When Bailey’s new boss turns out to be his childhood bully, a.k.a. Jake the Jerk, it’s time to call in backup for the upcoming corporate retreat in Vegas. Too bad Bailey works too much to date. His best option is to ask his very straight roommate Gordo to play the part of temporary boyfriend, even if Gordo is better with pythons than he is with people.
Except Bailey and Gordo haven’t even checked into the hotel and Jake the Jerk is already everywhere. The pressure is on for Bailey to prove he deserves to climb the corporate ladder, but it’s hard to talk shop as Gordo goes from backup to an increasingly attractive distraction.
Bailey’s trying to keep his cool, schmooze the executives and stick to the plan, even though Gordo’s not playing by any of the rules. They’ve always been just friends, but maybe it’s time to be boyfriends…with full benefits.
Boyfriend with Benefits is a 37k contemporary MM romance novella. It features fake boyfriends who might not be so fake, a hotel room with only one bed, and a James Bond moment in a tiny blue bathing suit. HEA guaranteed.
This was a short story with a sweet giant and a lovely normal height man. 🤭🤭💜
I adore fake boyfriend tropes, so I didn't doubt grabbing this one, besides this gurl writes fun books and this was fun!!! It was adorable and it hit the spot.
This was a cute story, but so many things made no sense that it was hard to actually enjoy it.
- Gordo is a self made multimillionaire, yet he only brought T-shirts’ and cutoffs to a corporate retreat? And he was acting so impressed by the Bellagio fountains, like he has never seen anything like it?
- Bailey didn’t realize that Gordo upgraded them to first class?
- Jake’s job was made redundant, but he was able to save it by saying how good his “friend” Bailey was? What? And then Ed was making strategic reorganization decisions based on random discussions with Jake? Again what? How does this company function with such ridiculous management?
- Gordo found a random roommate (Bailey) that he didn’t need, because he was lonely?
- They have lived together for two years, are BFFs, but Bailey knows literally nothing about Gordo other than he rescues animals and bakes pot cupcakes?
- Somehow after quitting their corporate careers, they are BOTH happy running an animal rescue from home? Bailey never showed any interest in animals before, but now he is making it his life passion?
I’m all about suspending disbelief to enjoy a book. But once you forget about all these unbelievable things, is there anything left to enjoy?
And Bailey was a complete jerk to Gordo in the beginning. Ugh.

I do love a good fake boyfriend romance and this novella from Allison offers up one which hits all the right notes.
Bailey took a bit of warming up to, which I really appreciated.
This book twists some of the usual plot steps to give the reader a pretty neurotic character who is pretty much a workaholic and occasionally a bit thoughtless.
Gordo, on the other hand, is a bit of an enigma and I loved his chilled way of life. Bailey's nemesis Jake was a slimy creep and I liked how his plotline ended.
Overall this was an enjoyable and easy read and I wouldn't mind catching up with Bailey and Gordo again!
#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.
I hated Bailey. He was a whiny, complaining, bitch. Jake was a jerk that’s true. I also thought Bailey was a jerk. How could someone as wonderful as Gordo love him. Also, more than half of this book was Bailey’s boring inner monologue. The only reason I didn’t give it one star is because I liked after they got together most of the time. And I liked the ending.
In a true masterclass of how to write a humorous fake-boyfriend romance, Allison Temple in Boyfriend with Benefits achieves what no book I've read in months has managed: to make me write a book review. (I've been busy, okay? Grad school is kicking my ass over here.) A brief summary: after workaholic Bailey finds out that his childhood bully is his new boss, he makes the misguided attempt to insinuate that his straight roommate Gordo is his boyfriend to make himself look successful. Gordo - a possibly unemployed, reptile-raising, 6'6" space cadet of a man - is willing to play along with his scheme, and a working trip to Las Vegas leads to all sorts of shenanigans.
