No one said being an adult was easy. Turns out, being a Little is even harder.
After almost a year of construction, the Castle looms on the cusp of its grand reopening. The only problem is, it isn’t ready. Something is up with the construction crew Marshall hired to get them back to full working order. Two days before guests are due to arrive, the construction company bails leaving Marshall with a Castle that is barely functional and he is forced to do the unthinkable. He brings in outside help in the form of any contract laborer who will answer his call.
Winona Mallaber has spent her entire life following her father from job site to job site. But now that he’s gone, all she wants is “her spot,” a place of permanence all her own. When she receives Marshall’s call, she comes running, more than ready to add his money to what she’s already saved. What she doesn’t anticipate is having to do the job in costume, the entire concept of a Littles’ wing, or having a Master put in charge of her. Especially not one who expects her to call him Daddy once the guests start arriving and who doesn’t think twice about turning her across his knee if she breaks the rules—something she can’t seem to stop doing. As good as she is at her job, she’s even better at making Jackson mad, developing feelings for a man that’s even more temporary than her job, and the only permanent spot she seems destined to own is a spot on the bench right outside Master Marshall’s office.
Welcome back to the Castle!
Author Wanting Winona is a standalone story set in the Masters of the Castle series. It can be read on its own or as part of the set.
Fortunate enough to live with my Daddy Dom, I am a Little, coffee fanatic, dog and cat mom, was an administrator for six years at my local BDSM dungeon, and have since become a Utah resident and submissive to the love of my life. An International and USA Bestselling Author several times over, I have penned more than 160 novels, novellas and short stories, and am the author of the Masters of the Castle and Daddy’s Little series.
Ah, the mysteriously disappearing story that was supposed to anchor this anthology, Daddies of the Castle: A Masters of the Castle Anthology, has now reappeared. After taking a look at who published the latter and who is now publishing the former, I think I can guess what happened.
Backstage drama aside, if you're looking for a relatively consensual DD/lg story that's neither too harsh nor hard-core (no diapers, bottles, nurseries, enemas), you will probably enjoy this. Given the number of books that take place at the Castle -- the kind of fantastical BDSM club that exists in these generic books -- I wouldn't say that you need to read them all to understand what's going on here. That said, several characters from past books do appear.
Electrician Winona is part of the contract labor hired to put the Castle back together after it was nearly destroyed by a bomb several months earlier (details are in Witness Protection Program). Eric, the dominant assigned to oversee her work, is instantly smitten by the woman he just knows is a Little; proving him right is a woman who never knew she was submissive and is now taking to it like a duck to water. The rest of the story details the growing attachment between an experienced dominant who never expected to fall (let alone this hard) and a newbie submissive, who, like the Alice she's dressed as, finds herself falling down the rabbit hole into BDSM Wonderland.
Let me first say that I appreciated that this was consensual; there were safewords; that the Castle at least to some extent came out against sexual harassment (truthfully, a lot of what Eric does to Winona is actionable and I would have felt better about their relationship if she weren't an independent contract employee); that Winona was a woman in a man's profession and, hence, not your stereotypical Little (and, thank god, not a brat); that Eric admired her professional skills and never tried to change her; and that Ms. Smith did not -- as many of these books do -- depict her female characters as hating their own gender.
That said, perhaps because this was originally supposed to be a novella in an anthology, there's very little tension, storyline, or, quite frankly, much of a plot here. And because of that, you have to swallow a lot of disbelief. You have to accept that in the 21st Century US and during the MeToo Moment, an employer would spank an employee without her explicit consent (Winona had not agreed to it the first time Eric does it). You have to accept that a woman who has never in her life heard of BDSM would go from 0 to 60 in a day and let Eric do absolutely anything to her without any talk of limits (so much for the Castle as a reputable, upstanding kink club). And you have to accept that two people who never do anything except engage in spanking and some butt plug activity would fall into insta-love with each other (the two never have an actual conversation until the end). To Ms. Smith's credit, she does call attention to this last problem with a little reflexive recounting of all the relationships that have developed similarly at the Castle. Finally, in an erotic book, it's odd -- for some readers, it will be disappointing -- that the couple never actually .
