Cataclysm #5

Anyone But You

Rate this book
She hates me.

And who can blame her?

I haven’t exactly given Cataclysm’s new assistant any reason to like me.

Our first meeting is a disaster—I thought she was a groupie. She didn’t appreciate the compliment. And it all goes downhill from there.

I make it my job to be an asshole, to make life on the road for her more difficult, all in an effort to get some kind of reaction out of her other than the polite, cool mask she gives only me. To make matters worse, the band has deemed my partying to be “out of control,” and they make her my babysitter too.

But partying gets old and doesn’t fill the hole I need to heal. And needling Viola stops bringing me any pleasure, especially when I see the real effects of my behavior.

When she finally lets her guard down, our chemistry is electric. All I have to do is convince her there’s more to me than the playboy rockstar she first met.

But they say first impressions last forever. And maybe I really am just the asshole she thinks …

I am a huge fan of this author. I have been avidly reading her books as fast as I can. She has a way of creating characters and setting a scene that makes it and them come alive and jump from the pages. This was true in this book, and yet, I also felt a disconnect from the characters at times.

The book started a little slower for me in regards to connecting to the characters. However, as the story progressed and I started to understand both Mason and Viola, then I found the groove. I think a large part of this is because I was a little put off by Mason and his actions. Yet, without those, it would have been hard to build an enemies to lovers story. It was fun to watch as this relationship progressed and these two come to terms with their feelings. The old saying is true about there being a fine line between love and hate. The way Mason acted out at times reminded me how when the little boy picks on the little girl in grade school and it isn't because he hated her but rather because he liked her but was scared to show it. That is Mason and Viola in a nutshell. Once I started connecting with the characters and seeing Mason grow as a person I was all in. I needed to understand the reasons behind his actions of why he acted the way he did. At that point, he might have stolen my heart. And Viola, yeah, I just loved her. I realized my hard time connecting the characters, in the beginning, was because, even though I love a bad boy, I wanted her to not have a bad boy if that makes sense. She deserved something good and wonderful. I am not even sure if that makes sense. I got my wish in the end because Mason was truly wonderful.

Even though this was not my favorite of this series or by this author, I would still highly recommend anything that she writes. There is just something special about how she puts pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard.

"This is going to be one hell of an enjoyable ride. But I can already tell that the come down when its over will be intense."
Anyone But You is Mason and Viola's story and what a story it is!
Viola is Blaire's cousin and is replacing Blaire as Cataclysm's new personal assistant.
A case of mistaken identity means Viola and Mason don't get off to a great start and Viola has a terrible first impression of Mason.
After that first night of the tour Mason feels rejected and decides that he is going to make Viola's life on tour that much harder by being the playboy as***le the world thinks he is.
Tour life and close proximity means that feelings are heightened and more intense.
Calling a truce Mason decides that what he is doing is unfair to Viola and decides that they should be civil but Viola wants to be friends.
"Can I overcome giving her the worst first impression in the world"
But by being friends Viola gets to know the real Mason not his rock star persona and they grow closer until they cant be just friends anymore.
Can Viola and Mason overcome their personal issues and be what they need to be for each other and stop letting other people interfere into their lives.
I loved Viola and Mason's story, with reading the other Cataclysm books you get small peeks into what Mason is like and now to have his book has not disappointed you get to see the real him and how sweet and caring he is to his Cataclysm family.
I received an arc of Anyone But You and I am voluntarily leaving my review.

Viola is looking forward to the opportunity of handling the Personal Assistant duties for the band Cataclysm as it will give her the independence and distance she needs. She has enjoyed meeting the band however when it comes to Mason their first meeting did not go well and it only seems to be getting worse.

Mason is the drummer of the band who is struggling not only with the loss of the woman he thinks he loves but the fact that as his bandmates find love he is feeling alone. After his first meeting with Viola he is determined to take his destructive behavior to new levels.

Viola does not like the effect their friction is having not only on them but on the band as well. When she suggests that they spend time together and get to know each other they may just find out that the sparks of animosity may just turn into a fire that neither will want to put out.

Very cute and fun!!

