Marco the flamingo has always wondered why birds always come to his part of the world at a specific time of the year. He takes it upon himself, and against his fellow birds advice, to fly North to discover what drives these large crowds of friends to visit him yearly. What happens when you put a flamingo in the middle of winter? Read this title and see just how much trouble one flamingo can get in.

I loved this book about a curious flamingo desperate to learn more about the mysterious world of snow. When Marco is no longer satisfied with the explanations provided by thos birds who flew south for the winter, he decides the only way to learn about snow is to go see some himself.
The story is funny and light, and the illustrations are magnificent. The bright colors and animated faces are bound to keep younger readers interested- I especially enjoyed the suprise illustration at the end of the book.
My mom is a Kindergarden aide and is looking forward to bring this book into school to read to her class at storytime.

I used this story for a snow and ice themed Spanish story time program. I also used it for the respective bilingual story time program as a Spanish story. I like using books that have both English and Spanish alongside, so I can have more options when it comes to bilingual story time (I can decide to do it in Spanish or English).
This story would work well for a theme about different kinds of weather or opposites. I used the Spanish version of Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? with this story for the snow and ice theme because 1). both have--or relate to--snow (polar bear) and 2). both have a flamingo.

This is a cute little book about a flamingo who decides to be migratory and go north for the winter. The story is rather simplistic, but the illustrations are full of color and life, although the expressions on the birds can get a bit too cartoony at times.
I received this book for free through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program.

I liked marco's sense of curiosity more than the book itself. I would probably give it a 3.5 if that were an option. I do however appreciate bilingual books just because of the flexibility and range of options they provide me as
A bilingual teacher. I would use this book for read alouds.

OK...there was something just cool about this book. First, Marco decides not to fly south for the winter, but to camp out for the winter. Nothing like teaching a kid it is a good thing to be Second, the book is both in Spanish and English. This is the first time I have seen this and loved it.
