Wildflower #1-3

The Wildflower Series

Rate this book
Meet the wolf pack everyone is falling in love with in this boxset of the three full-length novels in the Wildflower Series by Rachelle Mills!

CLAYTON, BOOK 1
The alpha was supposed to be mine. Our fates were decided by the Moon herself, but he chose to follow his own path to a future that didn’t include me.

Accepting my destined mate’s rejection was the hardest thing I ever had to do, and it cost me my pack, my friends, and in the end…my home.

DALLAS, BOOK 2
It still hurts, watching Clayton love the one he rejected me for, and it probably always will. My body still yearns for my destined mate, the Moon refusing to set us free from the bond that stems from the marrow of our existence.

Until Dallas.

CASSIUS, BOOK 3
Cassius Denver Valentine lost his mate…

Now he thinks he's a monster. I just think he's broken.

There's old blood on his hands and despite his efforts, it sticks to him like a second skin. I see the blood, but more so…I see him. And for some reason, he doesn't hide from me.

A writer of wolves who loves the grey

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Rachelle Mills is a 2016 Watty winner for Voracious Reads - Clayton, and Featured Writer on Wattpad where she first published the acclaimed read under her breakout pseudonym, Whiskeyqueenn.

Ms. Mills has won the devotion of her international “Wildflower Pack" fandom, new readers and critics alike for her fantastically realized paranormal universes, where alpha male and luna-made werewolves fight tooth and claw for hierarchy. And the often blood-red path of true love is made as rocky and perilous for them as possible by society and the capricious deities it serves. Her disturbingly relatable shifters at once frustrate and enthrall readers, drawn with an expert grasp of the real-life complexities with which she imbues these primal beings, yielding the eternal conflict between their controlled, infinitely human side and their vicious, virtually untamable were-side. Mills' emotive style is singularly descriptive, bringing her trademark dark romances with their grey characters to vivid life.

She comes by the broad knowledge base that informs her worlds’ ethnically diverse characters and mix of global cultural traditions organically.

Ms. Mills lives in Canada with her family of humans and two judgmental dogs.

It works best reading in the box, because it has a sense of continuity.
I continue to hate Kennedy and her and Clayton's selfishness destroyed many lives. But she is like a cancer that corrodes everyone's happiness throughout history and through her letters she continues to be the protagonist of a story that no longer belongs to her. I missed more chapters and an epilogue! 😁 I wanted to know more about the heroine who lost her voice and courage, but who was starting to recover.

Clayton - 1 star

I don't really read shifter books but so far, this one is not making much sense to me. The way Rya felt towards her mate was instinctive; it was not something that she could prevent or learn to live with. It was agony for her. Why would the pack not allow her to leave and live with another pack instead of forcing her to live a life of torture where she can't escape the sight and smell of the mate she can't have?

Also, there was WAY too much non-consent in this book. The way Cash treated Kennedy was horrific and even the way that Dallas treated Rya after her wolf marked him made my stomach turn.

Dallas - 1 star

I really tried to read this second book but once again, this author’s logic made zero sense.
a. In this world, it was physically impossible to resist the pull of your mate. Dallas knew this. EVERYONE knew this. Yet, he invited Rya’s mate, Clayton, to live with him, forcing Rya to be in close proximity to Clayton every day.
b. Dallas told Rya that he would always love his dead mate and that he would never have looked at Rya twice if his mate had still been alive, yet he expected Rya to “choose” him over her live mate.
c. He knew that Rya was “moon blessed”, meaning that her connection to her mate would be instantly severed if Dallas claimed her but he refused to do it until she “beat” her pull to her mate on her own something that WASN'T PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE.
I've had enough. DNF

So I finished the first book, and I’m not sure I’m going to continue.

This is a rejected mates story. And I guess I have a different idea of how I want these stories to go. Because I want the original mates to end up together. There is always such a yearning and painful journey for the heroine. But I want the author to make me like her mate. Even after he treats her horribly, I want the author to somehow turn it around and make me accept he is worthy enough for her. I want him to understand the pain she went through, because I want him to experience a little bit of it too.