I got hooked in while reading a few chapters in a bully anthology, Bitter Taste, and had to go all in!! Viola and Mason have instant mutual attraction. But their first encounter goes all wrong when they both get the wrong idea and both refuse to explain themselves and just continue to go about their business without clearing the air. That is their pattern for the majority of this story. I didn’t read the other four previous books, but as a stand-alone it was very easy to piece things together and also get a feel for the other characters.
This seemed like it was about getting closure for Mason who came across as the odd man out when his arrangement with band mate Aaron and former PA Blair (cousin to Viola) comes to an end when Aaron gets back together with his high school girlfriend. It did something to him. Once again making him feel like everything he was, was never good enough to be chosen first. Again, this tidbit of information is given numerous times throughout the story.
This was well written and a lot of fun. Very low angst, given the subject matter of a hard partying musician trying to get past his own inferior complex. I’m a stickler for my own self imposed rules for what I’m looking for in a romance read.
Mainly, when the two main leads meet and have a instant attraction I want them to only have relations with each other. Not the case here at all. Mason feels rebuffed by Viola when she refuses to get swept away in his sexiness on their first meeting. So he continues to get bjs in public spaces and have sex with groupies in his dressing room for weeks after meeting and wanting Viola. I know this is an enemies to lovers story, but he couldn’t just keep it in his pants? Does Viola have any smexy times with other guys? Of course not!!! But thankfully we never get details, just side remarks. Still annoying tho!
But even though that usually kills my attraction to the hero, I still really enjoyed this story. It was fun. Even though Mason had a lot of hang ups and I probably would run for the hills, Viola who had a lot of sweetness and a fiery streak to her, was his perfect match!!! It’s a good slow-burn and good conclusion for a series I’m sure is just as much fun as this book was for me!

I was so excited that we were getting a book full of Mason because in previous books he is such a likeable guy, loyal to his bandmates, and always there when they needed him to be. I had hated the way Blair had threw him away, but she knew deep down they were never meant to be a couple and even though I hated it I was glad that she would not string him along. Mason was a sweetheart and thought what he had with Blair was special so when she ended things, he went kind off the deep end with partying, girls, etc. Until his run in with the band’s new assistant, Viola. At first these two butt heads and cannot stand each other, but Viola stands her ground and does the work she needs for the band and tries to ignore Mason as much as possible. Eventually Mason gets wise and realizes he actually does not hate Viola but has this serious attraction to her and now he has his work cut out for him trying to woo her. I loved everything about Mason and Viola especially them together and one would think it would be awkward with Blaire being Viola’s cousin, but it is not as Blaire found her happily ever after with someone else. As the story continues my heart hurt for Mason and the things his parents said and done to him that led to his insecurities. I also hated how Viola’s parents tried to control every aspect of her life and she would not stand up for herself. They had an amazing chemistry and a lot of insecurities to work through, but I loved every second of it.

After Blaire leaves Cataclysm she feels obligated to help the band hire a new PA so she recommends her cousin, Viola, who is stuck in a boring dead end job that she hates. Mason who is on a bender since Blaire left him thinks that Viola, his new PA, is a groupie so he doesn't make the best impression the first time they meet. And his continuing downward spiral doesn't lend to a good working relationship between the two of them. But Mason has always been pushing her buttons and he can't deny his feelings anymore.

I really really struggled with this one. Mason was a giant douche canoe and I don't think I ever saw any redemption. Yes, he saw that he was a jerk and decided to change his behavior but he was so awful and douchey and it felt like such a light switch that it didn't really feel authentic to me. I didn't like Mason at all. And with Viola I struggled too. I really struggled with the fact that she is Blaire's cousin and they both sleep with the same guy . . . yeah no for me. But I tried to move on, pushed that to the back burner. Viola at first put up a good front and I liked how she didn't take Mason's shit but she caved and I felt like she caved too soon. Ultimately these two got to me and I got choked up during their conflict but it was a struggle for me for a good chunk of this book.

4 1/2 Stars for this brooding drummer and his PA.

Viola was bored of her very boring life, until her cousin Blaire offers her her old job ... the PA for the band Cataclysm. Viola jumps at the opportunity to get away from her controlling mother. All the band members and their girlfriends are great and welcome her with open arms ... expect Mason. Mason knew he was being an a$$hole toward Violet, Veronica - whatever her name was ... but did she really think she could replace Blaire? Not in his eyes! And there’s that fine line again ... you know, the one between hate and love.

