ATLAS People think that I’m a nice guy. They’re wrong! What they see is the polished, non-threatening, good guy that I want them to see. It helps distract them from the darkness within me. No one can know that I have a sick mind like my dad, the infamous monster from the Red Manor Cult. Except, unlike him, I suppress my urge to dominate, hurt, and control. Every day, I tell myself that I’m NOT my father; that I’m a better man. But after Jolene began working for me, my control is slipping. It feels like there’s a wolf inside me, stirring, growling, and pushing to get to Jolene. The fantasies of the disturbing things the wolf wants to do to her, haunts me. I can’t allow the wolf to get control over me… or Jolene! Atlas is the second installment in Elin Peer’s contemporary romance series, Cultivated. Her books are fast-paced, thought-provoking, and always offer humor and a solid romance story at the core. For the best reading experience and to avoid spoilers, it’s recommended that you start with the first book in the series, called Charlie.
LUMI #3 Damian took a bullet for me when I was seventeen. He didn’t ask for my heart in return, but it’s been his ever since. We are as different as night and day. He’s fun-loving and outgoing while I’m skeptical of new people and prefer to avoid social events. So, why did I agree to be handcuffed to him for a full week in the name of science? It’s not because he dared me to do it, or because I need the money that comes with it. I’m the CFO of Solver Industries, after all. It’s because I’m turning twenty-nine, and I’m sick and tired of my heart comparing every man to Damian when my brain knows full well that he’s far from perfect. If my plan works, an overdose of the large Irishman should kill my crush on him and finally set me free. Lumi is the third installment in Elin Peer’s psychological drama series, Cultivated.

Charlie: This is the first book in a new series and boy does it start with a bang. Liv met Charles in college and was drawn to him. Charles was attached of Liv but with all his problems he doesn’t act on them. 5 years later he has become involved in a cult but like most people in that situation he does not realize it. Liz is sent by his grandfather to get him out and that when the pages start to fly. Super intense and sometimes hard to read. It’s scary to think someone can have that much control over people to manipulate them do anything. There is a explosive conclusion. I’m anxious to read more of this series. It will be interesting to see where it goes from here. Atlas: Conner O'Brien might be dead but his legacy of death and horror still lives on. All of his children are still scared in one way or another. Atlas Robertson is obsessed with finding out what makes people join cults. He is freaked out by the darkness in himself. Jolene Fisher goes to work for him to interview ex cult members. She’s also running from a serious threat. This series is heartbreaking and uplifting to see these gifted children grow up and overcome being raised by a monster. One of the reasons I love Ms. Peers writing is it is they are definitely not run of the mill. She always puts in her own unique perspective that make her books stand out. Another winner you wont want to miss. Lumi and Damian’s book is next and I cannot wait. Lumi: OMG!!! This is the best book in this series so far. Damian grabbed my attention in the first book so I was happy this book was about him and Lumi. Handcuffed together for a week. I was kind of hard on Lumi at first until I realized what happened in the past to make her act the way she did. There are a lot of hurdles for this couple to overcome to get to there Happy Place. It also sets the events in motion for the next book. Complex characters, controversial subjects and a story line that keeps you coming back for more. 2 people found this helpful
I've read each of these books individually. This is a great price for some really great books. Below are my reviews for each book. I can't recommend them enough!
Charlie Oh my gosh! The woman can write!!! Elin Peer, I want to be you when I grow up. On second thought, I'd rather just enjoy the fruits of YOUR labor! Every story I've read from Mrs. Peer I have loved (and I have read them all). These are romance stories, but oh so much more. In this new series we get to discover the world of cults and master manipulators. Yes, you read that right. Like I said, it is a love story, but so much more. If you aren't familiar with Elin Peer's books, you need to get yourself familiar. This is as good a place to start as any! Seriously, what are you waiting for? Once click right now!!!
Atlas This new series started out on a high note and with book two we continue to soar. These books are your typical romance stories. They have sustenance as well as a sweet romance. There is a depth to them as they tackle the subject of cults. Jolene is the perfect match for Atlas. She's the yin to his yang and you can't help but root for them as you follow their developing relationship. I highly recommend this series as I do with all of Elin Peer's books. They are well worth it!
Lumi This new series by Elin Peer is probably her best yet. I take that back. Her Slave series was pretty awesome, and the Color series rocked. Oh, and let's not forget the Men of the North Series! *Sigh* I don't think the woman can write a bad book! This latest installment in the Cultivated series is one that I couldn't put down once I picked it up. Yeah, I lost sleep that day. It's one of those books where you keep saying "one more chapter" and before you know it you look at the clock and realize you have to be up in 2 hours. Well worth it. Definitely worth it.
Book 1 - Charlie: Five years ago, Liv met Charles in a coffee shop but nothing came out of it. Present day, Liv is trying to get Charles out of the cult leader’s hook. Within the story, the author was able to explain in simple terms the difference between a narcissist, a sociopath and a psychopath. Ms. Peer is educating her readers while telling an unusual love story between two unique individuals. This book manages to delve into the mind of a cult leader and shows how dangerous it is to fall prey to them. It has a well-crafted plot and convinces you that intelligent or not, you can fall victim to a psychopath. Very fascinating read!
