While Alex was trapped in a hospital, Professor Marzio scattered her friends across the zones, making it impossible for them to wage war. When she finally gathers her ragtag army, it pales in comparison to the enemy, but Alex isn't just fighting against this external threat, she has a time bomb ticking in her head—a cancer so large that it's affecting her in game. As time runs out, and the clash of steel echoes across the battlefield, Alex must make a terrible choice that will change the fate of the Hundred Halls forever.

I know I say it each time I get to review a book in this series, but I really don’t get why it’s called “Gamemakers Online” when there’s no actual game-making going on. That said, I thought this was probably the best book in the series. It had action, it had character interaction, new beasties to face and obstacles to surmount, it had plenty of laughable snark from Sorrow, and plenty of going against long odds, and not to mention revisiting characters seen over the entire series, answering a whole lot of questions, and, yes, an ending! We finally hit the concluding book!!!! Like I did with the other books, I did page ahead each time it hit stats *yawn*. And I skimmed when it hit anything to do with the army and war battles. I’m just not interested in anything having to do with the military. A lot of the time is spent obsessing over all of the little details of their army, from trying to grow their numbers, to training the infantry, to trying to supply, and get the supplies for their armor and weapons, and feeding the army, etc. So much of it is spend on tactics and strategy, and the minutiae of it ultimately bores me. Alex continued to be emotionless through most of this book, even during the scenes with Nayiri who’s supposed to be her girlfriend (though there was one scene she actually showed emotion, which I did adore!). And like in the previous books, it just says she uses this spell and that spell without actually describing what the spell looks like when it’s cast or what it does (other than cause health point loss), or what it looks like when it hits the target. I still adore Sorrow. I love his humor and snark and he’s just a fun point of view in each scene he’s in, always willing to give his two cents even though it’s usually either dark, bleak, irritable, ironic, sarcastic, or just plain off-color. The ending I thought was perfect. It wrapped up everything nicely (and might actually set up for another series?)
This has been an awesome LitRPG series from the start and in this final book we get the ending we all deserved. Alex has spent her summer in a coma and she is being prepped for surgery when she wakes up, her cancer has reached dangerous levels but she knows that surgery would definitely kill her so whilst her mother seeks out the doctor, her nemesis Dr Marzio to proceed, her friends help her escape and get back in game. Alex sees this as her only viable option and she sets out to save her world online if not for herself at least for her friends in game. I love the way Alex and her team show courage in the face of insurmountable odds in the war to come against Marzio, better know in game as the King made of Midnight who is doing his best to oust the Patron and take over the game completely. They train and fight and do their best to tackle quests which help them advance so that they have a bit more power available on the final day of reckoning. The black Pyramid is intriguing and mysterious and adds more spice to the story. The characters of our team of heroes have become well known to us throughout the series, and they seem like friends now, my favourite being Reggie. I love the final battle and the ending to the book is something really worth waiting for. Enjoy this amazing series, I know I really did.
First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
Over the past year it has become apparent that my reviews are somewhat antagonistic and I apologize to those of you that have taken offense. I think I had hoped to change peoples’ minds about reviewing works of art and that seems to have backfired spectacularly. However, I am still going to be true to myself and write what I believe.
To the author: Thank you for this chance to escape reality and enjoy the world you created! Keep up the good work.
To my fellow reviewers: Messaging me and reviewing my reviews is as productive as trying to shovel water out of the ocean. Stop. I get it. Let’s just all live peacefully.
To potential readers: Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
Pythia, Chantal, Miranda ... fully shaved headed girls are becoming a series staple!
"But decided it had to be the wind creating the illusion of a creature" - yeah, no, young people are, in actuality, the ones inclined to believe something is off and research it, unlike old people, so it's weird for a 17 year old to act like 67 year old in this instance. (Yes, she aged in the first book, then it was retconned she didn't, so she is 17 forever, woo!)
"Leaning against the tent". Girl, no you don't.
Aside from the consistant tiny logic errors, the HH saga is super engaging and thought provoking! Now, onto the next Hall and shaved headed girl...
This is a wonderful conclusion to this amazing series. The characters are amazing and were wonderful to follow on this journey. The plot and story line are amazing and suspenseful filled with lots of action. I have enjoyed every moment of reading this series. Highly recommend reading!
I read a complimentary advanced copy of this novel and this is my honest voluntary review.
A rollercoaster ride of twists and turns that you have whiplash by the end of the ride. A great dialogue of a swan song to this series. Thoroughly enjoyed and hope you take the time to read this one. Action packed and fast moving this kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading. Received ARC copy and this is my honest opinion.
Wow what a way to end the series! Alex and her friends have one last adventure which could change every they hold dear. Go on this last journey with Alex and be prepared to be amazed. This was such an exciting journey to have been with Alex and friends during the past books. Do yourself the favor and read this series. You will not be disappointed.
I’m really gonna miss these guys! Exploring this type of world was extremely entertaining and being a gamer myself, I loved every bit of it, and though I’m very sad that it’s time to explore a new hall, I know the next one will be just as fantastic as the previous halls. Never stop writing Mr Carpenter ❤️
Fairly decent conclusion to the game arm of the hundred halls. I really like how it ended, with possibilities for more stories in a similar though different vain, very good way to end it there. I really liked this series as a whole, while I had issues with some of the gaming aspects of the whole world, it still made for a great story, and one any gamelit fan should enjoy.
Alex faces the fight of her life for her own life and the lives of her friends. Read on to discover the outcome. I think you'll find a surprise. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did and plan to do again.
What a stunning finale for the Gamemakers Online series! Alex is such a kickass heroine. Her friends are perfect for her, a mix of all personalities. Don't miss this series! Keep churning out so the awesome stories, Tom!
Was a good series to read, I am a very active reader of litrpg and this was worth the read. Good layout and story and a good ending, yes it ends and not left open which is a nice touch. Closure is important for me.
