If it means protecting a little boy and his pregnant mom.
After months of searching, security expert Ryker Tillman finally finds Olivia Habush and her young son—just as they are attacked by armed mercenaries. Now safeguarding Olivia, her unborn child and little Aaron is the former special ops soldier’s new mission. But to save the family burrowing into his heart, Ryker must figure out why someone wants them dead…
Guarded by the Soldier was an okay read. If I could have looked past some unbelievable aspects, I would have enjoyed it more.
I felt like the characters kept getting found by the bad guys and then escaping, over and over again. It was just difficult to believe.
All in all, I didn't enjoy this book that much and it is not one I plan on rereading.

In this book we see Ryker protecting Olivia, the widow of one of the men who were after the MC from the first book, from the same group. At first there is no clue why they're after her, but after one of the men gets subdued and questions he mumbles something...which made me think I knew the reason and I ended up being right.
I thought it odd the bad guys always seemed to find them, pretty quickly too, but after finishing the book have an idea why.
Not as good as the first book, but then I love a reconnection story.
"Guarded by the Soldier" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. Ryker's girlfriend and her daughter were killed while he was away at war, so now he's determined to save Olivia and her son. Olivia's husband and brother had become criminals who were killed by Ryker and friends in the last book (though this book works as a standalone). She's hiding from the mercenary group that they worked for, and Ryker finds her right before the mercenaries do. Olivia no longer cared for her husband as he treated her badly. She falls in love with the compassionate, considerate, and handsome Ryker. He stunned by her beauty (even though she's in late pregnancy), which further endears him to her.
There was suspense from the mercenaries repeatedly tracking them down because they wanted something from Olivia. The problem for me was that we never learned how they kept tracking Olivia down. The good guys went to extreme lengths to prevent themselves from being tracked, and they never figured out how the bad guys kept finding them. But they also didn't spent much time trying to figure that out. The ending sequence also didn't work for me. One guy wanted what she had (though circumstances should've clued him in that she wouldn't have it on her), but what he did was attack her like he was trying to kill her. Shortly afterwards, the good guys simply believed a bad guy's claim that the main bad guy was dead and also assumed all of the mercenaries had gotten word to stop attacking her. So they left her unguarded. It just seemed like the good guys suddenly had to make stupid decisions so the bad guys could have one more chance at her.
Olivia was a new Christian and prayed to God. Ryker didn't like that God had let his girlfriend and her daughter die. There was no sex or bad language.
I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
A great suspense story that will leave you hanging on the edge of your seat as things unfold in the story line. I love a good story that will make the hairs on the back of my neck rise up in anticipation. Laura Scott does a fabulous job with this book. It was so good that I couldn't put it down! It was over before I knew it! More please! Great characters go along for the ride of their life time as they try to figure who wants them dead and why. Loved loved it! I highly recommend this book! A fabulous read! My thanks to Harlequin and Netgalley for a complimetary copy of this book. All opinions are my own!
A truly remarkable book. I really enjoyed reading this book.
Laura Scott wrote an incredible book with great characters and I loved how Ryker felt he needed to search out Olivia and her small son and help keep them safe and how his friends helped him without any hesitation at all.
Another wonderful story from Laura Scott. Very fast moving and enough intrigue to make it hard to set aside. Laura has a wonderful way of dealing with emotions and trusting in God.
Prayer is most important,, every Day. Coming in to cover her while in the midst of someone trying to kill her,, left Ryker feeling that God was in control and all of Family was his..
Ryker Tillman was willing to give his life for his country in Afghanistan. Now, with his own security country, he is willing to lay down his life for the lives of pregnant Olivia Habush and her toddler son Aaron. Olivia knew that her husband was working for some really bad guys, but she had no idea that after Tim died, his legacy would be danger for her and Aaron. Pursued by the relentless killers from Blake-Moore, Olivia has nowhere to turn until Ryker shows up and rescues her. All of the action was like a movie rolling in my head, with one heart-stopping scene after another. Ryker called in his buddies from the war, the Callahans and Duncan. They offer a little comic relief and a lot of help to Ryker and Olivia. Throughout the book, no sooner do she and Aaron get out of danger than a fresh group of mercenaries shows up to force her to give them something that supposedly Tim left with her. The ride through this book was wild and fast-paced, but best of all, it was all a totally clean ride, with no expletives or graphically described violence. My only criticism is that the book was such a fast read that I was surprised when it ended. That’s not to say that I didn’t like the conclusion; I just didn’t want it to end! This is an action packed romantic suspense and another fantastic read from the Harlequin Love Inspired Suspense series.