But most all of these kinds of books she moves on with someone else. In this book her mate really was too far gone to ever be redeemable. He said rejected her every time he spoke. And it was just too many times. But the author does such a great job of describing the connection and the reaction they have to each other, that all other males pale in comparison. So even though I don’t think her mate could ever be redeemable, I just have a hard time believing in the Hero of the story.

There were other things too that I just was not enjoying. Like her forced close proximity to the woman he chose over her by the end. It seemed like nobody really appreciated how awful that was for her.

So I don’t know if I will continue the series. I just don’t know if I was enjoying it by the end as much as I was the beginning of the book.

It was ok

It was ok. Got the book bundle free. Book 3 Cash’s story was sad with Kennedy’s letters. But I felt the author really had an opportunity to make the 3rd book really good by going into Specs’ back story about her kidnapping. I had thought that the bad guy was gonna come back. Nope she didn’t write anything about those 2 things so that dropped the stars for me.

I made it about halfway thru book 2 of 3 & tapped.

ALL THE CHARACTERS aside from the h are irredeemable.

On another note: where does the author believe the hymen to be, exactly? Fingering & just-the-tip to "protect her virtue"

the hymen is on the OUTSIDE of the opening, not DEEP inside. It's not a seal on the cervix. it's not inches inside where a tampon, fingers, or the "tip" can't reach it. In fact, you can be "intact" & be active with penetrative sex. If I read this type of ridiculousness one more time it will be too soon.

Letting Go

The story and characters are complex, making for an excellent series. It’s a unique approach to the fated mates trope that some readers may find challenging, but it’s definitively a worthwhile read.

She's rejected, hurt but she's stronger than they thought

I'm in love with this series. I love a rejected werewolf story and this one is by far the best I've read. Oh the feels. It's everything!

Overall I love the way that Rachelle Mills takes the werewolf world and turns it into something of her own. I am a huge werewolf lore lover. I like reading werewolf stories and seeing the lore that others come up with. She does an amazing job with that. I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us with the other two books.

I am a huge fan of this series already. I love that she took the rejected mate "cliche" and twisted it to be something new. The mates just don't get to accept the rejection and move on...the bond is still there. I hate that Rya has to go through the pain of not just being rejected but also whipped for attacking the....wolf who is taking her mate. I love the relationship between Dallas and Rya. I love that they have an understanding of what it feels like to lose a mate, but in different ways.

I love that Rya is going to learn how to be a wolf. I know that she left hre pack to become a midwife, but she never really learned to be a wolf. I am so glad Dallas's dad is going to teach her. I also love his nickname, Little Moon. I think that Clinton, Grace, Carson, Caleb, Crane, and Rya may build a good relationship...though I think Cash will never accept Rya as anything other than a weak wolf.

I will say that I am glad the original Luna, Alpha, and Betas were removed from their rein. They clearly had something going on that is not right. I mean the Alpha "forgot" to remove Rya's punishment. I am really glad they were removed. I also think Kennedy should be removed. What she did to poor Kimberly, and then for Kimberly to pretty much blame all the issues on Rya...not okay.

Characters (only rating Rya and Dallas...cause if I don't limit myself I won't be able to post this.)

Rya - Main - 10/10 - Rya has a lot going for her. While she is the cliche of not being able to take care of herself (in wolf form and in a fight), she is willing to learn and try. I love that she is getting a chance to find her happiness.

Dallas - Love interest - 10/10 - I love that Dallas is who he is. He is an Alpha by blood, but a doctor by choice. I know that he did it because of what happened to his mate (which I don't know what happened yet other than she died), but he is doing his best to be able to be better. I love that he is finding a chance at happiness with Rya.

Again she does it! I absolutely LOVED this. I love that Rya and Dallas built their relationship and had a lot of ups and downs. I loved that Rya was able to train with Clinton and became a stronger wolf and woman. She deserved all the training she got, not because she was a mated Luna (first to Clayton then to Dallas), but because she needed it. She learned to shift quickly, then learned to be a real wolf with the wild wolves. I loved that Clinton and Dallas...and well everyone was super proud and excited for her little milestones that she went through. I also loved that Cash and her became close, even with her hate for Kennedy.

