Two years of living under the thumb of a sociopathic killer will do that to a woman. But her sacrifices are worth it, if they save the lives of the two people she loves most in the world—her brother, Sean, and Navy SEAL Brett Taggart. But when her world explodes, exposing all her lies and hard choices, the consequences are horrific. And the resulting fallout sweeps up the two men she’s sacrificed everything to protect.
Brett (Tag) Taggart’s last two years have been hell.
The woman he’d expected to spend his life with ditches him to return to her hinky ex—a fellow special operator who raises one red flag after another. The teammates he depends on to watch his six turn on him in their stampede to take sides in Sarah’s Navy SEAL love triangle. And the wedding of the woman he loves—to a f@cking psychopath—is marching closer every day. But when Sarah is kidnapped minutes before walking down the aisle, it’s all hands on deck to rescue her.
The resulting disclosure of her secrets and lies leaves Tag reeling, unable to forgive or forget her choices. But when their positions are suddenly reversed and Sarah is taken, he’ll do anything—sacrifice everything—to get her back.
And suddenly the world isn’t so black and white anymore
I was enjoying this book up until the last 2 chapters when they added in a trope I hate. But it was mixed in with some good spicy scenes so I did finish the book. The pacing through most of the book was great and up until chapter 22 or 23 I was really into the book. Always love a man in a uniform and war hero who saves the woman he's in love with trope. The FMC has some gumption and isn't dumb or helpless, something I always appreciate. Relatable characters. The ending really dragged out though.
Spoiler: the not CF friendly rating is due to discussions of getting pregnant/starting a family and trying to get pregnant. No actual pregnancy or babies.
This book really worked for me in so many ways. It felt believable and real. The plot was compelling. The characters were genuine. They made mistakes, they talked about things, and the resolution was an actual resolution and not just grunts and steamy bodies. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up!
I kind of don’t even know what to say about this book. I’m a sucker for a second chance, but this is unlike any second chance I’ve ever read. We’ve seen the tension between Tag and Sarah through the earlier books in the series, so I was very ready to finally learn what the end result was going to be. Getting there was a twisty, dramatic roller-coaster ride that frequently left me yelling at my reader – for both good and bad reasons. I loved Sarah’s strength and Tag’s devotion, but I was slightly horrified at how easily the villain was able to manipulate both of them. I suppose it’s the reader’s curse; being able to live in the heads of multiple characters in a book, Because there were a couple of times I got so frustrated that they weren’t seeing clues that I thought should have been easy to recognize. One of my favorite things about this book is that it does a cross-over with Dark Falls. I’m absolutely giddy over it. And the nerd-girl in me did a happy-dance watching the big bad SEALs geek out over laptops. I really enjoyed those little moments of humor in the story. Now that we’ve met the pair who are going to be the stars of the next book, I’m very interested in getting my hands on it. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.
Future Under Fire is a phenomenal contemporary romance by Trish McCallan. Ms. McCallan gives readers a well-written book filled with outstanding characters. Sarah has been faking her engagement right up until she is kidnapped from the wedding venue before the vows were said. Brett tried to warn Sarah about the man she was about to marry. Brett and Sarah's story is packed with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Trish McCallen soon. Future Under Fire is book 4 of the Operation: Hot Spot Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Seemingly self-loathing at times, SEAL wants his old flame back who broke up with him under mysterious circumstances. Said old flame is keeping a secret that involves her, her brother, and treason-good reason to dump the SEAL. When said old flame is kidnapped on her wedding day, her ex jumps into action with his closest teammates/buddies-unofficially-to save the day.
I was back and forth for a 3 star rating or a 4 star. The reason I wavered was - (and this is my personal opinion) 1.The special ops guys - an amazing, strong, courageous, dedicated, all-American, group of men to be honored and respected - were portrayed as kind of bumble-heads. Those guys are a tight group and they each have each other's back and depend on each other and have that mental area where are comrades to the end, etc. But in this story - an incident happened and the team chose sides! Some sided with guy #1 and others sided with Guy #2 ( this happened in the preceding book in this series). I really don't think the SEAL/Special Ops would have let this happen. So it kind of made an amazing group of dedicated military men look/sound like a bunch of street bums. I was a bit ticked off by that, even tho I know this is fiction - the SEALS are not. #2 I know the F word is common and everyone uses it and I know that men of this stature would probably use it, however, in this book I feel the F word was used far to much, making the SEALS sounds like a bunch of empty-headed, uneducated slobs. Chapter 1 - 10 times, Chapter 2, 2 times. Chapter 3, 24 times. Chapter 4,20 times. Chapter 5, 5 times. Chapter 6, 7 times. Chapter 7, 16 times. Chapter 9, 16 times. and after that, I stopped counting. It was used when it didn't have to be. It was just too prominent like the author was trying to meet a word count or something. It made the SEALS sound like trash. Using the word sometimes was acceptable as I am sure what they go through, proper language is the least of their concerns however, in this story - it was just used to many times when and it didn't' add anything to the scene or the character. The 6th word in the book was F#&$.
