Collection of Zippy the Pinhead newspaper comic strips from 2002-2003. Everyone's favorite wise guy with the conical pate is back! Zippy Annual 2003 collects approximately a year's worth of strips (October 2002-October 2003), including full-color Sundays, and spotlights Zippy's ongoing love affair with "Brand X" America in all its faded roadside glory. Travel to the "Neon Boneyard," P.T. Barnum's sideshow, Japan, Levittown, and the early 1900s. Most notably, there's a gaggle of politically incorrect strips featuring Zippy Griffy's take on the Iraq War, including several satirical potshots at New World Order strategists Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz. Are we having a searchable database yet? Includes an informative "Pindex" of comments and notations from behind the scenes at Zippy Central.
I first read zippy in the newspaper, then when the paper took him out, I went to the daily e-mail of Zippy goodness. Even though I get to see these comics day to day, it's still fun to read them in a collected form, sorted by the theme: Zippy Solo, Zippy and Griffy, Diners, etc.
Zippy is one of those comics you either love or hate, get or don't get. Those that find Zippy hilarious--as I do--are as mystified by why people think he's terrible. Those that think he's terrible just weren't born for the surreal. They'll be happy with Cathy. I'll be happy to wear my pinhead.
If you like Zippy, I think you'll find reading these collected is a nice way to relive some of your favorite strips and catch the ones you missed. As always, for those with various backgrounds and settings, Griffy--er, Griffith--has footnotes. And I mean really, if you have footnotes, that's the perfect comic, right? (Library, 04/06)
