The boss's secret...

Prospective employee Eve Copeland looked too buttoned-up and prim for the tough world of Australian big business. But somehow, despite her obvious disapproval of him, the vulnerability that Drew Forsythe had glimpsed beneath Eve's cool, professional exterior had got under his skin. Before he knew it, he was offering her the job.

It was the career move Eve had dreamed about. But she couldn't help but have suspicions about the reason she'd been hired. Playboy Drew Forsythe did, after all, have a secret to hide. A secret involving Eve - and one he would go to any lengths to conceal....

Margaret Way

Margaret Way was born and educated in the river city of Brisbane, Australia. Before her marriage she was a well-known pianist, teacher, vocal coach and accompanist, but her hectic musical career came to a halt when her son was born and the demands of motherhood dictated a change of pace.

On a fortuitous impulse she decided to try her hand at romance writing and was thrilled when Mills & Boon accepted her first effort, Time of the Jacaranda, which they published less than a year later in 1970; a feat that brought tears to her father's eyes. Some seventy odd books have followed resulting in a loyal readership whose letters provide a source of support and encouragement. A driving force in all her writing has been the promotion of her much loved country, Australia. She delights in bringing it alive for her readers; its people, way of life, environment, flora and fauna. Her efforts so far have not excited official recognition, but she expects one day she will be awarded the "Order of Australia."

Her interests remain with the arts. She still plays the piano seriously, but her "top Cs" have gone. She is still addicted to collecting antiques and paintings and browsing through galleries. She now lives within sight and sound of beautiful Moreton Bay and its islands, inspiration for some of her books. Her house is full of books, spectacular plants, Chinese screens and pots. She is devoted to her garden and spends much time "directing the design and digging and providing cold drinks and chocolates."

Not one, but two truly terrible OWs: the hero's glam ex-wife is one, and the other is his luscious stepmother...yuck!

Thankfully, the hero couldn't care less about those two wannabes. He is one thousand percent besotted, obsessed, loyal and faithful to the heroine. And why wouldn't he be?

In an ocean of perfect Mary Sues, Margaret Way always lays it on the thickest and her creature here is not to be rivaled: blond, beautiful, intelligent, classy, modest, hard-working, loyal, fashionable, sexy, and dare I say it?...a virgin!

Will remember this one for Stepmom Dearest gouging holes in the newspaper with her talon-like nails because it featured a sensational photo of the happy lovebirds.

Fantastic!

This reminds me of the movie Working Girl but without the charm or the humor. The fault lies with the heroine; this one’s pretty much a stiff stick.

Her whole big fat Australian life was ruined when her father left her mother for a teenager. Yes, Ratfink City, but he did try and maintain a relationship with his children. Unfortunately, the mother never could bounce back, and the heroine is forever damaged BECAUSE SHE, LIKE ALL HP TYCOONS, has found out that the opposite sex is damned forever. Except for her little brother of course.

The hero is a winner as many of Margaret Way’s heroes are, but the heroine is stuck believing everyone but him. By everyone, I mean his ex-wife who wants him back and actually asks the H’s besotted stepmother to help bring down the heroine. In fairness to the heroine, she saw the H in a potentially compromising situation with his stepmother, but he is the one to address her concerns

It was nice that the heroine is ambitious and as good at her job as she is, I just wish she had a personality.

Family drama, the H putting his Rico Suave moves on her and vowing eternal devotion, and the heroine finally squeaks out an, “I love you.”

I don’t know why but I couldn’t warm up to the h. She comes across so cold.

The h has a childhood trauma. Her dad walked away with a younger woman leaving his family behind. Her mother never got over that. When the h was 20 years old, her mother dies in a traffic accident. The h have been taken care of her younger brother, who now is a medical student, ever since. Because of what her dad did, the h has trust issues with men.

The H is a wonderful man. Very loyal, very caring, very sweet and of course rich and handsome.

Because the h seems so cold (in my opinion), it’s not a quite steamy romance no matter how much sex they have. I have read HP books in which the h and H are only kissing and making out that are far steamier than the sex scenes of this H and h.

And yes, this h is blond too. As in 99% of the HP books. In the other 1% most h’s are redheads.

Some disconcerting head-hopping/pov swapping in this, especially towards the end, and a weird tell not show vibe in places but I still enjoyed this boss/exec asst romance. Eve is ambitious, upright and intelligent and this H, the exceedingly hot sounding Drew, accords her respect in this all the while trying to get her to come to him. She has hangups based on her parents divorce and mother's subsequent decline and unsurprisingly does not trust this divorced, highly sought after alpha. The first time she meets him he appears to be in a clinch with his father's much younger wife (the OW). The way the h handles everything was, I thought, mature and relatable (although I would not have been as compassionate) and Drew is your typical "not really getting it" semi-gaslighting bloke. I will look for others by this author (this was my first MW).

This is a fave.

Maybe because it centers around the work environment and the characters are compelling. Give it a try. Margaret Way is one of my favorite romance novelist.

Cewenya pekerja keras baru berumur 24thn,pinter banget, karir cemerlang,
tp dia ga percaya cowo soalnya bokapnya ceraiin nyokapnya pas dia umur 13thn hanya utk menikahi wanita yg
umurnya setengah umur bokapnya.

eh si janda alias ibu tiri cowonya gangguin hubungan mereka berdua gara2 ibu tirinya ini jatuh cinta ama anak tirinya, sedangkan anak tirinya ga sadar sama sekali.

kalo endingnya ya tau sendirilah pastinya happy ending donk

I read this some time ago but never wrote a review. This is one of my favourites from Margaret Way simply because of the oh so classy heroine.

The heroine is a smart competent career woman who can hold her own and won’t take any s**t from the OW.

Left important issues unresolved and a mystery to me since I could not figure out what the secret was. No mention of her reconciling with her father and yet one of the bridesmaids was her half-sister although no mention of her father, mother or step-brother being at the wedding.