So this is just a freaking delightful book. I'm not even kidding. In this first-person narrative, Temple manages to construct a truly humorous, singular voice in Bailey, a type-A workaholic with the burning desire to prove himself despite the world - or rather, his former bully - being out to get him. As the novel progresses, Bailey gradually learns more about his roommate Gordo, and discovers that he is not who he thought he was. What I find so great about Bailey and his perspective is that he learns everything at the same time we the readers do, and his shock or happiness or pleasure are, in many ways, reflections of our own. In other words, Temple is a master of pacing.
Honestly, I don't really know what to say (which should probably be obvious by this point in the review). It's just a really fun read and one that I think is criminally overlooked in the scheme of m/m romance. Recommended if you like the fake boyfriend trope; size differences; depictions of characters on the asexual spectrum; lizards named Bernard; himbos (er, sort of); and emus.
Allison Temple never lets me down and this time she's written one of my favourite character types in Gordo. A ginger, bearded, mountain of a man that bakes and loves animals. But Gordo is not the POV character for this story, that is his roommate, Bailey, a ball of pent up work stress whose childhood bully has recently made a reappearance. Even with Bailey's blinkered POV the fact Gordo cares for him is obvious to the reader. So when Bailey asks Gordo to be his fake boyfriend for a weekend work shindig there is only one way for this to go. Their road to a relationship is fun, infuriating and lovely. I adored the epilogue and the change Gordo made to Bailey's life. FYI: I'd love Elias story. And I wish I knew what happened to Lachlan. And that chihuahua's daddy.
ETA: Audio is great too. Really enjoyed revisiting these guys again.
A volte fa così.
This is a charming, funny, and cute novella that goes exactly where you expect, but does so well and with such a graceful ease. I was grinning at some parts, laughed once, and — all in all — enjoyed the read. I really like the author’s writing style and that, while Bailey is such a voice heavy character, he never came across as whiny or generic. I’ve added this author to my watch list and look forward to more of their work.
This is not my first book by the author and everytime I read her words I fall in love even more.
This book had me laughing out loud, silently crying and having the biggest smile on my face by the end of it. I absolutely loved Gordo. That man was as perfect as they come. And I'll be honest and say that it bugged me a little that Bailey was blind for so long and couldn't see what was in front of him. But despite that I still loved him and their relationship.
Short, sweet and funny..what more could you ask for?!?

I love a good fake boyfriend setup but I like it to be clever and well-written. Fortunately, Allison Temple never disappoints. This is a great summer read. It's not too long, has great characters and it's funny!
So this is a new take on the fake boyfriend trope. Bailey has been working hard at his job... trying to work his way up. Then one day he shows up to discover that the new hire, someone he's going to have to work with directly is JAke Kenyon aka Jake The Jerk. He bullied Bailey for years when they were young. And things get worse because there's a retreat coming up... and Jake The Jerk has an emu rescuing, handsome boyfriend and Bailey has no one but his roommate Gordo. In a moment of weakness, Bailey lets slip the Gordo is his boyfriend and commits them to attend the retreat.
The thing that makes this story a lot of fun are the characters. Bailey is wound tight, but he still finds time to be quirky and funny. Some of his remarks are hilarious and I really enjoyed his banter with people. Gordo is an enigma for much of the story and I'm not giving anything away. He's a big, burly, laid back bearded guy. He's a great roommate... often taking care of Bailey when he doesn't even know he needs it.
Maybe there's more between them? Of course, there is! But don't despair there are quite a few awkwardly adorable moments and some confusion and even some pretty heavy emotion before they work out what they could potentially be to one another.
This is a kind of a prince Charming tale... only Baily doesn't even really know that he needs to be rescued. He's caught up in the rat race like most people are and can't really see that there might be a way out of it. But then... Bailey hasn't been seeing a lot of things that are right under his nose! Yes, I'm teasing! If you like M/M romance, I think you'll enjoy this one!
2.5 stars. Something about this one didn't quite click for me. It was too focused on the business/business rivalry, and not enough on the relationship. I kind of couldn't understand why Gordo liked Bailey so much, seeing how he'd basically ignored him and taken him for granted their entire friendship. And then everything was too neatly resolved.