Olivia Habush is on the run, not from the law but from an organisation both her husband and brother worked for before they were killed. She has no idea why they want her but she’s determined to protect herself, Aaron, her young son, and her unborn child. She was feeling settled but then someone tried to kidnap her. She was rescued by another stranger, Ryker Tillman, a stranger who knew her name and about her situation. Should she trust him? When they return to where she’s been staying they make a discovery which makes it imperative for her to start running again, but this time Ryker is going to endeavour to keep them all safe, using all his knowledge as a security expert and some friends he trusts to protect them and to help discover just why the mercenaries are after her…..
This is a real page turner with great characters, lots of dangerous situations and a heartwarming romance, too. I found it an engaging read that I really didn’t want to put down until everything was resolved and have no hesitation in highly recommending it to anyone who enjoys this genre! It is a story where faith and prayer help guide the couple in their quest for safety and where her unborn child could make an appearance at any moment to add to their worries!
I requested and was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest review after choosing to read it and thoroughly enjoying doing so.
Ryker Tillman was on the team that brought Olivia's late husband and her brother to justice, he follows his instincts, offering his protection to Olivia Habush and her son from mercenaries hot on their heels.
Fast paced, with great characters and relationship building, with a layered plot that had me on the edge of my seat. Olivia and Ryker were both people that I could cheer for throughout and I love how they both grew in their faith, and have supportive friends in their lives. I admired Olivia, she is courageous, her new faith is tested, and she is an excellent mother, fighting to keep them safe.
Ryker has been a lone wolf for a long time, but he fits right in with Olivia and Aaron. Aaron is an adorable 3 year old, and he takes to Ryker almost instantly. I admired Ryker's determination as well as his honesty with himself and willingness to take on new adventures.
I loved the intensity in this book, there is so much going on, and the plot kept me guessing, it was far from straightforward or predictable! I loved how this story builds on the backstory, but doesn't revolve around it, it instead expands on it, making it simply a jumping off point.Yet this high action energy is balanced with tender moments of faith, love, and friendship, which is one of the reasons Laura Scott is one of my favorite Love Inspired authors.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Guarded by the Soldier. This is book two in the Justice Seekers Series. I really enjoy Laura's books so I'm always glad to get one in the mail. This story is no exception; it's well written, action packed, and full of faith. I know you are going to love it.
Widow Olivia Habush is in hiding from a group of ex-military men called the Black-Moore Group. These men turned her husband and her brother into monsters. Now thirty-four weeks pregnant she's leaving work to pick up her three year old son only to be attacked by one of these men. They have found her again. The man's hold is broken by a stranger. He claims to be here to protect her and her son. How can she trust him?
Security Expert Ryker Tillman has finally found Olivia and her son. He has been searching for them the last six months. He's shocked to see her very pregnant belly. He manages to rescue her and takes her to her home to get the boy only to find one of the men had killed the nanny and is holding the boy. He manages to get the boy released but is shot in the process. They run for the Shawnee National Forest to hide. Can he keep them safe? Why are they trying to kill Olivia and her son?
A terrifying journey to stay one step ahead of the mercenaries. God has a plan for these people, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. Give Him your heart and make Him Lord and watch Him protect you through this crisis.
This second book in the Justice Seekers series, is a clean suspense romance that will keep you on the edge of your seats from the first page to the last. Olivia’s deceased husband had changed to a man that was greedy, and uncaring once he returned from the war. Now working as a mercenary, his job, not his family became his first concern. When he’s killed and his former employees come after her, she flees with her son. A difficult feat since she is also pregnant. Six months later, she continues to be in danger and clueless as to why the evil men are after her. Unbeknown to her, Ryker was partly responsible for her husband’s death . He’s been keeping an eye on her and when he sees the danger is increasing, he makes it his duty to keep her safe. While running from the men, feelings develop but one believes he’s there just as duty, while the other believes Olivia’s feelings are because he has rescued her more than once. This is a touching story , with an engaging plot, bad guys, good guys , and complex characters, that will keep you wanting a HEA ending for Olivia and Ryker. But will they survived the danger and the bullets? Can’t wait to see what else the author has in store for us. I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Harlequin. The opinions expressed are solely my own.e
Olivia who is eight months pregnant, along with her toddler daughter is on the run once again when a stranger grabs her and says that he isn’t there to hurt her, he is there to help her get away.
