Helpful book for those stages of depression that we MSers get, but also for anyone in need of some ways to lift your spirits. I like to read Montel because of our connection to MS. It's like being able to really talk or listen to someone with MS who really understands what we go through daily. I actually think I'll buy this one and keep on had for those days that aren't so good for a pick me up.

In the opening chapter, Montel Williams opens up about his health conditions which brings him down a path of depression. The way he wrote it, it was as I was there, and felt or understood what he was undergoing esp. after a heart attack. He later goes on an interview and didn't want to focus on a celebrity that died named Heather (sorry I have no clue who this is as he stated), preferred to talk about the Iraqi soldiers who passed. We are overlooking those of importance, for ratings instead, but he would know best since he had talk shows, even lost his show, for his boss to make more money from it all.

The parts expressed by professors and/or experts to determine happiness, I skimmed thorugh, and didn't work for me really. I liked the part on journey of the soul, since I know it takes more than mind/body to work on but also emotions and soul or spirit. I agreed with some of the comments mentioned in this section how a spiritual connection is greatly important to experience JOY, PEACE, and HAPPINESS. I know I have to meditate and saturate in the WORD to overlook EVIL, and those who insult you, etc.

It was an okay read for me. I hope this book helps or ministers to those going through an emotional breakdown, depression, PTSD, etc.

Disclaimer: I borrowed a copy from the C Library to read and give my honest opinion.

Easy to read guide for diminishing depression symptoms- small chunks of advice, heavy on the peer reviewed research. I found the chapter on CBT most interesting.

Everywhere I go I look for books. It was no different at Cititrend where I found this one. I started to put it back. I thought it was about the expensive juicer that he has promoted on the infomercial. Boy was I wrong.

I'll be the first to say that I wasn't ready for Montel Williams to be as open. It was refreshing to read about his ups and downs in the Military and on TV. He was also candid about how multiple sclerosis affects him individually and emotionally.

I learned a great deal about his career, his health and how he fights daily to control his body and the way the illness attacks. He spoke about how many individuals with MS contemplate suicide.

Although he knows that the disease will eventually take his vision, his strength, balance, speech and his memory...he acknowledges that he has crying spells but has much to be grateful for...that he can be emotionally well! He acknowledges that he has a wonderful family and support system, colleagues and business partners.

Although he has a support system he realizes that he has to guard against depression. He boldly states that he gets to determine how depressed he'll be..... He has actually put a different spin on a celebrity having an illness such as MS.....and a different spin on successes and failures. He goes on to talk about the side effects of medication.

Montel has come to grips with where he is and his illness. Episodes of depression will again rear its ugly head for him as it does with us. He, like us, will, at that time, have to dig deep and remember that the seeds of happiness are everywhere and that he can live well emotionally.
