Masaki Yamaguchi has lived by one rule: Bend the world to your will, and break those that refuse to comply. This motto has served him well as the head of the Yakuza family in Canarsie, Brooklyn. However, when he meets a soulful beauty with locs from Brownsville with her own set of rules, things aren’t as clear, or easy as they used to be.
Oshun Sampson has worked hard to clean up her beloved Brownsville, Brooklyn. She's sacrificed everything, including her own happiness, for the cause. She’ll be damned if she allows anyone the chance to destroy the progress she and her community have made. With the looming threat of the Canarsie Yakuza family closing in, the sexy new patron with the captivating eyes is a dangerous distraction she can’t afford.
Two powerful leaders with one distinct line drawn between them. Will their passion be enough to hold them together? Or, will bedding the enemy result in a bloody war that tears them and their communities apart?
LaQuette writes sexy, stylish, and sensational romance—the kind of sentimental-and-steamy stories that feel like Hallmark movies… if Hallmark suddenly ramped up the sexy and gave us the hawt love scenes we deserve. Expect big emotions, bold choices, and characters who strut through the pages like the book is their own personal runway.
A proud Brooklyn native, she crafts unapologetically bold, character-driven Black and interracial romances where Black women are joy-filled, desired, and absolutely treasured. These women know they belong on the page—and dare you to try telling them otherwise.

"Bend the world to your will, and break those that refuse to comply." - Masaki Yamaguchi
Oshun Sampson: "It wasn’t in her nature to submit to someone else’s will. Oshun wasn’t the kind of woman to let anyone control her. Control was always hers to wield."
"Bedding the Enemy" was an Double E --exciting and engaging read with strong H/h, Masaki Yamaguchi and Oshun Sampson who were different yet the same when it came to loving one another!
Laquette is a great author who gave her all in this fast-paced tale with suspenseful betrayal, deception, vivid love scenes, actions and many twists and turns til the very end!
Bedding the Enemy takes us into the dangerous underworld of Canarsie, Brooklyn where the heads of two crime families fall for each other. Starts off with an incredibly hot love scene and keeps you on your toes until the end.
Masaki and Oshun met at a club. What was intended to be a one-night stand become more. Fast forward 3 months and Masaki asks Oshun to move in with him. He thinks she is a waitress. She thinks he is a real estate developer. In reality, Masaki is the head of the Yakuza in Brooklyn and Oshun the head of her gang (in Brooklyn; Brownsville). Even though both characters are on the wrong side of the law (if you look at things as strictly black and white), I thought it instead was very gray and their intentions were good (improve the lives of the people that live there). Individual opinions/perspectives/intent all play factors. I really liked Masaki and Oshun. They worked well together. This was well paced and plotted. Plenty of sex too, but the plot didn't suffer for it. Very engaging read and I will seek out more by this author. Ripped Bodice Bingo: tattoos square.
The lines that sum up this book for me were: She'd started out being a PIECE he just wanted to have a good time with. She'd ended up being his PEACE, the other half of his gangster's soul. Yassss!!
Oshun and Mas were FIRE together! Two alphas are bound to be combustible but these two were meant for each other.
Loved how the author included characters from the Queens of Kings series. Heart is still the bada$$! Enjoyed this book THOROUGHLY!!
Usually not a fan of gangs, mafia and sharks. Mas and his love really did color lines grey. Warning, this book starts with a massive orgasm enduring start.
Oshun has lived in Brooklyn her entire life and she has taken it upon herself to protect her community. She has established a place where the community members feel safe, and she is proud of the work she has done to make her community safer. Masaki is a real estate agent that has fallen in love with Oshun despite both trying to be casual about the situation. However, the streets don’t love nobody!
My friend told me to read this because it was pure FIRE! Well, I will tell you this—I have read plenty of erotica and romance in my short life, and none have started off a chapter, the first chapter, the first sentence of the first chapter, like LaQuette! The first sentence sets the pace for this entire novella. I was not prepared for the first sentence or the budding romance between Oshun and Masaki. This novel has everything: love, devotion, betrayal, action, suspense, gunfire, near-death experiences, witness protection, secrets, lies, plot twists, insecurities, steamy love scenes, sexy hot Asian male, sexy, proud, and hot African American woman, the criminal underworld, money, pata sucios, love at first sight, relationship issues, crime boss issues, and loyalty. All of that in 135 e-book pages. I did think Masaki was p*$$y whipped, but it was adorable. The pace of the novel was good in my opinion. The story did not seem rushed and there did not seem to be any missing pieces or components to the tale. This novel hit all the spots and then some. I cannot wait to read another novel by this author.