Honestly, watching Kennedy fall into a depression because of Cash and the pregnancy hurt a little. I think that it helped Rya a lot to be able to see that and come to realize that it's not really what she wanted to see. I also think that hering Clayton's side of the story also helped her to grow and change. I also love that Rya forgave Kennedy, she didn't have to...I wouldn't have.

I had a strong feeling that they would mate before they marked each other...honestly, I am so glad they did. I hate that Clayton kissed her. I HATE IT! I hated that Dallas left her and she went through all that pain without him. Her learning to stand on her own again was magical. I loved seeing Rya learn from everything. I loved that she went out on her own and explored like she wanted to. And that she went through all the trouble to get the twins milk after Kennedy died. I knew she was prego from the different signs, and all the ummm fun time they had. I am upset she didn't tell anyone for a while. I think that it is amazing that they were able to fix everything and end up happily together.

Characters
Rya - Main - 10/10 - I love that Rya went through so many different changes in this book. She grows and changes, some for the better...some not. I think that Rya had to go through all that to be able to be truly happy.

Dallas - Love interest - 10/10 - Had my ups and downs with him. I loved that he loved Rya and wanted to be her mate...but him leaving her like that....no.

I loved every moment of this!!!! I loved seeing Cash be able to move on. I loved seeing the world through Trea’s eyes and her thoughts. I hate how she got her scars and that she lost her family and mate, but I love that she found cash and the others she is friends with. I loved this book so much.

I did like the letters. It’s gave more insight to Kennedy and her thoughts during the time she was with cash. I hated that she kept repeating that she still loved Clayton and that she would wait for him in the moon. I hated all the letters and loved them at the same time. I hated that she wasn’t able to meet the twins and love cash as she should have.

Characters
Treajure - 10/10 - I loved seeing her perspective and learning more about her. She had a hard life and deserved the happiness she will get from Cash.

Cassius - 10/10 - I hated that he was struggling to let go. But in the end sleeping with Hazel helped him and I love that he was able to let go and move on and be happy.

Good story but reads a bit disjointed

I stayed up and finished this book because even though I don't rate this book very highly it was addictive.

The writing is very chopping and I was constantly confused with who was speaking and what was even happening at times.

The characters were alright, although I will say that some of them were messed up. Clayton and Kennedy and that whole pack was just icky. The undercurrent for a lot of the characters was...messed up.

The storyline has good potential but I felt that it needed more time with the author to really smooth it out and make her shine.

I did enjoy the last of the book with how Dallas and Rya are now and also Cash and Sabe.

Altogether not a bad 9 hrs of reading but it isn't a book that I would recommend.

(Reviews found with individual books) Synopsis

Clayton - 4 stars h who was rejected by her fated mate suffers shunning and painful punishment and H whose mate died while pregnant

Dallas - 4 stars Cheating, h and mate who rejected her share a passionate kiss (though she did not seek him out) this leads to a long separation

Cassius - 2 stars abuse survivor h who is mute and widowed H with twins whose dead mate was Clayton's lover

Overall this series was intense and carried me away. There was so much pain, suffering and angst it was a difficult and frustrating read at times.

I would not re-read this series, even though I am glad I read it and the author is talented. This took a toll on my emotions. But there were beautiful moments, in the first two books more so.

This one was thought provoking, for me.
I, actually, need to sit down with pen and paper (possibly while reading this again) to sort through my thoughts and feelings.
What is the difference between - lust, want, need, desisre and true love?
Is it "true" love when two people are together that don't really belong, together?
If the two people choose themselves and each other but cause harm to and become the source of harm to other people?
To be egotistically blind and willfully ignorant that their love is, essentially rotten selfishness at its core?
At what happens to the people around them, in the inevitable, fall out of love that is based on self centerdness?

DNF What is wrong with this series??? Tried to like it, I really did but c'mon, every one treats de the female main character as garbage... And she is supposed to be special.... I bought the trilogy but couldn't finish more than one book... And that only because I was waiting to see if things got any better for the poor girl...

Great Series

I loved these books. Not your typical shifter finds mate. This goes into the rejection or loss of a mate only to find a great love in another. Loved it. So very good.

