The truth is coming. The end is near... With Earth in chaos and life on New Kerguelen shaken like never before, a discovery on the mysterious world of Sanctuary blows apart humanity's understanding of just about everything. The consequences are almost unfathomable, the urgency unprecedented, and the revelations of a kind that even Dan McCarthy isn't ready for. One way or another, nothing will ever be the same. And this time, it's final... __________ Not Revelations is the sixth book in the globally acclaimed Not Alone series, which is intended to be read in The Contact Trilogy 1. Not Alone 2.
Great character development that really pulls you in, to a point that you feel like you really know the characters at the end. An excellent story line, with multiple twists and turns that will keep you fully engaged and wanting more. A series that shows both the good and bad sides of humanity (particularly politics and the (majority of) universally self servicing people that typically gravitate to positions of political influence, only to further themselves and their own personal (or party) agendas while lining their own pockets in their quest for power.) The same can be said for many of those in the media, and how all media outlets can and and usually do spin the stories we are told in any way they like - and truth be damned. All in their singular search for the almighty ratings and the advertising dollars that follow. But what really stands out at the end is that because of the core group of (obviously good characters), you come to feel the innate goodness present in all of us. While at the same time, realizing that as humans - none of us are perfect, we all make mistakes, and that people can change and even redeem themselves when given the chance. I also really enjoyed Leesa and the positive portrayal of the Messengers, as I think the same can be said of the aliens their species. Overall, a very good read brought to a successful conclusion after a wild ride.
Note: Another VERY positive and well written series with great characters dealing with multiple positive first contacts and interspecies cooperation is "The Silver Ships" series by S.H. Jucha.
Personally, I would like to see this story (or even a story set in the same the universe) continue what was started here, and show what might be achieved with humans and Messengers working together. A story illustrating a new scenario or challenge threatening one or both species or their worlds (and possibly bringing the Architects back asking for their help as a huge twist). A story that could potentially advance both species, while they work to save everything they've endeavored to create.
This is a very long series, close to 100 hours of listening in the unabridged audiobook format of six novels. Given the length, you need a voice pleasant to hear and James Patrick Cronin does a terrific job throughout. Pacing, tempo, male and female voices, etc., overall production very well done. Not Alone is a SciFi series and Book One was released in August of 2016, book 6 in June of 2020, all by Audible Studios. Not Alone is character-driven, albeit few main characters – which is nice listening and you get to know everyone. No need for struggling to keep track of who-is-who, and thanks to the excellent narration, no problems with who-is-speaking-to-who.
Plot. Dan McCarthy, while riding his bike on a delivery, collides with a robber who drops an envelope containing definitive proof of a government cover-up. Human knowledge of aliens, i.e., we are Not Alone, has been a fact since 1938. Early on, you're skeptical and before the books are finished - well, no spoilers. But, SciFi lovers will be beyond pleased as Dan's amazing adventures unfold. Start with book one, and read in sequence or you'll miss a great deal.
Liked. Character development, humanoid, and otherwise. You like most, hate a few. The ultimate goodness of mankind, and any potential visitors, is something we all wish to be true.
Not so hot? Repetitive. Most noticeable in the series, Falconer re-caps a great deal, almost as if he needs to remind himself where the plot is and how we got here, reading from his own notes. Painful to listen to for anyone who is binge-listening to all six books in the series. Kept mumbling, 'Yeah, yeah, I know, I know - move on." Actually did have to fast-forward a bit.
No clicking knees, not a blood-and-guts type horror SciFi. This is a first contact story out of a vivid imagination telling us what it might really be like. World politics, wonder, fear, greed, hope - it's all here. No sex, nothing offensive. Recommended!
Sanctuary turned out to be a planet full of surprises, not the least thereoff being the alien race, called the Smalls, living on it. And they regard the visitors from Earth in awe, as gods actually. Yes, Dan and company did actually test out the gateway on New Kerguelen to calm down a crowd of unruly agitators on New Kerguelen who intended destroying the gateway. Strangely so. But for Dan and company it is the start of a lot more surprises, even fatal ones, to follow as a conspiracy on Earth threatens to destroy everything they accomplished so far. And, right there in the midst of everything, there is this little tyke called Piper, that seems to be developing into a prodigy all in the quiet. I'll be looking with narrowed eyes in future to see what might develop here. Enjoy
Not Alone: Revelations is book six in the six part Not Alone series. I thought this was an excellent wrap up of this story.
This entire series is a character driven look at earth's reaction to first contact with another world. Many plot twists to keep it interesting and the character development is stellar. Real life stories, with aliens thrown in to keep it interesting.
There's lots of politics and media, and how we interact with aliens that are advanced beyond humans, yet very naive in practical terms. It's great stuff and you have to read the entire series to appreciate how unique it really is.
Such a great series! The writing style really pulls you in right from the start. Politics and strategy plus sci-fi and a little romance; this series has it all. I am not going to lie though, at some points the story felt somewhat anticlimatic with very little action in parts that could have been way more interesting; like the part (spoiler alert!!!!) with Emma’s statue in the small’s world which in the end turned out to be very disappointingly explained like a may-be-alternate-universe. That part had so much potential for a little change-the-future action. All in all, great series! Likeable characters with great personalities.

