This book is basically the literary equivalent to a Nazi Antiques Roadshow.

Very good quality colour photographs of uniforms & insignia, headgear, field gear & equipment, firearms, edged weapons, medals & badges, documents & papers, children's toys - including figurines of Hitler, Rudolf Hess, Ernst Röhm, soldiers & combat vehicles (even a baby's doll chillingly dressed in an SS Uniform), and miscellaneous Items like pins, belts, gorgets, banners, watches, an SS eagle crested violin, a Hitler Youth trumpet, a candle holder, a briefcase and coat hanger, and the impressive SS Totenkopf Honor Ring made out of high silver.

Most items I believe were put out on display and photographed by the author himself, who is an avid collector specifically of authentic SS material. (Apparently he's been duped on a few occasions with fakes and frauds). Quite rightly, he points out that this book is not intended to glorify the actions or memories of SS atrocities, it is simply a photographic record of SS history for those who are interested.

Fascinating stuff.

I read (or rather looked at) this book for research purposes for my writing. It is an excellent resource, not necessarily because of the amount of information it contains, but because of the detail. There are close up photographs of many of the items, rank insignia and particularly badges, pins and medals, but also of firearms showing manufacturing stamps and the like. Items are usually photographed, front, back, sides, top, bottom and interior if applicable. The detail is superb, even to the point of being able to tell the order of stitches in fabric! There is also a section on documentation with very clear illustration of the text. Each item photographed is accompanied by a full description and a brief history if required. I highly recommend this illustrated book for anyone who needs a close up look at SS uniforms and associated items, plus, it is simply interesting.