I gotta say, Wattpad did they thang with this one. This is my second time reading the series and I surprisingly still liked it as much as I did when I first read it. One of the better shifter romance books I’ve read in a while. But let’s get into this review…

I hate Kennedy and will forever hate Kennedy. There is no redemption arc, there is no sympathy, there’s no appeal. She doesn’t even get remotely better with time, even in her letters she was still a complete bitch, even more so actually. I’m glad she didn’t get a redemption arc though, not everyone needs to be forgiven and not everyone magically becomes good. I genuinely hoped she wouldn’t get pregnant so that Rya could get her fair one ons with this woman. I hated that Kennedy did so much shit against Rya and Rya never actually got to get her lick back. Karma’s definitely working her ass off but not enough. Kennedy got to go peacefully, she prepared for the moment. She didn’t get to slowly watch Clayton get ripped away from her or get her ass beat on by the woman she wholeheartedly wishes she could replace atp. She just leaves—as she intended😐. I really could rant about her all day, but we move…

Clayton…😒
Idc what anyone’s says he’s just as bad as Kennedy, probably a bit worse. Clayton never actually wants Rya unless another male is showing full interest in her, or she’s the last option. He had years to fix his relationship with her, to break the punishment placed on her, or even just acknowledge her in the slightest. Yet he didn’t. He ignored her for years and watched her become of shell of herself. Then when she came back a fully grown woman, grown into her matured body, all of a sudden he can’t stay away from her now. As soon as Dallas really starts making an appearance in her life, he’s right there stalking her and talking about how much he loves Kennedy but wants her🙄. The one time she’s finally happy, he comes and ruins it for her. It’s as though he doesn’t want her to be happy if it’s not with him—even though he wants nothing to do with her 😒. She literally tells him she’s going to let Dallas mark her and finally get her happy ending and instead of just keeping it real cute, he starts shit up and puts doubts in her mind about how genuine her love is with Dallas. And just like Rya, she falls for it and gives Clayton the exact outcome he was hoping for.

And alright, maybe I lied—he ain’t worse than Kennedy, but he is a POS though 🙄

We can sit and argue over whether or not Dallas was meant for Rya, but I stand on the fact that he was. He may have had a dead mate who he will always love, but that was barely the main issue in their relationship😂. Most of the time the issue was Rya not being over Clayton and Clayton coming in fucking shit up. His mate only ever became a issue when Rya spoke to Clayton or had a run in with him. She was then reminded that Dallas had a mate before and maybe Rya would always be his Kennedy. But that thought never really came up independently when it was just Rya going over her thoughts and fears. That came very late into their story, after she had already attached herself to that man—which was funny because where exactly did you think you were gonna go now?😭. Atp they had no choice but to be together, only thing that was really holding her back was the thought of being second to Dallas like she is to Clayton—which only was brought back up because of Clayton messy ass😒

Anywho…3.5 for the first two books of the series. Didn’t decide to reread the the last one because I didn’t care for their story. Of course I wanted to see Cassius thriving, but not like that. Plus it’s so much pain for him to only have the slightest of relief. I also didn’t like how the love story was playing out in his book. I really only wanted to see how hurt Clayton was after hearing about Rya. Which wasn’t nearly as satisfying. I wanted to see him crying in his office, throwing shit and regretting everything. Not that weak ass quivering moment he had😒

Clayton by Rachelle Mills is the first book in the Wildflower Series and as a fan of Rachelle's writing, I wasn't disappointed. Fair warning, Rachelle tends to evoke a response with her skillful writing, and that is precisely why I think that she's great at what she does. Love, hate, want to strangle or have the need to protect her characters is a common occurrence. This Wildflower Series was definitely tough to read. I found myself angry at most of the characters at some point, more some than others, but ultimately it's about individual journeys of redemption and growth. Clayton is the title of the first book, however it focuses primarily on Rya, his rejected mate. Clayton is featured and we certainly see his struggle, but it's hard to clearly see his path forward in this volume. This book, introduces us to the Valentines and I have to say they are some of my favourite characters. Dallas, oh Dallas...He starts his journey in this book and it has those moments that I want to strangle him and hug him at the same time.... Trying not to give away too many spoilers, but there is a lot that happens and many characters that begin to become part of the fabric of this amazing world. This series is exceptionally written and I really recommend it!