So, if you're looking for relatively sweet erotica (though it's almost exclusively spankings) with a dollop of humor between likeable individuals, you will enjoy this. It will while away an afternoon. Given how difficult the times are right now, this is absolutely something you might want. But don't expect anything more.
Side Note: There was one plot point -- -- that I thought would be explained, but wasn't. I don't remember now if it is in any of the other original anthology's stories.
4 stars. I would very much like Ms. Smith to just once write a submissive character who actually says "no" to something. We always talk of fantasy dominants in this genre, but, equally, there are fantasy submissives: none of Ms. Smith's h's ever refuse their H's anything, and that's really beginning to pall.
I have only discovered this author more recently and definitely haven't had the time to get caught up in the series, but I read the description in one of her newsletters awhile back and was interested in the premise. I liked Winona and Eric and their chemistry was awesome. I like the way the author handles spanking and have only recently been introduced to the little concept and liked reading a less, shall we say, overly descriptive story than I have read previously. *Cough* Enemas *Cough*. The camaraderie between the staff at The Castle was hilarious, especially the conversations they had with just their eyes. I liked that the book respected different lifestyle choices but wish that Eric would have discussed things with Win instead of just stepping into the role without giving her a heads up because she is pretty oblivious to being a little. She is definitely interested and unbeknownst to her she fits the role, but it kind of bothered me that he just started spanking her and didn't go over any type of expectations aside from punishments. I did read this as a stand alone and was only slightly in the dark about some characters and their relationships, but it didn't prevent me from keeping up with this story. Overall it was a sweet, hot read that was a great way to spend a Friday night.
As adorable as its little heroine. I've read this story before as part of one of the Masters of the Castle anthologies. It's a shorter read - novella length at best, but it feels satisfying despite the brevity. It has everything I expect from a Maren Smith story: a possessive alpha hero, a big-hearted heroine who just needs a break to find the right man, and a cast of supporting characters who are always good for a laugh. One of the things I really liked about this story was how Winona's trades-woman-ship felt genuine. The author didn't shy away from showing the heroine pulling cables and climbing around in vents and crawlspaces. That made Winona feel real to me. I appreciate a plucky heroine, but not one who stupidly goes against her own interests, and Winona did have a few of those moments. Fortunately, Eric was there to protect her and administer the spankings she needs to bring her back in line. The conversation Eric and Marshall have almost entirely with their eyebrows is hilarious and provided much appreciated humour in anxious times.
So, ageplay is not something I'm interested in, but I'm trying to understand it, and since I've loved Maren Smith's other books in the Masters of the Castle Series, I thought I'd try it.
Honestly, throwing a bunch of subcontractors who know nothing about the BDSM/fetish lifestyle into a working BDSM resort is a recipe for disaster. Thankfully, the Castle staff found Winona, the best, hardest-working electrician/handyperson out there... and apparently she likes power exchange and calling her lover "Daddy." I still don't understand it, but Wanting Winona is a fun book and a great addition to the Castle series.
Well this was my first read in the serie, yes I know I'm 28 books behind 🙈 BUT I very much enjoyed this book and do plan to go back and enjoy the rest of the series.
I absolutely adored Win, she was a total bad a** handywoman and her skills shined when needed most in an emergency. Her bratty sassy Little side was also lots of fun.
I loved the concept of the castle...a place for those in the lifestyle to go be who they are, enjoy what they like with like minded people and be able to leave society's judgement behind. Also since this is long running series you can easily see that character relationships are well defined and on running. I love being invested in a cast of characters.
The dynamic between Eric and Win was great, watching him try and fail to reign in his Daddy side and her Little basically coming out all engines roaring was hilarious to "watch" unfold.
I am SO glad this book was suggested to me. I'll be back for more from Maren and this series!
Winona starts a temporary contractor at the Castle, which is a BDSM resort. The Dom assigned to her immediately recognizes that she's a Little. He proceeds to treat her more like a guest than a contractor. It bothered me that they had her wear a Little costume to do her work. I get that she needed to blend in but a short dress doesn't provide the protection she would need in crawl spaces and ceilings. She at least wore her boots but bare arms and legs would get scraped up in reality. I also felt Eric's Daddy Dom expectations were unreasonable for someone who knows nothing about Littles or BDSM.
