The arrangement is simple: two weeks in Spain then a marriage of convenience. Until Garth Outlaw’s potential bride doesn’t show and pilot Regan Fairchild ends up sharing his bed. But Garth has vowed never to love again. Can Regan convince him the wife he needs and the woman he desires are one and the same?

This is an African American Romance Fiction, and this is the first book in the Westmoreland Legacy: The Outlaws series. The two main characters are Garth and Regan, and they both really like each other. Regan works for Garth, and Garth as lost his love of his life not to long ago. I love the characters in this book, and at times it got really hot and sexy. I think the storyline was good. Once I started reading this book I could not put it down, and I love when a book does that to me. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Harlequin Desire) or author (Brenda Jackson) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Felt a little choppy but sweet n spicy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Even though this story has a familiar plot, Jackson manages to add her special twists to really envelop the reader. For one the main characters happen to know each other extremely well and both actually have crushes on each other, but who knew! Keeping it professional is mandatory!
It’s fun to watch them slowly come in to the realization that they could and would be a great fit and are actually perfect for each other.
While we know about her heated crush since she was a teenager, it seemed a bit abrupt with Garth’s realization or admittance of the fact he has been infatuated for years. But once he admitted it to himself and opened that door, he became very upfront and embraced a seemingly short relationship with Regan.
The Wife He Needs is easy to read with minimal angst! Just missing that special touch and better flow in some spots.
With a fabulous exotic locale we get to experience plus some hot and spicy connections between the two, this story is perfect to warm us up on a chilly winter’s day.
The Wife He Needs by Brenda Jackson is Westmoreland Legacy: The Outlaws Book 1. This is a Mills & Boon Romantic Suspense: Heart-racing suspense, adventure and romance under extraordinary circumstances.
The six Outlaw siblings are cousins to Brenda Jackson’s famed Westmoreland characters. This first book is, eldest son, thirty-eight-year-old Garth’s story.
Garth Outlaw, former Marine and oldest son of Bartram “Bart” Outlaw, is planning to enter into a loveless marriage. He’s resigned himself to the idea of a marriage of convenience. Unfortunately, or fortunately, his plans are altered, and he’s spending two weeks with Regan Fairchild and not the woman he was expecting to marry. He’s attracted to Regan but that’s all it is: attraction.
Regan Fairchild, corporate pilot for Outlaw Freight Lines, knows that she’s the woman for Garth, whether he realizes it or not. Now they’re unexpectedly vacationing together. Should she continue to hide her feelings or risk it all with a man reluctant to open himself to love?
The Wife He Needs is a nice start to a new romance series. It perfectly preps for the series with a great introduction to the Outlaw siblings. The characters are likable with integrity. It’s a quick, entertaining read, the perfect length and pace. Beautiful scenery: Spain and Alaska. Brenda Jackson has crafted a successful formula for an engaging romance: beautiful people, beautiful locales, and most importantly, passion. My mind was fully engaged and entertained but not blown, thus a 4 out of 5 star rating. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and recommend it to all readers who enjoy contemporary romance.
Third-born Cash and his story are next: The Marriage He Demands. I look forward to its release.
My thanks to HARLEQUIN – Romance (US & Canada) and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.
Wow! Hooked from the first page and hated to see it end!
Regan Fairchild is Garth Outlaw's personal pilot. He is close to her father and she is close with his family as well. His brothers are very protective of Regan.
Although Garth is attracted to her, he fights it every step of the way. He doesn't have a clue that Regan is also fighting HER deep feelings for him
When the woman, he is flying to Spain to meet, doesn't show up, Garth decides to invite Regan for a platonic vacation. However, when Regan realizes Garth will never see her the way she sees him, Regan resigns from the Outlaw Corporation. The meeting that follows, with Garth's outraged brothers, is hilarious. (I'm still laughing over that bad boy!)
I'm quickly falling in love with the Outlaw brothers. I read the fist two books out of sequence. I read Cashen's story first before his big brother Garth.
Garth thought he could never love again, but realized it was time for him to marry and start a family. He planned a two week trip with a woman from an exclusive dating agency, but things didn't go as planned or did they?
Regan isn't just Garth's pilot and occasional driver she is also a family friend. Unbeknownst to Garth, Regan has been in love with him for years. A year ago Garth and Regan went to a Westmoreland event together and everyone noticed what Garth did not. Garth didn't want to love another woman. He thought he couldn't, but boy was he wrong.