Dallas by Rachelle Mills is the second book in the Wildflower Series and I devoured this book just like the last. Rachelle continues her tale of the Wildflower universe and Rya, Dallas and Clayton's journey. Of course we also see more of Cash and Kennedy and the rest of the Valentine brood. This book picks up with Rya being taken under the Silverback’s wing for training and Dallas spreading his wings as a new Alpha. if possible there is even more heartache for Rya and perhaps some closure as well. This second book resolves things for Rya, Dallas and Clayton for now and leaves the door open for the next and book in the series that focuses on Cash and his struggles. I can't say this enough, but anything that Rachelle writes is a must read!!!!

Cassius by Rachelle Mills is the third book in the Wildflower Series and it was just as heart-wrenching than the last two. Although we see most of the previous characters, this book focuses on Cash, his twins and Specs. I love Specs. She has that spirit that despite being so wounded, still manages to find some hope, even if she has trouble believing in it all the time. She's one of these characters that you just want to pull out of the book and hide away to protect her from anything and anyone, that said, the Valentines have a unique way of helping the broken, mend...and mend she does. Cash is a character that I really didn't take to at first, but after peeling back Rachelle's skillful layers, we see more of the real Cash and what makes him behave and act the way that he does. As with the previous two books, this book will evoke emotion so be warned. Rachelle is a master and this is one of the things that she does best, so do yourself a favour and read!!!

The Wildflower Series (Wildflower #1-3) by Rachelle Mills – This was free on Amazon and on kindle unlimited. The plotting isn’t bad, it’s got nice pacing, and the characters are interesting. It would have been 150% more enjoyable if a good editor had given it an overhaul because there were enough confusing moments and errors to wrench me out of the flow of the story. I really did enjoy the series overall! Happy Reading!
Clayton by Rachelle Mills – I promise you will want to punch Clayton in the throat. I think that is the defining characteristic of a rejected mates troupe lol! Several points where it was a bit confusing, but still interesting. Happy Reading!
Dallas by Rachelle Mills – I think Rachelle Mills wants you to have really clear instincts on her characters because I either want to wrap them in bubble wrap or smack them upside the head. There is no middle ground. Happy Reading!
Cassius by Rachelle Mills – The first two books are a duology, and book three just wouldn’t make sense without them. I think this series got better as you went as far as keeping track of the perspective you are in and confusing plot points. Happy Reading!

Well this series was pretty instense. Much heartbreak ensues. Poor Rya, mean girls abound in the beginning, along with mean boys, a mean mate, and a mean community. She leaves and is called back years later. She is not the same person she as she was when she left.

There are fights, regret, forgiveness, a new love (Dallas), misunderstandings, and more tragedy. This is all in the first two books. The third book, Cassius, continues the story. Cassius is brother to Dallas. His story is part of the fallout from the rejection of Rya by Clayton. His story is difficult as well. Rejection, a mean girl, a tragedy, loads of regret, a new love, Specs/Treajure, who has suffered great tragedy of her own.

Yeah.. Cassius' book was my least favorite. There were entirely too many loose ends in this one. It ends abruptly without any satisfaction regarding what happened to Specs. I was most disappointed.

Get ready for an angsty ride!

Book 1: 5 Stars
Book 2: 4 Stars
Book 3: 3.5 Stars

Holy angst!! I wasn’t sure what I expected when I picked up this book (I didn’t read the blurb 🙈) but I’ve been blown and utterly consumed.
I’m not versed in wolf shifter romance by any means and certainly didn’t know what rejected mates were… this book was enlightening, to say the least, and a roller coaster of emotions.
I’ve lost count of the tears I’ve cried and the times I wanted to rip my own heart out… and let's not get into the times I wanted to throw my kindle!

I enjoyed Rya’s story. Dallas is beyond alpha swoon! Clayton’s redemption was too little too late and I don’t even want to mention Kennedy.

Cassius’s story was emotional and it felt it little rushed but it was impossible to not love Treajure. The twins and Caleb stole the spotlight in the best way.