This was heavy on punishments and really light on cuddles and aftercare. She should have received more patient explanations instead of immediate hard spankings. I really liked Win and wanted to see her get some tenderness to go with her red bottom.
this is a little outside of my comfort zone but I really do love the writing of smith. Decided not to skip even though I thought it would delve a little too FAR into the little genre than I was going to be okay with. Overall, its definitely just a toe or 2 into the pond. You aren't jumping head first and there really are only vague references to maybe the "deep end" of the pool.
I didn't like that there was no push back of really ANY kind on Win's part. NOW she did dive head first and that just didn't jive with her overall character. This VERY independent women is not just going to throw on a baby doll dress and magically slip into this little role. Seemed very inauthentic. BUT, and thats a big one, I still really liked their story. I thought it a little sugar sweet, maybe over the top cotton candy at times, but in no way hallmark.
I really want to put this out there. An experienced Dom can fall in love with an experienced sub. Please, write more about those relationships. Most every series like this starts with a girl either stepping into a club for the first time or some how stumbling into it. I really do get how that would allow the writer to introduce the "world" to the reader in a much easier way but can we add some of these subs finding love. BUT then its like book after book of contrived ways of these submissive women falling into masters laps. WHY do the masters always get the girl and then we see all these subs just begging for scraps.... hate that. rant over
Welcome back to the Castle—it’s been months since the bombing, while the Castle has been reconstructed, it is full of issues throughout—electrical, plumbing, shoddy work, expenses over the budget, and now it is time to open. When the hired contractors fail to do their job and leave it unfinished, the Masters decide they must bring in others. Winona “Win” Mallaber was trained by her late father, and now she is going to be hired to help get the Castle up and running.
“Mallabers, as her father used to say, stood for done one, done fast, and done right!”
The story is a wonderful addition to the Master of the Castle tales, and this one will bring in a “Jill-of-all-trades” Win Mallaber, the only female hired to help repair, replace, and get various things working at the Castle. She will be assigned to Master Eric Novak, a Daddy Dom in the Nursery. Part of the contract agreement is that all the contractors will be under a Master in Charge, and Eric specifically asks Marshall for Win. Eric sees the “little” in Win, and his Daddy Dom persona wants to protect her, care for her, and punish her when needed—and he does.
“She wasn’t his Little. But he wanted her to be. He really, really wanted her to be, and that was at once the most terrifying, appalling, gut-ripping revelation he thought he’d ever had after knowing someone for this short a time.”
The story will have plenty of angst, shock, experiences, and awakening desire as Win is hired as a contractor to work at the Castle, and under the watchful eye of Daddy Eric. She will surprise everyone with her work ethics, but when it comes to listening to rules, her naughty side comes out, and Daddy Eric has to punish this little girl many times. What is it about her that he just feels the need to take control? This has never happened to him before, but he isn’t going to let this chance get away. Will Win and Eric find a chance for more? Will she find a place to settle and a Daddy to care for her? Has she found her “spot” with Eric and the Castle?
“Am I out of my mind, or do you feel something between us too?”
I received this book to read from BookSprout and after reading it I would like to give my honest opinion of what I read. This is the first time that I have read anything by this author and I have to say that I was some what surprised.
Even though there are areas of this book that describe sexual encounters it is mild compared to some of the other books that I have encounter overs the years. In that regard I was pleased. Sometimes less is more and in this case the less was just right. The story line kept me interested by the fact that I didn’t know what kind of trouble the Winona was going to get into next and what Eric was going to do about it.
Winona had been saving for her own home. A place to call her own. She was a plumber, carpenter, Master Electrician. She had worked and lived in the van that her father owned her whole life. Until he past away a few years back. She still lived in the van working in Florida and places were disaster has struck to help in the rebuilding. She accepted this job in hopes to adding to her nest egg. She didn’t know what she was getting into until she went into the orientation. Now she has a Daddy to answer to and rules to follow rules that she doesn’t seem to understand.
Eric was at the check in point when she arrived and the had a short little friendly discussion. During the orientation a few of the men behind her whispered snide remarks to her it was then that Eric decided that she was going to be working with him in the Nursery. Doing all of the repairs. As the contractors that were working them to get the Castle up and running again took off a few days before their Grand Opening.
