This is an OK addition to the Hot Scots romance series. When I read the synopsis of this book, I wasn't sure I would like it -- because I usually don't like books where a professor seduces a student.
I decided to give it a try anyway, and it was better than I expected. That is because Iain was not a professor who took advantage of his student. He actually fell in love with Rae, and waited to be with her until she was ready to graduate. That made the professor/student relationship more palatable to me.
I did think it was very strange that Iain waited so long to try to find Rae. His reasons/excuses just didn't hold up. If he still loved her as much as he said, he would have found a way to get to her, instead of making excuses. It also bothered me that he was such a terrible womanizer during the time they were apart. Once again, if he loved Rae that much, I don't think he would have acted like that.
I mostly liked Rae, and understood that she couldn't find Iain to tell him about her pregnancy. But when he showed up at her home, she should have told him about his daughter right away. She should not have kept that secret from him any longer. I get that she thought she was protecting her daughter, but she still should have told Iain -- especially after he explained that he thought he was protecting her when he left so many years before.
This one gets 3 stars from me.
My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