Ryker, an ex soldier is determined to keep Olivia and her family safe from the mercenaries that are after her. He vows to go to whatever lengths he must to find the people that are hunting her and stop them once and for all.
Olivia and Ryker are trying to escape the mercenaries that are trying to retrieve something from Olivia. The problem is, Olivia has no idea what they are after. Her husband had been a criminal and now Olivia is paying the price.
Along with Rykers friends, they keep dodging the mercenaries, but they are getting closer and things start getting dicey. Will they outrun the people hunting her and figure out what they are after in time?
This story twists and turns and leaves you in suspense on every page. I loved how brilliantly Laura Scott writes and has you hanging on every word trying to figure out the mystery of the story. It was a fabulous book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you so much to the author Laura Scott, Harlequin and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book to review. It was fabulous! All opinions expressed for this review are unbiased and entirely my own.
After having reviewed Copycat Killer (True Blue K-9 Squad Brooklyn #1),I was happy to be invited to review Guarded by the Soldier.
Ryker Tillman is a security expert on the hunt for Olivia Habush and her 3 year old son Aaron. There's an extra challenge in store for Ryker but can he keep his feelings at bay? Olivia is heavily pregnant at the time so his safeguarding them is more important than ever if they are to get out of this alive.
Guarded by the Soldier is part of Harlequin Love Inspired Suspense line. It's a Christian romance/ suspense novel.
A quick paced book with romance, high stakes action tender moments difficult decisions, religion and good attention to detail to really make you feel for Olivia and Aaron. One of my only criticisms was that it ended too soon.
Thanks to Laura Scott and Harlequin Love Inspired Suspense for my ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
5 stars,
Guarded by the Soldier is the second title I have reviewed by Laura Scott and I really want to check more of her books out. I know that it's rhe second book in the Justice Seeker's series and I do now feel that I really want to know what happens in the rest of the series.
Ryker Tillman is a security expert who has his own reasons for spending months trying to locate Olivia Habush and her young son Aaron. Right when he finds them they are facing an assailant. Not only is Ryker prepared to do whatever he can to protect Olivia and Aaron, his concern is increased tenfold due the fact that she is pregnant with another child.
Olivia lost her husband and brother when they took on the lives of criminals. Their deaths do not seem to be enough as it seems someone would rather see her dead as well. When Ryker steps in there is no doubt that Olivia is not sure that she can trust him. After all, who is he really? How was he able to find them?
Although this book is just a little over two hundred pages, the author manages to fit in an excellent storyline that is packed with intensity, danger and romance. I loved Ryker and Olivia together. While their tension was palpable so was their attraction to one another. I hadn't read the first book in this series, but had no problems at all following this story. I am, however, hoping that this series has more to offer.
Many thanks to Love Inspired Suspense and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
3.5stars Guarded by the Soldier was a quick clean romantic suspense. For the most part, I enjoyed the book. It is the second in a series, but the great things about these is they hold up well as stand alone books. I liked both Ryker and Olivia. Olivia and her son are being pursued by men who want something from her and Ryker ends up helping them. There was an added level of danger since Olivia is 8 months pregnant. I won't give too much away, but the book opens with Olivia in danger and doesn't stop until the end. Check out the excerpt below to read the opening scene. I do recommend this one.
This is so intense, my heart racing from the get go and it keeps going until the end, I finally can breathe easily in the epilogue. It's a fast-paced suspense read with a lot of actions, there's romance but it's only a small portion, the suspense is the main attraction here. A woman on the run with a toddler and her unborn baby, thank goodness there's Ryker to help and protect them from the bad guys. Yup there's a lot of actions, mystery and suspense that makes this book can be devoured easily in one sitting, a bit sweetness that put a smile on my face, so for me it's definitely a MUST-READ for anyone who's looking for a fast-paced suspense romance read.