Viola is just so sweet and just wants to please everyone, nothing like her cousin Blaire. At first I just wanted to give Mason a swift kick in the butt for going out of his way to make life miserable for Viola ... but he grows on a person. Mason just wants someone to love him ... for him. I laughed so hard the first time Mason and Viola meet and he thinks she’s a groupie. And the steamy scenes are ... well VERY steamy! A great addition to the series. I presume this is the end of series because there has been a book about each band member. Either way, it’s a great series and I highly recommend it!

Mason finally gets his book and I am not going to sugarcoat things, he positively irritated the heck out of me for the first few chapters. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that he felt she was rejecting him when he mistakenly thought she was a groupie, but he acted like a petulant child for awhile. I was ecstatic when he came to some realizations on his own and started changing his ways.
Viola is shy and happy to be on tour with Cataclysm, but after their first encounter, Mason makes it extremely difficult for her. She doesn’t understand why he hates her so she suggests they become friends. As they spend more time together, he finally tells her he wants to be with her and asks her to let him show her he isn’t who he portrayed himself to be.
Their chemistry is off the charts. Their hatred towards each other, although warranted, lasts longer than it should have if they would have talked. Both have issues in their past which makes it hard to trust and when an overheard conversation is misunderstood it threatens what they were building.
Enemies to lovers at its finest, if you can get past Mason’s attitude and read the book. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest, voluntary review

I have been waiting for Mason's story! Mason is the last of the Cataclysm's single band members. Mason Gray is the drummer for Cataclysm and if you have been following the series, you know he had his heart broken by Blaire, the band's PA and now he is spiraling spectacularly.

Viola is Blaire's cousin and she is taking over temporarily as the band's PA. When she meets Mason in person, he mistakes her for a groupie and everything spirals. Viola doesn't want to him to think she is a groupie and pulls back, Mason thinks she is rejecting him and makes it his mission to make her life miserable.

From enemies to lovers, this romance has all the feels. The broken rockstar and the shy girl, they are finally on the same page and become friends. The more time they stay together the more their feelings develop to more than friends. Their story is so sweet and just what I wanted for Mason. He has had such a sad life and was always on the outside of his relationships, you just want him to have his own love story and he finally got it.

I received an advanced copy for my honest opinion.

I Really, really, really enjoyed this book.
I think this one for me has been my favourite of all the Cataclysm stories Mason just stole my heart, from seeing his character change from badboy, manwhore Rockstar to a vunerable and sweet thoughtful guy turned my insides to goo..and made me swoon.
The woman who caught his attention was Cataclysm's new PA rookie Viola she is the cousin to their former PA Blaire.
Mason and Viola's relationship has a very rocky start so much so they act like they hate eachother Mason really pushes Violas buttons, but what starts off as enemies turns into a gorgeous Love story, and it is riveting to read.Mason and Viola are the perfect combination their chemistry is electric and they both have issues with controlling parents, they are just meant to be together.I honestly could not put this book down and Jerica Macmillan's writing was perfectly descriptive and had me transfixed from beginning to the end...Sexy, Romantic and a total page turner,
I Absolutely Loved this book and this whole series it is a winner.
I Highly recommend

How can you tell the difference between a good author and an absolutely brilliant one?? Read this book and you will experience the work of an absolutely brilliant author! Why? Because Jerica McMillan has the reader thinking that Mason is an complete jerk at the start - completely based on his jerk behaviour! - but, by the end, has Mason doing a complete turnaround and you can't help but completely love him!! But even while you're not liking Mason so much, you are enjoying the story and Viola and the other Cataclysm family members so much; that there is no way you will stop reading until the very end.
Mason has some difficult demons to battle and so does Viola. Their chemistry is explosive and, when they finally get together? Be warned, your kindle may just melt. Overall, this is a story of believing yourself to be enough and to be worthy of the best love of your life. I'm sad to get to the end of the Cataclysm series but have really enjoyed reading all their stories. Jerica continues to be a top favourite author of mine :)