There was also a lot of narrative. It just drug on and on. Also, Langely was kidnapped with Sarah. When rescued, she was taken somewhere - and never mentioned again in the story. Where'd they take her and why? What was up with that? It added no importance to the story.
It got pretty good the last 25% of the book - some clues were unexpectedly found, someone gets seriously shot, and a few other things happened that were really good perks to the story.
Romance trope: romantic suspense; second chance Series: Operation: Hot Spot Length: 325 pages
Plot: Brett wishes that he could stop Sarah's wedding, especially after she left him with no real explanation. But her fiance, Mitch, isn't what he seems, and Sarah knows this better than anyone. In his bid for revenge against Brett (Tag), Mitch will do anything, and Sarah is caught in the crossfire, leaving Tag to save her.
Commentary: I did enjoy this story, but like Tag, I couldn't imagine why Sarah wouldn't go to the authorities with what she knew. I understand wanting to protect your baby brother, but knowing that he was a drug addict who couldn't kick the habit and knowing that the sale of stolen military weapons would lead to death all around the world, it seems like the choice wasn't as complicated as she was trying to make it. I could understand why he was so upset with her (although hatred might be a little strong). I honestly don't know how she avoided any sort of charges. I do love that his friend was like, "you're doing the same thing as her, don't be a hypocrite."
The one thing I hated: “Anyone tell you what a fucktard of a patient you make?” I think that a lot of people use that term and don't realize how ableist it is. I know that people use it, and that sort of language flourishes in certain atmospheres, but I find it really gross - it equates stupidity with disabilities, and even doing so with an intellectual disability in mind turns the characteristics of a disability into an insult, and that's not okay.
SEAL Brettt ’Tag’ Taggart Clarke knew he did the right thing when he reported Mitch Armstrong, a co-SEAL for theft. But Mitch smoothly had a patsy waiting in the wings and a plan to devastate Tag in the process. Tag was completely blindside when schoolteacher Sarah Gillespie dumped him and went back to Mitch. It made no sense.
When those two pieces of news came out, almost everyone decided Tag lied about Mitch because of Sarah. Despite her seeming attitude about Mitch, Sarah was marrying Mitch in a few days. But things got out of hand quickly when Sarah was kidnapped minutes before the wedding because of Mitch’s debt and he had no plan to get her back. Tag and his friends rescue Sarah. She baffles Tag again by sneaking out hours later, Tag suspects Sarah’s meeting Mitch and follows her.
Not my favorite of the series. Leads Sarah and Tag were a bit idiotic and (repeatedly) tried to claim fault for the overlong fiasco; villain Mitch added excitement to his appearances. Also, the first half of the read felt like pointless filler and; Sarah had so much concern about her brother and BFF who both seemed to be afterthoughts. Rating: 3.75stars
Another great SEAL story that had me holding my breath.
I have to confess I am a Trish McCallan fan having loved her “Forged In” full length novel quadrilogy (or tetralogy). This stand-alone novel was great, utilising some of the wonderful side characters we had met before.
Tag is having to stand by and watch Sarah, for whom he has carried a torch despite being dumped 2 years ago, marry the scumbag she dumped him for.
I was hooked by the drama and race to see how the Tag and Sarah could possibly get out of the awful mess they were in, with the loyal friendship and support of true Seal team buddies we’d met before. Well researched technical details and gizmos made the story more credible.
Some sins seem unforgivable, plus stubbornness and misunderstanding under the cloud of the manipulative villain make you despair. All the while, the passion is smouldering until finally it re-ignites no holds barred and definitely bared.
I enjoyed reading it, hope you will too.
Can’t wait for Dev and Madeline’s story.

FUTURE UNDER FIRE (Operation Hot Spot Book #4) By Trish McCallan This is the story I have been waiting for, Brett Taggert “Tag” and Sarah! Two years later and Tag is still hurt, and does not understand why Sarah broke his heart out of the blue & hooked up with another seal that he knows is unscrupulous. When Sarah is kidnapped on the day she is supposed to be marrying Mitch after having postponed the date twice, Tag, along with teammates Lucas Trammel and Devlin Russo get involved to try to find her. The more he learns about Sarah and her situation, the more questions he has to try to get answered. Trish always writes solid romantic suspense drama, that have great engaging characters with hot passion between them, and this is no exception. I stayed up late reading as I could not put it down. I loved this one, and consider it a 5 star story.

