Surprising second chances

Rocky Mountain Dreams by Danica Favorite

The last thing Joseph Stone expects to discover upon arriving in Leadville, Colorado, is a newfound little sister. Hoping to find his late father's silver mine and keep his siblings back home out of an orphanage, Joseph needs an ally. Annabelle Lassiter agrees to care for the little girl. But Joseph's quest for silver could cost them a more precious dream--one of family, love and new beginnings.

Family on the Range by Jessica Nelson

A ranch in the Oregon desert gives Mary O'Roarke the solace she craves. Concealing her growing feelings for her boss, government agent Lou Riley, is a small price to pay. When an abandoned little girl is placed in Mary's care, it's a reminder for Lou of his own loss. But if Mary won't give up on young Josie--not even when danger approaches--then Lou can't give up on this unlikely family.

A self-professed crazy chicken lady, Danica Favorite loves the adventure of living a creative life. She loves to explore the depths of human nature and follow people on the journey to happily ever after. Though the journey is often bumpy, those bumps are what refine imperfect characters as they live the life God created them for. Oops, that just spoiled the ending of all of Danica’s stories. Then again, getting there is all the fun.

I have always enjoyed reading Love Inspired books. This one has the added bonus of two stories in this Historical Classics book.
I am doing a review on Family On The Range by Jessica Nelson.
There is a lot going on in it. An abandoned child,a woman with a not so good childhood who uses her faith to find inner strength, a government agent who lost a child and wants to do right by this one now and danger. Danger is around every corner and behind you but Mary uses her new found strength to keep the child from harm's way.
Written with compassion towards those weaker than ourselves.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book. Thank you.

An abandoned child, a woman with a painful childhood, a government agent who lost a child. All together are good ingredients for a poignant and very interesting story. Mary O'Roarke has been Lou Riley's housekeeper a while, so why hasn't he noticed her warm and caring nature, not to mention the huge dose of courage. Even when danger threatens, and it's a big danger, Mary is determined to protect the young child Josie. There is a lot to like here, full of danger and love. Recommended.

My thanks to the author for a copy of this book. The review is my own opinion.

This review is for the second novel in the book, Family on the Range by Jessica Nelson. I will go back and update my review after reading the first one.

There is a lot to this story: human trafficking, child endangerment, race relations, women's rights, and even Native American injustices. Weighty topics, to be sure, but the author does a good job of integrating them into the story and helping the reader see how it impacts the characters, and by extension, the reader.

Our relationship with God is also explored with some depth, especially where He is when things are difficult. I appreciated the contrast between the main characters, one of whom had found God after unthinkable situations, and the other who had turned his back on God after a different event, no less excruciating. Healing from these wounds looks very different based on how the person viewed God after the pain.

This is an overall uplifting read with relatable characters and a fascinating romantic suspense storyline in an historical setting. The story feels like it could have been taken from today's headlines about human trafficking and Nelson gives us a solid novel about what a woman is willing to do for a family of her own, especially poignant because of Mary's own upbringing and the pain she has endured. I recommend it for readers in high school and up given some thematic elements; though it remains clean, there is a knowledge of what is being threatened against Mary and Josie.

I received a review copy from the author, but was not required to post a positive review. The opinions expressed are both honest and my own.

Rocky Mountain Dreams
This was a great story. Annabelle was so caught up in her grief that she built a wall around herself and wouldn’t let anyone in for fear of getting hurt, and her dislike of silver mining caused her to mistrust all miners. Joseph was just trying to find his father’s mine to be able to support his brothers and sisters. He was not prepared to learn the truth about his father or to find that he had another sister. I loved how the author was able to have the characters work through these things and learn to trust and forgive. I would recommend this book.
Family on the Range
This was a really good book. I loved the character of Mary right away, and I learned to love Lou, and Josie was a delight. Both Mary and Lou have had sorrow and difficulty in their past. I liked the way the author showed the difference of one turning to God and the other turning away from God because of this. There was a lot of mystery and danger, also. I cried through the last few chapters. (That is always the sign of a good book.) I would recommend this book.
I received a copy of this book from the author and was not obligated to write a positive review.