A page-turner I couldn’t put down until I’d finished it in the wee hours. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys best-in-class storytelling, character development that makes you care deeply about the protagonists and a creative, surprise-filled story line that at once seems plausible and, yet, is as mind-blowing as Sci-fi’s best authors like Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, Card, Dick, Brin, Niven— just to name a few.
This book is a wonderful, satisfying conclusion to the 2nd Not Alone ‘trilogy’ and to the series— yet, now announced by Mr. Falconer, he’s been hard at work during the Covid-19 year writing a 3rd ‘trilogy’ in the Not Alone saga. I can hardly wait!
I really liked the story from the beginning to the end. I read all books from cover to cover without any interruptions from other books. It is entertaining and thought provoking and sometimes a little scary with it’s of current life on our planet. My only dislike was the retelling of some of the information from the previous books. I understand the need however, it was a little too long winded at times.
Things sure do get complicated in this story. It becomes clear that there are some seriously bad villains in positions of authority who are willing to do anything it takes to get more power. It's also clear that the inherent goodness and bravery of Dan, his friends, and his family along with a bit of extraterrestrial help are more than a match for them. Now I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
I'm not one who usually leaves ratings but started doing it with Revelations. This series continues to intrigue and delight me. Mr. Falconer has a great way of weaving a tale. The books previous to this one I sort of flew through reading them as I was anxious to see where the story was going. Looking forward to the rest of the tale he has to tell!
Reading all six novels in this series has been a distinct pleasure. All the characters, both good and evil, are carefully developed as is the entire plot premise. I really appreciate the fine prose style and would not hesitate for a second to recommend reading the entire series from start to finish. You’ll not be disappointed!
Written during covid and read during covid! A truly great series. Kept me turning the pages and barely sleeping!!!!! The plot is good. The characters well developed and keeps the reader looking up to the sky hoping for a similar contact!!! Many thanks for a good read!!
Seemingly real people encountering out of this world characters and places without the trite space ships blasting away and needless alien villains. Humankind has enough potential villains, but positive people can overcome. Classic Joseph Campbell hero tale set in intriguing setting.
What a page-turner book six is! I'm sorry this series has ended, but what an ending! Mr Falconer, I thought you were a little prescient mentioning Chinese viruses, but because I always read your author's comments, I know why! Thank you for this beautiful series!
I chose four stars because the only thing i got a little tired of was their private moments or thinking. The thinking repeated itself and i kinda skipped some and didn't hurt the book. Great example of the people on earth. Some ramping up the fears of others! Thank you for writing these books!
This was one of the best SiFi series I’ve ever read. The story was very well laid out with lots of plot twists. The characters were complex and well developed. If you haven’t read any of this author’s works I highly recommend you do so. I’m really sorry to see it end. Thank you Craig and keep on writing. I can’t wait to see what you do next.
I just finished Revelations and it was so uplifting during this time of COVID 19. I've been reading a lot during this time and this keep me up all night for several weeks. Thank you Craig for writing this last book and making me smile as all the loose ends were tied up. I look forward to your future writing!
I'm sad that this series is over. I enjoyed getting to know the characters, and the story was engaging. Plenty of advanced technologies, without getting very deep into how these might work or be possible. I highly recommend the audiobooks. The reader's voice is perfect for this. I may look at some other books he has narrated, just because I like his voice that much.
The Not Alone series is about real people involved in a very believable scenario that challenges what we should take from our governments and vested interests as being the truth. A truly great read from a talented and unique author. Can't wait to read his next project.
The intriguing twists a turns kept me turning pages to see what's next and how. Book six did contain too many instances of detail recounting of past events that seemed to interfere with development of the story. Nevertheless, I heartily recommend Not Alone! Looking forward to more.
I have just finished reading number 6 in the series and have to say that it was even better then the others and I liked all of them.If you like outstanding science fiction with aliens then you have to get this series .
Space operas often become drab and boring ,but Mr Falconer has made this series wonderful. Each book had adventure, action and a well thought out story line. Will look forward to more by him.
I'm so pleased I started this series, so many years ago! Loved every book. The characters are very interesting, and you get drawn into them and their surroundings. Highly recommended for those who enjoy this genre.
The same for the whole series: fun... It has enough twists and turns to keep you entertained.
It took me quite a while to read the last book because it kept on changing my views on previews points of the previous books but in the end it finished in a good way.
Craig continues to draw us ever deeper into Dan and Emma’s (and of course Piper) world with these great page turners. I’m SO glad he’s kept writing more books in this series.
I love this series and the fact that there are 9 books excites me to see how the story unfolds. I have yet to be disappointed by any of the plot lines so far and the character development is spot on.
Revelations abound! How does Craig continually keep surprising us?! I found myself literally holding my breath, reading what this particular revelation would be… then repeating as the next revelation was set up.
If you’ve read the other books in the ‘Not Alone’ series, you will appreciate and enjoy this one. Escapism blended with a bit of ‘Boys Own’ action will keep you reading.
A bit better than the previous book with rather interesting ending. But I think I will make break from next book. Don't want to read more about politics and some side-stories that only take away from the main part of the book.
