Broken Souls #5

My Dragon Lover

Rate this book
None of this is real… Not the severed head in the alley. Not the men who think they’re dragons. All of it is some bullshit cosplay gang war. Only I’m stuck in the middle. And if the “good” side is crazy, the “bad” side is downright murderous. So I’ll stick with the intense guy who’s my private security for now. Just until I know Grace is safe. And Daisy too. Then I’m getting the hell out of this place. Because I can’t afford to lose my job over this. Not after everything that’s happened… Jayda wants nothing to do with men who play dress-up. Ree’s not there to change her mind—his job is to protect her body, not win her heart. But keeping her safe means convincing her to stay, and he knows just how to keep a woman in his bed. But it’s a dangerous game... one his heart is certain he’ll lose. My Dragon Lover is a steamy dragon shifter romance that’ll heat up the sheets with love and warm your heart with dragonfire.

This is the fifth book in a wonderfully different and exciting series, this book tells us Jayda and Ree's story. The book is written in such a way that the author gives us enough of the backstory that you could jump in and read it as a standalone. But in my opinion, these books are better read in the order they were written.

Jayda is one of the ladies rescued from the Vardigah in an earlier book. She is trying to deny, to herself at least, that she was kidnapped and experimented on although she suffers still in the form of nightmares about what they did to her.

Ree is an older dragon, he's over 150 years and without a mate, he will die by the time he's 200. But if he should find his soul mate and bond with her, he and she will live another 150 years or so together. He had given up on finding his mate and was resigned to dying alone.

Jayda was taken by the Vardigah because they knew she was dragon spirited, now she's been rescued and is determined to live her life as normal. That means returning to work and keeping her job. When danger strikes she is forced to reluctantly agree to go with Ree who will act as her personal security guard and keep her safe.

Jayda has been hurt deeply by people she trusted, their betrayal has made trusting difficult, whilst Ree's instinct is to protect himself from hurt by allowing very few to get close to him. He knows that Jayda is his soulmate but feels unworthy.

Is there a chance for these two souls to find their future together?

The writing style and character building are excellent whilst the story flows well and was at times very moving. The connection/chemistry which developed between Jayda and Ree was very well described.

Alisa Woods ‘Broken Souls’ series continues to enthral! Three women, Grace, Jayda and Daisy, were captured by the Vardigah and kept in cells near to one another. Jayda was the strong one who kept them going even while her own soul was being torn apart by the Vardigah’s torture. After their rescue by the dragon shifters, her mind refuses to believe what really happened. She decided that they were two rival groups of cosplayers who she wanted nothing to do with. After all she’d had enough trouble at work having to explain her two week absence! Now she is at the opening of an exhibition that her fellow abductee is having at one of the most prestigious art galleries in New York. Imagine her surprise (and horror) when she sees the less creepy of the two groups of cosplayers approaching her? Then she is confronted with body parts of the Vardigah, complete with green blood! Green blood? She had to have imagined it! The next thing she knows she is in a car, blindfolded, and whisked into an apartment that has no windows. When she confronts her ‘captor’ Ree, he lets her leave the apartment and, to her disbelief, she finds herself in a chateau in France. From here on out poor Jayda is shown things that don’t seem real and all she can worry about is losing her job! But Ree is patient and goes above and beyond to help and reassure her. Their journey of discovery is not an easy one and Jayda finds herself a target for the Vardigah once again! I have to say that I really enjoy these books! We have read Grace’s story in ‘My Dragon Bodyguard’ and I am now looking forward to Daisy’s story. I have voluntarily reviewed this book after being privileged to receive an ARC from the author.

An absolutely enjoyable & entertaining dragon shifter romance which is the fifth book in the series “Broken Souls” It can be read as a standalone although I would recommend reading the series in sequence to fully understand the underlying story. The plot is well-written & entertaining with some unusual events. There is good scene descriptions & world building. The characters are quite unique & somewhat strong-willed; they display realistic emotional feelings while coming to terms with some unexpected situations.
There is: a disbelieving young woman (Jayda) is having a lots of unusual problems & only trusts her so-called personal male security guard (Ree) to a certain extent but Ree is a dragon shifter who is quite prepared to do anything to keep her safe, dragon shifters, dragon spirits, dark elves, witches, humans, soul mates, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, some humor, secrets, mystery, adventure, action, teleportation, deceit, betrayal, danger, threats, enemies, violence conflict, disbelief, distrust, memories, torture, discovery, some steam, contentment, love & a satisfying conclusion with a interesting ending. I look forward to the next book in the series with great anticipation & would recommend this book.