Eric and Win are now facing feeling either of them have ever felt before and each is unsure as to how to deal with the feelings and what the future will hold once she is finished with her job there. All sorts of things happen at the Castle, good and bad and that is what kept me reading this story almost non stop.
I absolutely loved reading this book. The power play between a Daddy Dom and his Little was very interesting and reading how the characters developed and they both fit nicely into their roles with spankings and Win learning to be a Little made this book worth reading. I recommend anyone interested in this style of book to read it.
Winona is a contractor who has been called to the Castle to help with the repairs that haven’t been completed by an incompetent construction company, but what she doesn’t know is that it is a BDSM resort. She starts her work in the Little section of the castle. Eric is her Master in charge or as he soon becomes Known to Win as Daddy.
Eric has been working for the Castle as a Daddy Dom for the last few years. After the bombing of the Castle by a madman, they had been having the rebuilding done by a company who were sabotaging their grand opening. Nothing worked right, the power kept breaking down, doors weren’t put on right, windows would open and lights weren’t all working, wiring was shonky.
Once Eric saw Winona, he knew she was a Little. He helped he set up for work and helped her get things down. Then she is discovered working after hours when she shouldn’t be and then she is given a punishment. Win seems set to always be in trouble because her curiosity keeps getting the better of her. Then the contractors are all being sent away. Will Win and Eric have their happily ever after?

Wanting Winona is the twenty ninth book in the Masters of the Castle series, but could be read as a stand alone. When Winona got a frantic call for contracting work, she jumps at the challenge. But she isn’t expecting to do all of her work in a costume with Daddy Eric shadowing her. Intrigued with each other, not able to help her curiosity, she follows Eric where he leads, but when her work is done, what will happen next?
I thought this book had the perfect combination between adorable innocence, steamy connection, a drive to getting a job done well, and a love that grew quickly and fiercely. I had moments of swooning, going “awe” over some of the cuteness, needing a cold glass of water, and needing to keep flipping pages to see what would happen next! I wasn’t sure what to think of Eric at first, he seemed a little arrogant and pushy and way too good at his job. But as he fought for Win, as he wanted to stay by her side, preserve some of her innocence, and keep her protected, even when he had to punish her for naughty behaviors, I fell for him, too. Win was perfect and so relatable! She was serious about her job, felt jealousy, had a curiosity that got her in trouble, and was innocent yet sassy! I loved their connection, I loved how real they both felt, and I loved the direction that this book took. It felt a bit like coming home reading this romance set within the Castle and I loved every moment I spent reading this book!
OMG! Since this is my first trip to The Castle, the introduction to me was almost as chaotic as the first chapter … hahaha. I was trying to keep track of who was who and what their jobs were but as I read further along, it became apparent to me that Maren Smith, in her usual style, had laid things out so well I didn't have to keep track. It just flowed like a movie in my head and I was thoroughly introduced to the players in a family style way. The chemistry between Winona and Eric was just absolutely relatable with her wide-eyed wonder and his reluctance to admit his deeper feelings. It was sexy, beautiful, and heart-melting. At the same time, since this is my introduction to The Castle, there was a bit of mystery that seemed to be playing out which had me intrigued. I know I'm going to have to backtrack and read "Masters of the Castle" now that my interest and curiosity have been peaked. What a great introduction to this series!
I loved reading Wanting Winona: A Contemporary Daddy Dom Romance(Masters of the Castle Book 29). All about Winona Mallaber a Jack of all trades in the construction industry in her early twenties & Master Eric a part owner & Dom for the resort Castle in Ohio. The castle is a premiere fantasy resort, that has been closed for over a year, when a bomb went off destroying half the grounds & buildings. The castle is set to re-open in two days, and it has over five hundred problems that need to be fixed before opening the doors. The old contractor walked off the job!!! The castle decides to call 50 construction trades-men to come in and fix the castle & get a bonus in the end plus time & a 1/2. Read about Winona & Master Eric and the trouble she gets into while racing around fixing the Nursery Wing!! I’ve never read this author before, but I definitely enjoyed reading about this BDSM pleasure resort, called The Castle!!!