Catching up with the Westmoreland clan is always great fun
I received an advanced reader copy from Harlequin Desire via Netgalley
Garth is getting up there in years, and is looking to settle down. He arranges to meet up with a woman through a matchmaking service for 2 weeks abroad, and gets no showed. He has already arrived, flown by his long time friend Regan to the destination. He invites Regan to stay, and she decides to take this opportunity to make sure that he knows she has more than friend feelings for him. This is beautiful and stunning. The end conflict was a little predictable, but I still really enjoyed the journey to get us here. Definitely need to prioritize my other Brenda Jackson novels now!
Brenda Jackson knows how to write a book boyfriend. The moment Garth graces the canvas he takes up the page. Your heart leaps into overdrive. Your senses take notice. You can't wait to see what happens next. When Regan comes on the scene, there's a shift. The heat level explodes and their dynamic takes up all the air in the room. No one does romance like Ms. Jackson. The Wife He Needs is a sentimental sizzler that packs heart. Familiar faces, new acquaintances and combustible romance turn up the heat.
Another winner, this time with the Outlaws, cousins of the Westmoreland's.
So if you have read the Westmoreland stories, then you know the discovery of their cousins the Outlaws I believe came in Bailey Westmoreland's book (which was the finale of their series), and correct me if I am wrong.
So Garth is looking at his life, being a man in his thirties and the CEO of his father's company and feels the need to settle down and have children to continue the "Outlaw Legacy" not looking to marry for love but will be faithful to the woman he settles down with. His baby sister Charm convinces him to sign up for an exclusive and elite dating service, that would essentially pair you with a prospective wife. All seems to be going as planned until the agency screws up the timing, so what was supposed to be a two week getaway to get to know the woman, Garth finds himself going to Santa Cruz alone.
Regan Fairchild has been in love with Garth since she was a teenager, pining away for him, although he only saw her as the little sister of his dad's bestfriend, her Mr. Fairchild who was his personal pilot for 40 years, now since retired and moving to Florida. Regan has taken over as pilot but to Garth. Sweet job, great boss, what more could she ask for? Maybe for him to finally see her as the woman.
Oh but the surprise is on Regan because Garth has been seeing her ever since the Westmoreland's Charity Ball (Duty or Desire). Now with him no longer meeting the woman, Garth convinces Regan to stay in Santa Cruz and vacation. Regan agrees and maybe this is her chance to show Garth that she is, all the wife he needs.
A great story to the Outlaw series and longer forward to reading the about the rest of the family.
Good start to the new series about the recently discovered Outlaw branch of the Westmoreland family. The various members are introduced in Breaking Bailey's Rules, including the fact that family patriarch Bartram Outlaw wants nothing to do with the Westmorelands. His kids, however, are happy to meet their cousins, some of whom make brief appearances in this book.
Garth is the oldest of the Outlaws and in charge of running the company. He decided it is time to get married, but there's a catch. Years earlier, while in the Marines, Garth fell in love with a woman who was killed in action. He believes he can't (or is it won't) fall in love again, so he plans a marriage of convenience. He has a two-week getaway scheduled with a woman he met through a dating service to see if they would suit. But when he arrives at his destination, the woman is a no-show, leaving him at loose ends. So he asks Regan, his pilot and longtime friend, to stick around.
Regan has known Garth all of her life. Her father was the Outlaws' pilot before her, and she grew up with the Outlaw kids as friends. However, her feelings for Garth are decidedly not friendly. She had a crush on him from the time she was sixteen, and in recent years that crush turned to love. Regan knows he only sees her as a friend. Even though she's been a fill-in date a few times, she longs for more. When he invites her to stay with him for those two weeks, she sees her chance to show him she can be what he needs.
I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Regan and Garth. We know Regan's feelings from the beginning, but Garth's are more complicated. He's sure he will never love another and plans to enter a loveless but convenient marriage. One motivating factor for the marriage is the inconvenient attraction Garth feels for Regan. He thinks that marriage will solve that problem. For the first couple of days Regan and Garth spend together both struggle to hide their attraction though some of it leaks through their erected shields. Garth gets the bright idea that they can indulge themselves for the two weeks, as long as she realizes that love and marriage are not in the cards. Though Regan is stunned and angry at first, she decides that the best way to show Garth what he needs is to give him what he thinks he wants.
I loved watching Garth and Regan spend time together. While their physical connection was intense, the time they spent otherwise occupied deepened their emotional connection. Many scenes of shared interests, from performances to hikes to cooking, brought them closer together. They also shared some more painful memories, such as Regan's loss of her mother and Garth's loss of his fiancée. But Garth is a hard nut to crack, and their return to Alaska ends their affair.
