This is the 3rd novella in the Greenland Missing Person series available from Amazon Unlimited. There are only 105 pages, but it presents a complex mystery plot.
Constable Petra was sent by plane to escort a prisoner being moved to another location. After dropping him off at his destination, she becomes stranded at a remote hotel during a raging blizzard.

"Petersen writes chilling thrillers in harsh, isolated environments. Too dark for some. Too cold for everyone."

While staying at the hotel, the bored Petra meets a group of American travellers. She learns that these hotel guests stayed at the same hotel a couple years earlier and that a man from their group went missing during a snowstorm. Petra decides to occupy her spare time trying to discover what happened to him. Each one of these assorted travellers has a secret connection to the missing man and may have had a motive to kill him. The inquisitive and determined Petra sorts this out in true Agatha Christie style, but not before finding herself in mortal danger.
The novellas in this series are enjoyable fast-paced reads and am looking forward to the next Petra adventure.

Still cozy in the chilly Greenland setting. The main constable’s boss is sick of her being an upstart so sends her off to do a prisoner escort out whoop whoop. Naturally a missing persons case falls on her lap. This is the first suspected murder case in the series. There was a touch of whodunnit but clues were sparse. It was more of a travel story for me, with a missing person thrown into the mix. I will continue to the next one.

This is a little bit different from the first two books. At 137 pages the story has more space to breathe. Petra is on her own, this time and she's set up for a perfect Whodunnit - trapped on an island by a winter storm in a hotel where the only guests are her and six Americans who were all present two yours earlier when the seventh member of their group went missing.

Petra, whose on the island to transport a prisoner to the mainland, finds herself interviewing each of the Americans in turn to find out what happened to their companion and quickly suspects that she may be looking not for a missing person but for his murderer.

I loved that Petra wasn't suddenly transformed into a super-sleuth but instead struggled to know what to ask and what to make of the answers.

The mystery was a clever one and its resolution involved some intense action as well as clever investigation.

I liked that it was Petra's empathy, her ability to suspend judgement and her knack for building trust that led to discovering what had really happened.

In this short but entertaining novella, constable Petra Jensen inadvertently (it was supposed to be an after dinner game of sorts) ends up being asked to find out what happened to an American tourist that disappeared two years previously. This installment is different from the previous two as it is something of a cold-case whodunit, as well as finding the missing person. The group of USA tourists makes a rather bold and interesting contrast to the Icelandic characters. Beautifully written with a positively frosty and cold Greenland setting.

I always wait for Christoffer Petersen's books and I have a great passion for Petra Piitalaat Jensen because she seems to fall into different situations with great ease. The Shiver in the Arctic The Shiver in the Arctic by Christoffer Petersen seemed like an Agatha Christie novel with a twist. She's sent to bring back prisoners and when she goes to the island of Uummannaq to bring a prisoner back and meets several Americans. She says that she will help them determine what happened to Justin Moon who went missing 3 years before in a kind of who done it style. You need to read it for yourself to get all of Christoffer's descriptions of each person involved with the case, plus what Petra does.

Constable Petra Jensen is sent to collect two prisoners , the first she brings back from Tunu ..Then setting off for Ilulisat for the second ..But upon arrival the artic storms have arrived and she has no option but to stay at Hotel Asiaq until the weather changes. It's here that she meets a group of rowdy Americans..who were on the same flight. They tell Petra they have been returning for the past two years since their friend Justin Moon,an insurance broker vanished..At the time the search party found no trace of him ,and intrigued..Petra decides to investigate in her own time ..But in this harsh, freezing place Petra will have to be on her guard ....for this is a place of secrets and lies ..Book three in the series sees Petra rising to the challenge ...alone in the freezing east coast ...A Chilling Read ...

Shortish but complete

This is my first Petra book in the series that I have read and at first I wasn't sure I was going to like it. Couldn't see where it was going. Reading the prior ones would probably have helped and I plan to do that next. Once the investigation into the missing person began though it amped up. I like the Greenland setting as I know nothing about that area and it is great to be learning a few words of Greenlandic. Wish they came with pronunciation hints so I could work then into my everyday vocabulary. 😜. I like the character of Petra and look forward to getting to know her better. Good writing and great story!

This is one of the longer of Petersen's Greenlandic novellas. The shorter ones are interesting character sketches. This one approaches the intrigue and depth that you see in his full-length novels. JIt features Constable Petra Jensen as the protagonist. It is very good story reminiscent of the works of Agatha Christie. It can be read as a stand-alone book. If you have not read Petersen's work and want a short book to get your feet wet, this is a good place to start.

Missing Person?

On a routine prisoner transfer, Petra finds herself on an island with some stereotypical American tourists, who convince her to investigate a missing persons case. A case that soon turns out to be more than meets the eye.
It is a good story line with a good mix of mystery and cultural enlightenment.

Awesome!

Great read, so good I had to go back and read the first few. (You don't have to read this series in order, but it helps) The writer is new to me , but what a pleasant surprise. The short novellas are like potato chips, you can't read just one! Try one out today, you won't be sorry.

I’m hooked

I’ve read the first three Novellas starring Petra Jensen and I’m falling in love with Greenland and the empty vastness of the country. Can’t wait to read more adventures in the series. Beautiful evocative writing and wonderful characters you’ll either love or love to hate.

A welcome change of pace ..

My trust in detective stories renewed ... No extreme gratuitous violence, including no salacious, tiresomely explicit sex ... strangers or families ... Wow. This is #3 of however many Petersen has, I am on my way to read them all .. Absolutely charming, and spare .. 80 or so pages.

Read the prequel first

Having read the first three novellas, I am enjoying this series so far. I just wish there was a pronunciation guide at the beginning for some phrases, names and locations.

I'm reading Petersen's novellas set in Greenland as much for the geographic setting as anything. They're pretty good, not great, but good for a quick bit of entertainment.

Brilliant who-done-it!

Brilliant who-done-it in remote closed location against the background of Greenland, which itself emerges as a key character in the story.