I love every chance we get to come back to the Castle, and it’s all the more exciting when we get to see a woman discover her hidden desires and watch a playboy learn the joys of forever after. This is probably one of my favorite books in the series. I read it initially at the time of the anthology it was originally slated to be a part of, and I keep coming back to this story because it’s just so stinkin’ much fun. I loved discovering the Castle and the Lifestyle through Win’s eyes. And for as cruel as I feel for enjoying his pain, it was an absolute delight seeing Eric lose his mind over Win while he was losing his heart to her. Now, I hope we don’t have to wait quite as long for the next opportunity to visit the Castle. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.
Poor Win had no idea what was in store for her when she accepted this latest job. It's good money working at a castle, but dressing and living as a Little while doing may be too much. . . Or not?!? I liked it because there are definitely the kinky bits - I liked when Master Jackson was assigned contractors who had to dress a pastel fluffers (guys dressed in bunny outfits). I busted up laughing when they asked why there was a 'butt-flap' on their costumes. I could just imagine some regulars plumbers working at a BDSM dungeon walking around in costumes trying to undertake what was going on. This story doesn't really have smt smexy times in it just D/l that is related to the plot line. It's a cute story and Win will quickly have you won over

NOTE: This is a bit of a series review rather than each book in the series!)
Okay let's put my cards on the table shall we - I needed smut, I needed Alpha, I needed 'Sir's and 'Sweetheart' endearments and control. I found it in these. They are written by different authors but they keep the continuity of the whole 'Castle' really well. You have the BDSM Resort through it's early stages, through big events like disaster and Charity Auctions - and I have loved ALL of them.
I have read 10 single titles in two weeks, plus the chunk of Witness Protection books that come in one compendium - and I just realised I missed a whole other chunk so I will be back to them soon... but...
It's not high flying writing, it's mostly realistic, certainly all the BDSM play stuff is but some of the quickly falling for each other is a little squiffy. I will say that the psychological issues dealt with by the 'Masters' or 'Sir's throughout the books was really well done and quite affecting in places.
OF NOTE: Owning 'O' is deeply affecting, or at least it was to me.
PLEASE READ THE TRIGGERS - there are quite a few in there and mention of quite a full things.
Many of the books are written by authors who are in the lifestyle and I think that shines through in the writing.

Wanting Winona is a great addition to the Masters of the Castle series. I have waited since the last book in the series for Eric to find his submissive and although the wait felt long this book did not disappoint. Winona is hands down the most adorable Little I have yet encountered in any book and Eric is so hot in his protectiveness and his identity as a Daddy, that he’ll melt your panties right off and make your kindle overheat. The chemistry is so spot on that what passes between them seems more like second natur than play. You don’t even have to like age play to love this book. I very warmly and wholeheartedly recommend you read this hot and heartwarmingly sweet book yourself! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The castle is not done being repaired after the bombing! Master Marshall calls in contractors to finish up one day before the castle is to open and Winona is one of them. She is a Jane of all trades. Master Daddy Eric is entranced by her and he decided he was going to be her daddy. Dressed in a Little outfit reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, with steel toe boots, a hardhat and a tool belt, Winona burrows her way into Eric's heart. Unlike the other contractors, Winona is getting her Little bottom spanked when she doesn't listen to Daddy! This is a great story and I hope there are more Master of the Castle stories coming!

The antics, this story, well, littles always bring the fun, but watching Eric twist, flounder, and freak out, it was AWESEOME! The prophetic words at the beginning, that he is ready for a fall don’t even cover. From the moment he sees her, he is lost. The fact he doesn’t know what to do, and keeps stepping up, and up, and up, because Littles are notorious for getting into trouble, and even ones who don’t know like Winona, to get his Little out of trouble was so much fun! Even more so was watching Winona become a Little, and Eric become her Daddy, and both of them falling in love. That epilogue, happiness defined!
this is a sweet little daddy dom/ little girl book. poor little Winona doesn't know what she is in for when she steps into the castle. this innocent naive little girl is soon going to learn that when daddy says to do something that is exactly what he means! even if daddy is very smitten with you, and thinks your the most adorable little girl he has ever seen.
i loved Winona and Eric's story it was just so heartwarming and cute. loved seeing Eric's world rocked, not knowing which way to turn over a sweet innocent little girl. loved seeing Winona's wide eyed wonder at discovering a world she knew nothing about
I really enjoyed this age-play story. It was about Eric and Winona. The Castle needs to be fixed up after a tragedy and one of the contractors is Winona, who goes by 'Win'. She is placed with Master Eric who is a Daddy dom. The story shows the two characters forming a relationship and what happens during that time. There are plenty of punishments in this story. It is steamy but also a little romantic. This is the first story that I've read by Maren Smith but I will definitely have to check out some more.

