They’re city folks, not farmers. A couple of days in that old house with no running water and no flush toilet and they’ll be ready to pack up and head back to civilization.
Ox and his family discover that they suddenly own a farm thanks to a great-uncle's will.

So, what is there to do but go down and visit!

Ox and his wife, Judy, plan an adventure to the farm. Of course they bring along their longtime friends Walt and Maggie.

But this farm? Let's just say that it was wholly and completely a shock to them.

This is my first Lady Justice book...and it's also the 43rd in the series.

So. I think it's safe to say that I probably missed out on some context.

That being said, this was an intriguing short story.

The story itself felt simplistic and yet enjoyable. The four friends explore the farmhouse and go off on a few mini-adventures.

I do love books that are a slice-of-life sort of style but I did find myself wishing for a bit stronger of an overarching plot and more tension scattered throughout. I think that would have cinched the story for me.

Surprisingly, this book had pictures of the various objects, landscapes and buildings that the characters run into.

I normally don't go for that but this story had a charming way of interlacing the images with essential aspects of the story.

All in all, this was a fun, short read!

With thanks to the author for sending me a free copy in exchange for an honest review

I love history! Not so much in high school, but since I'm now an antique person I find it quite fascinating. Ox, Walt's old cop partner, inherited a farmhouse and 160 acres in an area south of Kansas City about 3 hours away. This book not only has lots of history about the area as well as other fun information, but Walt and friends get mixed up in many other adventures in the few days spent looking over Ox's new inheritance. I had to know what happened in each adventure so read it all at one sitting. I would highly recommend this fun read.

One of the interesting themes in Robert Thornhill’s Lady Justice series is his return to his own personal roots in the MO Ozarks. In book #43, “Lady Justice Down on the Farm,” Thornhill reminds the reader of past events in St. Clair County, MO books numbers 4-6. In his Author’s Notes he explains his connection to Monegaw Springs and his love of the area.
In this offering, Walt Williams’ former partner, George Wilson (better known as Ox), inherits a 160-acre farm from his great uncle in the St. Clair County area several hours from Kansas City, MO. Naturally, he invites his best friends Walt and Maggie to go along with him and his wife, Judy, to look it over. Walt is a former real estate agent and Maggie is still active in the business. Ox and Judy are members of the KCMO police force. Ox thinks this might be a nice spot for a vacation getaway.
Once they arrive though, so do the bad guys! Adjoining neighbors seem overly interested in buying out Ox’s farm; Ox and Walt stumble into a budding terrorist group who are remnants from the Avenging Angels that they stopped in Book 4. To top it off, they run afoul of fish poachers who are stealing the eggs of spoonbill fish which are a substitute for Russian caviar on the black market.
Readers know that Walt and his friends will manage to escape death, but the question is how close he comes and will his family and friends also escape. What makes the story fun is the way Thornhill gets Walt into the predicaments and how he gets him out…all done neatly, believably, and with a sense of humor. Along with a cute story line, the reader is treated to pictures and descriptions of the beautiful areas in St. Clair County. All this makes for a satisfying afternoon’s reading experience.

Walt is back to his brilliant old self in this instalment to a great series. I love the way lots of small cases or situations happen to make up one good book, this means the story goes off in lots of different directions and you are never show were your adventure is going to take you but it is going to be fun and full of laughs along the way. This book mainly focuses on Walt and Ox and it is great to see the pair back in trouble together. Most of the series is set in Kansas City so I enjoyed the authors take of living in the country and it colourful cast of characters. This book is a very good example of why this book is number 43 and even though you don't need to have read or heard the rest of the books, aren't you a little bit curious how a series can last so long and still draw in five star reviews? Listen and find out for yourself.
Ox uncle has died and left him a farm. Unsure what to so with it he takes his old partner Walt and his wife with him to check it out. The farm house like his uncle is old and cod do with some work, like indoor plumbing but before he makes a decision or whether to keep it or sell it he gets an offer. This immediately raises suspicions, especially when the buyer becomes pushy. Before Ox can make up his mind he and Walt will have to face off against guns held by drug growers, poachers and religious nuts and they say living in the country is boring and to quiet. It's all in a day's work for ex cop Walt.
George Kutch is a big part of why I love this series his narration is excellent every time

Lady Justice Down on the Farm (Lady Justice, #43) by Robert Thornhill

Ox inherits an old farm house in Ozark Hills and invites Walt and Maggie along to checkout the property. But things take a turn when they encounter drug dealers, poachers and a religious zealot. Also what is the reason why the neighbor wants to buy the farm? Life takes a dangerous turn for Walt and friends, as they begin to uncover the truth.

An original story with a bit of danger, mystery, suspense and laughs. Robert Thornhill creates characters that are very likable, some are a bit quirky, but all unique in their own ways. I learned about the region, some local History and a bit about the Authors Ancestors. With wonderful photos that enhanced the story, I was engrossed and found this story very enjoyable. I highly recommend Lady Justice Down on the Farm to all.

( Format : Audiobook )
"The Ozark hillbillies."
When Oz inherits a 160 acre farm from a forgotten relative, he invites his old police partner Walt, and wife Maggie to join him, and his wife, Judy, on a holiday trip to view the place. Far nicer than expected, it is not, however, without it's problems.
Another fun story with detective twists as the two sets of friends find that the country can be anything but peaceful. Once again George Kuch narrates, the perfect Walt Williams voice.

