Keith Joseph: A Single Mind

A biography of the man often described as the thinker behind the Thatcher revolution - the politician who might, if events had turned out differently, have become Prime Minister himself. Reviled by the left, he is also admired and respected by many on both sides of the House.

This I think was suggested via reading another book but it's been so long since I ordered and finally got around to finishing I can't recall.

This was a pick up and put back down book for almost a year. It clearly didn't grip me that much. It is dry and whilst discussing an important individual in the creation of Margaret Thatcher its not all it could be - maybe its the era it's from.

We learn about Keith Joseph being a dedicated MP who intellectually was ferocious which many, particularly his political enemies simply could not understand. It is clear he cared deeply for the people of the nation and certain media personalities and papers tried to shamelessly take that away from him by knowingly misrepresenting him to great personal hurt of Joseph.

It is interesting to note that after nearly 15 gruelling years of front bench work in opposition and government it was the left wing incongruous teachers, their extremism to just fight regardless of the benefit for the children (sounds familiar doesn't it? Covid?) just because he wasn't in labour. Very telling for that particular group of public sector workers. Very telling.