I ached for Regan, who had such high hopes, only to have them dashed by Garth's actions. Meanwhile, Garth is deservedly miserable without Regan. By the time he sees the truth of his feelings, matters become complicated by an unexpected visitor. I ached for Regan and how, devastated, she makes a hard decision about her future. I loved the scene with Garth's siblings and the kick in the pants they provided. Garth did an excellent job of not quite groveling but finally opening up his heart to her. I loved the ending and Garth's over-the-top demonstration of his love.
I enjoyed getting to know a little bit about each of the Outlaw Westmorelands. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would also like to find out the story behind Bartram Outlaw's attitude about his Westmoreland family.
THE WIFE HE NEEDS by Brenda Jackson was Harlequin Desire #2773 (Dec. 2020) and the first book in Brenda Jackson's new Westmoreland spin-off series, "Westmoreland Legacy: The Outlaws," about their relations in Alaska, the similarly-wealthy Outlaw family. I've read two previous books by the author: "The Secret Affair" (Harlequin Desire #2341, Dec. 2014), which I think is the book that first introduced Garth Outlaw (he has a cameo near the end) and "Breaking Bailey's Rules" (Harlequin Desire #2407, Nov. 2015) which was about Garth's best friend Walker falling in love with Bailey Westmoreland. In this new novel, Garth Outlaw falls in love (eventually) with the pilot of his private jet (and occasional chauffeur) Regan Fairchild, a longtime friend of the Outlaw family. I think these Westmoreland books grow on the reader the more that they read them, or at least that was the case for me. The first one I read I didn't like that much, since I found all the characters' names and histories confusing. The second one I read was more enjoyable and I found less confusing. This new book is the most enjoyable of the three that I've read and I look forward to reading the next one ("The Marriage He Demands"), which is scheduled to be released in April 2021. However, to the first-time reader, the text's frequent mentions of characters from past (and perhaps future) books in the saga may be hard to grasp.
Garth Outlaw is the hero of this novel, the oldest (38 years old) of the Outlaw brothers, and the heroine Regan is 28, although they have many similar interests despite the age difference. Both Garth and Regan have piloted planes since they were teenagers, both are good swimmers, and both are "fluent in several languages." Regan is also a gifted piano player and had been a model during her teenage years, having "appeared on the covers of a number of Alaskan teen fashion magazines." In case she seems too good to be true, it turns out that she's not the best cook, but Garth happens to be an excellent cook having learned to do so from an early age from the family's private chef. Garth wants to settle down and get married, but feels that he can never love another woman again like he loved Karen, a fellow Marine who died in Syria several years earlier. He attempts to find a mate for a loveless marriage through an online dating service, but the arrangement is cancelled due to an error and so he spends the planned two-week vacation in Santa Cruz, Spain with Regan instead (who had flown him there). During this time together, the two learn of each other's longtime romantic and sexual interest in each other. I was pleasantly surprised that this novel wasn't as steamy throughout as the other two Westmoreland novels that I'd read, giving more time to the couple's history than their sexual urges (until the last half of the book). The story is 218 pages long, and their first kiss doesn't occur until page 106, and the second kiss not until page 138. This is followed by a long and effective undressing scene that runs 5 pages, followed by a short sex scene (pages 146-148). There are a few more sex scenes in the book of around 3 pages each, so it's not as if the book doesn't eventually get there, but it takes its time getting there, letting the feelings of the couple develop first. I appreciated that the author shows that "desire" alone is not enough, that love is also needed to truly bring them happiness. I'm rating the book 3.5 stars, which means that I enjoyed it.
Garth Outlaw has just about everything he wants and needs in life - everything but a wife. So he joins a site and finds what he thinks is the perfect woman. He plans on making her his wife and, along the way, remove love as a factor. He arranges for a two-week getaway to get to know her. His pilot Regan is prepared to fly him to his destination, but Garth learns that his plans have fallen through.
As he is a workaholic, one of his friends suggests keeping his plans and asking Regan to join him. This could work, right? The only hang up? Regan Fairchild has been in love with Garth for years. Friends since childhood, her feelings for him have indeed morphed. Should she accept his offer to spend the time with him on his vacation, will she be able to hide her feelings? Better yet, will this be the time for Regan to tell Garth how she feels? Will Garth be able to see beyond their friendship and business relationship and move things to another level?
Garth and Regan begin their vacation together just fine as friends. However, the transition to more proves to be something that both of them want, not just Regan. Garth begins to notice more and more about Regan and this most definitely changes the course of their relationship. This story is filled with an even balance of emotion and heat, making this book by Brenda Jackson a delightful story.