Book 2 - Atlas: If you like your romance stories smart, steamy and not contrived, this is your book. You may want to read Charlie first to have a robust understanding of the trauma Atlas and his siblings have lived through. This book shows how Atlas is coping with it and how his father’s actions are affecting him. It is still a romance with hot sex in it but it also deals with domestic abuse, bullying, and mental issues in a way that is smart and enlightening. It is an excellent read that was hard to put down.
Book 3 - Lumi: In between what is happening with Lumi and Damien in the present, the author is little by little revealing the history of their relationship. It was a brilliant approach to narrating the background story without jarring the current narrative. It was smoothly interspersed which I thought was brilliant. Another brilliant move by the author is the use of a social experiment. It engages a reader’s mind as well as showcase the leashed steam between Damien and Lumi. This book is another intriguing and enjoyable read in the Captivated series.
Lumi Enjoyed the look into Lumi's life and how she learned to cope in such a short time after years of keeping everything close to the vest and finding out her and Damian through the years had gone through their own trials. Liv and Charles think of them as their kids and try to make sure that they listen and try to encourage them all. Jolene is definitely a boost in helping all of the siblings go out into the world with their best foot forward even though the pack between them might hinder recovery a bit in some ways they are not quite aware of but time will tell. A Really beautiful story of how what happen did something different and damaging to each child now adult in different ways. Romantic suspense. Atlas Wow! I would say the 2nd book in this series is just as fascinating. Jolene is on the run but doesn't really believe that is what is happening she just wants to start a new life and job in Chicago where nobody knows her name. Atlas is all grown up now running C.M. Research and looking for a new employee. Romantic thriller with suspense and action. Enjoyed the characters and the storyline was entertaining. Charlie Charlie is an absolute winner for me. Charlie and Liv will have you shaking your head and asking so many questions while reading his book. The characters were so believable, the emotions and the situations had you on the edge of your seat to see what happens next. The storyline and the issues that are shown in the book examines how what happened to Charlie and Liv could potentially happen to anyone looking for something to hold on to. I was given an opportunity to review this box set without obligation. I am providing an honest review.
If you were to ask me my favorite from this set, it would be the first one. It had it all: danger, comedy, romance and some investigative psychology rescue work. Not to mention, Liv is easy to like and Charles is sweet enough. The growth shown in this book was amazing to see. I liked Atlas and Jolene bit, as well, but did very little to make me laugh and steal some one-liners for my IRL sarcasm. Everyone is easy to like, even tho some were at the end of the list. One thing tho, Atlas's book says they (the whole family) met Kit and Damian on that fateful terrible night, but not true. They met the children then, Liv met them way before then. Now, I have no idea if you have read my review for Lumi's book and my take on their age gap. Nor the whole, "he met her when she was 17, saw her grow into a woman, 11y and counting", it's not comfortable. I can't pull the imaginary hair of men of the world and let fictional men get a pass. If they didn't mention the gap so many times, or the 17-26 age at the time they met, it would be easy to forget the whole thing and make her be in her 30 up instead of 30 down. I do love to see the "siblings" love and support system, but damn, they really should continue with therapy in their adult lives. People don't save you, you save yourself. That cult might have had some truths to it, but still a cult.
All three volumes showed growth and that in focusing on. Sorry for any errors, I'm on my tiny screen and autocorrect is a fucker!
The Cultivated Box combines Charles, Atlas and Lumi stories. These stories are a mixture of romance and suspense. Each of these books have a different story to tell but at the end, they are all linked to one another. This is the story of 2 people who share the same name Charlie, they lost contact and after a while find one another inside a Cult in Ireland. The more you progress into “Cultivated series”, the more you discover the story of their children (Atlas and Lumi) and their struggles. Directly or indirectly, each of these people have been badly affected by the Cult. Each of them try to find some normality in their life and relationship. With the love and the patience of their partners, can Charles, Atlas and Lumi be rescued and saved from their past. In the “Cultivated series”, Elin Peer immerses us into the world of cults and its associated dramas. This is more than a romantic novel as it extends into how one might perceive these cults operate. This provides a depth to the story making it deeply involving and gripping. Furthermore, the series is also about family, unity, friendship and love. I enjoyed these books immensely.
So often we hear about the damage of a cult when it’s disbanded or ends in a catastrophic manner. These books start in the middle and you see how a cult leader gains power but it goes farther. Years later after the cult these books by Elin Peer go a little deeper and take us into a world where now grown children try to move on from a cult and the devastating emotional turmoil it leaves behind. As they piece together their lives and find love each group has to first deal with the damage that surviving a cult entails.
Anyone who likes having a story where there’s inner dialogue and characters that start as victims but grow into strong survivors will enjoy this book. I enjoyed that the villain can sometimes be the demons you fight in yourself. It was positive and uplifting. Of course the romance aspect was fun but also was a good motivation for personal growth for the characters and pushed them out of their comfort zones and left them as survivors instead of victims so it didn’t detract from the story lines at all.
Well written about psychological science and respected by same families resources to help each other. Romantic relationship between friends are known for longer years.Recommended