I think if this story had been told from Gordo's perspective, I would have enjoyed it more.
Allison Temple's Boyfriend With Benefits is a fun fake boyfriends romance.
When Bailey has to deal with an ex bully, he has Gordo pretend to be his boyfriend. What follows are some great surprises and discoveries.
But the beauty in this story is Bailey's sudden sexual attraction to his roommate. And best of all, "Bailey. Are you under the impression that I'm straight?"
Gordo's a unique character. I love the way the two men differ. Bailey always thinks Gordo is doing something weird, and then we learn Gordo's thoughts and wow. Every time. Gordo's just fun and truly delightful. Love it.
This is a wonderful combination of roommates, fake boyfriend, friends to lovers, and opposites attract. Their story has some hot first time and an ex bully.
One of the intriguing factors in this story is the size difference between the men. Seriously, it is a huge difference. As well, the differences between their personalities is ever present.
I love the writing style, as it's fluid with two intriguing characters and an even more intriguing storyline. The author does a wonderful job of taking these men on a fun journey to truly discover each other and their feelings for one another.
Overall, Boyfriend with Benefits will keep you entertained throughout. This Allison Temple friends to lovers romance is fantastic. It's sweet, mostly low-angst, and will leave you satisfied in the end.
Gordo is a frickin delightful ray of goddamn sunshine and cinnamon rolls. He is exactly what the world needs in these stressful times.
This book has no angst and no over the top drama and it still manages to pack in the feels. Bailey thinks that Gordo is straight, but he’s not. He’s pan and demi, and their relationship takes off from the second that’s revealed. Love them together. Massive fucking heart eyes.
Bring on more Gordon and his bestie Elias. It’s time to give Gordo some emus.
I absolutely adored Bailey and Gordo! Bailey asks Goro to be his fake boyfriend during a corporate retreat, Gordo decides to be himself and not follow the plans. There’s a good amount of heat and steam. Overall, this was great, loved it. I got the opportunity to listen to the audio version of this. Toby James was a new to me narrator. It took me a bit to warm up to him but overall he did great!
I really enjoyed this story. Gordo was absolutely adorable and Bailey was completely oblivious to how long Gordo has been harboring feelings for him. Full of humorous situations and ultimately a tale of redemption as Bailey opens his eyes and realizes he hasn't always been that great of a human being. Toby James did a wonderful job narrating
Bailey's new boss is his childhood bully, Jake....and somehow he's been looped into bringing his roommate Gorodo to Las Vegas for a company retreat...because he might've accidentally pretended Gordo was his partner.
Obviously fake dating turns out pretty good usually.
This was a lot funnier than I expected and, while not SWOONY, definitely cute. Definitely don't regret having snagged this for free during one of those Stuff Your Kindle days!
Allison Temple is fast becoming one of my favorite authors for MM Romance.
I freaking loved Boyfriend with benefits. I'll admit that I went into this one blind, not even a peek at the blurb. So I was pleasantly surprised at who the love interest turned out to be after the first few chapters.
This book had plenty of drama, heat, and sexy times. Plus LOL moments that fit perfectly with Allison's writing style.
Give me a hunky bear with honey sweetness any day. And man did Allison deliver here. And Bailey... oh goodness. His high-strung personality made for a great storyline.
This is a story that I enjoyed to listen to. The narrater is new to me but I liked him. And the story between Bailey and Gordo worked and the fit together. I liked that the book was shorter but a great story!
Consigliato! Hugs&kisses
This was just okay for me, no big complaint but I didn't love it. I love Gordo, I like Bailey, I liked them together. I'm not sure I'm sold completely on their shift from roommates to more, but I like parts of it a lot. I enjoyed that Gordo was way ahead of Bailey and a little dumbfounded that Bailey wasn't even aware of it. That was charming. But the stuff outside of their relationship was meh. Honestly, I didn't dislike Jake at all. He's supposed to be this horrible person, but the worst thing he did happened years before the book begins. I kind of felt a bit bad for him by the end to be honest. So yeah, it's a decent read.
