I’m an American writer of Jewish and Romany decent. I write Historical Fiction and Historical Romance, most of which is set during the holocaust. Although I never discount the horrors of the time period, the main focus of my work is on ordinary people who prove to be strong heroic characters in unfathomable circumstances.
This is so true in this heartfelt story about a brother and sister whom we met in an earlier book. Again, the author does a terrific job of painting portraits of real life characters in unspeakable situations. You learn things about this terrible time in history that you may not have known. I sure did. Another wonderful finale for a first rate series.
Oh Roberta! What can I say that I haven’t said before! I loved this book so much! The characters have become my friends once again and I want to know more..... please write a follow on..... Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
I think they could be read as stand alones, but reading them in order provides such a good experience…you can so thoroughly become immersed in these books! Well written, wonderful characters and such great plots!
This book goes straight to your heart & soul! The hardest part for me was that the characters were so real, so human - you "feel" their pain and anguish......and yet realize your pain and anguish does not come near to what they experienced. When I read these books I feel the deepest sorrow and anger! I cannot comprehend the hate and evil and senseless words and actions that permeated an entire country - I just feel I need to read these books so in some small way I can remember and honor these people, these victims. I just don't know what else to say.
I have been a fan for many Years and find her always the most fascinating the most in depth the most emotion everything that I want to know as I don't further and further into the holocaust I've been joyed not only the Jewish stories but also the gypsies and I've learned things I never knew such as the fat then a man that I thought was the best president was not a good man And for that matter neither was his wife And I respected Roosevelt but the fact that that ship was turned when he had the chance to show the world
All four books in this series were so well written that I could not stop reading them. I completed all four books in about five days. One could question why are we so fascinated by the Nazi years and the harm done to so many. The answer may be that there are so many stories of survival that even in fiction there is a lot of truth. So many suffered needlessly and for the wrong reasons. Innocent children had no childhoods. Highly recommend the books by Roberta Kaplan. They seem to be authentic and well researched.
This is the third set of Roberta's books I have read! I love everything about them! I wrote my high school term paper on Eichman and my friends father was one of the American liberators who had so many photos that broke my heart! These stories touch every emotion! 💓💗❤
This book follows the adventures of the son and daughter of Zelda after fleeing the Lodz ghetto. Another easy five stars for a moving and highly satisfactory ending to a superb tale of heart rending twists and turns. I will read more of this author's books in the future.
This series is heart wrenching.there times I wanted to stop reading but I couldn't. The horror the pain, I never fully understood. If you can bare it read it all. Its breathtakingly sad and happy at the same time. Not happy in a fun way but happy it was finally over. A must read. I hope this makes sense.
Another series of books to remind us that we need to know history to keep from repeating it.
I loved this series the strength and resilience of people that could have at anytime given up but not only did they survive they went on to have good lives after living through the atrocities the Nazi's inflicted on them.
I read this entire series over the weekend! Just couldn’t put any of the books down. Roberta Kagan is such a masterful writer, and her research on her topics is top notch. Last weekend I finished the I Love You Derrick series. Her characters are so compelling and real. She’s easily one of my favorite writers!
If.you did something as a kid and then wished you had contined into adulthood but didn't, this novel will touch you. The terrible events these people went thru were offset partially by landing in Israel. They experienced hell and then went to a type of nirvana where their past could be melded to a life where they could almost move on . A really good read.
An absolutely beautiful story, this whole series has been heartwarming. With the many twist and turns and fears for the children. Anyone that has a heart of love will love this book. Roberta you are a suberb writer and our truly blessed with great storylines.
A wonderful story with true to life characters who are so real and lovable and tell the story of life in world war 2. So much heart ache and yet the hope for a better life.
All four books in this series were fabulous! I hated when I was finished with this 4th one. I can only hope there may be a 5th? Very well written. It held my interest from the very first page until the last! I felt that I was part of each and all their lives. While reading, you worried, you laughed, you cried and you smiled!
In your minds eye you can see and feel the story. You go from great sadness to a beautiful loving end. Please never stop writing. I can't wait for the next book. I feel as though I'm there in the books story.
I loved this book so much that I found myself reading it way into the night. Parts were so sad but writtten in such a way that felt you were there I hated to see the book end as I wanted to keep reading to find out what should happen next
Sarah and Solomon was the best out of the 4 books in my opinion. It described the horrors of the war. Mans will to survive The horrors young children went through to survive
The story of how two young Jewish children survived the war and finally ended up in Israel in 1956. There was so much to this book about Jewish people and how they survived the Holocaust.
After nine-year Solomon and his five-year old sister, Sarah, escape from the Łódź ghetto where the Jews have been detained, they must continually fight for their survival. Eventually they meet adults who help them. What will be their ultimate fate?
I loved the 1st and 4th book in the series. Kept me at the edge of my seat. 2nd and 3rd could have been consolidated into 1 book. Overall, it was a good series, but not as good as all the others.