A sweet lovable young woman finds herself in the midst of a castle of doms and subs with a mixture of littles. This story had me chuckling at the antics of the main character. Her innocence was charming and her reactions were vastly entertaining. I loved how the author crafted a story around a similar site to those who have read a book in this series yet kept it fresh by adding a new relatable dilemma along with a character that fit in perfectly. I can’t wait to read the next book to see how this couple has evolved and to meet new characters intermingled with old favorites.

Winona "Win" has been a contractor all her life. Her father taught her his trade. When the other contractors fail to finish their job and do a crummy job then the Masters must bring in another contractor. Which is how Win gets to the castle. She is assigned to Master Eric, who is a Daddy Dom in the Nursery. When he meets Win he sees the "little" in Win. She is an awesome contractor but she's a naughty side that doesn't like rules! That's when Eric feels the need to protect her, care for her, punish her (when needed) and he ends up losing his heart to her. Fantastic "Castle" story. The most important thing about a new job, after landing the job, is completing the job. Winona's introduction to the Castle comes as one of many contractors hired to finish the incomplete repairs after the bombing. Winona comes to the Castle with no expectations past doing her job and getting paid. Her seemingly single-minded work ethic gets her in hot water more than once as she steps outside the rules set by Master Marshall and enforced by Master Eric. I really liked the way that this story develops as Winona learns what the lifestyle is really about, and Eric realizes that his life will never be the same.
I love The Masters of the Castle series and this is the nicest, sweetest one in it. Poor Winona is lovely, sweet, very hard working and alone. Eric is so jaded that he is a bit blind. There are plenty of disciplinary spankings and a wonderful unfolding relationship as typical for this series. I adore Winona and would love to have her work in my house. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and I very highly recommend it. I hope that this is the begining of lots more in this series. Wonderful, interesting, entertaining story.
The Castle was bombed and is in reno. Unfortunately, the contractor flakes out. Now a bevy of contractors have descended - including Win. She has travelled around working repair jobs all her life, so room and board while on the job is great. First stop, the Little nursery. Works out well for the Daddy Dom in charge once he gets a good look at Win. She can't believe how good it feels to have someone take care of her, once she gets used to her bottom burning. So good. Spanking romance.

The Castle series are so much fun and Wanting Winona is no exception. Winona has been living in her van and Life has been hard after her father died. Coming to the Castle is like manna from heaven and Eric is the icing on the cake. He brings out her little and tries to keep her out of trouble as her Master in the castle. Win had overcome so much and it was nice to see someone taking care of her and allowing her to flourish. Falling in love was a bonus for them both and the ending was so perfect.
I loved this story and Maren Smith is a very good writer. I am not particularly fond of Little stories especially if they get down into diapers, bottles cribs etc. This story does not get to that stage but I did take a chance on it only because if the author. I am very glad I did. The story of a Eric and Winona is lovely and definitely has its funny side. Of course it is an HEA, what else would you expect from a Masters of the a Castle book? If you like mild age play, mild BDSM sprinkled with a few punishments do read this.
I’m fairly new fan of Maren Smith so I haven’t read previous books in Masters of the Castle series yet. I definitely have a lot of catching up to do! Since this book served as my introduction to this series, I thoroughly enjoyed discovering Castle together with Winona. I liked her strong character and she was simply adorable as a Little. The chemistry she had with Eric was amazing and their scenes were super hot. I really loved their dynamic and banter. The storyline was well written, engaging and easy to read. I definitely look forward to discover more of the Castle!
I received a copy of this book from Booksprout and this is my honest review.
This is the first book I have read in this series and I enjoyed it. It is well written, entertaining and holds your interest. Win is hired to fix electrical problems and has a hard time abiding by all the rules that the contractors are required to follow. Eric, a Daddy Dom, is in charge of supervising/disciplining Win and he takes this job seriously especially the discipline part. There is a lot going on in this story that makes it an excellent read. I would highly recommend this book as a great read.