2.5 stars. I want to start by saying that one of the main reasons this book got a low score for me was because it wasn't at all what I was expecting. I was browsing my library's romance section when I spotted this cover; a Japanese man and a Black woman in love, yes please! Its not a pairing I've come across often so I stanched it up. Reading the title, I figured this was an enemies to lover trope. I saw it was a novella so I new it wouldn't be slow burn, but what I wasn't expecting was that our couple was already 3 months into their relationship at the start of the book. I mean the book stars with a sex scene! I'm someone who needs more buildup, more angst. I also felt that because this was a novella everything was very surface level since we didn't really dive deep into anything. I love the concept of this story, but think it would have benefited from being a full length novel and starting 3 months earlier, when the characters first meet. The sex scenes were decent, I enjoyed them more towards the end when I had more connection to the characters, there were a few lines that made to stop and think, huh? but I think that's not too uncommon when it comes to smut. I would say this book taught me that romance novellas aren't my thing unless they are stories building onto a pre-existing novel, but it also made me realize that I'd like to continue exploring mafia romance :)
I bought this book by mistake. On Amazon, it is so easy to buy a book by the one click device. I have purchased books I did not mean to get by touching carelessly. However, this was a happy mistake. Oshun and Masaki were already almost a couple....or at least acquaintances with good benefits. They were on the opposite sides of a turf war....not knowing that they really should be enemies. When their right hand people set up a dente meeting...Oshun and Masaki are not supposed to survive. They do survive and barely escape...Oshun is injured saving Masaki. The lovers hide out for a while and then come back and take names and take down their enemies with some unlikely help. The book is peopled with characters from other stories. This accidental purchase was so well written I will have to check out other stories on purpose this time.
Madam and Oshun are two unlikely lovers in this tale of love, lust, power and betrayal. Their backgrounds are the same but different. Both head organizations that are not in Forbes Fortune 500 list and where betrayal is rewarded by death.
How Mas and Oshun make their relationship work in a world where they are on opposite sides is awesome but jeopardized by others and themselves. I worried if they would survive the strain but not only did they survive but they came out forged into the finest steel possible Thank you La Quette for an awesome story. I recommend this book to those that love a good, intense ride.
This book DAMN what can I say. IT STARTED WITH A BANG. To the Beginning to the end LaQuette never disappoints. Love the Asian romantic Feel(Big fan of Kdramas) Masaki and Oshun love the chemistry and thus series. Thanks For keeping us entertained with your Awesome Books 😘😘😘😘😘😘
This book is all that and then some! This book has everything I love in a book. A very strong leading lady, a handsome lethal leading man, great sex, and plenty of action! Oshun and Mas had my kindle burning up. I loved everything about this book!! I was left guessing til the end.
This story packed a punch! The author serves up sex, mystery, and romance from the first chapter. Each character jumped out of the pages. I was team Maas from the get go. Oshaun was strong, steady and powerful! Didn’t matter what her profession was she was a woman in control! Loved this couple! Well written story!
Really enjoyed this fast-paced, sexy romance between an African America gang leader and the head of a Japanese Yakuza gang, forging a deeper connection as they race to figure out how they’re being double-crossed. Great characters - strong, smart, confident, madly in love, and willing to stand up against the world.
Great book, short and to the point. I’d say it was an enemies to lovers book but really they start off being together in this steamy gang romance. There was a decent amount of action and mystery to this story and while I liked the book I guess my only complaint would be the abrupt ending. Definitely worth reading though!
First time reading from LaQuette. I really enjoyed this book. The book was hot and sexy, with some descriptive action. Well done, I will be looking for more from this author.
I love how this story is about a strong Black woman that will do anything to help her community and to her surprise, the man that she loves. Through this book the author shows us readers why the heroine is named after a goddess!
It was alright for a steam harlequin. It thankfully had a plot and stuck to it. Kinda cheesy though. But that is to be expected with smut. Still a good read to pass the time.
I like this book. The characters were really committed to each other. Mas and Oshun even thought they came from different backgrounds , they were honest about what they wanted in each other. And in the end they made it work.
this is a quick read that took quite a bit of time to get into and sustain interest in, partly due to the quality of writing and overly cliched plot points. it was somehow too much and not enough?
Overall a great read. Loved the way the author portrayed the female as strong and independent. The sex scenes were 🔥. Mas & Oshun loved them. Highly recommend.
Interesting story. After reading up to ch7 in a various author book I hoped it woild be a bit longer but I still enjoyed this brief story with the potential to carry on.
Great book would like to know what else happened where there be a sequel. I would like a sequel on how they deal with being leaders for each of there groups
I like Mas and Oshun. Two strong willed people and both bosses in their own right being together. I like how you put Heart and Bryan in this book. Good read.
Keeping you enemies close can backfire when your not sure who the enemy is. Nice to see Captain Heart do a cameo. Great read the author does great work.
Thorough and engaging character development. Oshun and Masaki put their communities first at all costs,,including their happiness. And the sex was hot.