I love Laura Scott's books! They are full of suspense, action, and heart. Why would someone be after a pregnant woman and her young child? Olivia's husband was a member of a mercenary group. When he is killed she goes into hiding, but her husband's bosses want something from her. Ryker Tillman is a security expert that "has a feeling" about Olivia being in trouble and locates her just as the action all begins. This was book 2 in the Justice Seekers series. Looking forward to the next book!
I love suspense and Laura Scott dishes out a lot in this story. A pregnant woman with a toddler running from a group bent on ending her life, throw in an ex soldier intent on keeping her safe and you have a fast paced, action fueled story. Nicely done.
*My thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book via Net Galley. The opinion here is my own.
Omg my Rykers story just shredded my heart. I love how Laura Scott pairs these strong hero’s with even stronger heroines. I love how Rykers protective nature came out instantly for Olivia and her unborn child plus her son. I also Love love love how Laura Scott keeps the Callahans involved. I love seeing how Mike and Marc are doing.
Great surprise for all readers! At 85, I still love learning and each book of Laura Scott comes with a beautiful heart and message in it! You have to read them all to get them!
This was a wonderful story, a lot of adventure and a book hard to put down. Great Story. I have read stories by this author before and each book was great......
This is the second book in The Seekers series but can be read as a standalone story. Having said that, I will be g0ing back to read the first book as I did enjoy this one. In this story we meet widow, Olivia Habush and her three year old son Aaron who are on the run. After the death of her husband and her kidnapping by mercenaries that he worked with, Olivia has managed to remain in hiding for a few month, that safety she has started to become used to vanishes in a moment. Rykker, an ex-soldier has been looking for her after coming upon her house and realizing she and her son are missing. He tracks her down just in time. What follows is a harrowing adventure alluding the group that is after her. She needs to figure out what they want as well as keep her son and soon to be born baby, safe.
This is a quick read with lots of action. Olivia is not a victim. She has fought for her little family's safety and will do whatever it takes to keep doing that. She is a smart woman who uses that to save herself on a couple of occasions. She is also pretty physically fit for a woman who is 8 months pregnant. She is also vulnerable for love and caring, after what she has been through. Rykker is a swoon worthy hero. He is handsome, caring, loyal and determined. He wants to save Olivia and Aaron at any cost, and begins to feel deeply for them both relatively quickly. Aaron is a child too good to be true. He has his moments, but he is so well behaved that I wanted to give him a hug myself. He wanted to be with his mommy so badly and definitely wanted the baby to be a little brother. There were a lot of strong, strapping heroes in the story, a double cross that I was expecting and unfortunately a few dead bodies along the way. This is also a faith story. Olivia continues to pray that God show her the path he has for them, and that he give Rykker the knowledge and strength to save them. I recommend this one to those who enjoy a Christian Suspenseful Romance that has a HAE. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.
Olivia, eight months pregnant and with her three-year-old Aaron, has been on the run for six months. She married her brother’s best friend. They were both soldiers, but when they came back from the war and joined a band or mercenaries they changed. Her husband was no longer interested in the family. He’d become more interested in money. When he was killed, Olivia became a target for the mercenaries including her own brother.
For six months, she’s felt safe, but one day on the way home from the church, she’s grabbed and forced into an alley. Luckily Ryker, an ex-soldier, has been watching her. He intervenes and convinces her that she has to run again. Although she doesn’t want to trust another soldier, Ryker begins to earn her trust.
This book is filled with suspense and violence from the first pages. It moves quickly and keeps your attention hoping Olivia and Ryker will escape. Although this is a romance, there are no sex scenes and there is an emphasis on Olivia’s religious background.
I liked Olivia. She’s a fighter. She’s been on her own for six months and had to fight off one attack on her life. She’s attracted to Ryker, but she doesn’t immediately fall into his arms. She’s cautious where she gives her love for a second time. Ryker is also a good character. He wants to take care of Olivia and has feeling for her, but he doesn’t push her.
If you enjoy a romance filled with action, this is a good one.
