For as long as she can remember, Sara Hansen dreamed of living in paradise. Sinking her family’s savings into the Pirate Cove resort, Sara and her husband relocate to the beautiful island of Sainte Isabel. But a shadow clouds the island’s pristine shores. And when Sara researches the island’s history, she uncovers tales of an ancient pirate named Lemaitre.
According to local legend, this cruel buccaneer was so evil, even Hell refused to claim his soul. And the island’s residents believe his haunted ship still prowls the waters off Sainte Isabel’s coast. When a shady salvage captain goes missing, Sara is convinced he has run afoul of the demonic pirate.
Ignored by the local police, she investigates the mysterious disappearance on her own. But some secrets were not meant to be disturbed. And Sara soon finds herself entangled in the terrifying curse of Lemaitre and his descendants.
The Devil’s ship sails on the full moon, ready to claim another soul. Will Sara be the next victim to join its cursed crew?
The opening of the book is fantastic. It really hooked me. As the story progressed, there was a great deal of history of the island and the inkling of suspense. While I expect the plot to slow down some, the next several chapters slowed down the story for me. There wasn't enough of the ship. The ending was predictable, but the characters of Sara and Keri are very interesting. The male characters are fairly one dimensional. For me, I would have preferred to stay with Sara perspective for the entire book.
However, it is a quick read and it is well written. There were a few errors in the book, but nothing that pulled me away from the story
This was a very well researched story with loads of historical facts and local (Creole) flavour. Voodoo, pirate ghosts, diabolical curses and a bunch of rich American males on the make. Mixed together we should have had a cracking story but, unfortunately, the plot tended to drag for long periods.
Disclaimer: I received this book for free from LibraryThing in return for an honest review.
After sinking all their savings into Pirate Cove resort on the Caribbean island Sainte Isabel, Sara Hansen and her husband relocate to the island. But Sara's island dream is turning into a nightmare. Their business partner is missing presumed dead and it appears that no work has been done on the resort due to the islanders' fear of the legend of the ancient pirate Lemaitre. Locals believe his haunted ship still prowls the island's coast claiming a soul every full moon. The police won't help her so it up to Sara to but a stop to the curse.
Overall I enjoyed the book however I felt it could have been fleshed out more. I feel like the story dragged a little. In my opinion it took a while to build the plot so it felt like not a lot was happening then the story suddenly reached it climax and ended right after.
Just about every book I have read from Scare Street has been excellent but this one ranks right up there at the top of the list. An American couple sinks their entire life savings into a resort development on a small Caribbean island. As with most islands in this region, there are scary legends that have been around for generations. Problem is, the particular legend of this island has some meat to its bones, as our couple is about to discover. This one has it all - pirates, ghosts, conspiracies, murder mysteries, even a little hanky-panky. What's not to love? The story here wraps up quite a bit at the end but there is still enough left to generate at least one or two sequels. According to the complete title, it is Book 1 of a series. That is great news for those of us who love books like this one. I can't wait for Book 2 and beyond.
Another will written fantasy world 🌎 haunting horror ghost 👻 demon witch adventure thriller novel by David Longhorn and Scare Street (Devil Ship Series book 1). About a resort being build on a beach 🌴 that is haunted on a Caribbean island. People are being killed by the ghost 👻 of a pirate that has been dead for several hundred years. But what an ending, continued in book 2. I would recommend this series and authors, Scare Street is one of my favorite group of authors. Enjoy the adventure of reading or listening to Alexa read books. 2022 😮👒😈
Instead of a wonderful new life, Sara is about to find her worst nightmares awaiting her in Paradise Cove. As they try to get the floundering resort off the ground, they are forced to confront not only local entities, but a dark haunting that has been waiting to be released. Will Sara, Joe, and their friends survive?
The story was interesting, but not exciting. The ending was pretty predictable, too many hints during the story made the ending predictable. I like a little more suspense and build-up to the ending.
I loved this book after reading a few of this author's books this is by far my favourite it has all ,exotic location, island myths and ghostly pirates out for revenge a great romp of a novel.