Ree didn’t start with a good impression. He knew he had a mate but carried on like normal which if fine because they were strangers. But it irked me that he acted like he cared about her safety but couldn’t be honest to her, Not to mention the biggest red flag is the cameras he has all over the house including her bathroom and shower for “security” and yet he masturbates to the feeds without her knowledge or consent. All she knew at the time is he was supposed to protect her.

The story did give some brief insight into Ree’s character but over all, this book was rushed and parroted whole paragraphs from her previous works. This was more of a insta love with almost non existent plot, just sex, which was cliched at best. I find this series lacking compared to her previous series Fallen Angles and Fallen Immortals and the Wilding Pack and Riverwise Security. Maybe my taxes have evolved or the quality of writing has changed. This is not a book for you if you want a plot with smut enhancing it. This series seems to rely over repetitive sexual situations over plot.

During reading the last book in the series ( Grace's story) we came across Ree sharing the apartment with Grace's mate. I was wondering why he was so reluctant to connect with Jayda, and was still going through other girls. If the dragon bond was supposed to be so strong, shouldn't he want to be with his other half?
In this book the mystery of his reluctance is solved. As much as his protective self is revealed. While Jayda is trying to tell herself that the two weeks nightmare was nothing more than two cosplay gangs, even she has to admit that teleportation proves the existence of magic. She's just not sure about the whole mate bond thing. And when she finally understands and decides to let Ree go to his mate, it almost guts both of them...

Another Hit-Out-of-The-Park Add to this Series

Ms Alisa Woods is one of my favorite authors. She gives relatable lives to all of her characters. When I was first introduced to Jayda earlier in the Series, I know I was going to love reading the journey to her HEA. I was NOT disappointed! When I first met Ree, I was not impressed with him. Jayda was such a smart, strong character. She was going to need a REALLY strong Hero to make a love connection believable. Well!! Like I said earlier, I was NOT disappointed! LOL!! I read this book in one seating. I couldn’t put it down! I’m really enjoying this Series! I received and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Jayda is dragon spirited and doesn't believe that she was kidnapped and experimented on by the Vardigah. When danger strikes she reluctantly agrees to go with Ree who over his existence has dared not hope to find his mate. This book has some layers to it and it some heat in it. It's fast paced, but will worth the read. This is book 5 and while the reader is brought up to speed enough to understand what is going on so you probably could just this one if you wanted, it's much better to read the whole series. I volunteered to read this book.

Dragon Cosplay

*****Spoilers*****

The story of Jayda and Alerie is cute. She's suspicious and guarded, disbelieving the world that includes dragons and magic early on, I laughed at her description of the cosplay she thought the dragons were engaging in. Alerie was intense and her protector and even though he tried to keep himself closed off, that only lasted for a day before he and Jayda burned together passionately. It's a short so not much depth and we don't get to know all about the characters or their backstory but I still liked it and them.

I'm so glad Ree got a book! Jayda is tough and strong and protective of herself due to her kidnapping. Ree is also very closed off. They are perfect for each other and just what the other needs to heal. The world the author creates is very interesting and Ree and Jayda are characters you will fall in love with.

My Dragon Lover...

A fantastic read. Delightful characters. Off the charts chemistry. Dramatic, angsty, passionate and WTF crazy. I read it out of sequence so I didn't know all the characters. However it is well written. Suspense, mystery and action make for the great flow of the book.

My Dragon Lover

I am really enjoying this whole series, and I especially liked this book. Red is a bit different than the other dragons, and Jayda is special as well. I loved their romance, and their HEA and how they worked out their lives together was truly sweet!

Part of a series that can be read as a stand alone story with a HEA ending. This said it is probably best read in order. I found it to be a light read and enjoyed it. Great character building. Several of the supporting characters have had story's of their own.

I really enjoy this whole series. Ree has his happy ending. The action is good, the romance is hot, and the ending is fabulous. The best part is that there is more to come.

Loved it! Rhee has been running from his mate. Jayda simply doesn't believe any of it. Can these two get their act together? Can't wait until the next book.

Compromise

Ree has an instinctive need to protect himself from hurts so he does not allow people to get close to him,

Jayda has been hurt deeply by several people she trusted and thought of as family. The betrayal made her lose everything so she had to start over.

Can these two wound souls finally let go and allow themselves to be open to love?
