A free holiday on the Atlantic coast is too good an opportunity for Izzy to turn down. But soon after she and Ramesh arrive at the opulent Cova Negra Hotel, it’s clear there’s something unusual about the other guests.
When the body of a beautiful young woman turns up on the private beach, Izzy discovers that there's darkness lurking behind the luxury. A shady organisation with a violent past, a string of robberies and an unexpected celebrity guest make getting to the truth even more difficult. As she (and occasionally Ramesh’s cats) begin to investigate, she finds that no one is quite who they seem.
With bodies piling up and the police baffled, Izzy must face her most savage adversary yet. But how can she catch the killer when each suspect is more duplicitous than the last?
Writing has always been my passion. It was my favourite hour a week at primary school, and I started on my first, truly abysmal book as a teenager. So it wasn’t a difficult decision to study literature at university which led to an MA in Creative Writing. I spent a long time writing kids’ books, including funny fairy tales, dystopic adventures and serious issue-based YA, before switching to murder mysteries last year.
I grew up in a crime fiction family and spent a long time dreaming up the idea for my detective Izzy Palmer’s debut novel. A Corpse Called Bob is my first full-length book for adults in what is already becoming a long series.
I’m a Welsh-Irish-Englishman originally from South London but now living with my French/Spanish wife and slightly muddled daughter in Burgos, a beautiful city in the north of Spain. I write overlooking the Castilian countryside, trying not to be distracted by the vultures and red kites that fly past my window each day.
Another will written British 🏰 romantic family and friends relationships murder mystery adventure thriller novel by Benedict Brown (The Lizzy Palmer Mysteries book 3). Lizzy and Ramesh take a vacation in Spain at Ramesh's uncle's hotel. It is off season and Ramesh is put to work in the hotel. Lizzy finds a woman's body on the beach 🌴. There are only a few suspects. Two more people are killed. Lizzy finally works out who is the killer. Lizzy and Ramesh head back to England. David's trial is over. He has been sentenced to ten years and is breaking up ☝ with Lizzy. I would highly recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of mystery novels 👍🔰. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to Alexa read books 📚. 2023 👒😊😡
Izzy and Ramesh are hoping to enjoy a holiday at Cova Negra Hotel on the coast of Spain. The hotel is owned by Ramesh's uncle and this is basically a practice run prior to the official opening. While enjoying the private beach one morning, Izzy sees something that immediately spoils her day - the corpse of a young woman buried in the sand. There are only a limited number of people at the hotel and all of them seem to have plenty of secrets they want to hide.
The local police are familiar with Izzy's history of solving murders, but do not seem interested in her providing any help. Not to be discouraged, Izzy decides to conduct her own investigation. Everything gets much more complicated when a guest becomes a second victim.
Who killed the girl on the beach? Why was she killed? Who killed the guest? Were they both killed by the same person? Can Izzy sort through the lies and secrets to uncover the truth?
Benedict Brown has created another wonderful Izzy Palmer mystery. He has a unique way of adding humor along with plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader engaged clear to the end. I would actually like to meet Izzy Palmer in person!!
This is a rather entertaining series that is somewhat spoiled for me by a few annoying features, most prominently Izzy's truly inane attitude towards men. It reminds me of a 14-year-old. It has a nice cast of characters helping Izzy with her cases. Think of her as somewhat of a British Stephanie Plum. WARNING: DO NOT read this book if you have not yet read the first book. It will COMPLETELY spoil that book for you.
This is the third book in the series, and the characters are becoming tiresome. Izzy's Mom and Ramesh are both just over the top. I need to take a break from Izzy Palmer.
Poor Izzy Palmer. After solving three murders and then having to testify for the prosecution against her boyfriend for the first murder. After all, she did solve it. Following her testimony she is very distraught and David tells her that she should not attend any more of the trial. So Izzy sets off with her best friend, Ramesh, for the coast of Spain to stay at a resort owned by his uncle. Upon arrival they discover there are only a handful of guests in attendance, and practically no staff. Uncle Kabir puts Izzy up in their swankiest suite, Ramesh is shuffled off to the servants quarters and is put to working cleaning rooms, waiting tables and serving as a bartender. Izzy tries to make the best of the situation and starts using her inquisitiveness on the few guests. They are not a very savory lot and none of them are what they claim to be. Then Izzy discovers the corpse of a young women on the beach. She is not a guest, but she is a local. Everyone seems to know who Izzy is so they all expect her to solve the case. She works (on the sly) with one of the officers on the case. Two more deaths happen, her mom and her former neighbor, who has finally professed his love for her, show up in the disguise of an actress/celebrity and her bodyguard. After much carrying on and investigating, the culprit is named and all parties go home. David's trial ends and Izzy opens her new business and all is ready for the next installment of Izzy's adventures. Although murder and mayhem are there, so is quirky and fun. Izzy's internal monologues are quite entertaining all on their own. I can't wait to see what she gets into next.