Many thanks to Harlequin Desire and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
The Wife He Needs is the first in the Westmoreland Legacy: The Outlaws.
Years after his wife's death, Garth Outlaw is finally ready to get married again. He is seeking a partnership and a woman willing to accept that his heart will always belong to his wife. He thinks he has found that woman but when she does not show up for their getaway, Garth invites Regan to vacation with him.
Regan Fairchild is a private pilot who has worked for the Outlaw family for years. She has been in love with Garth for a long time and jumps at the chance to spend two weeks with him though she knows she is a replacement. She hopes to convince Garth to see her, not just as a friend, but as the woman he needs.
Both Garth and Regan are likeable and relatable. I loved the story overall and I found their passion believable. Regan remained true the entire book and I am all for putting yourself out there when it comes for love. Garth's story seemed to shift from the beginning. At first, it seemed as if he wasn't aware of his feelings but then later on, that changed where he was well aware of how he felt. I didn't get that part but it didn't detract from the overall storyline.
As usual, Brenda Jackson had me engaged. I love how she crafts her stories. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series. Thank you #Netgalley and #Harlequin
Title: The Wife He Needs Author: Brenda Jackson Publisher: Harlequin Desire Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Rating: Four Review:
"The Wife He Needs" by Brenda Jackson
My Speculation:
A good romance story that this author does so very well. "The Wife He Needs" is the first in this series that features Garth Outlaw and Regan Fairchild. As the story starts, it seems like Garth is looking for a bride from a dating service that doesn't show, so he invites the family pilot Regan to send two weeks in Santa Cruz, and she does. How will this work out? Did these two have some hidden feelings for one another? Why was it that Garth had feelings for Regan but said he would never fall in love again? Will they have an understanding that what goes on in Santa Cruz stay there after this trip all ends? I love how plans have a way of falling apart as it was for Garth! You will have to follow this story to get all of the above questions answered and more and see how well this author will bring out this well-written story so well to the reader.
If you are looking for an entertaining and enjoyable novel, you have come to the right place for "The Wife He Needs" will give it all to you.
I'm happy to review a book that is first in series. Garth Outlaw and Regan Fairchild meet after Garth's bride-to-be does not show up. This is a plotline I know from other books, but I could not resist downloading this after Harlequin Desire invited me to the blog tour. I books from another Brenda Jackson series, the Forged of Steele series. The other books I have reviewed by her are Seduced by a Steele and Claimed by a Steele.
Brenda Jackson really knows how to write hot fiction and develop characters and relationships well. I found myself hooked on this.
Thanks to Brenda Jackson and Harlequin Desire for my ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
I still can't get over the fact that why the hell did the female mc thought that you could win a man's heart by just sleeping with him and then he'll eventually fall in love with you. GIRL NO. THAT'S NOT HOW SHIT WORKS AROUND HERE! -_-
On top of that, the book seemed so basic and boring and I already saw problems that were gonna effect the relationship before they even happened. -_- I'm still going to read the next book though (lol).
“She loved him so much. He had no idea that she loved him. He thought all he wanted from her was sex, but she intended to make things so good between them that in the end he would think twice about letting her go build a future with another man. She was taking a gamble with her plan, but he was worth the risk.”
THE HEAT IS ON! Brenda Jackson delivers in The Wife He Needs: A Boss Employer Vacation Romance, the first book in her new Outlaws series. Here, we meet Garth Outlaw, a wealthy bachelor who has convinced himself that while it is time for him to settle down, love is not on the table. After losing Karen who proves to be the love of his life in a tragic accident, he has turned away from the possibility of opening himself in that way again. So when he begins to see his pilot, Regan Fairchild for the beautiful, amazing woman that she is, he immediately tries to push down any feelings he might develop for a simpler love affair.
One of the things I really enjoyed about Jackson’s love story (besides the hot and steamy incorporated scenes) is how commanding her main characters are. When they enter the scene and the wheels begin turning, the book becomes an instant page-turner. I’m looking forward to the next installment: The Marriage He Demands, highlighting Cash Outlaw’s story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Romance for granting me an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Garth Outlaw doesn't believe he will ever find love again, so he signs up for a dating service to find a woman who can marry him and not expect love. Reagan Fairchild has loved Garth since she was a teenager, but all he sees her as is his sister's friend and the company pilot. When Garth's dating service plan goes bust, he invites Reagan to spend two weeks in Santa Cruz with him. Despite fighting his attraction, he offers Reagan a proposal, two weeks of no expectations sex. She believes she can show him his heart can open up again after the tragic loss he suffered ten years ago, but they both might get more than they bargained for.