I'm waiting for Mason's story quite a while and I am so glad for him that he finally get his own happy ending. Mason is so broken from his family and Blair but deep down he is a good guy who want to be loved. Viola has been a good girl for so long but I think her parents isn't different from Mason's though. Mason and Viola attract to each other from the beginning but they fight it and I think Viola is more mature than Mason on that part because she handles Mason well enough. On the other hand, Mason is like a boy in kindergarten who like a girl but doesn't know how to get her attention so he keeps pulling her hair instead. I enjoy their banters but I like it more when finally they get together. The story is well written, the plot is a bit intense with Mason's background but steamy with Mason and Viola's encounters so If you like to read a steamy enemies to lovers romance with rock star's attitude, I recommend this one.

Cataclysm is heading back out on the road again and Anyone But You gives us Mason, the drummer's story. Mason did not see eye to eye with the new PA Viola who has taken over for her her cousin Blaire. He's hurt by Blaire and can't seem to come to grips with how everyone in his life is in a relationship and he's still single living the rock and roll life while making a PR nightmare. Viola is a strong, sweet girl and is trying to deal with Mason in a professional way. From their first encounter, I didn't like Mason one bit, but oh how he's grows in life and on me. I loved how his relationship with Viola turns from fireworks to a friendship to so much more. Mason and Viola's chemistry is sizzling hot. I love this band and enjoyed very triumph - professional and personal that they celebrated!!!

Anyone But You is a good read read. Mason is the drummer for the band Cataclysm. He had a thing for Blaire, their PA, but she's found love elsewhere and has left the band. Blaire's cousin, Viola becomes the new PA. Mason is out of control. He's drowning women and alcohol. He kind of a jerk and I really didn't like him much at the beginning of the book but I know he was a good guy and just needed to find his way back. Viola left a job she didn't like to become Cataclysm PA. Everyone is welcoming except Mason. He's pretty rude to her and she takes way more than I thought she should from him but she does have times she stand up to him. I loved when Mason finally started to get his stuff together and show Viola the person he really is. At times I was frustrated with both characters (more so Mason) but they had reasons for how they acted and their story was good.

I was pretty disappointed in this book. After I read the annotation I was sure I was gonna like this book more, however, that wasn't the case at all.

Throughout the book Mason is a dick to Viola and she tries to keep it all together and do her job. If he's not doing one thing then he's doing something else to piss her off as well as others.

Then he decides that he is gonna improve his behavior towards Viola and in the end they end up together. Blaire helps them understand one anothers point better as well as Aaron has a chat with Mason.Viola meets up with Mason and they live happily ever after.

All through out the book the scenes felt pointless, especially towards the end when they forgive each other too easily. It felt too unreal to be honest for my liking.

Anyone But You
By Jerica MacMillan
Main Characters: Mason and Viola
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
5 out of 5 stars
This is Cataclysm book 5 about Mason the drummer, and Viola the band's new PA. I have read 4 or 5 books by this author and she never disappoints. This was an enemy to lovers' story and in the beginning, Mason acted out like a young kid with his animosity. Mason definitely was not at his best in the beginning but he changed and I loved the two of them in the end. Contemporary romance with a HEA ending. I look forward to reading more books by Jerica MacMillan.

Mede for each. Chemistry galore

Beautiful rack star story. Mason had so many things dealing with in his personal life and he had to to go out and perform for the fans with a happy face. So many entertainers go through similar circumstances. Meeting Viola has helped his to face his fear and he helped her to face hers too. They are ment to be and compliments each other beautifully. I enjoyed every minute of the book. After reading it I really it was the last book 5 so I'm definitely going to read the others 4 I hope reading the last before the first won't spoil the fun. Can I suggest that all the books are shown in a series once you click on one of them.

The Cataclysm series just gets better and better. Mason and Viola story commands the stage of your mind and heart. Mason made me want to pull my hair out just as he had me drooling like a fool.

I love the pace of the story. It's is like watching a beautiful bridge take shape. You have lots of surprises and moments you grab the reader a tad bit tighter.

It's got all the stuff that makes a memorable rock star romance and an ending worthy of an encore or two. I received an ARC for an honest and voluntarily review.