A luxury hotel in sunny Spain sets the stage for a pseudo pacifist fascist movement led by a charismatic leader to be at the center of murders, lies, and betrayal. Fortunately, Izzy and best friend Ramesh are around to give a hand. Ramesh gives a hand around his uncle’s hotel as Izzy tries her hand at getting permission from the police to stick her nose into the investigation.
This is good whoddunit fun boasting a cast of full blown characters and the added plus of Izzy’s inner dialogue for comic relief. Recommended.
(The only unexplainable thing is the early reference to a prior murder that Izzy apparently solved. It makes you wonder as the reader, “Did I miss a book?” You didn’t. Let it hang out there in the wings of your mind. It has nothing to do with this story.)
Izzy and Ramesh take a vacation to Spain (to keep Izzy's mind off David's trial). It is a hotel owned by Ramesh's uncle and is quite extravagant. Just what Izzy needs...a bit of sun and relaxation...except there's a dead body on the private beach. As Izzy works to figure out who the killer is, a whole lotta other things happen. With Ramesh as her sidekick she starts to put the clues together. I love Izzy's character and she gets even funnier as the books have progressed. Ramesh is hilarious and I want him as my best friend. And the other characters...her mom, Danny, her dads, Dean and all the others that sneak in to help her put clues together are wonderful and I can't wait to get to know more of them! Highly recommend!
Izzy’s latest mystery is in the spirit of Agatha Christie’s classic holiday mysteries such as Evil Under The Sun or Death On The Nile. This series just keeps getting better - maybe the most intriguing case and group of suspects yet, while Izzy and co are great as usual with some excellent character development, and some hilarious moments. A new Izzy book should be a ‘drop everything and read’ event for mystery fans. And if you’re new to the series, start with ‘Bob’ and work your way through - you’re in for a treat.
I don’t usually enjoy modern murder mystery’s - I have been drawn in to this series whilst waiting for the next Lord Edgington. I love a good country house murder! And was upset when I read my last Miss Silver book. Thank goodness for modern authors who write in a similar way like BB! But the Izzy Palmer books are good fun and I have been enjoying reading them. I like the characters, the situations and the lack of anything too gritty. I’ve only been able to solve 1 out of 3 though - and that was more of a guess!
Disparate characters with no apparent commonalities collide in an exotic resort locale (thanks to an invitation from Ramesh’s uncle) as Izzy encounters a lovely, but quite deceased, young woman as she attempted to read her Agatha Christie tome on the beach.
Then, a second death shatters the quiet, as the Spanish detectives try to figure out who and how and why.
Izzy needs to take a break from the stress in London, so Rajesh (her very good friend), strangest them to stay at his Uncle's upmarket hotel. A selection of visitors from Europe are also staying. A brief relax for Izzy, before she is plunged into another murder. I enjoyed this one, I enjoyed the way Izzy works it out and love the humour - particularly her inner voice/ brain. Recommended 😀
This is the most ridiculous of the series so far. More time is spent on over the top comedy and entertainment than telling us about the guests, there's no depth to the characters. The series would be better if Izzy's entourage didn't appear in every novel - even when she goes on holiday! Izzy talking to herself gets annoying very quickly, as does her distraction with attractive men.
This is my third Izzy Palmer novel. With the first I thought the characters over the top. The second I appreciated that they were in the background. After this book I’ve come to love them like family. Thank you Benedict Brown for this and the Lord Edgington series. They are very different but I love them both.
After solving anther murder, and her personal life in turmoil, Izzy and Ramesh head to his uncle's hotel in Spain for a much needed vacation. Nothing can go wrong, right? Wrong. Izzy once more finds herself investigating a murder with a multitude of interesting suspects. This is one of Izzy's best mysteries.
I am really loving reading about Izzy and her yup..., goofy friends. These stories written during Covid are just the type to get us through as it continues on. They are fun "who done its" that make the day enjoyable. I've been reading other books by Benedict Brown and really enjoy his style of writing!
Benedict Brown’s Izzy Palmer Mysteries just get better and better. I have to admit that I’ve now read three in three days, they are impossible to put down. Izzy and Ramesh take a holiday at Ramesh’s uncle’s resort hotel in northern Spain and of course murders, yes plural, occur. I’m off now to get book 4.
The plot is complex and convoluted. Not a plot a leisure reader will figure out. Izzy had a usual successful end to her mysteries but a very sad personal finish. In the end, Izzy seems to he getting her life on track with her new career and future.
An entertaining murder mystery with really unique characters. Dizzy stumbles along through mysteries having loads of interesting theories with help from family and friends. Odd family, odd friends that combined are comical
The 3rd Izzy Palmer Mystery and another enjoyable read! If you haven't read the 1st two books, you must read them in order otherwise there are spoilers and references you won't understand. I really enjoy these books as they are fun and easy to read.
I enjoy this style of mystery. Not weighed down with pages of sex, violence and profanity. Just the right amount of humour. They always keep me guessing to the end.
This is another great Izzy Palmer story. The story is well told and the characters and the setting are wonderful. I am anxiously waiting for the next book!
I love this series. I have laughed out loud so many times. The Characters are fabulous. Can't wait for the next book and looking g forward to reading the novellas.
