With a series of death dates looming, Lucian needs to get creative to save his brother and his family. He will have to call upon his friends and former foes to get the job done, which will open him up to more complications, Lucian plunging head first into issues that have been plaguing the Progenies of Light and Death for thousands of years. Lucian will have to get creative, and there will come a point where he will have to get ruthless.
The sudden passing of someone close to him leaves Lucian in a tailspin, only exacerbated by a confession he’s made that rocks the very foundation he is building. Picking up the pieces, Lucian has no other choice but to move forward, to level up once and for all, and to kill the parasite that plagues his brother and has extended itself to his family, or lose it all. Because that is what is at stake here.
With one false move, Lucian risks not only his family, not only the lives of those he cares for in the spiritual realm, but also his very existence.

If you've followed this series from the start, you are in for a treat. If you haven't read it, please don't start here as you'll spoil everything for yourself. This was an action-packed, twisty-turny, intelligent, emotive explosion of a finale.
I adored this series and, if I am honest, I wondered how the author was going to tie-up all the stories and little details. I really shouldn't have worried, as they were done to my complete satisfaction (and THAT is saying something, as I am NOT easily pleased), and finished absolutely beautifully too.
As this is Harmon Cooper I am talking about, the characters are full to bursting (particularly Lucian), the storylines are excellent, and the reader is able to 'feel' his love for his family and his 'angel', his courage to stand up for what is right, his frustration and heartbreak at his family's new death date, and the seemingly indestructibility of his brother's parasite.
The author writes stories in which we can see the parallels in our 'real world' of 2020. These are well done and completely sound in my mind. I was very close to tears many, many times. Thank you, Mr Cooper, for this fantastic series. I'm very sad that it has ended, but I'm very happy that I have read and enjoyed it.
I chose an eARC of this book, which I then voluntarily read and honestly reviewed. All opinions are my own.
I picked up the Omnibus version, so I was kindof committed to finishing the series, even though many of my gripes were present in the first and second books.
I will start with some positives: I always give a finished series +1 stars since having a conclusion is somewhat rare nowadays. The third star is entirely based on the world itself being somewhat interesting to read about (e.g. - Unique concept/Magic-like system).
Now for the bad... I really don't have nice words to say about the characters, their overall development, the romance, etc. So I am just gonna say it bluntly. This didn't work and it read like a teenager/shut-in describing his idolized fantasy woman, the number of times everybody just decided to play video games was "at best" an unnecessary distraction from the main story for padding, and "at worst" cringe-inducing cutscenes that served to make the MC appear more childish.
So here we have a MC that is mid twenties and acts like a teenager (heart condition, yada yada)... And somehow this dude wooed an angel that has lived through multiple lifetimes, has experienced extreme hardships during several of them, and probably understands herself enough to recognize what she actually values in a partner? Like... Pizza, videogames, and abject lies of ommision is pretty much the only thing that has really changed between the 2-3rd book regarding their relationship... and somehow she falls desperately in love!!! Bleh... *throws hands in the air*
W.e. - Honestly wish goodreads had correctly labeled this as YA before I had the misfortune of picking it up. I really don't like YA.
Death's Mantle continues it's unusual take on Death with battles against parasites, angels, and even other Deaths. This is a fun, entertaining, and quirky series with Game Lit elements. Definitely adult/ mature readers only though (the high schoolers would probably enjoy it, but it's got lots of violence, sexual content, and language).
This is book 3, so read the first two books first. It works better that way.
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This series resonated with me. I have family who suffer with addiction. Depression. Anger. . . Could the things that torment us be some kind of demonic entity? Dose Devine intervention come in the form of a person passed on fighting to save other's? Who knows but what a brilliant way to look at this ugly truth.
Okay, I'm just going to admit it. I got very caught up in this series. At first, the characters seemed a little two dimensional, but once they story got started good that changed completely. I found myself caring deeply about the characters. You owe it to yourself to read this series.
I really enjoyed these 3 books. I always leave a review for a series rather than an individual book. I loved the creative idea's behind Lucian's powers and how a child of the 21st century would actually use these abilities compared to someone born many years ago. I can only imagine how different some Deaths would be in a few hundred years! Awesome idea's, Thanks for the good read Harmon Cooper.
Loved it. I would love to read more of these. It was fun. Adding fantasy and a gamer world was perfect. I would enjoy seeing these same characters again if you decide to write anymore.
Terrific read. Wonderful conception and storytelling. I really enjoyed these books and the way death and life were portrayed. Hopefully you will write some books about the other characters and their history.
This third book surpasses other 2 with its wild action sequences and love life of the protagonist. All the things Lucian was facing has been tied perfectly in this book. From his brothers problems to dark and light worlds colliding with each other. This was an action-packed from the first page till the end. Characters in the story are placed very very carefully and defined to the perfection. I would like to thank author for such amazing trilogy. I'll definitely miss this series.