It feels like I have been waiting forever for Mason’s book. It was so worth the wait. I have loved every book in this series but I think this one has to be my favorite. Mason comes off as a bad boy but he is really a very sweet and thoughtful guy. Viola is also very sweet and she just wants to do a good job. These two are perfect for each other. I loved reading their story and seeing them figure out the same thing but it took them way longer! This is a great addition to this series. So so good.
Mason is living the rockstar lifestyle and when he first meets the bands new assistant he doesn't make a good impression.
Viola can't believe how Mason treated her when they first met but it only gets worse.
He is trying to wind her up and its working, that is until he takes it too far.
The chemistry between them is electric but when they give in it gets even hotter.
Can it last with his past or will he break them apart before then.
So much drama with some really hot scenes and so much love.
Loved the ending.

I absolutely loved this story!
Mason and Viola’s story was fantastic! Viola is Cataclysms new PA, but Mason thinks she’s a groupie which leads to a rocky start for these two. Mason was a jerk to Viola. Over time their feelings change. They move from friends to lovers. They were just what the other needed. Family drama causes them problems and pulls them apart. Will they be able to work through their problems or will they end their relationship?
I love the Cataclysm series and this one was a great addition! I can’t wait for Jerica’s next book!

Mason story is worth the wait. I love all the band members of Cataclysm after hearing their story and Mason is no exception. He is the life of the party and lives the Rockstar life especially with the groupies. That is exactly what he thinks Viola is when he sees her. What he does not know is she is their new assistant. Viola cannot help but notice Mason. He is sexy, cocky and a Rockstar. He is also her boss. These two will have to form some sort of truce is they plan on touring together. What neither of them realizes that they each want more than just a friendly truce.

I really loved Mason's story. But he did annoy me with his reckless behaviour and they way he treated Viola and the band he works and plays music with.
I get the title anyone but you, as who would think you could fall for a rock star who is so reckless and uncaring about others feelings.
But then again he is insanely hot and he makes Viola so hot.

I really liked it in the book how the more time Mason spends with Viola it makes him change for the better.
Not just with her, but with the band too.
He wants to be a better man because of her.

I have really enjoyed this series. Although I feel each book can be read as a standalone book, I have enjoyed getting to continue to connect with previous characters as they too continue to develop and grow. With that being said, I really enjoyed Viola and Mason's story. Jerica has a talent for bringing her characters to life and pulling the reader in, making her stories something that just about anyone can connect with. Like all her books Mason and Viola's story is full of angst, humor, romance and great chemistry. Definitely worth reading.

Good

Another good story. Mason is a good guy most of the time. I feel bad for him for what his parents put him through. No parent should do anything like what they did to him. They are selfish parents and bad examples. Viola needed to set her mom straight a lot earlier than she did. Her mom needs to but out and trust Viola to know what is good for herself. I hate parents like Mason and Viola have. I am glad that they are finally getting things worked out. Thank you, I enjoyed this story.

Bad boy turned sweetheart!! Wow, I'm not sure that I have ever changed my mind like this about a character during the course of a book before, but I certainly did with Mason in Anyone But You! Mason start off as the most disagreeable character I have ever read and does a complete 180 and makes me fall in love with him! I love Jerica MacMillan's books, so much and this is another great addition to her book list! I loved Mason and Viola's story and can't wait to read it again!!

Mason is having himself an epic pity party, though, he really shouldn’t. He’s a successful rocker banging groupies left and right, back to back. All because he’s got daddy issues and women keep not picking him. I wonder why?

Viola is his new assistant he thought was a groupie.
His bad behavior continues relentlessly and Viola keeps taking it, it’s her job.

I’m not sure if I ever warmed up to Mason and wasn’t sure if Viola was the right match for him as she was so placating.

I really loved this story, I was anxious to read Mason's story.
Mason managed to irritate me with his actions at first, but when he finally realized his feelings and started to change it was really interesting.
Both he and Viola have issues from the past that affect their ways of seeing things and that affects them when they decide to give their incredible chemistry a chance.
I loved the story and the characters. I highly recommend the reading.

Not my favourite of the series. Though you can see the hurt behind the actions of mason being a jerk, doesn’t stop him from being a jerk. Tho he eventually does wake up and stops and that’s when story becomes good. Great character development as this author always does it well. You see both grow throughout the book, giving it real depth.