I don’t like leaving bad reviews. But this series had me dropping the series in my DNF folder. I got a few chapters in but it became a chore to turn the next page.
She starts off with the whole premise of the book happening in the first chapter and the heroine is being brutally punished for it. IN THE FIRST CHAPTER. that there was my first two red flags. The next one was when she leaves and gets called back because she’s a midwife and you get the picture of who’s baby she probably has to deliver while her wolf and human hearts are shattered. Here’s another red flag her mate wants to be with the “popular-I-dated-her-in-high-school” d**wad. She’s totally better without him.

I like to give every book a chance, I will read any genre with warning or without to do with triggers. Nothing really triggers me. Except this series. I’m being generous with two stars.

Whoa

Whoa!!!!

On a whim I grabbed Clayton (beacuse freebie!), never did I expect to be drawn into a world I never want to leave. Never have I been so bummed that I am not a wolf shifter.

Mills creates a world in technicolor with passionate people and vehement emotions. Rage, scream, and break off pieces of yourself...Smile, bask in the glow, and love freely. You will experience all sorts of joy and pain because how can you know the highs without the lows.

Mills gives it to you hard, rough, and without remorse. But she also makes it so real, you never doubt it's existence! Shifter or not.

I cried each book each story heartfelt and incredible endings I hated Clayton and Kennedy and although their pain for each other is felt and appreciated I can’t even imagine the agony of your true soulmate aching for you I can believe it’s like a never ending heartache that just shreds your soul without peace. I’m glad that Cash got someone worthy of his heart she deserves true love second chance mates can be better than first mates. I’m glad Rya and Dallas are a family they deserve it! Poignant - Sad - Powerful - Wild

I was unfamiliar with Rachelle Mills' work. I am glad I took a chance. This is an adult series with adult themes. Rya is moon blessed. Clayton seems moon cursed. I want to learn mire about the Valentine pack. This series explores what happens when you don't love your true mate. Hard times. Is there hope? Yes. Is there psi ? No doubt. There is also love and second chances and joy. I need to read more because these characters are now with me. The Wild...

Wow!!!

This series had it all. Drama, angst, romance, comedy and some sensitive subjects that may be a trigger for some.

The character development was thoroughly done with monumental growth for some and well-planned deterioration for others. The aptly described world building seemed tangible and downright heartbreaking 💔.

I love a good werewolf story and ‘The Wildflower’ series isn’t great, it’s absolutely phenomenal!!! I’m having a hard time retrieving my imagination from this story.

Ms. Mills had me on an emotional roller coaster and I’m dreading exiting off this sensational ride🥰🥰💕

I love this series.
It’s written a lot like a wattpad story but I didn’t mind. I think it was wattpad, but the story is heartbreaking and the rejection trauma Rye has I felt it in my bones. I understood why she acted that way in all the story. Dallas was amazing… still there were parts I was angry with him. Clayton was heartbreaking, because I understood why he acted the way he did. He was mean sometimes bit he was being faithful to his first love… and isn’t that worthy? Even if it sucked for Rye. This is my second time reading it and I loved it all over again.

Excellent 3 book series

I first started to read book 1 when it was just a small set of chapters. When I decided to look the Author up jackpot I found her series. I hated a few characters from each book and loved all the rest. I couldn't put this book down. With each book it builds old characters to new heights. Wile the ones you hated you begin to feel sorry for them. I look forward to seeing more of the wildflower series with the characters that have their story to yet be told. This is a must read book you won't be disappointed!!!!

This book was read after deliberating for a long times I found it in a review someone else had written and decided to give it a chance. I am so glad I did. We start with rya and her need for her mate to want her only to find what she waz meant to be all along. Then we have her journey only to find the world as it should be. Cash is a hard and broken but he will find what he needed was never what he expected

4,5 stars. While I absolutely loved the first two books, I couldn't connect with characters from book Three. After kearning about mates and their forever, nothing seems like forever mates in this stories. They refuse the bond, shit on their mates, leave them, cheat on them. And on the other hand, I had t0 stop reading, because I had to head to work and all I could think about was, coming back home and finishing book two.
