a sweet love story with an interesting twist.

Messy

This is one of the strangest romances I have ever read. Part instalove, part suspense, it really doesn't know what it is. Joss (the heroine) really is the the horror movie cliche of too stupid to live. She makes ridiculous decisions, has little agency and we get to experience every random thought that goes through her head. There are so many details that just aren't necessary to the story. From Joss wondering when her period is due to an interview that goes nowhere.

Soren starts off well, but as the tension ramps up he just crumbles. He becomes a whiny baby and he really didn't step up to be hero material.

The result is just a messy, strange book that ultimately bored me.

I AM SO MAD! NO, because I was enjoying and loving the book so much —until the moment he said to her, “You're not worth the hassle, sweetheart.” Like what?! I mean, seriously! I was already at 75% of the book! What the hell?!😡

And when Joss begged him to stay, HE STILL LEFT HER BEHIND TO FACE ALL THE DANGER ALONE?! Who the hell does that?! SOREN, you whiny f*ck!🤬 OH, AND HER TAKING HIM BACK- I am so DONE😑 Girl, how f*cking low can you go?! HE. LEFT. YOU. WHEN. YOU. NEEDED. HIM. THE. MOST!

This book had so much potential, but that last 25% was incredibly unnecessary😑 Honestly, at this point, I would be much happier if both of them had ended up dead🙂

This review is for the audiobook. I love a good "wrong number" story that catches you right from the beginning and isn't cheesy. This story is sweet, sexy, fun & has the unexpected mystery w/stellar performances! Joss has experienced a significant loss in her life and tends to be a people pleaser. Even thought she is a people pleaser she is finding her own and moving on in a healthy way. Soren is everything I like in main male character. He's self sufficient, sex positive, outgoing, fun/funny, and just plain refreshing. Narration is done in duet, which is excellent!

I liked the premise of this - a wrong number leading to a relationship, with the added suspense of a side mystery. Unfortunately, I didn't feel this came together well at all. Joss was all over the place with her emotions and thoughts. Soren was... kinda awful, actually? He came across as really manipulative, bitter about her dead husband (get over yourself, dude), and flakey af. The mystery was resolved in the most bizarre way and left me super unsatisfied and with more questions than were ever answered.

I've been reading so many heavy books lately, a good love story was exactly what I needed. Sexy without being trashy, romantic without being cheesy, and a page turner. I found myself doing the "just one more page" line often.

Hoopla audiobook. Great mix of romance humor suspense narration by female and male both were very good. Handling of crime and criminals unrealistic and (Joss part just plain stupid). After the crime supposedly ending the story fell flat