This is a series I have thoroughly enjoyed from the first book, every one a pleasure. As is this, book 43. Thank you, Robert Thornhill: long may they continue to be written. Recommended.

The 150 Prompt Doctor Who Reading Challenge - Fifth Doctor - 2) Celery For Protection: Pick A Book Where Nature, Science Or Unusual Logic Saves The Day.

This was quite an enjoyable read in the Lady Justice series, and it was quite nice to get characterisation for Ox again. The story itself was quite simplistic, I'm almost certain that it has featured on Scooby Doo numerous times, but reading it, it is really enjoyable, and it kept me engaged in the sofa.

If you haven't read a Lady Justice book, this is a great one to pick up. Ox and Walt have known each other a long time through their private investigations. When Ox inherits a farmhouse, he, of course, invites Walt and his wife to come with him to check it out. The place is old and full of family heirlooms, although without much for up to date amenities. The place also has some dark secrets that will have the group facing a bunch of trouble. The author adds history, humor, and twists and turns to the story that make it a must-read.

Lady Justice Down on the Farm (Lady Justice, #43), my forty-third enjoyable read/listen from author Robert Thornhill. I loved this book., 3 hrs and 3 minutes of entertaining clean read, filled with puns & one-liners, as always dealing with current social topics. Thornhill's writing is totally addictive, each book in the series seems better than the last as Thornhill continues to up his game. The interesting thing about these books is that the author seamlessly includes wonderful facts & trivia for the reader to learn. Narrator George Kuch again adds greatly to the listening enjoyment with his wide variety of entertaining voices & inflections, over the course of over forty Audible books, Kuch IS Walt Williams! I’ll definitely be reading more from Thornhill! I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. I listen to these books with my wife and there are times we laugh so hard it brings tears to our eyes. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

I really enjoyed this book. Lots of old time photos. Things that reminded me of my younger years. Playing in the hay in the barn, the old outhouse , No inside running water and pumping water at the end of the lane. Oh and cant forget the neighbors mean rooster. Or the black snakes that swam in the creek where we did. Ox inherited a farm house. He was a cop in the city tho. But him and wife and their best friends where ask to go along and see what he got. It wasnt to bad, but remember they lived in the city. They no sooner got there and the neighbors come over and ask if they wanted to sell the farm and Ox said Im just here to check it out . I will let you know if Im gonna sell it. Well they kept begging Ox every few days. Why did they want this land so bad. After alot problems they found out why.

Walt and Ox used to be partners when Walt was on the police force in the city and they with their wives are still good friends, so when Ox finds out that he's inherited a farm near the river from an old reclusive relative, he asks Walt and his wife to join them to see what it looks like. They find a farmhouse, barn, outhouse, and the old man who was a live in helper and is a great guy. They also find a pair of pushy neighbors who go to great lengths to get Ox and is wife to sell to them. Along the way the pair find other things that make this a kind of busman's holiday, but they also learn how to fish on the river nearby with the help of an old contact of Walt's. Another fun story!
George Kuch seems to know just how to narrate each character and really add to the story.

Lady Justice Down on the Farm
by Robert Thornhill

Ox inherits a farm and ground in the country. When it came time to go check it out, he and Judy invited Walt and Maggie to come along. What starts off as a nice

vacation turns into confrontations with drug dealers, religious zealots, strange neighbors, and wildlife poachers. After a few twists Walt starts putting together the

clues to the mystery. Great story from a great author!!!!

PS: I love the personal moments, of the authors family history!!!

Another fun read from the Lady Justice Series by Robert Thornhill. It is nice to see Walt and Ox back in action together, though not in the usual setting. The pace moved along nicely and the book was filled with lots of action and mystery. I stayed up way passed my bedtime reading and I especially liked the fact that the author included some nice pictures in the book. You don't have to know the whole series in order to enjoy this book, though it is fun to see how it all began. Can't wait to see what will happen next.

Well, I am not surprised but amazed that Robert Thornhill has done it again. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook as I have with this entire series. In this great Walt Williams adventure, we find Ox has inherited a 160-acre farm. So off the two couples go to check it out on a long weekend. Of course, they find trouble well I should say trouble finds them. I hope this farm shows up in a few more books :-)

Ox is contacted by the law firm 'Dewey, Chetam, & Howe' and finds that he has inherited a farm from his great-uncle. While spending a week there with Judy, Walt & Maggie, the crew has lots of run ins with various nefarious folks. You'll have to read (or listen) to find out the details. P.S. I'd be wary of that law firm! :-)

Lady Justice #43

I really enjoyed this installment of the Lady Justice series. It was nice to catch up with Ox and Judy. This was a relaxing read. While there is a bit of mystery and a little danger, the overall pace is slower. Not boring. Just not danger on top of danger.
I wouldn't mind having a beautiful cave on my property.
The pictures add a special touch to the story.

We ain't in Kansas no more

I enjoy the friendship between Ox and Judy and Walt and Maggie. Having watched it develop over this series of books it seems to be natural and significant. Walt has a never ending desire for adventure, and he sure finds it, or it finds him. I am never quite sure. Add this book to your satisfying Lady Justice reads. It's a good one.

Its a bit simplistic, but a good story. I like the characters, they are all interesting.
Love the pics in the book. The writing is adequate. It is very predictable. Maybe its meant to be that way.