FYI this is "Bound By Deception" from Trish McCallan just under a new name. Don't be fooled into getting this series twice. Her series "Under Fire" are the same and corresponding in Book number to the "Bound By" series originally published in 2015.
Don't get me wrong, I love Trish McCallan's books, just irritated that the same series was renamed and no notation was made. I originally read the "Bound By" series in Kindle Unlimited. I have to assume, that is why these are being republished under a new series name. The interesting part is that book 4 of the new series is being released June 20, 2020, which is 7 days in the future. That is why I already can mark it as "Read" on my bookshelves before it is published.
Interestingly, there appears to be an upcoming 5th book, which may be a new book or a reprint of something else since there were only 4 books in the "Bound By" series.
How far would you go to protect your loved ones? Our heroine, Sarah, makes the difficult sacrifice when she's left with only one option to protect her brother and her boyfriend, and our Hero, Brett Taggert (Tag). She knows her slimy fiance is up to something, but she uses her wit to buy herself some time to find a solution to save her loved ones. Tag, on the other hand, can't figure out why Sarah suddenly turned her back on him. When she goes missing right before her wedding, truths start spilling out which create a different wedge between the two. Sarah's belief that the love she and Tag shared will be worth all the sacrifices she's had to endure, but will he still be around once she has the chance to explain? I loved the chemistry between Sarah, our courageous heroine, and her stubborn SEAL, Tag!
There's lots going on in Future Under Fire including gun running, treason, blackmail, a dirty operator and much more. Misplaced loyalties and the enabling of her younger brother's addiction problems put Sarah in a no win predicament. She had to spurn the man she truly loved to keep him safe or so she thought. For two years Tag tried to get Sarah to see that her fiance was not who she thought he was and definitely not one of the good guys. He'd even incurred the disdain of another SEAL team for seemingly trying to poach a teammate's woman. Rescuing her after a kidnapping is only the tip of the iceberg. Events unfold rapidly and the danger only escalates. She may not love him but he will keep her protected even if it's from herself.
Tag has been in all the books and they all mentioned Sarah and how he wasn’t over her. Now we meet Sarah and find out what caused the breakup. Thing’s definitely are not what Tag thought and the story goes south quickly with a kidnapping, drugs, death, gun running and bullets flying. In between all the action we see more of Tags team, those who believed him and those who didn’t as well as other members protecting Sarah’s friend. Along with the action and intrigue of finding out the who and what, we dee Sarah and Tag work out their problems and face some scary and intense moments. The ending is sweet and funny, overall a fun and quick read!
Beware this book was a nail biter, so be prepared to read until you finish!!
Beware this book was a nail biter, so be prepared to read until you finish. I loved both main characters, and the plot's twists and turns, steamy scenes, adventure, danger, and romance will keep you turning the pages. The chemistry is off the charts. The emotion is real. The journey itself. Unforgettable. This book is the perfect escape from everyday stress. Can’t wait to read more by this amazing author. Happy reading everyone!
Sarah gave up everything to protect the two men she loves most in the world. Now the lies are coming to light Yes she kept secrets, yes she told lies, but it was worth it, right? Tag'll probably never forgive her. Now all she can do is help him bring justice to the one person she hates more than anyone. Before he kills again

There is not one single thing I can say that I did not like about this book. I love the suspense and the action and the characters. My gosh, Brett or Tag, is a perfect hard headed, over protective, but not really, loyal hard hitting hero. The story is just great. Sarah is a perfect match for him and a great main female character. Love it.

I have loved all of this author's novels in this series and wish to read more. The story is strong, very well-narrated, not too much sex description and so on. Except in this novel, the constant use of two names for the main characters - such as Brett and Tag for the same person, gets confusing especially for foreign readers. Nevertheless, thanks a ton for the good read.
Lots of action and suspense. Romantic suspense done right. What a fabulous read. I always new Tag was an awesome guy so I couldn't wait for his story. It was just as good as I hoped.
Highly recommend.
Best part, I forgot I still have the last Dark Falls book to read as well.
Future Under Fire is a fast pace story with a strong storyline. Brett Taggart aka Tag is our leading male. If you have been following this series you have heard about Tag and Sarah well guess this is their HEA. We are introduced to some characters from Dark Fall as well as Langley and Ryder from a Patti O'Shea. Happy Reading!!
Sarah broke up with Tag and went back to her evil ex in an attempt to keep her brother and Tag safe. Now her brother is missing and she's in danger. This story is fast-paced and has strong characters with plenty of bad decisions and good intentions. It took Tag too long to come to his senses but he did finally get there. A sweet ending.
This was exciting with plenty of mystery, steam, and adventure to highlight your day. I can't wait to read the next book and now I want to read the first ones in the series as well.