Brenda Jackson is a great writer. The book took me no time to read, and it was a great way to spend a snowy day. Garth is your typical billionaire boyfriend who doesn't want to open his heart, and Reagan is a strong female love interest who is more than her good looks. As expected with a romance, there is a complication at the end that makes it appear that all is lost in this romantic pairing.
This is a tried and true trope from an author who has a solid fan base. There is no new ground in this installment, but romance fans will want to add this series to their bookshelf if they are looking to add more diversity to their books.
Garth Outlaw decides now is the time for him to get married. He signs on to a dating website looking for a wife, His plan is simple: meet potential wife in Santa Cruz, spend two weeks together, arrange marriage of convenience. But that plan falls apart when the potential wife is a no show. So following his family's suggestion he invites the family pilot Regan Fairchild to spend those two weeks in Santa Cruz.
Both Garth and Regan have hidden feelings for each other but never pursued them. So they decide to use those two weeks enjoying each other with the understanding that it ends after that. But plans have a way of falling apart. Regan has been in love with Garth for awhile but is not willing to enter into a marriage of convenience. Garth has feelings for Regan but says he will never fall in love again. But once those two weeks are over Garth realizes he has been in love with Regan for awhile. Now he has to admit those feelings and convince Regan that he wants a real marriage with her.
Now we get the Outlaws (another line of Westmorelands). Nice start to a new line of the Westmorelands, but with it being a Harlequin romance there is only so far the author can take it. Reagan and Garth were not the couple that fell in love over night, but they were an employee/employer relationship. I don't want my words to be misunderstood. I love Brenda Jackson and the Westmoreland series and world, but it does feel like the basics are all repetitive. There are some unique elements. There was the glimpses if the extended family. There was the feel of family. And there was that two weeks in Santa Cruz Spain. The sightseeing. The opera. The plan that Regan put in place to win the man she love, but was willing to have love come later for herself. Watching Garth realize that he was in love with Regan and the figuring out how to tell her. The story trope maybe recycled and the outcome of love and marriage in the end. It was the journey for this couple.
Brenda Jackson knows how to create characters that are immediately likable. Within the first two pages of The Wife He Needs, we meet a family of hard-working, successful men who love each other and draw us into the pranks they play on each other. Garth Outlaw is a man whose love, once given, is never withdrawn. Regan Fairchild is as hard-working as any of the Outlaw clan. She chose her career as company pilot, following in her father's footsteps. Regan has loved Garth secretly for years. There is wonderful conflict set up between Garth and Regan. Garth, the older, very successful employer thinking about seducing Regan, a trusting, beautiful, young woman, whose social and financial status are far below Garth's. Unfortunately, it is difficult to slowly savor a Brenda Jackson romance. It is better to just go ahead and read it twice.
Another hot romance from the author of the Outlaw/Westmoreland saga. or
Thinking you can only have true love once in your lifetime, Garth is attracted to his personal pilot and family friend , Regan. He decided to invite her to join him for a 2 week vacation. He offers an affair only for the two weeks they're on vacation, and she accepts. Sparks fly and feelings change but is Garth able to admit his true feelings to Regan?
I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.
This was a quick read. It’s the first in the Westmoreland Legacy: The Outlaws series. We meet A LOT of characters right away which was a bit confusing. I enjoyed the hero and heroine and found them to be very attractive personalities. At time I definitely wanted more connection between them. This is a SLOW BURN! Don’t read it if you are looking for a fast burn, haha! I am looking forward to the next books!
I love a story with unique locales so, I enjoyed reading about Alaska and Santa Cruz. It makes me want to travel to both places. The relationship between Garth and Regan was unique in the fact that Regan was Garth’s personal pilot. I enjoyed going on the journey with them as they went from employer/employee to lovers. I liked the family dynamics between Garth and his siblings as well. I can’t wait to get their stories. Highly recommend!
After the combat death of his fiancée, Garth can't open himself to love again. Regan has loved him forever, but all he can offer is passion. Will she take a chance and prove to him that she's the wife he needs?
This steamy, emotional, well-crafted story from the great Brenda Jackson will touch your heart.
Just in time to start the holiday right. You will enjoy this romance, the characters and plot do not disappoint. Love is in the air, grab a copy and experience the thrill of a Brenda Jackson novel.
Some maybe tired of the Westmorelands but I’m not. Bring them on!!! I’m loving the outlaws and Garth reminds me of Dill when he took over the family. Cute story
